Getting over it vibes are very clear, i definetely did not ragequit after being close to the end). Very liked the innovative concept with the dice, this turns a platformer into a planning game with a twist. Not sure it fits the theme, but it is a great concept and great execution

It's nice to see a foddian game, but I am having trouble connecting it to the theme, cool idea though!
I like this game although it took me some time to figure out how to move the dice. Great game overall!

@wonkanese Thank's a lot! The difficulty curve is based on the map and also on getting familiar with the controls! I hope you enjoyed it.

@voidred I know, the main idea was to do something different with that die. But I thought this was more fun

@stronf dude, have you passed the three levels of the game??

Didn't manage to finish it. The difficulty is way too high for me. Overall I like the idea, from my perspective with some accessibility features it might be really unique game. Something like slow-mo and trajectory prediction.
Very irritating, but keeps you coming back for one more run. Nicely done! I decided to stop after the first level to preserve my sanity :)
For the design, did you consider making the dice revert back to 6 after landing? I found myself using lower power vertical hits to re-roll a 6 quite often

The game looks okay, and the music is fine. I no idea how the controls is suppose to be working, and I not even able to get on top of the first step. So yes it was difficult.

Interesting one-tap game, I would like to try the mobile version. I though the dice was rolling random at first, but it was just counting down from 6 to 1 (so you are limited in the space you can cover until it burns out). Good job with the level design, altough it was super hard to reach those small platforms, because the dice is locked when it touches the ground, and then just bounces off the platform.

This one was quite well made. Even though these types of games are not my cup of tea I almost managed to finish the first level š
I feel like a lot of the difficulty comes from not the actual physics puzzle, but the (intentionally?) obtuse controls. I feel like if there were a setting for swapping the force curve (the closer to the dice, the lower the force), it would make it a lot more enjoyable. Currently a single pixel difference in the mouse positioning makes a huge difference in trajectory, and it so it is very hard to change direction mid-flight.
Also, as others have mentioned, you can just revert to a 6 when you land. The player has the option of doing so with extremely small steps, and there is no disadvantage to doing so. The only place I see this making a difference is if the player lands on a 1 on a slanted platform. Maybe you could make it so that after a second or so the number goes back to 6?
I liked how colliding with a wall makes you unable to control the dice though. It led to some tense moments where I knew I was at the mercy of the physics engine. š

I am delighted that most of you enjoyed the game. Both @kinami and @mcbombadev agreed on the feedback recommending me to reset the counter when hitting the ground. It's a mechanic I had already implemented but I thought it made the game much easier. On the other hand I agree that a lot of times players try to re-roll by giving little hits... and I don't like that part of the gameplay. So I think you are right. I'm going look into that mechanic some more. Thank you!
@kinami , I'll also do a couple of tests by changing the direction of the force. Thanks for the feedback!
On the other hand, @jk5000 , I really encourage you to try it again. I know it's not an easy game to control but the difficulty in its controls is completely intentional. I've tried to focus on increasing the feeling of satisfaction as much as possible by gradually becoming better at the controls. Anyway, thanks for playing!
What a great work. I don't know if this can be played on mobile... in that case I might become addicted to it :)

@jacinto-mba Well, the truth is that I was able to play from my mobile through HTML5⦠I liked it so much that Iām going to port it to Android and IOS these days! Iām completely addicted hahaha
Thanks for playing dude!

My god these kind of games make me feel so bad at videogames haha, I struggle a lot and could not finish the first level (really stuck at the moment where there is a thin platform just above you), but I'm gonna send it to some friends who are better than myself at this stuff ! Anyway even with struggling i can tell the game is quite cool and tryharders will love it ! well done
Thanks @danyvk, that's good to know! I haven't given it a try yet, but will do later. I'm just afraid of staying engaged for hours :D:D

