LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Duck Walk by EnchaeC 2024-10-10T06:43:40Z

Our gobs are absolutely smacked by the amount of polish and attention to detail like when the sprite changes whenever a quart of a day goes past, also it was very stressful being the surrogate parent of a bunch of adorable little ducks and every single time we ran into a bug we instinctively turned around and stepped back onto a duck and one of us felt terrible and the other laughed their ass off, all in all, great game, definitely one of our fav entries so far!

Carrot Patch by Historymaker118 2024-10-13T08:45:07Z

Cute game, simple and sweet, got so jumpscared by exploding from a left tractor cuz I was focusing too much LOL -Swan

Pot Life by chuckeles 2024-10-23T06:47:10Z

I personally really enjoyed the cute lil critters walking around and getting burnt, however they activated Swan's entomophobia which I still think is a compliment of sorts to the graphics.

I enjoy this kind of gameplay of going from a macro management view, and then focusing on the micro. For the relaxing atmosphere and the happy vibes it works perfectly, tho I did end up encountering an audio glitch after clicking out of the game and then back in, I think audio sources were playing several times over, but it's not big deal.

All and all, I think the nice polish and cute art and sounds go nicely with the simplicity of the game, and it does feel nice when the garden does eventually become self sustainable, my only real wish was that the bugs' silhouettes were visible through the flowers.

Get in ma Blunderbuss by Logic Monkey 2024-10-09T08:40:55Z

Great game! As the others mentioned love the mechanic of using enemies as ammo, found myself not using ammo at all in the beginning to stock up lol, also love the choice to use a minimal color palette! -Swan

A Bug's Wife by Aurailus 2024-10-08T09:48:31Z

We really enjoyed it! The puzzles were very fun to figure out, and trying to get the perfect route on level 7 for the 3 stars was a really nice challenge. Not to mention the absolutely gorgeous graphics. Both of our team members decided to go for the full 3⭐ run :3

Zanymen: Tiny Town by Brainloaf Studio 2024-10-23T05:52:37Z

I came here for the cute and charming art and stayed for the cozy vibes and funny lil bits of dialogue. Wasn't expecting Snailman and Slop Nook to have a child as well, I'm happy for them <3

Even tho this kind of game isn't exactly my cup of tea I did enjoy how pleasant everything was and the amount of polish in all aspects really ties the experience into a nice package that you can let run in the background for a good amount of time while you watch your little village grow.

My one real gripe is that with the text speed and the placement of the dialogue options it did get easy to accidentally misclick exactly in a way to kick your villagers out. It almost happened to me with Snailman, and then I straight up exiled Croakman via the same mistake and I'll never forgive myself for it.

Overall this was absolutely adorable and definitely my pick for the coziest game of the jam. -Boat

Soot & Stinker by CodeRaurus 2024-10-23T06:23:49Z

Cute graphics and funny theme, the controls feel really good too and even after beating the level with the least amount of blocks I found myself trying to perfect the juking. Which I almost pulled off flawlessly at the end :D Everything feels really polished and it was really enjoyable, great job! -Swan

Don't feed the frog by kremlebot 2024-10-09T08:43:38Z

Cute idea and well executed! The speed up for getting combos is addicting and I kept going for more at the expense of my tongue getting spiked, great job! -Swan

Pom Planet by LittleBlackDog 2024-10-09T08:16:06Z

Great game!!! The pixel art is adorable and the puzzle system was very cool, straightforward but has a ton of room for tricky moments in trying to perfect it. Also horrified at what big friend could do that I frantically swap tiles just trying to trap them when the level starts lol. Aiming to get rainbow for all the levels! -Swan

