Funny concept. The turtle and spider graphics look well made. I wish the gun had sound effects.

I made a post about it, but I figured out how to export the game compressed correctly for Web 15mins after submission deadline (we had to go to work that day lol).

It's the same as the .zip, but technically late. For convenience anyways: https://curioustaco.itch.io/gangsta-turt

Thank you for the feedback! I thought about adding a sound effect (even made one), but I thought it would be annoying with how fast you shoot.

But also should mention the turtle and spider were free assets that we *ahem* borrowed. The other assets and music were made during the jam! We checked the box to opt out of the art ratings.

Interesting idea! Suitable audio

The turtle is very gangsta! I think adding particle effects to the bullet hitting enemies and enemies dying would add a lot to the game. I like that you need to stop to shoot. Good job.

nice little game. for me only the itch.io link worked, i think youre allowed to edit the page if you like.

The premise is so absurd I had to check it out, you are *indeed* a turtle that shoots spiders. Wish the gun had a little more feedback (muzzle flash, blast sound), I think the game could also benefit from putting those jewels to use, like buying a bigger gun to fight bigger swarms of spiders. Interesting choice to have to be still to aim and fire, makes it feel a bit different. I dig the vibe this puts out, A+ for creative use of your assets.

yooo gangsta turt be shootin! Love the fresh feel of having to stop to attack, that's nice

iwant-pizza 2024-10-09 22:01

Dam i can't run this coolest game in history :(

nick-halstead 2024-10-10 00:25

Thank you everyone for the feedback and comments! It truly means a lot for our first jam. @iwant-pizza the itch.io link works! I've tried re-uploading a the browser version twice now after getting the compression settings right, but I don't know what to do differently :/ The .zip also works, but the HTML5 upload on Ludum Dare is the same as itch, not sure why one isn't loading.

Interesting idea, worth working on the art style. Still, the stop & shot mechanics are not familiar

djtequila 2024-10-10 16:51

Nice game, stop to shoot was a cool addition. I think the spiders spawn too close to the player sometimes though. Congrats on your first entry!

samuli 2024-10-12 13:12

Turtle's gotta protect their hood. Good job!

fractal 2024-10-13 11:46

In this kind of game you should *definitely* be able to shoot while moving, it feels really weird otherwise, I think. Otherwise, well done and nice art (I wish there were animations, though). And is right-click supposed to do something?

baturinsky 2024-10-13 13:28

About as basic and straightforward as it is possible. I understand that two days is very little, especially for first timers, but even with just ONE twist to gameplay it would be much more interesting experience both for players and for you.

Cool idea, nice audio, very cool game

Great game, nice matching with theme, keep going

Thank you everyone for your feedback this jam! Learning how to use C# for games, Unity, source control, tilemaps, pixel art, and music/sound creation for this jam was very eye-opening for how much goes into game jams (and making video games as a whole). I'm looking forwards to improving my skills to make my next jam better!
