Mates that's amazing! Funny adventure! Rly lovely! (Btw check our game about vacuum plz??)
Love the art style and the mood! Found the controls little challenging, but it didn't stop me reaching the lighthouse. Well done!
--- Edit: Also loved the dialog!
The note regarding the controls, I felt like I wanted to turn the camera to better see obstactles - The lack of this made it feel a little disorientingfor me
Abslutely amazing! Love your style.
@smitner Thanks for feedback! Can you share what was challenging in the controls? Thanks!
Hi! I've played your game and its my thoughts about experience:
The music in game is so cool, but after a while it starts to bother. It seems to me that it could be turned off sometimes or diluted with some other
Graphics is the best part of the game. I like it and did not find any misuses.
The game is funny and kind, i like this)
The game looks and is played cool, but a little boring. But in the end I liked it and the time spent on the game was worth it
@limpch Great feedback! We overscoped a bit and had to cut some things which would defer the boring part :(
Aaaaah the art and the lil animations are so cute! I really loved the movement of the boat as well, I prob spent a little too much time just drifting around obstacles in it lol.
@mcmuniz thank you! @alpie did an amazing job on the procedural animations and the boat controls! ♥
realy nice mood !!
I wish the dialogues were a little shorter. Not the text itself, but the need to click through many-many short lines. But the art, atmosphere and humor make up for it! It's hard to believe that you completed such a project in two or three days! Great job!
@owc agreed, first time writing for a video game, so lots of things learned in just three days 😅 I would have done everything differently now! Thank you for the kind words!
The boat controls are super nice and fluid (would be greatly enhanced with just the subtlest sfx), and I love the atmosphere of the game. Only issue I had was with getting lost, but any sort of map would definitely ruin the feeling of the game.
Amazing work in such a short time. Proud of you.
@teamldm glad you liked it, and thank you for the feedback! I think what can be done better in regard of getting lost, is using level design techniques to subtly push player to places we wanted them to visit and away from places they would get lost, and bring the islands a littttle bit closer! Definitely want to improve things and iterate on the entry a bit further after a short rest :P
Stunning visually, I love the black and white as well as the music. It sometimes the framerate dropped making me a bit dizzy, but the overall experience was nice.
@gabexiii we did our best to optimize without compromising the looks, sorry about the experience, but glad you enjoyed it!
A very sweet and funny game. Art style was perfect!
@derek-glennon thank you, glad you liked it! ♥♥♥
I am always so amazed something can look so good and I use only 2 “colors”. The music fits the gameplay . I really liked the experience you created.
so gorgeous omfg
cool unusual art. Funny animations of the characters))))
This is a great game overall. I really like the art and mechanics are smooth and easy to use. I would put more text together as so players can get to the main part of the convo faster, otherwise amazing job.
Really unique mood, I love it! This game has so many features packed ;)
The music feels a bit repetitive at some point since you spend a lot of time in that limited space
The camera damping made me a bit dizzy at some point unfortunately so I couldn't finish
I can say that only because of contrast: the polished feel of the game highlights any inconvenience
Overall, I really enjoyed the experience, cool game!
I loveddddd the aesthetic of this one, can you tell me about the shader you are using? Definitely inspiring me to make a 3D that is similar to this, saving this one as inspo. Thank you! Great job
Love the design of this game and it cracked me up in the cutscenes when the characters would just break their spine looking up that was hilarious, the art style of the characters was really nicely made! Good job
Ну это топ
Sooo... I have finished the game and here's my honest review and feedback.
- Falling from the plane story would have been much funnier, if not spoiled in the entry description - What should be upper case letters are upper case in one lines, and lower case in the others – makes it a bit difficult to read - Nice meta-humour with references to LOST, WD-40, Starfield with Frontier (?), Animerica - Loved the charisma check part! Great reference to BG3(?)! - Overall subtle and pleasant humour! - Last cutscene is amazing!
- Boat feels like boat in animations and physics department, cool! - Lack of camera rotation controls is really noticeable. Could have been even isometric without rotation, especially given that it becomes isometric (or very close to isometric) during dialogs - There are different character models, wow! - Some dialog options disappear when talked, some stay, IDK if it’s intentional. Options with what to do next are okey to stay, narrative options questionable - Full game would benefit from UI directions for discovered islands or a map - Struggled too much to figure out where to use the fishing rod and/or find Barry. Even started second play through thinking there is a bug that doesn’t allow me to fish on the tree island
- Move in the mouse direction would have been a nice option - Boaty controls a bit painful, A/D for direction instead of rotation would help a lot. Boat still can rotate according to it’s slow to response physics - Fog as a world border would have been better
- Great visual style! - Hide object (or make it semi-transparent) if it’s between camera and player would have been nice - Some sprites give 3D vibes and feel in place (ex: grass) at a specific camera angles, some are very 2D (ex: trees, jars on the ground on the lighthouse island). Seems to do with sprites angle being not ideal for the angle of camera, and the fact that camera is perspective and changes Y-rotation while sprites stay static - Interesting solution for the buildings to place multiple sprites there, can use an upgrade for the full game though
- Great background music choice! - Great subtle sound effects overall! - Lack of boat sound effects was definitely noticeable :(
- Coin between the trees (on the Windell island) you can’t get to - Sprites popped in a couple of times when approaching starting island from it’s West - Waves showing up on the tree island's ground - Characters fallback to “have you find [that thing I asked you for] yet?” after their ark completed
---
cute game, liked the style and the vibe - little repetitive going between the islands after a while, but I really loved the games charm.
