LD52 — Harvest

Raise the Dead for Fun and Profit by ben_burnes 2023-01-27T19:57:02Z

Cool to see you in the jam, @ben-burnes! We bought some of your loops for another one of our [jam games](https://gamejolt.com/games/starlightswarm/638291) a while back. I definitely 'dig' the music in this one. The post-jam version adds some nice flourishes as well, both SFX and gameplay-wise. More difficult too, still working on beating hard mode! Nice entry!

Grow Golf by torcado 2023-01-09T23:47:34Z

Well thought-out concept! The mechanics feel really fresh

Homunculus by Iluvatar 2023-01-13T04:46:41Z

Really nice art and music in this, I forgot it was a jam game for a moment. At times though, it was a little hard to click on some things (the lever hitbox, notably).

I thought the chemistry puzzle would have the shape of the flask be part of the solution, but it still did a good job of drawing me into the scene. While it may have just been a limitation due to the time constraint of the jam, it reminded me of how Powerhoof uses "non-puzzles" in their point-n-clicks (certainly beats old-school nigh-impossible to solve puzzles!):

Monkey Oolong Harvest Bop by PeachTreeOath 2023-01-14T04:40:40Z

This feels really well scoped for a jam game. Easy to understand, fun concept and gameplay, nice music, art, and animation. Well done! Made it to 53 leaves :)

Harvest Puzzle Box by boldbigflank 2023-01-10T02:33:12Z

That number code took me a while to solve. Pretty clever solution for it though!

Five Finger Copper Shopper by Don Fouts 2023-01-10T03:31:33Z

This looks like the start of a good gameplay loop once you start to realize where the best sources of copper are. While I was playing though, the character controls made me feel a bit dizzy (slidey movement and it was constantly rotating to the right) so I had to stop playing. Creative take on the theme!

Five Finger Copper Shopper by Don Fouts 2023-01-13T04:00:44Z

Just wanted to come back and note that the rotating bug I ran into was only in Firefox non-Fullscreen mode. I've since found the same thing in several other games, so either it's a Firefox thing or even an issue with my setup! Played this again and had a better time once that was solved. Even found the secret ending

Travelling Tea Maker by detectiveLosos 2023-01-12T22:35:50Z

Well, I made everyone I came across furious and caused a bride to murder her groom on their wedding night. I never knew the life of a tea maker was so fraught with peril! That bandit didn't get to steal anything though, so the joke's on him.

While certainly unexpected, the story was entertaining and the art was nice. Great entry

Junkship by YogurtTheHorse 2023-01-10T04:54:18Z

I have to agree, this has Very Nice Shaders.

Little Eden by gerudoking 2023-01-09T22:12:35Z

Nice job on the art and the music! That's a pretty interesting mix of gameplay mechanics. Once I understood how to use the special guns, they were pretty fun to use. Our entry has a "dragon gun" too

Subnautilus by Guldfisk 2023-01-10T03:54:14Z

I tried to get further into the game, but after dying or restarting, it takes a while to get back to the gameplay. (~50 clicks to skip dialogue) Still, nice job on the writing, art, and gameplay!

Drake's Fortune by chompdev 2023-01-10T05:08:02Z

@mtpw Haha, love this. We should have had you write our game description!

@nikkunakku Thank you! We were pretty happy with how the physics turned out, even though we had to remove some code that made the tower crumbling physics even more realistic for performance reasons

Barvest: The Iconic Bug Harvest of 2005 by picross 2023-01-11T06:10:11Z

This was pretty ambitious for a jam game, and you guys pulled it off wonderfully! The interconnected level design worked really well, and made it easy to look for coins. Catching enemies with the web was a creative mechanic that could definitely be expanded on in a larger project.

I see I'm not the only one who stumbled upon a certain strategy for traversing!

Harvest Stone by Kongo 2023-01-10T00:15:31Z

A complex, thought-provoking narrative about the plight of the working man. High quality voice acting. Twist ending definitely caught me by surprise.

Buzzy Business by amarokczukay 2023-01-12T20:07:32Z

Probably the most original take on the theme I've seen yet, haha. I'll be honest, this game made me angry at myself for giving those people itchy legs. On the other hand, I did eventually get 100% blood, so take that!

Haymaker by Bobbo 2023-01-11T04:41:25Z

This is really well done, but tough! The controls feel intuitive, though I wish I could rotate the camera completely around, as sometimes it was tricky to tell if a block could slot in from above or below. I got to almost the end of the 3rd section, before all of my previous questionable placements became too much for me to contend with.

Nice entry. This deserves way more ratings!

Combine Harv-racer by procrasteroid 2023-01-10T05:59:08Z

:checkered_flag: 1:54:35 babyyyy! I had to check if the music was original because it's that good! Super fun racing game too. The "mowing" effect is so satisfying.

I got so into the music that when I crossed the finish line, I took the piece of wheat out of my mouth, jumped up in the air in my denim overalls, clicked my muck boots together and hollered "YEEEHOOOOO!!!"

Dark Harvest by JakeJet 2023-01-10T00:32:31Z

Very nice lighting! Couldn't find any monsters or exits, but the mood and overall feel of the game was well done.

