LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Skrungle Rescue by dooskington 2024-10-08T17:01:30Z

You did this solo in 48 hours? That's incredible !! The sounds and idea are so cute (background music on itch is chillin). The attacking mechanism could be more balanced, sure, but having the red box show where you attack was helpful :)

I identify with skrungles

Slime Store Simulator 2024 by gamesplusjames 2024-10-08T20:16:28Z

There is so much I love about this game. It did take me a few minutes to piece together how to play, but the tutorial info (and after I actually read it) was helpful!

It is SO cute. I think some people shoplifted my store?? I love the animation for shelving items! I wish there was something to buy to make more shoppers come to your store to make it busy or change the name (but it's already perfect).

Moving around in 3D and being able to jump just because was so satisfying, and with this art style I felt like I was playing a Roblox tycoon again (wayy back haha).

A few times, after buying something or picking it up, my camera would shoot down, but no game breaking glitches or anything crazy. Loved throwing all my empty boxes in the corner or a slime pen!

If You Give A Mouse A Machinegun by Shaolin Dave 2024-10-08T17:05:03Z

No need for the apologies! This was a great concept with artistic potential :) Love love love the name/idea, the walking was so derpy (I loved), and the graphics felt genuine.

I would personally change firing/jumping to clicking and spacebar, but the controls were easy to get used to.

Tiny Creature Tower Defense by Kivade 2024-11-01T14:03:43Z

I love TD games! This has a great style and level of polish for a game jam. Nothing feels lacking or out of place. A chiptune in the background might help the game out, but I love what the shooting sound effects add :)

Cheese or Squeeze by DGSpitzer 2024-10-13T06:02:37Z

This was so much fun to mess around with. Super impressive for a game jam! I really like the idea behind this one and would be interested in seeing it develop further :)

Squizzard by JammedGame 2024-10-09T01:54:49Z

Definitely start with fire lol. I absolutely LOVE the art here. Both the cover and the gameplay art is so professional. I love the idea of the 4 different powers and their progression. Gameplay could be more balanced (I lost with ice blast starter:/)

Bees Save Themselves by MayChant 2024-10-13T05:49:38Z

Loved so much about this game! The art style was super clean, and I thought the concept was very creative. I liked trying out the different bees and coming up with fun strategies. Very nice work :)

Head'quarters by YogurtTheHorse 2024-10-13T06:08:50Z

Very creative and fun moving the guys around. Gameplay loop has room to expand, so I'd really like to see where this takes off! The art was so so on point :)

Harvest Hijinks by Hunt 2024-10-09T19:41:54Z

First of all, I LOVE the art, music, and concept of the game. I think you have a really nice idea here, and I'd be exciting to see it "sprout" into a full game.

Some feedback: doing well in the game seems to rely on placing a few high value sprouts early and starting the round while still having currency. Then, placing bushes (grown ones, not seeds) directly on enemies to avoid a loss on round 1. Having different icons for a seed bush vs sprout/full would help, and maybe some direction to encourage placement after starting the round.

Apparatus by evindor 2024-10-09T01:02:17Z

I love the style and the concept so much!! The click attack seemed OP then I saw it damaged everything  This game is hard, or I'm bad at it. So lots of replay value!!

Tiny Territories by Willby 2024-10-08T20:26:10Z

I don't know how I did #5 but 6 has me stumped! First puzzle game I've seen so far. Calming music to help me think, cool graphics, and fun mechanics that we get eased into from too easy to (for me) too hard!

Update: I had one rabbit left and I just beat 6 :))

Very fun! tiny-territories.png

Tiny Territories by Willby 2024-10-09T15:11:31Z

@willby I only just beat it. It was TOUGH!

Pied Piper's Payback by Crygos 2024-10-13T06:12:39Z

Cute art style and perspective. I liked the idea of luring those little plague rat creatures to their inevitable demise >:)

Shrimpy by Kultuk 2024-10-13T06:16:42Z

Yes! A classic doodle jumper game with fun graphics :) I died from an (I think) impossible jump, but I love the idea of adding powerups and whatnot to this game as the art and music were impressive!

Small Problems To Grapple With by Tetracold 2024-10-09T15:20:37Z

22cm - I absolutely love the art style and games where you can kind of mess around and just have fun! The enemies felt a little overwhelming and frustrating at times with no real way to get around them, but getting a good swing in was so satisfying. I think making the red tint just affect the peripherals would be a nice change. It didn't go away, even in the menu, but I enjoyed the effect letting me know I was in danger!

ANTventure Time by Dywanix 2024-10-09T16:23:12Z

Love the art and concept of commanding an army around to progress! I love upgrade trees a little too much maybe, but this felt like a very complete game! I played this one a lot more than others to finish it, and if you made upgrades a formula with no end, I'd probably keep playing haha. I love the bones. They don't need to be there, but they are and it adds to the atmosphere.

