This is the best polished game I've played so far! I really liked the art style and meeting all the little guys in the main screen! the gameplay was fun too
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD56 → Leafkin Quest

Such a cute game, i really liked it ! Just a bit sad that there is no feedback/event for the accomplishement of the task. Also i didnt see that i had the left click to do some spells so i did the levels only with the others x)))
The game is cute. Town has a great feel to it and the character models are fantastic.
Attacking felt good, though the spell didn't seem to do much. Also, aside from a bit of max hp, it didn't feel like leveling up did anything either.
Fighting the monsters was fun, but most of my time in the game was spent walking around the empty dungeon afterward trying to find which direction the sacred leaf was in. Would be nice to include an indicator pointing the way.
Lastly, I haven't worked with GameMaker in a while, so I'm not sure if it's the only export method, but the installer felt like overkill.
@bobap Thank you so much, really! <3
I've just added the portable format option. I usually export it as an installer, and I had forgotten about it, so thanks for the feedback.
Regarding the game, there’s still a lack of feedback when leveling up. I couldn't polish everything as much as I wanted, but I'll make a note of it and upload an update once the JAM is over (so that what is played now remains just for the JAM).
@mitsukoy Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you liked it! You're right, there’s a lack of feedback when completing tasks. I didn’t have enough time to implement everything I wanted, but I’ll keep it in mind for a future update. And regarding the controls, I’ll try to provide more visual information, as well as for the abilities. Thanks for your feedback!
@sirblazealot Thank you so much! I'm really happy that you enjoyed the game and its art style. I'm also glad that you found the gameplay fun. Thanks for giving it a try!
What a great 'little' game! And it wouldn't be a game jam without a bunch of things you had to cut before the deadline, hah. There's always next jam :)
Great use of theme, being a berry is great. And such a nice little option to be able to pick your color - I made sure to be grape (clearly the best berry soldier).
very cute and polished! could easily see this as a fully fledged game
I really loved the hub and the artstyle! It definitely felt like something I would play. Overall I think your player character feels good, though maybe the dash needs some refinement. That said, I don't think the enemies felt very well developed - even the very basic enemies felt like they wouldn't die to my attacks at all, and they didn't enter hitstun ever either. If you end up developing this into a full game definitely give some more love to the dungeons and enemies.
Artstyle feels nice, the way text appears too ! The Q spell doesn't seem quite efficient. You can use it to hit multiple targets, but you have to be pretty close to them to do so. If I want to play safe, I can just run around, kiting ennemies with my left click and never lose an HP, while using Q might ends with me losing half my life. But definitely, the game is a really great base, and doing this much in a Jam is quite impressive!
now, this one is AMAZING !! The graphics, the mechanics. U made so much in 2 days ! amazing. Keep going, and check my game
NIKE PRO GAME PALITRA
This game is the most polished I've encountered so far in the jam! 🌟 The art style is captivating, and I absolutely enjoyed encountering all the charming characters right from the main screen. The gameplay itself was delightful. The town atmosphere is engaging, and the character designs are top-notch. 🏘️ Although the levels were on the easier side, they were impressively crafted considering the time constraints of Ludum Dare. What a wonderful 'little' game!
If there were a web build I would try it - very cute looking game!
Stunning visual, very good job guys
The graphics were nice and everything fitted together. The "thorn spell" felt very good. It's nice to have such a strong AOE attack.
The magic attack (left mouse) on the other side felt underwhelming damage wise. It's also a little bit tedious to klick the left mouse every time. I would like to just hold it for autoshooting.
Finding the leaves felt more like a time filler. I would prefer it to just appear next to me or at least have some enemies on the way.
The controls felt good and I liked the gameloop, so I ended the main quest and had fun doing it. :) Good job and keep up the great work.
Cool game. very beautiful graphics and animations. Maybe ennemies are a little to "aggressive". They runs on you (even during the reading phase) and always knows where you are. So the game is more like "kill them all" and after "look after the leaf in an empty dungeons". I ask myself if it would not be funnier to decrease the aggro zone of the mobs.
@ronn-fever Thank you so much! Haha, you're absolutely right, it wouldn’t be a game jam without having to cut a bunch of things before the deadline. But there’s always the next jam!
@oren-hope I'm really glad you liked the art style! You're right about the Q spell; it's not quite balanced. I wanted it to be useful for hitting multiple enemies, but it's true that you have to be very close to make the most of it. I've uploaded a small patch with balance adjustments so that people trying it out don't experience those disadvantages. Thanks for the feedback!
@inre-dan Thank you so much! I'm glad you think it's a cute game. As for exporting it to the web, I don't see it being feasible at the moment, but I will try to do it in future jams!
Cute and fun game! The gameplay felt good and I really liked the different abilities. I was able to get the four sacred leaves, but I wasn't sure if that was the end of the game since there wasn't a proper "ending".
btw I think being able to choose the color of the leafkin was a really nice little detail!
@lllarso Thank you so much for your feedback! I understand your comments about the magic attack (left click). I recognize that it can feel a bit weak and tedious to click every time; I will consider implementing an option to attack by holding the left click in the future. Thank you for playing and for your kind words!
@djidanebe Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the game and its graphics style. I understand your point about the enemies' aggressiveness, and you're absolutely right. Due to the time constraints of the jam, I designed their behavior to be very basic. In the future, I would like to approach it more like a 'maze,' where enemies only track you when you're close by. I'll keep that in mind, and once the jam is over, I'll get to work on it! ;) Thanks for your suggestions!