@antarian thanks for such comprehensive review!
I would say 30% of negative things are related to the last-hour optimizations (we had to rotate camera a bit more downwards, otherwise it would have just too much performance cost on WebGL on Macbooks, and make details toggled on islands by distance)
Other 30% is overscoping (so many characters with dialogues which you can start in any order, it was a lot of time to test how they work with each other, sounds and music came in literally 2 hours before we had to publish :D)
We are definetely thinking about expanding the game and improving player UX. Your comment goes on top of the feedback we collected!
Great entry with good visuals and audio. Writing was enjoyable and I think this was a great game overall. I do think making the islands closer together or making the boat faster would have made this better.
I adored the art style and animations that went with it - nice atmosphere and serene scenes!
Also, I wouldn't call it a tiny adventure :D most games I played are way shorter in content than this one!
@bumble well, hey, it's tiny when you compare it to Baldur's Gate 3 😂😂😂
I loved the graphics and the subtle humor. I wasn't a fan of the music. It was bland, and kind of sad and just did not make me want to keep playing, especially when lost out in the ocean with no idea where I was supposed to go. The references were fun like boaty, and the BG3 persuasion check. I am happy you added the E to the dock to reset boaty so I could easily get to him. The first island was easy to find since you are told to go north, but after that I wasn't sure where to go. I found the fish in the whirlpool on accident, and I wasn't even sure if there were more islands around. I road around in the water for a while but never saw anything. Some sort of indication of another island, or where I was supposed to go would definitely be in order.
@lelulagames I agree, wish we could do better game design (add signs pointing in the direction of islands) and then something else to point in direction of stuff! Thanks for the feedback!
What a beautiful experience! The art style and presentation is astonishing. Easily one of the best visually compelling game I've ever seen in ludum dare. The dialogues are really charming and well done. Boat riding is very satisfying. Navigating without any sort of map and such a small vision range felt bit like a chore. I didn't end up finishing the game because it seemed like it was going on for a long time and it felt like it was mostly just going to be walking around. Regardless, absolutely excellent quality for a LD submission. Gameplay might have been a bit more engaging.
Hey, awesome game here!
I didn't finish it because of time management, and for a jam entry it's a pretty long game, but I loved any single aspect of it. It's charming, the graphics are super cute, the dialog pretty good too. Nice one for sure!
Sorry everyone for making this too long 😅
I'm a sucker for cute animal characters so I really like the style of this game. The dialogue is funny and cheeky, the graphics are wonderful, and the music fits the atmosphere perfectly. The NPCs are super cute and I like how each of them has their own personality. The humor in this game is also top notch, especially the encounter with the fish.
I'm not sure how the game fits the theme, on the contrary I thought the map was way too big. I spent a majority of the game just boating around and trying to find the islands. A map of some sort in the UI would have really helped. Also I think the game could use less fetch quests, a lot of it was just going back and forth from places I've already been to and having to travel the giant map all over again.
I did manage to beat the game and overall I really enjoyed it. Great work!
Wow, very cool style! Love the way this looks and plays. Amazing entry, nice work!!
An interesting title with unique visuals, in 3D no less. A solid entry. Great job!
Amazing visuals! Also the dialogue is hilarious. Insane that you created this in 3 days, good job
Added a map to the post of the jam and a walkthrough for those that got stuck!
https://youtu.be/aMEF98GBWjc
Really nice game overall, love the graphics and the fun dialogue (dialogue based games unite :D)
Unfortunately I was not able to find the lighthouse initially without the map here... Could you maybe add a dialogue option to get a hint about where it is in-game?
Also the camera "swinging" a bit when you change your walking direction is a bit dizzying, I'd prefer to manually control it rather.
Really lovely little game! Visual style is great, really nice atmosphere, enjoyed the dialog with their little animations and the "voice acting" haha. I really appreciate these style of little adventures. My main criticisms would really just be small tweaks that could have been made that would make this game a lot easier to enjoy. I felt like the islands were a little too far apart, and some way of navigating in game would be nice. I would have given up if the map wasn't on the itchio page. I think just having a key bring up that exact picture of the map would have made a huge difference. Sprinting wouldn't have gone amiss either. I think my other feedback could most likely be chalked up to a lack of time really. Like some more sound effects would make everything feel a lot more polished, and the ending felt like you didn't have enough time to do what you wanted to.
