LD54 — Limited Space

windowkill by torcado 2023-10-05T22:48:58Z

Incredibly unique and innovative idea and a great take on this Ludum Dare's theme. Very much enjoy the part where the boss enemy appears in it's own separate window and you have to work your way towards it. If I would change one thing it would be to ramp up the challenge earlier, as I find myself having to play through the same easy bit over and over again to get to the part that's fun and interesting.

Swear Jar by Steffo 2023-10-07T12:28:48Z

Love the concept and interpretation of theme. Platform and control scheme combo is perfect.

Maybe could be a little more clear that the coins are meant to go into the top of the upgrades, we put ours right in the corner out of the way and it ended up being useless. I do notice the funnel element built into the sprite but maybe that aspect could be accentuated more?

I think there is an issue with the fact you have to pay for upgrades using specific items. If you just changed upgrades to cost e.g $150 rather than 25 gold coins specifically it would get rid of a lot of weird edge cases where you paint yourself into a corner with the order or way you bought things. You'd lose that strict progression from one item to the next, but most incremental games just solve this by having each new item cost an order of magnitude more than the previous, making it difficult to sequence break.

Really enjoy the way you build up from copper coins to precious gem encrusted jewelry and golden chalices.

Overall definitely feel a smoother and more fleshed out version of this game could be a lot of fun.

Falling for my Majesty by edugpinheiro 2023-10-07T19:32:02Z

Cute and fun! Didn't have much reason to move up or down as the camera forces you down at a constant speed anyway, so we just stayed at the top of the screen. Could be neat to have something the player needs to speed up their descent in order to avoid effectively! Love the goblin poses.

Uplimit by Mooptychunk 2023-10-05T23:36:09Z

I had to read over the game's description several times to figure out what to do. In fact, I was about to give up entirely when I figured out how to upsize. The game could maybe do with some more prompts, like maybe the "Uplimit" button flashing once the player reaches 3 math.

Leaving certain game elements clipped off by the edge of the window to show the player that there was more to see over there was a clever idea, but I don't think player's generally expect a game window to change size as they play so this might be missed. (At first I actually thought it was a bug myself.) Maybe a brief animation at the start where the window quickly shrinks down to it's final size in order to communicate the changing window-size mechanic to the player could help? (Like the one in torcado's windowkill.)

That ending was incredibly unexpected but very well done.

Overall a very interesting game, the only one of LD54 so far that I've recommended to a friend.

A Living Place in Limited Space by YellowKamel 2023-10-03T20:20:01Z

A lot of fun! I really enjoy the mixture of 2D and 3D in the visual style. The notes you get as you fail to meet population growth add some fun flavour. If you were to expand on the idea a bit more it would be nice to see some variety in methods for getting yourself out of sticky situations, rather than columns being the only option and always available. Cool Concept!

Shattered Spirits by Tobius 2023-10-07T20:05:04Z

Definitely the most beautiful art from any of this dare's game we've played. Very impressive to have made this in 3 days. The post-jam AI is a lot better, it's a little easy without that.

It wasn't always clear which character I was moving, maybe it could help to have a ghost image of the character being moved follow the mouse pointer?

Limited space could maybe have more of a presence, didn't feel like the tile destruction came up much.

Absolutely one of the best games we've played of the jam! Good stuff.

Prickle by Kultuk 2023-10-05T22:43:39Z

Delightful little puzzle game. Changing the pivot point based on how you arrange the hedgehogs is a really clever mechanic. Sound design is very cute and enjoyable.

Bombastisch by StealthOrc 2023-10-05T23:46:38Z

Love the concept and character designs. The player's shooting animation is very fun. Not sure how well the vampire survivors style clunk goes with attacks that can kill you instantly though. Definitely a cool idea!

Skyfallers by almageddon 2023-10-10T00:41:26Z

Laughed out loud when I missed the platform and the character I was guiding went splat. Highest rating I've given for comedy this jam :3

Shrinking Universe by Snorps 2023-10-06T19:04:56Z

@mastoast Thanks for the feedback! I think you're right about the particle effects, definitely want to steal some game feel tips from Vlambeer games for that one.

The sound effects are actually all made in VCV Rack too! :3

appendage bedlam by moldovanul 2023-10-05T23:56:20Z

Waggling your sword around with the mouse is definitely a fun idea. Good atmosphere. Could definitely do with some refinement of the core gameplay, I don't think the enemies actually damage the player.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Invertaburied by bradur 2024-10-22T13:36:31Z

Felt a cool sense of exploration at first, the way the world is revealed to you bit by bit as you move closer feels really cool. I think the progression would feel more satisfying if it felt like I was working towards more than just new colours of dirt to eat? I don't ever even feel like I'm digging through the dirt that much faster as I get more mouth upgrades because each colour of dirt is tougher than the last, this makes it feel kinda tedious. I love the way the upgrades are represented with abstract icons where you have to kinda figure out what they mean.

AquariumHunter by Jcourt 2024-10-23T11:25:17Z

Managed to ping myself onto the top of the tank and shimmy over the edge and leap into the void 10/10

fishbone by NotExplosive 2024-10-21T15:41:46Z

Blown away by this one. I love the way the character controller feels. Honestly felt scared until the first time a spider caught me, could maybe take things in more of a horror direction if the enemies were less good at catching the player while stile posing a credible threat.

Tossed and Found by SleepyStudios 2024-10-23T12:37:23Z

Love the enemy coded creatures that are actually just lil helpful guys. Seemed like there were a lot of unnecessary elements in the puzzlier levels which were confusing, but maybe I was just solving the puzzles in an unintended way?

Mercenary Exorcist by juju 2024-10-22T17:11:52Z

I love the little goblin noises and the main menu where you shoot to navigate is awesome. While playing I wasn't sure if I was dying or succesfully beating the enemies and moving to the next round, and it wasn't always clear if my shots were damaging the enemies and they just take multiple hits to kill or if I was missing them, so it would be nice if the game gave you more feedback for both of those.

Leafkin Quest by Ethernal Tech 2024-10-21T15:46:59Z

You cast quite a wide net with this one, could be a good idea to focus down on what makes your game fun for the next one, there's a lot of features here that must have taken time to implement but don't add much like the character creator and levelling system. Love the little creatures. :3

Critter Season by Trezark 2024-10-22T14:20:24Z

A fun little resource management game with a lovely atmosphere and visuals. The ending was pretty unsatisfying, it felt like I did everything I could to defend my creatures (built a tower in every space) but they still eventually died anyway. If I was given a score when I eventually failed it would have just felt like an arcade game but in the absence of that it should probably be possible for the player to win if they survive enough rounds. It would also be nice to be able to mouse over the different buildings and find out how much they cost without having to have a villager in your hand.

EX-TERMINATOR by steel465 2024-10-21T15:48:38Z

Clicking so much hurt my finger. Could do with some more feedback for enemies taking damage like flashing white/sound playing etc. Love the title art of the exterminator

Mosquito Simulator by lance110 2024-10-22T14:26:45Z

Fun concept. This game could benefit from having less rigid "snappy" movement as well as randomly generated levels. It isn't always clear what kills you when you move your mosquito around. Having everything gradually move faster was a good choice.

Lovely vibe and a perfect implementation of the theme. :3
