Incredible! This is the first game in LD54 that I've rated all 5's! I was hooked from the start, and I've rarely seen such a unique and interesting traversal mechanic. Feels a bit like the first time I tried to wrap my head around Portal. You guys need to develop this into a full game and put it on Steam!

2023-10-03 05:49

This is incredibly creative! 10/5 Innovation. I've never seen anything like this gameplay before. Great puzzles, clever mechanic, solid writing for a jam game. "Rigged with High-Expansives" took me a second to get :)

The only issue I ran into is that it gave me a bit of a headache playing it! I think it was something about the blurry graphics, it felt like my eyes were always trying to re-focus.

Overall, amazing entry! Well done!

2023-10-03 06:01

Wow! So unusual. It's really exciting!

zungryware 2023-10-03 08:43

You guys seem to have a real talent for making weird and wonderful games. Such a strange mechanic but it works so well here! I feel like a lot more could be done by adding some augmenting mechanics. This is definitely full-release worthy if you explore the puzzle design potential some more. Fantastic work!

benk 2023-10-03 09:14

Incredible, so well done. Puzzles were so inventive, like "what-if-portal-but-ludum-dare-and-stretching", I was genuinely excited to keep on playing right to the end. The plot payoff gave me a lot of joy :-) The music and audio was subtle in the best way.

fuse-in-a-bowl 2023-10-03 09:55

What a great game! I love how much you explored the single mechanic, especially the informational use in the arrow level.

I also found all the elephant graffiti

2023-10-04 01:56

Super fun innovative game! Best I've played up to now, I had a lot of fun with it and you had great humour and voice acting, well done! This could really stretch to a longer game :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

fivecyclops 2023-10-04 07:32

Absolutly brilliant! Innovative gameplay, fun story, quality and interesting level design. Everything's just great ! I'd love to play more of it !

valentinwb 2023-10-04 16:20

I think this is my favorite one yet ! everything is so polished, Congrats guys !

joe-bevis 2023-10-04 17:35

Stretchmancer is incredibly well made and super fun to play! The level of polish for a game jam is impressive too, with amazing sound effects and voice acting to add to an already fun experience. It wasn't a stretch for me to give this game 5 starts all round!

jerem-watts 2023-10-04 20:03

What a fantastic game. From the art all the way to the audio. Excellent job fellas https://youtu.be/wbupkBvK0fE

blazejmg917 2023-10-04 22:21

This game is incredibly innovative and creative. This is one of those games where I get excited trying to think about how it would have been implemented after I've played it. This core mechanic allows for so much creativity in the level and puzzle design and you really use it to its fullest here! The levels are incredibly interesting and fun to play through, and the audio really adds a ton to the experience.

My only complaint would be the camera snapping. When I tried to turn the camera with my mouse, it would suddenly jump harshly to the side. I'm assuming this is designed in order to make the 4-direction locked stretching easier to handle, but I think that some vector math to calculate which direction the hand should go would be less jarring to the player.

Outside of that one complaint, major props to the whole team, this game was absolutely incredibly and the scope of it just blows me out of the water. Great Job!

raptorspank 2023-10-05 00:15

I am always impressed by what people are able to make in such a short time, and this game is certainly one of them. I played through the whole game because it was oddly compelling. It captured a lot of the gameplay feel that portal had, but with an overall setting feel similar to Star Fox. Great combination and I think you could really have a lot to go on here if you wanted to make something larger out of it.

aes1 2023-10-05 03:45

this is my favorite game definitely should polish and continue a bit a work what a amazing game! :)

stevenjmiller 2023-10-05 03:56

Simply incredible, super innovative and fun. Would love to see more with this mechanic.

t-c 2023-10-05 05:25

Awesome work! Super creative mechanic, and managed to use it in a bunch of non-trivial, non-repetitive ways. Glad I ran across this one on the games list!

choo 2023-10-05 13:00

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone. We're so chuffed people are enjoying it!