I definitely enjoyed playing though! Well done on this one :)
such an amazing grame, it's crazy how much content it's in there, all the dialogs, the level, the quests, really impressive
Pretty fun! Ended just about before it got annoyingly boring to run fetch quests between same few islands.
Screenshot 2023-10-03 at 18.51.42.png
Obviously it looked awesome. Sounded pretty good too for what was there. Really would have needed more though. I think the only sound effects were the talking one and the stepping sounds. The speaking sounds were fun. Would have been nice to have different ones for different characters though. The boat at least would have needed a sound. And collecting coins too.
Telling that something is south-west when it's almost exactly west is a bit of a prank. Did manage to find everything without needing the map or anything though. It's just kinda tough to navigate when there is nothing to go by. Can see any landmarks in the sea and can't rotate the camera to see where you'd be going either. Allowing rotation would make exploration feel so much better. Same goes for in-land exploration too. The controls felt a bit janky and especially awkward when going to spaces like around the woods in lighthouse island. Every object had just way too big colliders which made walking around feel like guesswork and a chore.
The dialogue had it's great moments but mostly it was annoyingly filled with shallow "oh really" "yea really" and "no wai" "yea wai" isms. Just didn't flow quite right and had too many one liners back and forth between characters. And even when characters had more to say, it was needlessly cut to separate dialogue lines which made it seem even choppier. Of course it's a jam game so you don't have the luxury of iterating through the material too many times shining it to a sparkling gem but sometimes just less is more. There were also quite a lot of spelling mistakes.
Was the eastern island completely pointless by the way? 🤔
Good job! 👍
Definitely the best looking game I've played during the jam so far, the music was nice too.
My main complaint is that overall the game plays a bit too slowly; lots of lines of dialogue with no way to skip through them, the character and the boat move quite slowly and there's plenty of backtracking due to the fetch quests.
Still, this was an amazing work for a game jam, congrats on submission!
so i ran around the island collected 12 coins, talked to the other guy till there was nothing left, talked to the boaty things at the docks, then ventured out in the water trying to swim cause the boat wouldnt let me on. and i died. walked around the island looking for something to trigger something or move the story along and found nothing. did i miss something? oh and a nitpicky thing, there was no sound when i picked up the coin :P
Really charming game. Really visually striking. Love the art style and great mood.
Graphic design is awesome and it has a lot of content for a jam. Great entry!!!
The game has a lot of zeldish vibe :D great looking, great music and animations.
Amazing art!
Great art and music here. Super cute. I wish you could exit out of dialogue!
extremely charming game, beautiful artwork, delicious music and the controls are really fun.
a little boring if anything.
one small bit: I wish there was audio feedback when you picked up a coin!
Loved it!
Chill game with quite a lot content! The art style is great, audio works well with it. Dialogs are funny and charming, and I really like the little animations of the characters sometimes. I would say it's a bit of a light take on the theme.
Precious game! The artstyle really stands out and looks great, and I love the don't starve + short hike inspiration :) I got a little bored just walking/boating back and forth but it was good overall - would have loved to see more sounds to really fill out the mood tho
The art style is amazing. The character designs are great too! Especially the animation when the characters speak. Playing the game is a slog though. It feels like a really long-fetch quest.
The graphics and mood of the game were great. I really liked the little touches of humour in the dialog.
I do have two quite large complaints aabout the game though. The first is whilst the music was really nice the looping was a little too obvious and due to the length of the game it was very obvious when it repeated. The second is the length of the game. It felt a little boring just because it took so long to get around. really disappointing because of how amazing the initial experience is, it just overstays it welcome.
I think to fix this a sprint button/boost would have made it feel like progress is coming quicker. Also a small in-game map would of helped.
Overall though the game is of an impressive quality for the jam. Really lovely presentation and can see how the theme applies
I just love the art!
Wowzers! Such incredible and unique visual style! It's SO satisfying to move and jump about too! The chill jazz music really seems to fit with the game too. You've made it look so good, and it has such a limited palette too. I hope this ends up in the top 10!
The artstyle here is just incredible, really love the atmosphere you guys set up!
