LD54 — Limited Space

LIGHTDANCER by xk_the_name 2023-10-04T03:35:02Z

Really solid entry, especially for only 48 hours! The dodging and single-arrow combat felt very fluid. Reminded me of classic souls-like gameplay, but with the fresh twist of the limited space the light gives you. You even managed to pull off a very straight forward tutorial too. Nicely done!

Start Wreck: The Finite Frontier by LandoSystems 2023-10-03T06:50:28Z

I really enjoyed this! The core gameplay is fun enough to get you all the way to the end. The little stories on each waypoint also makes discovering them a treat. The physics were fun to mess around with as well, I like how you applied limited space to not only the story but also the cramped play space.

The Final Years of Atlantis by kleinzach 2023-10-04T03:08:37Z

Really neat concept! I like the chill music alongside the simple gameplay. Letting us look around the final result was a nice touch too.

Pitch, Please! by Kyle Farwell 2023-10-11T22:27:48Z

Really unique idea! Not necessarily the most fun gameplay so to speak, but definitely fun to mess around with and using AI to generate a response is a creative use of the tech at least. It's a neat take on the theme too, I wouldn't have thought about having a limited amount of space for your speech so great job on that too.

Space Freight Ltd. by Chartle 2023-10-05T00:37:21Z

Love it! I'm a sucker for space truckers and you nailed the vibe perfectly. I love that you gave the planets a trucker radio-esque sound. Overall very solid and fun little game.

Lenticular Isle by jean-phenix 2023-10-05T00:44:42Z

Couldn't figure out what I was doing, it seemed like no matter how many times I restarted the level I ended up in an unwinnable map where I couldn't reach the enemy. Not sure if I'm unlucky or if I just didn't know what I was doing. I like the art though, it's quite eye catching.

Packing by homeworld 2023-10-04T03:27:14Z

Neat! I like the mood you established and the graphics felt very retro in a good way. I struggled a bit with the controls on the html version as it seemed like there was a constant input going. My character would slowly spin even if I kept the mouse in one spot. This made it pretty tricky to try and load the truck at the same time. Otherwise, great game and a very solid entry!

Skyland by acid 2023-10-05T00:25:12Z

Neat! Interesting take on minesweeper/Sudoku. The music was a nice backdrop to it as well.

Station 6 by nardandas 2023-10-03T06:34:22Z

Great combination of colors and music. The levels were a bit tricky with how dark they were to start, so it makes figuring out what to do next trickier. Perhaps a tutorial level with the lights on (maybe emergency lighting or something like that) would help to make it clear that the lines are ladders. Otherwise, the gameplay of climbing them and clambering up ledges was very fun.

Death Robot Of Doom by Anaconda Games 2023-10-05T23:14:01Z

Interesting! The inventory management is a fun little addition and it reminded me a lot of risk of rain, in a good way. The guns are a little wonky, it felt like when I fired the gun, the shot would appear in a very weird spot even before I got the AK. But otherwise solid game overall!

Guaxinim's Antiques, Rarities & Knick-knacks by ThomasTournoys 2023-10-03T02:48:34Z

Neat! I love the artwork, really chill mood it sets. I wasn't sure what the value of each item is so it is hard to decide what you should keep and what you should toss, but otherwise it was fun trying to position everything to maximize space.

Overbooked by Shredmer 2023-10-03T06:24:56Z

Funny idea, couple of good laughs from the dialogue. I was really hoping there was going to be a visual to go with ejecting passengers and you did not disappoint! Not much challenge to the gameplay as I was just picking random numbers but still had fun with it.

Parking Garage Rally by walaber 2023-10-04T03:42:08Z

Fun little retro racer, reminded me a bit of beetle battle for the N64. Interesting take on the theme too, going with a crowded parking garage instead of a typical track. I did have a small issue where the controls felt wonky to me. I noticed that on one occasion, after backing up and then starting forward my turning was still reversed for a second or two longer. It made it very easy for me to get into a crash-stravaganza where I would keep hitting things and getting stuck for a longer time than I would otherwise. Still, solid entry and loved the vibes!

Hardpoint by kankje 2023-10-05T23:06:56Z

Really solid game, especially for the timeframe. I ended up playing this for a lot longer than I intended. The player mech looked awesome too, and dynamically changing based on your loadout was a nice touch. Very well done!

ADEPTH by MarkElliott 2023-10-04T23:57:59Z

Really great mood and aesthetic! I love how the retro texture style makes things look rustier, which is very fitting I feel. My only complaints would be that the sensitivity is quite high, I found myself spinning 180 far more often then I expected. The jump also feels a bit floaty but that really is a non-issue in the game. Overall, very solid horror game.

Questris by commanderzzx 2023-10-05T00:30:26Z

Interesting idea, I love the artwork with it. I found it pretty difficult overall but still strangely addicting at times. It did crash on me eventually though. I had a pretty hefty negative turn in, I think it was -5 to an existing pool of 1 gold that did it.