I liked the game, very interesting design and mechanics
Cute little game!
I had some trouble finding a window to heal because the enemies were too fast for me to stop. I ended up giving it up and going full berserk on them. You might give a slow effect to them if hit by the spell if you decide to work further on it. A little tweak to the steps sound could be good too.
In any case a solid entry for a jam! I had fun playing it.
Hm... so, I collected 4 leaves as requested. Is there something else to do afterwards?
Seems like the summoner enemies are the most important to get rid of and spamming Q does the trick.
I love this artstyle so much! The cute little guys bouncing were so cute.
The different abilities were great, you guys killed it!
Please keep developing!
This might be my favourite game so far! I had such a blast playing it and was completely left wanting more. I cannot wait to see where you take this project in the future!
The aesthetic of this game is so beautiful, the art, music and sound effects all work together perfectly and are a joy to experience.
I loved the gameplay, it's simple but satisfying and yet gets quite challenging quite quickly. It's really fun!
Good work, I'm waiting for more!
@reecemungus I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed it so much and were left wanting more. I hope I can find the time to develop it further and see where it goes! Thank you so much, really <3
@firellon For the jam, I only created the mission of collecting 4 leaves, but you can keep playing beyond that since the dungeons are generated infinitely, and their difficulty increases with the number of leaves you collect (up to a certain limit, haha). As for the enemies, they definitely need more development and mechanics so it's not just about spamming one attack... You’ll see more in future versions ;)
It a cute and nice little game, the things I would change is make the sound effects - especially the footsteps - a bit quieter, or give an option to manually change the volume; and the ranged enemy's bullets should not follow the player, instead they could shoot in a pattern to give more uses to the dash ability.
Design is so cute!
love the design !
Love the content and love the art. The combat feels a little bit stiff to me, but that's probably down to personal preference. Overall, very cool!
Amazing result for one man! Hats off to you!
The graphics are awesome for its style. The game clearly has potential
However, there are some notes: the staff seemed a bit useless to me, perhaps because of the lack of its pumping. Background music would be very helpful
Dude, it amazes me how you can do something like that on GameMaker alone 🤯 . Your game impressed me, I spent 30 minutes of my life on it and I don't regret it.
**Strengths of your game:** - Graphics - everything is done in a uniform style, and the style itself is pleasing to the eye. Gorgeous!!! - Variety of enemies and levels - yes, there aren't many types of enemies, but they don't get boring so quickly. - And the levels seem to be procedurally generated, which is very good! - Variety of mechanics - if you figure out how to combine them properly, you can become a skilful dude in this game :sunglasses: - Sound effects - feel like an integral part of the game
**Not the strongest points:** - Lack of music - it is woefully lacking - Lack of a store - you have coins, but nowhere to spend them.
I'm sure that all the shortcomings are only due to lack of time, after all, this is Ludum Dare! A lot of work has been done, I want you not to abandon your game, it has great potential!
I was wondering how far I could go  Bottom line: level 8 and 347 coins And then I got bored  LeafkinQuest.png
The art is very cute. I enjoyed the interactions with the other little characters. Of course I didn't read the instructions first but when I discovered the dash I def started enjoying the game more. Great job!
@cliva Thank you so much for the kind words!🥺 I’m really glad you enjoyed the game and saw its potential.
Regarding the weapon, you’re absolutely right, if I continue developing the game, I’d love to add more variety and make them feel more impactful, possibly with on-hit effects or other improvements. As for the background sounds, I completely forgot to include them! But I’m really excited to keep working on the game and add ambient sounds to enhance the experience.
Thanks again for the feedback!<3
@motoIlyuha Thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that you played that much and enjoyed the game. As for the weaker points, you’re absolutely right. The lack of music and a store were mainly due to time constraints (Ludum Dare really pushes those limits!), but if I continue with the game, both of those are definitely on my list of things to address ;)) I’d love to add a shop system so those coins actually have a use, and I agree that music would help set the tone even better. I really appreciate the feedback and encouragement!!<3
@desibragg Thank you! I’m glad you liked the art and the interactions with the characters!
I have to say, the other controls are shown on the screen, but I totally forgot to include the dash in there 😅. Glad you discovered it and enjoyed the game more after that!
Thanks for the feedback!🥺
Nice game! The art is beautiful, controls feel nice and sound effect are fine. As other pointed out, it would be great if there was a cutscene or something after you fulfill the quest, and also something to do with coins, but I get that this is game jam, and there is only so much person can do in limited time. My main feedback would be: the battles are a bit too easy, and only threat to the player are shooting monsters, if you kill them other have no way to catch up to you, which makes battle really hard on the start and then too easy, so some balancing is needed. Anyway, great job, I had fun playing!
Can't believe all it done only in jam! Implement more mechanics and it will be cool tiny game! Hard to understand who take damage me or enemies, control is not perfect, but i it was fun 10 minutes)
You cast quite a wide net with this one, could be a good idea to focus down on what makes your game fun for the next one, there's a lot of features here that must have taken time to implement but don't add much like the character creator and levelling system. Love the little creatures. :3
Game looks and feels great! Super fun and polished submission!! The only thing I ask for is more. Great work!
THIS IS SO CUTE!!!!!! I love this game so much, one of my favourites!