@blazejmg917 I'm not aware of any camera snapping. The game should play like the video above your comment. Perhaps you had the mouse sensitivity high (you can change this in the settings by pressing enter)? Would be eager to solve the bug if there is one.

blazejmg917 2023-10-05 14:17

@choo I've played it again on a different computer and didn't run into the same issue, so it's possible that it may have been something weird on my end causing it. I don't think it would have been a sensitivity issue but in case you'd like a more descriptive report on the bug I was previously having, whenever i'd turn my camera to the side roughly 60 degrees it would snap another 30-ish degrees in that same direction.

But regardless, I think you have a fantastic game here! And if nobody else is commenting on the issue, I think you're likely safe to assume it was just my mouse or computer bugging out haha

choo 2023-10-05 14:36

@blazejmg917 awesome thanks so much for double checking! :)

kippp 2023-10-05 15:13

so good! The mechanic is super clever, also the n64 aesthetic I think really matched the how the level stretches! Game runs perfectly smooth on webgl.

2023-10-05 18:10

This is pretty genius. Excellent work.

geckoo1337 2023-10-05 21:17

Math is everywhere. Interesting technology under this cool project (thank you for the post-mortem article). Controls work well as expected and the main gameplay is clever. The retro aesthetic is gorgeous. Pictures and dialogs in-game remind me StarFox game. It can be improved with more time I guess. I notice a little bug with the camera along the walls (reduce the Clipping Planes Near Camera value). Really you made a solid entry. Well done. Thank you for this strange experience. Team I wish you the best ++

2023-10-05 21:23

Simple and great! I really loved the voices!

equalenergy 2023-10-05 21:26

Super great gameplay, maybe a more fleshed out story but the star fox 64-esque text boxes made me happy!

robert-li 2023-10-05 21:28

Genius gameplay, cool graphics, polished movement and controls, intriguing level design. I found a gem! Awesome entry! Good Job!

baconeta 2023-10-05 21:43

A beautiful game and some ingenius innovation. I have no words, I enjoyed it a lot. I also am a math lover and major, so this tickles every bone in my body <3 :D

purplexy 2023-10-05 21:46

Wooow, well, that's innovative enough :D

Super cool, I played till the very end, and I would very much like to play a full game like this. This gameplay, those voices... Excellent!

kris3 2023-10-05 21:48

Best game I've seen so far. Everything about the game is great, it reminded me of Portal.

ackbad 2023-10-05 21:52

By far the best game I've seen this jam. I hope you guys go on to make a full length game out of this.

2023-10-05 21:54

Great classic vibe, with a crazy portal-level mechanic! Really fun puzzle solving tool, and a lot of nostalgia for retro games! Thank you for sharing this!!

harksa 2023-10-05 21:58

What a nice game ! Very interesting puzzle design too. The only downside is how short it is. I honestly wish there were more levels to it.

Keep up the good work !

game-dev-with-michael 2023-10-05 22:13

Wow, awesome game here. Star Fox like conversations, the awesome stretch ability.

The mechanic could have a full game around it! Awesome job.

nanamaki 2023-10-05 22:26

I LOVE THIS! The concept is so cool and the coresponding puzzles are fun to play. Simple and cool graphic which really reminds me of the classic FPSs like Doom. And you have interesting story. I am more than willing to play any new stages!

2023-10-05 23:16

Holy shit what a game mechanic! Flawless execution, and you even got VA lines in there. I really didn't want to get in that ship and I wanted like 20 more floors in the prison to make my way through. Fantastic entry!

nick-baggett 2023-10-05 23:23

My favorite entry so far! I loved the mechanic, so unique and it fir the theme so well! Having to stretch the room to read text was so cool, and made me feel awesome!

edugpinheiro 2023-10-05 23:48

So far the best game I played, a very innovative idea and a neat execution

I wonder how you guys managed the polishing and the bug fixing

Very well done, keep the good work

mooyett 2023-10-06 01:43

Man.. That's amazing. Introducing a brand new game mechanic, lovely graphics (made me nostalgic from my PS1), funny voice acting, a whole universe introduced and even some easter eggs... in 72 hours? 1000 congrats!!