Are you listening? by Sockenpuppe 2024-10-23T05:57:16Z

Very well done in portraying the struggles in carrying on after the loss of a loved one. I really liked using the tiny creatures to get in the way of making choices to show how even the simple mundane stuff can be such a chore to get through, I think it's a really effective way of using the strengths of a medium to convey a feeling and I appreciate that a lot. The mirror scene was also a highlight for me, I made all the positive choices first before making the negative ones in my second playthrough, and the change in the reflection at the end was really unsettling(in the best way possible). We both thought the writing was very well done in that a lot of things are implied but never explicitly said, and in both our opinions it's the best way of conveying a story like this. Great job! The art style is very eye catching and captivating too! -Swan and Boat

Tiny Checkers by thyoi 2024-10-10T06:04:48Z

The amount of polish to the game is unreal! I haven't played checkers in so long but I adore the additions of pieces you added to it, really spices things up in ways that vanilla checkers can only hope for! I played with a mole and a hedgehog and their synergies was so bad but I found it hilarious, thank you for such a lovely experience, I'm gonna keep coming back to it to finish it but have this first! 1thyoi.png -Swan

@thyoi yeah go for it! Glad you like it!

Metal Antlers by lethargic 2024-10-09T05:43:21Z

Fun and intuitive! The atmosphere was really well set with the subtle sound effects and the little bit of text really help set the mood, the limited graphics served it well in that regard too. The creatures' behaviors were fun to figure out and I find myself herding the deer to the electric landmine a lot. Maybe I got lucky my first try cuz I thought it was too easy but on a second playthru I immediately got chased down by a wolf lol. A lot of fun! -Swan

Mooovement Game by MarkAis 2024-10-11T05:39:06Z

We tried our darndest over here but neither of us could strafe like a professional cow would. Once you get into a nice flow of dive, slide and yeet it's incredibly fun, and you can get some serious speed, but once careful mouse and keyboard coordination is necessary we just don't have that cowrdination, but that's on us and not the game. I personally really enjoyed the overall silly atmosphere of the game and all the supplementary materials around it, plus the first funky track is absolutely perfect for it. -Boat

Billions must bite by Spica 2024-10-09T08:21:43Z

Small Problems To Grapple With by Tetracold 2024-10-11T04:37:02Z

Lovely game! This game was actually one we bookmarked a few days ago so when we saw your comment we were really excited! We adore the paper aesthetic art style, the little props like the monster cans and pencil holder cups were drawn so well and with so much care! The physics feel on point, and the little hop you do when you hook on the corner felt really nice. Boat's preferred speed strat was grappling onto the corner and Swan's was to dive after a hop to gain a higher vantage point to see where to grapple. The two of us competed for a while to get the highest score and we both tied on 71 cms :D

Cheese Siege by Snorps 2024-10-23T06:59:03Z

Adorable artstyle, incredibly clean and polished! The game is really fun too, I love a good tower defense game. It was a little tricky to place the blocks/tanks but I got used to it eventually. I would say it could use a bit of balancing cuz I just spam placed tanks everywhere until a stream of mice broke through and overwhelmed me lol. But of course that's understandable with such a short amount of time to work on it. Overall, loved it, would love to see more! -Swan

Tinies Reaper by KriSsS Gonko 2024-10-09T06:08:58Z

Solid platformer, nice music, and cute creatures, great job! -Swan

MushMush by Leykal 2024-10-09T03:52:05Z

Cute game!!! Love the style and the scratchiness of the lineart for the monsters, they're very well animated. The atmosphere is great too. The puzzles are fun but the one issue is that the first hint for me was hidden behind the foreground so it took a while to fully understand the mechanics of moving objects to find hints, but when I did it was intuitive! Great job! -Swan

Tardigrade Travels: A Tardigrade's Terrifyingly Terrific Traversal Through Time! by Plasmak 2024-10-23T07:28:42Z

Wasn't expecting animated cutscenes that's for sure. The whole package is presented in such a nice and educational way I really appreciated it as a sort of interactive learning experience.

I appreciate the lack of a fail state as a way of conveying the absolute survival machines that tardigrades are, but mixing that with an uneven sense of conveyance makes the experience feel a bit more stressful than it needed to be. The fireballs and nuclear particles are very very hard to dodge, and even though you can tank them and move on as if nothing happened that is pretty much impossible to know on first playthrough, plus I think all stages could've benefited from that counting down bar that the nuclear section had over to the left.