BACK TO REALITY by koboldskeep 2023-10-05T01:51:43Z

I was not expecting Pikmin when I saw this game, but boy was that a pleasant surprise. The fast paced, rogue-like nature of the game is really well done too. The concept was pretty humorous too.

Stretchmancer by Choo 2023-10-05T00:15:41Z

I am always impressed by what people are able to make in such a short time, and this game is certainly one of them. I played through the whole game because it was oddly compelling. It captured a lot of the gameplay feel that portal had, but with an overall setting feel similar to Star Fox. Great combination and I think you could really have a lot to go on here if you wanted to make something larger out of it.

Bimbi's Cosmo Party by Frib 2023-10-04T03:17:25Z

Interesting take, going with a a multiplayer game show style. The music helped sell the mood as well. The games seemed fairly simple but good for the short time limit.

RIDE OF THE LIVING DEAD! by deadjolly 2023-10-05T02:03:59Z

Your inventory/group appearing in your car was a really nice touch. Fairly simple systems but that made for a solid game that captures the right mix of oregon trail and zombie survival. Nicely done!

Packed to the Gills by npckc 2023-10-05T00:03:22Z

I absolutely loved this! The whole aesthetic was fantastic. Both the music and art complement each other very well. It's oddly addicting too, making it a timed challenge was a great decision. Easily one of my favorite games I've played so far, nicely done!

Jambulance by NuiN 2023-10-05T00:40:17Z

It felt a bit too difficult to me but I still had a ton of fun with it. Very unique and fun take on the theme, nicely done!

It Gazes Back by Sylvic 2023-10-05T00:52:51Z

Congratulations on your first solo game! It's a neat take on the theme, applying it to a visual novel like that. Overall you've got good atmosphere here and a good cosmic horror angle.

HALLOS by Chailotl 2023-10-05T01:56:19Z

Neat! I like the graphics, both retro but also fairly detailed. The biggest recommendation I would have is to add more feedback to the player's shots. For awhile, I thought my shots weren't connecting because they would disappear. So I thought it was buggy but then I realize it was because the enemies had health. Even something as simple as having the enemies flash would go a long way with that. But otherwise, really competent space shooter and it hit the right vibes!

Jurassic escape by DSFAN 2023-10-13T23:51:37Z

I see pictures of Raptors and I must play. Personal bias aside, really nice job for your first game ever! I like the slowly increasing difficulty, it starts out feeling very easy but quickly becomes a good solid challenge. The gameplay is very simple but not a bad thing given the short timeframe and the arcade-y fun. Nicely done and congratulations!

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-03T06:38:11Z

Thanks for the feedback! The UI definitely can use some work, we wanted to make it so disabled systems would look different but we didn't end up having enough time to get that figured out.

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-05T02:16:03Z

@draekdude Thanks! Definitely needed to do more to make enabled systems clearer. We probably should have started with horizontal/vertical movement and shooting enabled, rather than just the movement systems. There are actually invisible walls so that's likely what you ran into. Rather than a wide map, it's a relatively confined space that you need to go from either end of. I wanted to put some sort of "signal weak" message when you reached an invisible barrier but I ran out of time. I probably should have made sure to include that from the start though.

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-05T22:39:59Z

@steamhat thanks! We probably made the level a bit too big, that's certainly fair. We kept nerfing things to try and make the game a little more forgiving but I think we probably could have gone a bit farther without making it too easy too.

Sorry about the too much blood! Quite ironically, two of us are pretty queasy with the sight of blood and we probably made it a little too close to realistic at times haha

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-06T22:44:30Z

@kizilejderha Honestly, I didn't think about using the blood as a boost, that's definitely an interesting way to get around! I definitely think the difficulty is a bit too high, we probably should have had a little more health and then narrowed the play space further than that. Thanks for playing!

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-11T22:29:45Z

@cody-raethke Thanks for playing! I definitely agree that the level design fell a bit flat, we wanted to make one of the levels a lot more confined and in a heart-shaped series of rooms which probably would have conveyed the idea a lot better. Unfortunately we just ended up running out of time on that.

Making a couple of puzzle levels or sections could be a great idea for shaking up the gameplay too, that's a great idea!

Sick! Virus Busters by Raptorspank 2023-10-16T01:34:47Z

@damp-squib Thanks for playing! I definitely agree on it needs some UI upgrades. That's a good idea for helping players realize there are multiple directions to go. I think it may have been better to have the first level be a stationary level and then used the bigger level layouts for the later levels too.

The Shroud by Etienne Robert 2023-10-05T22:37:47Z

Nicely done! I like the way that the play area is tied to killing enemies and using your c ability. Fairly brutal on the difficulty but I think that may have been what you were going for. Overall, solid game with good mood setting.

Space Ltd. by HangoverGames 2023-10-03T06:55:47Z

Neat! I struggled with the controls a bit too but it's definitely a fun game to mess around in. The music is a bit harsh at times but it fits the mood you were going for well.
