Not bad game, simple but tasteful
I like the idea that you cant directly attack the other frog and your more in a race. Really like your sprites!
I thought the game was really cute! I wish the combo meter had an effect on gameplay - I loved the risk/reward of trying to get several flies on your tongue at once (and potentially losing them all), but once I realized it didn't help you race the frog, I started going for safer strategies. It feels like increasing the payout for combos is a good opportunity to entice the player into taking more risks! :)

The sprites are just adorable! 🎨❤️ The combo mechanics add tension and a sense of risk, especially when you're trying to catch as many flies as possible at once. 🦟🔥 Overall, the game leaves a pleasant impression, brings a smile and a healthy excitement! 👏

I really enjoyed it. The pixel art looks incredibly cute, and the music was perfectly chosen. The simple yet engaging mechanics make the game quite addictive. Personally, I found the second level a bit too difficult—I failed (shameful defeat!). But overall, it’s wonderful!

I think my biggest frustration came from my character's movement speed. Because the chameleon moved about as fast as a falling bug, if a bug ever passed my vertical position, it was practically guaranteed that I wouldn't be able to recover from it. In general this wouldn't be too big of an issue, but far too often I would find myself getting blocked off by a falling spike in a way that would make it impossible for me to get a fly, which would then mean that it would fall below me and make it unobtainable, which was annoying. :sweat_smile:
The rest of the game is very solid, design-wise, though! The spikes prevent players from just sticking their tongue out and waiting, and there's actual incentive to move up and down to collect them. If you just tweaked that ONE number that controls the vertical speed of the character, I think everything else in the game would click into place without any other changes. :smile:

Nice job! Maybe there could be a way to cross over to the other tree to catch flies from another angle, with a malus if you get hit while crossing? Otherwise I'd say this is a pretty nicely rounded little game! Well done!
@phyrocast I had such an idea, but I didn’t have time to implement it.
I like how you took a few simple mechanics and made a fun challenging game. It took me several tries to get past shameful defeat and into victory! I like the tension between having to risk getting two flies - and maybe stunned - for the benefit of a speed boost. The sound effects and music and graphics all work together nicely. The only critique I'd offer is to let the player not restart from round one each time. Well done.