Powered Plants by RobotChimp 2023-01-09T23:22:25Z

Very stylish, in art and presentation! Fun gameplay loop and the plant upgrades are nicely done. Wish I could aim faster without upgrades (and also with the mouse) given the difficulty level, but maybe that would be too powerful? Great jam game overall

Slime Farm by pinapl 2023-01-12T21:26:24Z

This art is adorable! Cool game idea, although at first I was digging up my full size veggies thinking I was selling them, haha... woops. Very impressive for a 12 hour game!

LD54 — Limited Space

RatTrap by JCMonkey 2023-10-20T01:24:18Z

You did a great job on the mood of the game by tying together the lighting, art, sound, and mine carts "with a mind of their own." The gameplay was a bit too heavy on the repetitive side though. I wish there was a way to understand which key fits a particular door, rather than trying every one in the level, otherwise there's just lots of backtracking. Nothing that couldn't be fixed post-jam, though!

LIGHTDANCER by xk_the_name 2023-10-07T00:37:15Z

Whoa, I didn't notice until after playing that this was a compo game and was quite surprised! There's a lot of polish, the gameplay feels great, solid mechanics, even a boss fight!

Like some others, by the end of the game I totally forgot you could roll, haha. I guess that one's on me! I just got more practice with rapid-fire bow shots :)

Nice entry!

SPACE GARDEN by Ntimi 2023-10-03T23:35:03Z

Fun game! I like that the different plants react with each other when placed. That leads to some fun experimentation. Though perhaps it could be helpful to add notes after you discover how things react for future reference?

Riveting by N4tticus 2023-10-19T05:58:33Z

This had a surprising amount of customizability and functionality for a compo entry! The different levels did a good job of keeping the player on their toes and coming up with new designs.

Some QoL features would be nice, but I'm sure would have been at the cost of a lot of the more critical features you had included, so you did a good job of scoping and planning, given the time constraints.

Nicely done!

Spellbook by Paul Nadan 2023-10-18T00:12:45Z

Got to 5900 points... and totally didn't realize I could stack words until coming back to leave a comment (woops!). It's a cool idea for a mechanic though and something that could easily be expanded on in a post-jam project, such as re-casting or combining the effects of the overlapped spells.

Overall, really nicely put together for a compo entry!

Compress(space) by Fahim Faysal 2023-10-06T21:14:19Z

Very creative idea, and a good match for the theme! Great game for 48 hours. I saw you were considering adding more after the jam. That would be awesome to see!

Introvertigo by Scott Steffes 2023-10-19T21:08:50Z

Man, I got more sweaty playing this than most horror or action games! The art, camera work, and music all did a great job of supporting the focus of the game, too. Great entry, guys!

Dwarf Looter by Matthieu Riboulot 2023-10-06T21:40:06Z

You guys have a great gameplay loop here! I got too big for my britches (literally, they were full of loot) and was swiftly destroyed by a demon lady after I ventured too far, but I was ready to start up another run afterwards!

Nice work. If only I had a Scroll of Town Portal ;)

Rolling Over It by DanyVk 2023-10-03T03:51:49Z

Very irritating, but keeps you coming back for one more run. Nicely done! I decided to stop after the first level to preserve my sanity :)

For the design, did you consider making the dice revert back to 6 after landing? I found myself using lower power vertical hits to re-roll a 6 quite often

V-SHRINK by Zliebowitz 2023-10-06T20:07:53Z

Cool take on the theme! The game was quite hard until I realized how effective the super kick is at clearing the screen. Even then, still pretty tough :)

Lots of cool touches too, like the "kick to restart". And the music is excellent! The best I've heard in this jam so far! Definitely feeling some vibes of Undertale and Monolith in there

Clockwork Express by mira 2023-10-03T05:12:14Z

A fellow 'Clockwork' game! (Ours is Clockwork Tower) :)

The art in this is really nice. Lots of detail in the different cargo rooms you can add. Nicely done.

However, I couldn't figure out level 3 after several tries. But then again, I am very bad at organization-type games!

HOLY by mmatt_ugh 2023-10-03T23:39:06Z

It took me a bit to get a hang of the mechanics, but it was fun once I figured out how to gather more XP. The balance of letting darkness grow vs choosing when to reap it is a great gameplay design!

RootKing by CyclonicHeart51 2023-10-06T23:43:59Z

This was nicely executed. The art looked good and suited the puzzle nature of the game quite well. Cool entry :)

Minimus Brainius by hulien22 2023-10-03T22:47:32Z

Birthdays is fun since people and holidays not bad.

Took me a few runs, but eventually got past the first boss fight thanks to the oracle. Great execution for a jam. The music and art were nicely done. I never managed to get a score above 6 though. Back to the word forge with me!

Corridor Duels by nyxkn 2023-10-20T03:13:22Z

Fun! This is a great start for some swordplay mechanics that could easily be built upon. I could see more enemy types, and nuances to how much damage your sword does, or whether your shield performs a stun depending on how recent the key was pressed for instance. The music was good and the art really appealing, too. Great compo game!