I love so much its minimalism and creative mechanics!
I have to agree with the feedback of the others, I really enjoyed this game too! I am normally not a fan of this kind of game, but I found it satisfying to transform back to a dice and have some stability again. Even though I also definitely abused the fact that you can almost always reset yourself to the dice state :D
Definitely great as a rage game like only up and getting over it, I would definitely enjoy playing more to keep exploring what the game has to offer.
With some polish and graphics it could turn into a proper game i'd play on stream. Congrats !
Veeeery good looking and feeling! Few things though: - it's a bit of a nerve breaker :D (yes, I noticed you say it's on purpose)... buuut why Not add an ability for a bit easier control? E.g. a time-slow-for-a-sec button? Or sth like this? For example / first thing that came to my mind - e.g. with one more mechanic you could make for even greater gameplay while allowing those who don't want it to still use the hardcore one But allow others to make use of some additional skill (for example) - initially I didn't understand how to move - at all - I though I had to click inside of the circle (fine) .. but it turns out you move via clicking only onto the dice - am I wrong? - a very small tutorial sentence somewhere would fix that : ))) (and you would get more players :P )
What a nice game! Although, I don't feel like it matches the theme, nonetheless the game itself is very interesting.
But I want to mention something:
a) The circle is hardly noticeable
b) It feels like we should move much more in the center of the circle for some reason
c) It would be very nice of you to render approximate trajectory as we move our mouse!
d) Have you thought of swapping controls? It seems more logical and intuitive for me to force to be more the bigger the distance from the cube and not otherwise.
Other than that, great job!

@aweskybear You are absolutely right, but I have always tried to be loyal to the core idea of the game: to make the player feel more comfortable with the controls gradually. I understand that the more anxious people (myself included) are going to quit the game before they can fully learn the controls. However, as long as a certain percentage of the players play the game as I have designed it, I'm satisfied.
Thank you very much for playing and for taking the time to write a comment, your feedback is very useful for me :)

@ilunailuna Regarding point D, many have already mentioned it to me. I think you are absolutely right. Thank you for bringing it up. Point C feels like giving too much help to the players, I want to keep the game casual but close to hardcore. Thanks for the feedback!
@danyvk I respect that! I respect you standing behind your decision for the game to be challenging to begin with. I will play more, and comment more, just need some focused time for that :D I am kind of eager to see what's next.
Thank you.

Nice idea. I really like the whole concept of it, the die turning into a sphere. It's really something new. Sadly I'm not the type of player for this kind of game since I lose my patience too quick, but overall this is a really nicely piece of software.
Good work! Once past the learning phase, it's a fun experience! I appreciate the way the levels were made, very thoughtful!
Seems like a classic rage game... I couldn't get over the third hill.
The idea of which way to implement the strikes is really up to how frustrating you want it to be. But rather than changing where to strike it I think it might be better to give some indication of how strong the strike is. Having a circle under the tool tip that gets bigger and smaller depending on how much force is applied might be enough to help players figure out the mechanics. I think it is less important where you strike than what kind of feedback you give the player to help them figure out the mechanics.
It's definitely Getting Over It but with a die instead of a man in a pot with a pickaxe.

@moonlightbomber Well, there is some more difference hahaha. The sense of satisfaction of getting to a place apparently unreachable is what I like the most about Getting Over It and I've tried to replicate it. The mechanics, levels and physics are completely different.
Thank you for playing :)
Really nice concept, frustrating but fair ! There were some minor glitches but I only noticed them because I was clicking over 1000 times :p So it was bound to happen now and then. Everything comes together nicely, and it was a real joy to play. Usually I don't have the patience to play games like this all the way through, but I actually enjoyed this. Well done and thank you for submitting !

There's a big slope in the first level that I just can't get through. No matter how I click I can't jump that high! Sounds like a fun idea, but can't figure it out, sorry :'(

@notnasiul If you keep hitting the die you will realise that the closer you hit it the harder it will go. You can also hit it in the air! I know the learning curve is slow but if you give it a chance you will find it satisfying! Thanks for playing, I encourage you to keep trying. I know it's not a game to spend 3 minutes playing.

Great mechanics and polish! Although I don't know if it really fits the theme, but still as a game on its own it's a very good entry
@danyvk Oooh, clicking mid-air did the trick. Still, getting the right direction is hellish :D I'm trying again. Maybe a time-slowdown when the cursor is within Dice's reach would make it easier to play! But then maybe that's not your idea... ;)

2023-10-13 14:53
@notnasiul Exactly, my idea is to make the game difficult so that the player feels that his achievements are more satisfying than in other easier games. Thank you for giving it another chance mate!