whysguy52 2023-10-06 03:03

this is amazing! jealous i didn't come up with it LOL

2023-10-06 07:44

That was the single most creative idea i have seen so far. And everything around it was realy matching the feeling. I would definitly play that game in a bigger version!

tjm 2023-10-06 10:00

Very nice! The visuals and gameplay really evoke the era you're going for, and the axis-stretching gameplay has a lot of potential. I'm glad Jam and Compo games don't compete with each other in Innovation!

A few very minor points: - The text didn't display for me in a couple of places; not a problem, since the voices were very clear and crisp. - It's possible to break the dialogue sequence on level 4 if you take the secret path early, then come back - but you probably already know about that. - There's a Source Code link on the LD page, but it doesn't seem to link to any source code?

But again these are just tiny things; overall this is a very fun and well-made entry, I hope it does well!

agk 2023-10-06 12:44

What a ride. I once thought it would be cool to have a game that distorted space. This game turned my imagination into a reality. Thank you for the experience, I loved it!

Hm, what feedback can I give....

Perhaps it would be interesting if there was more jump or something. I felt like I fall down so quickly, it would be cool to have more jump-stretch puzzles, especially climbing back up felt so tedious to me (maybe thats okay, not sure). The graphics seems to do the job, but it would be interesting to see what it could be if you guys end up developing it more. Oh and the puzzles were clever, every time I was solving a new problem and think in different ways.

Well done guys!

2023-10-06 13:58

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts and feedback everyone!

@tjm 1) Yes we have an issue with fullscreen making text disappear (don't know why!) 2) Ha ha, good point! 3) Well spotted, at least we can fix that one easily - just fixed :)

aweskybear 2023-10-06 18:03

Incredibly polished!!! The dialogues, movement, the mechanic, the audio - it all fits perfectly! Aaaand.. when you fall into a dark abyss... oh my! I love the falling sound (reminds me of one very old game, an FPS...). And the whole gameplay gets you into a flow state : )) All thumbs up!

Still, I have only one question - and only one thing bothered me: should the resolution be that low? Was it intentional or something with performance or rendering concern? I think a bit more crisper reso would make for even greater experience! Maybe I am wrong? Everything but this: amazing entry! Congrats! :v:

fahim-faysal 2023-10-07 12:03

Really cool mechanic and the puzzle design is very polished for a jam. My only complaint is that due to the color palette/low res, the ledges can blend in with the walls. On one of the levels, I had solved the puzzle but I didn't understand where to go since I couldn't see the ledge. Sound is great and fits the retro vibes. Story is hilarious. Overall a very polished entry.

2023-10-07 15:54

INCREDIBLE entry especially for a jam!

2023-10-08 11:06

Brilliant! No idea how you had time to figure out the gameplay AND do a fully voiced story in three days, but I loved it!

r8teful 2023-10-08 13:17

SO innovative and fun to play! great jobb, would love to see a full version of this with more mind stretching puzzles!!

notnasiul 2023-10-08 13:23

So intriguing! It's a bit of trial and error at first, but then you get used to your powers :D

2023-10-08 18:36

Such a great entry! Probably my favorite so far! The gameplay was great, graphics/art solid; I can't believe nobody brought up the plot! Incredible all the way through. I laughed, I cried, I was shocked by the twists and turns :)

Great job!

2023-10-09 18:14

Fantastic game with a very unique idea. I'd definitely like to play a longer version of this. You also did a great job on the audio and voice acting!

hagamosvideojuegos 2023-10-09 21:37

Wow! it's like to play a PSX really good game! With more mechanics and story (out of jam of course) can be a really good game what I want to play.