A Park Car by Edearth 2023-10-03T23:36:13Z

I could tell this was going to be fun as soon as it started up. And it was! Nice job :)

Rough Housing by AGK 2023-10-20T00:41:50Z

Man, that was some jazzy music! Made it easy to keep playing. The art was also quite nice, and the gameplay was engaging too. I like that the city upgrades itself as happiness increases, and even feeds back into the point structure. This seems like it would be a fun concept to *build* on further ;)

CASHBLAZER by Jim jagers 2023-10-19T06:29:47Z

Got taken out by the third phase of the boss, which is quite challenging (and spooky)! I liked the idea of buying different zones to unlock new planets. In a longer jam, you could add new weapons and enemies unique to each zone, but this was well done for a compo. Cool game

The King is Watching by Tvorojok 2023-10-06T22:06:46Z

Great game and really nicely balanced. I was engaged throughout my entire run! The economy felt quite robust for a jam game and choosing which buildings to pair up for the most efficiency was fun. Really attractive art style, too.

The Darkest Of Maze by BorderDestroyer 2023-10-04T00:56:56Z

Great atmosphere and tension building! The player momentum was unexpected, but fun after getting used to it.

The 'E' was truly terrifying! E E E E E E E E :O

Eclipse by Zeit 2023-10-06T20:20:54Z

There are some cool ideas in this one. I liked the gem puzzle and how you could hide in cracks in the wall. Nice work!

Stretchmancer by Choo 2023-10-03T05:49:43Z

This is incredibly creative! 10/5 Innovation. I've never seen anything like this gameplay before. Great puzzles, clever mechanic, solid writing for a jam game. "Rigged with High-Expansives" took me a second to get :)

The only issue I ran into is that it gave me a bit of a headache playing it! I think it was something about the blurry graphics, it felt like my eyes were always trying to re-focus.

Overall, amazing entry! Well done!

Carrotiles by ValentinWB 2023-10-06T05:04:21Z

This was great for a 36 hour entry! I liked the juicy animation effects when you reach the goal.

Voyd by amarokczukay 2023-10-03T23:55:37Z

I love the simplicity and effectiveness of the idea. Great compo entry!

Unlimited Space Shawarma by SID37 2023-10-07T05:58:55Z

This has a lot of detail and love put into it. You guys made a really cool experience here!

The notes on the wall were a great way to surface information to the player. The radio dial to adjust the music was a cool touch, too. Nice job

Snowlord by minjutin 2023-10-20T01:08:52Z

It took me a bit to understand the rules, but mostly got it after playing the tutorial a couple times. The only thing I'm still not sure about is whether it's a chance based thing or if you can actually determine exactly where an error will occur like in minesweeper. It seemed like since a single square could have multiple snow left, it was still a bit of a guessing game. Admittedly, I ended up just clicking the higher count green areas, which were usually safe :)

I like that you tried experimenting with the gameplay though. Game jams are great for trying new ideas, after all!

I think my favorite part was the battle at the end when you realize what you're building all those forts for, haha.

fell the tower!!! by honestspoof 2023-10-19T19:44:52Z

I couldn't get past the level after you discover the twist, but this is a cool idea! Wish I could have made it further to see what's at the end!

Escape the Slime Lab by Redoxeide 2023-10-04T00:18:38Z

Interesting game mechanic. Level 1 did a great job of explaining how to use the platforms for wall jumps. I couldn't figure out Level 4 though, maybe an extra tutorial level before it could help smooth out the difficulty?

I also felt like I had to be pretty fast with my mouse clicks to build some platforms. Perhaps when you click, the platform could "lock in" an intermediate ghost-like stage, and once the player jumps inside, it becomes fully solid?

Overall a nice game. The art looks really nice and is what drew me in to the game!

Magnetic Rescue by SevenOne 2023-10-19T06:14:27Z

Didn't realize the atoms open the portal until reading the comments, but made it to the portal with 100k+ points anyway! Really catchy music and the movement feels buttery smooth. It's a difficult choice of how long to hold out for the magnets, which makes the gameplay feel engaging I think. Maybe bonus points could be added if the player collects energy when they're already at full to encourage skillful playing and close calls?

Nice jam entry!

Lucas and the House of Lost Souls by BinayaS 2023-10-06T21:31:01Z

This does a great job of building up the mood and atmosphere throughout, which is impressive when the main character is a rectangle!

Some of the gameplay could be tightened up a bit in places, but this is a solid entry and one I really enjoyed.

Under Trykk by Fredspipa 2023-10-03T06:01:12Z

This does a great job of building mood and tension throughout the experience. I agree with others that the controls were a bit difficult to use, but not so much that I couldn't complete the game. I got the hang of them after a bit, and only crashed once before beating it.

I was surprised how quickly I got absorbed into the experience. Nice entry!

DEFRAG-MENTOR by lucydango 2023-10-07T01:53:31Z

Cool spin on tower defense. I like that you can move the windows around freely. I wish I could uninstall an antivirus to reclaim space, but that's just because the Windows Desktop theme worked so well!