Placeholders vs Golems by mcdima 2024-10-09T01:37:49Z

This is a super cool concept! I like the direction the game is going in a lot (this was my first game jam and game too). The perspective and 3D objects that were really only used in 2D was a novel concept.

City Saver by BuzzyDev 2024-10-09T17:39:54Z

I LOVED this game. Maybe a little more as a concept than a full game, but it's a jam after all! I was going to ask if the music was AI, but honestly that's a really good idea for a jam (I relied on beepbox and did not have the same great results you have for sound design). I think it fits the theme well enough, but it would be cool to see more creatures added as playable protagonists if you continue with the game.

Quick feedback: I don't see the purpose of the dash, and giving it a cooldown icon like abilities could make it easier to discover. The play button was a little hard to see (the triangle part). A pause/menu button would be a nice feature. The difficulty seemed to be just waiting on cooldowns to guarantee the win, BUT the animations were really cool and felt super impactful (especially the ultimate).

Gangsta Turt! by Nick Halstead 2024-10-08T15:09:10Z

I made a post about it, but I figured out how to export the game compressed correctly for Web 15mins after submission deadline (we had to go to work that day lol).

It's the same as the .zip, but technically late. For convenience anyways: https://curioustaco.itch.io/gangsta-turt

Gangsta Turt! by Nick Halstead 2024-10-08T15:12:33Z

Thank you for the feedback! I thought about adding a sound effect (even made one), but I thought it would be annoying with how fast you shoot.

But also should mention the turtle and spider were free assets that we *ahem* borrowed. The other assets and music were made during the jam! We checked the box to opt out of the art ratings.

Gangsta Turt! by Nick Halstead 2024-10-10T00:25:06Z

Thank you everyone for the feedback and comments! It truly means a lot for our first jam. @iwant-pizza the itch.io link works! I've tried re-uploading a the browser version twice now after getting the compression settings right, but I don't know what to do differently :/ The .zip also works, but the HTML5 upload on Ludum Dare is the same as itch, not sure why one isn't loading.

Gangsta Turt! by Nick Halstead 2024-10-28T17:32:18Z

Thank you everyone for your feedback this jam! Learning how to use C# for games, Unity, source control, tilemaps, pixel art, and music/sound creation for this jam was very eye-opening for how much goes into game jams (and making video games as a whole). I'm looking forwards to improving my skills to make my next jam better!

Ants War by Danikmiks 2024-10-08T19:15:47Z

LOVE the music and the cover art- I kind of got vibes of this game Crawl (dungeon crawler with fun monsters). I agree having some sort of indication that you hit the frogs would help elevate this game if you continue working on it. Very polished / clean running game for the jam! Oh! Almost forgot to mention that I love the death animations. Those are so fun and make me feel so evil >:)

Heart Attack by pacific14 2024-10-09T19:33:11Z

I so love the (he)art style and mechanics with a custom upgrade path. I think losing is a little abrupt, and some music would be nice, but I like the animations and sound effect of shooting! These tiny creatures are some of the cutest :)

Midnight Garden [DEMO] by Hawkessmont 2024-10-08T17:14:09Z

So taken aback by the stunningly beautiful art! The story obviously isn't finished (was a jam!), but I'd love to hear how it continues :)

Planet Diver by milano23 2025-04-13T03:30:49Z

There was a cool concept here, but I agree that the controls are kinda hard. It did make it a fun challenge! I found not moving left or right actually took me really far lol.

Deepest Canyon by muriel 2025-04-11T01:08:46Z

I got to the end of the buckets. This game took a minute to get used to the swing physics. I was bad at aiming at the skinny pillars while going fast or being far away. All that said, I absolutely loved feeling like spiderman so 5/5 game in my book :)

Hollowspire by simex 2025-04-13T04:01:11Z

Amazing game, took a bit to beat the very end but 10/10 game from being fun to having great style :)

Hoard by Talif Moor 2025-04-11T01:16:20Z

So stressful but engaging! My score got boosted when I starting entering the wrong ones on purpose to gain time. High score of 108!

Meanepth by rensun 2025-04-11T05:14:31Z

This was very interesting, but the visual effects put into this game were nothing short of stunning!

Cave Escape by Flinge 2025-04-11T05:02:08Z

Such an amazing and complete game! No aspect lacking, loved the doodle jump inspiration :)

Adam, Rejected by MashedPotato 2025-04-11T00:56:20Z

I loved these graphic and the whole vibe, but we all know here that the voice acting was killer! Not what I was expecting for a game jam, blown away :0