Well done! Take a candy! :candy:

rafael-garcez 2023-10-10 14:37

the stretch mechanic is awesome. So much detail on this project! Well done!

johnnysix 2023-10-10 20:07

Great job, really loved the puzzles, even if they got the better of me in the end :anguished:

I failed here, seemed I was 1cm short on my jumps and gave up after 20th death

Screenshot 2023-10-10 210511.png

2023-10-10 21:33

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone! Spread the word if you enjoy our game! Maybe we WILL make a longer version

@johnnysix sorry some of the jumps are tricky! The streamer video in comments above at 12:53 will show you how to do it! ("remember to stretch, chief!")

@aweskybear good question about the resolution. We did it entirely to give it "a look", which we liked! But some players have had issues with it, so it should definitely be optional in future versions.

chybby 2023-10-11 07:55

I loved how simple but fun the stretch mechanic was. Really liked the hidden messages puzzle. Also really liked the voice acting.

sbeif 2023-10-11 10:20

Ok this was amazing. Brilliant concept, perfect execution, very funny dialogues with great voice acting and an unexpected twist. I loved every second of it. Oh and the squashed message was a brilliant idea, it made me feel very clever :) The only thing I think could be done a bit better is the graphics, not because it could be done better, but because it could be done differently. The chosen art style is very well made, but imho in a game where you stretch everything, perhaps a higher resolution (but still low poly) flat color style might work better (I don't know if I explained it well, something that scales well to achieve something closer to vectorial rather than raster graphics). The aliasing here is a bit aggressive and the texture stretch doesn't always look great. Everyhting else is top notch. This is definitely one of, if not the best game I tried in this jam. I'd love to play an extended version of this, please keep working on it.

kankje 2023-10-11 11:59

Wow, that was insanely good! Super innovative and fits the theme well. Also very funny! I guess the only negative thing to say would be that the graphics could have been better but I think they fit the game very well regardless. Amazing job! 🤩💯

koboldskeep 2023-10-11 13:20

Love the creative game mechanics and puzzles you've got here. The "plot" was fun too.

2023-10-11 15:08

I had a blast playing your game! Awesome idea, great puzzles and a fun story. This is one of the best entries I've seen so far! Truly amazing!

jaaskeh 2023-10-11 22:06

What a banger, best game I've played so far! The mechanic was unique and fit the theme great. Art, sounds and the plot all worked together nicely. Great job!

knexator 2023-10-12 15:36

GOTY

atlasflame 2023-10-14 03:57

Wonderful art and impeccable plot. "We could of been something" absolutely sent me. I did have some difficulty dealing with that double agent. I believe I understood what I had to do, but it was only through random trial and error, that I actually completed it.

xett 2023-10-14 21:32

Love the starfox style of this game, and the voice acting is chef's kiss! Great job!

2023-10-21 20:15

Congrats for making game so good, it beat guy with 20 fake accounts!

2023-10-21 23:40

Holy crap this was absolutely fantastic, I loved the gameplay, and the story, It was so engaging, If you guys end up making a full game I would love to help you voice act another character. It would be so fun to work with y'all.

lincolnsalles 2023-10-22 03:40

I was impressed, I saw this game at the jam but somehow I didn't think it was what it is and ended up not testing it. I think these incredible things really emerge during jams, people end up reinventing themselves, this is so innovative, it's enough to impress anyone. Imagine this with the updated graphics and impressive ambient sound. It really deserves the place it is.

panda-king-976 2023-10-22 08:43

Well done on winning, you've definitely earned the description "portal like" and it would be great to see it developed further with more types of puzzles!

nbumgardner 2023-10-25 01:11

Amazing job! I almost got queezy from the stretches, but that seems like a minor issue compared to how the game has charm and puzzles to enjoy!

fredrik-andersson 2024-04-17 07:59

This game was absolutely amazing, you should be really proud of what you created! I took a lot of inspiration from it for the latest Ludum Dare. I love how the theme is just oozing from all over the game - the gameplay, the lore & the puns. Claustrophobia vs Agoraphobia, just brilliant! Also, the subtle cues as to how your player character look!