This one is more of a personal idea than an actual suggestion, but if death is an impossibility in game, maybe a score that keeps track of how well you survived could encourage repeated playthroughs and provide a sense of accomplishment to players. However this is only true if that's the kind of experience you'd want to create, as an edutainment piece I think it's already a successful venture.

Graphics are of course incredible, the cutscenes are really cute and the stylization of the tardigrade and its walk cycle (swim cycle?) are absolutely pitch perfect, I couldn't get enough of it dopey lil face. Great job to all involved!

Bakudan Baku-tan by TwinkleSoft 2024-10-09T06:25:00Z

I ADORE THE ARTSTYLE. The pixel art is incredibly charming and the parallax of the leaves on a flowing river is really clever and well done. I loveee the character designs, I'm not really a bug connoisseur so I can't entirely tell what they are and/or if they're river insects or any bug in particular but nevertheless they are incredibly charming. Also as a personal fan of these styles of game this was a joy to play tho I must be rusty cuz I'm getting wrecked. Really well done!!! Nice title too :D -Swan

Ratscue by Eugen Rantev 2024-10-10T06:26:21Z

Fun little game, the speed of the attacks had us on our toes, also the intro set dressing set up the mood/stakes really well, good job!

Mightosis by Machinic 2024-10-09T05:56:42Z

Took a sec to figure out, but it after I did I enjoyed strategizing having multiple split cells eating for me while I would walk a ton of tiles ahead, very clever! -Swan

The Pilgrim by Wenyu Bao 2024-10-23T05:34:02Z

Cute game! It took a bit of digging to get the right version but once we did it was a smooth playthrough! The post with the wip/unused animations was what first caught my attention, the art and animation is really cute! The game was short and sweet though the jump at first felt a bit floaty we eventually got used to it. Overall a solid game especially for a first outing, hope to see more from you guys! -Swan

Escape from Wonderland by ViJeMir 2024-10-11T12:34:26Z

The presentation of this game is so nice and unique. Some of my favourite features are the animated elements in the background like the spilling cup of tea and the pocket watch. It adds to that magical whimsical atmosphere, and them being in low frame rate keeps them all very stylish.

I also appreciate the inclusion of the tutorial, the mechanics are very unique to the game, so the extra time dedicated to explaining them not just on the LD page but the game itself is a nice level of polish and foresight that I don't take for granted. Ironically, the pacing of the tutorial is a lot faster with the free roaming camera, and that makes it feel a bit more frantic and exciting, I would love to see a version with this set up.

Echoing a lot of the feedback from before, not knowing when you get hit or when an enemy gets hit makes keeping track of things a bit difficult, specially in the sections where Alice goes behind some elements like the crystals, but the enemies in front can still hit you.

That issue aside, I still really like the overall atmosphere and the recruiting (and betrayal) mechanic did add an extra bit of depth, and it gives some design space and leniency for the auto scroller to be faster without it feeling unfair.

Great entry! -Boat

Stolen Colors by The Spinning Sofa 2024-10-11T06:18:00Z

The character art is adorable and the gameplay mechanic is surprisingly challenging. At first I thought I could just spam scribbles without paying attention but that quickly failed me in the second round when we need to be very mindful of getting spawners as well as maximizing runes. I adore the usage of colors(or lack thereof in at the start) and gradually regaining them from the enemies, it's a very unique and interesting story point!

We really loved the colors influencing gameplay but just a tiny critique being that we wished the locks and spawners were more visually noticeable. When the time is against the players it's really helpful to be able to see things quickly in our peripherals because when we're drawing so fast we're focusing on the end points and it was really easy to miss the locks and wondering why our lines weren't registering. Plus because spawners are by far the most vital part of winning it would've been nice if they were more noticeable. Overall though, a really great game and interesting mechanics and a lot of fun! -Swan