I totally get it. It's a "getting over it" type of game. It's very creative, switching between square and round platform jumping. In fact, circles aren't always so bad, sometimes they're more stable on flat ground. That's interesting.
@danyvk Maaan, I just got back to your game (as I had promised some time ago). It is addictive.. but *only* for the players who *get used to it* xD.
So, here it is:
rolling-over-it--Screenshot 2023-10-14 215412.jpg
You've got a bit of an up-vote from me this time. Because this time I FELT the fun!
So, a few more thoughts: 1) be **SURE** - some players will immediately quit the game due to several confusions occurring in the beginning :/ - one is the already-mentioned fact (that for some) it makes more sense to have the applied force-to-distance-from-center reversed
But I realized something more important: *until I did not realize that this is a shooter-precision game* I could not go anywhere! What do I mean??? **I realized I should not move my mouse too much!** But only adjust it .
**How to retain players: make a short 2-3 step tutorial** of them getting over a few platforms. **Explain** this thing about the precision in a clear way - then no one will be rage-quitting after 5 seconds of play. Logic is the following - if the game *starts too hard* (or is immediately seen as *impossible even for simple baby steps*, which may be misguided - it is unless player knows what I mentioned) the game will get immediately dismissed. You don't want this.
Note to myself too: simple / stupid tutorial for the basic stuff that we (experienced) players do by heart - that's what will save the day. ;)
NB: The game was actually pretty easy - ones you get the hang of it - 1) I never used full power - but medium, to do the precision landings 2) then if I had to jump over stuff, I used full power 3) I never moved my mouse too much (after positioning it for *shooting* when I have a *target platform* 4) I usually clicked with an interval of at least ~0.5s for the precision jumps / that's it

@aweskybear Wow, you are amazing. This feedback is fucking gold to me. Right now I'm just keeping up with the development of the game. I've tried several improvements, among them, every time the die drops it goes back to number 6 and it feels MUCH better. I agree that the game has a very hard first contact. Being a Jam I didn't have time to do a proper tutorial :( I know that many players don't reach the first minute of play and that's a problem. Also, the game feels great on mobile. I've tried it and it's even more addictive. I just want to say thank you very much for your feedback and as soon as I have a major update of the game I'll let you know!
PS: I beat it in 180 hits hehe.
@danyvk Glad that my thoughts are of service!! : )) Somehow I missed your last msg...
I really enjoy the feedback-ing part of LD. It is *super powerful* and a lot of ideas come straight "from the lab". Because this is a lab! One big lab : ))))
I get ideas, I see ideas, I share ideas. And enjoy when people do the same for my games (I did get some amazing feedback revealing a few serious problems with how my game *is* played, which I would forever been oblivious to xD .. if it wasn't for LD!). Trying to do the same for people!
GL, you have an amazing game with the potential to become even more amazing :p
PS: HAAaa - 180 hits looks insane XD
Man, this game is really hard, but also addicting at the same time. I like the general idea and mechanics, super creative and cool! And the sound effects are nice too, subtle but satisfying.
But I'd suggest a quick tutorial at the beginning to show off the core mechanics and teach players how to play the game. Because it did take me a while to figure out how to move the dice properly, and to understand what the numbers on the dice are represented for. But once I got a hang of it, it was really fun and engaging to be honest, good job!
I really like the transformation of the dice into a ball after the numbers ran out, it actually made the player plan the move first before executing or the ball would catch them off guard. But one thing that bothered me was the angular drag of the dice in its cube form, I think increasing it just a little bit would have been nice since it was able to "roll" down the slopes quite easily, and you have no idea how irritating I was when that happened, I just wished it would stop rolling and let me take control but it didn't and fell all the way down to the bottom of the level.
Overall, great entry with a really well implemented idea, definitely hits me in the innovation aspect! Though I'm not sure if it goes well with the current theme, but I highly appreciate the efforts and dedications you put into it, well done!

@constance Thank you very much for playing and for your comment. I'm really glad you liked it :)
Thanks to the feedback I receive from players like you I'm fixing a lot of issues in the game and adding a lot of improvements. I hope to upload an update soon on this page as a sign of gratefulness. Cheers!
Interesting mechanics. As you already warned, it is very difficult. When I got to the part with two high shelves on the right I saw that it wasn't for me lol. I don't like very difficult games at the very hard level for hardcore players. I didn't understand the relevance to the theme, but anyway it's a good idea for a jam game and for hardcore players it's good fun I think.
Aww, it looks and sounds so nice, it makes me *want* to play it, and I really tried, but it's just so difficult I couldn't even finish the first level after going at it for quite a while :( Wonder if it'd be easier on a touch screen with finer control. I see you opted out of the audio category so I'm guessing you didn't make the music but it's a good choice anyhow, as anything but relaxing would've really exacerbated the frustration, heh. Things seem nice and polished, just wish I was able to get further š
Very cool ! Fun !!
The mechanics are very cool ! Congratulations for all the work done
The minimalist style works very well!
An easy mode would be welcome, I will see the game on mobile a lot, it would work so well!
Well done again!