Holy moly that's a lot of game for a jam
This game looks so awesome but i cant seem to play it on itch.io.... not sure why. So far i love the graphics and the music is quite nice! if you can get it working on itch.io i might be able to play it :(
nevermind i got it to work. I'll leave a review after completion
-I feel like a map and list that shows objectives or items that need collecting is needed. Spent a lot of time going through dialogue trying to remember what to collect -Wish you could pan the camera to different angles. First person maybe? -Boat is a little annoying to handle but that’s probably because I'm a bad gamer haha -Wish there was an (E) button that indicated that you could get off the island at any point. Spent way too long trying to make it to the dock only to realize I didn’t need to. But that’s only a beginning of the game problem. -Gameplay is very linear, although I did find myself immersed in playing it because it provided good atmosphere -Music and art is very well done -I like how the scope is limited to walking around the trees. Would have made the perspective more confusing. Doing this also guided the player and shortened the game which is useful for a Jam -Also like how you can call your boat from the docks. I crash landed a few times losing it in the sea
Overall very great work!
Cute!! The art is phenomenal
The art style seem great, but this webgl build is very laggy and buggy, I entered the water and I get soft locked. I downloadable version would help with the laggy I assume.
The art style is great, and the dialogue is also very cute.
Very impressive and polished art style.
The game had some issues at times at keeping me engaged. Multiple times I found my mind wandering and not staying immersed and focused into the game. These types of story-driven games are very hard to do in a jam setting, so I would still give this a very good grade. But I just thought it would be interesting for you to know as a feedback.
Overall, a superb jam entry!
I just enjoyed the graphics so much, I love finding games that really can make the best of the art style used (especially when the art style itself is this unique and pretty). Narrative part was also great, even though characters didn't have expressions you could still feel their emotions. The big fish was my favorite, where can I adopt him pls
I didn't understand how to use the boat and get to the next island.
I just loved the artstyle! Remember me a lot of both night in the woods and a short hike, which i love very much. Really funny text and I loved the ending cutscene with the lighthouse! Some of the colisions with the trees were a bit weird and there was some invisible walls on the islands because of that, which was just a little annoying, but overall the experience was really funny! :) Great game!
Lovely art style and music, very fitting. I loved the humour! Not being able to turn the camera though... Annoying!
Very cute models and animations. Loved how silly the characters looked when looking up. The jazzy soundtrack was also a nice change to the usual music in these jam games.
I felt like the map was a little big - I got lost in the ocean a few times.
That's really an awesome game for a jam! I immediately felt vibes of A Short Hike, which is one of my favorite indie games, while the music kind of remembered me Untitled Goose Game. The mood is just perfect (according to my personal taste, at least) and dialogues are funny.
I must point out the sea props covered the tree island entirely, and randomly a bit of shore of other islands. I appreciated the role-playing mechanic with the fish but I am not sure how it fit in the context except for the meme.
Maybe the map is too big in the sea, it's easy to get lost and most of my time is spent just navigating. I understand it could a feature, but I would just revise it a bit to preserve the game's pace.
Overall real good job guys
A cute and relaxing game! I really like the storybook-like style. The music is also cheerful! Obstacles, especially the tall pine trees, can easily block the view. I hope you can optimize this. Overall, I like the game, and it's very suitable for playing on a mobile phone.❤
this game made my day
Very pretty game but it will become better if you will add more sounds ex.picking coins, riding the boat etc.
I’m loving the art style!
Great piece of art! Amazed at how you manage to create so much content for jam
@sashunyar thanks! Limited color palette did help a lot
Aaaaaaaa very cool game! I really like the style, it's beautiful!
Great art, very relaxing game.
What a game! Thank you for the experience!
This is so so cute I love the art style! I can really see the love you put into this game (I LOVE the A short hike vibes) I had so much fun just zoomin about hehe
First of all, I love Charles, and the way all the animals interact is so funny, I was streaming it with friends and one of them was doing voiceovers, so it was hilarious!! "i fell here" and all the animals being so nonchalant and reacting with "ok" or "cool".
It truly feels like such a complete game, especially with this polished narrative implemented in the game. The overall atmosphere is very cute and cozy! I do wish I was able to run faster or look around my surroundings with my mouse, but given the 72 hours to make this, this is absolutely amazing. Huge kudos to the 3D artist as well too! Great job!! CHARLES.png
Damn its beautiful
@pichiiparu thank you!
Thanks everyone for playing and sharing your emotions! It warms our hearts to know that we caused good feelings :3
Graphics is amazing, but gameplay is a bit too slow paced for the jam, game.
Love the art work in the game its amazing, so simple and even if its a black and white only game it felt perfect. I really liked the jokes dotted about in the chat boxes as I completed my missions.
Amazing art and music. The mood of the game is great. Wondering how you achieved this aesthetic. Did you use a shader for the character and 2d sprites for the rest of the game?
@borjan1peovski yep For 3d it's single color unlit + inverted hull outlines For 2d it's the same shader, but transparent with Alpha Cut
it was so pretty and the music was really fun, after a while i could tell that it was just the same clips repeating but it was still good i love that idea it worked very well. the dialog was also fun and quirky (i've made a jam game with this kind of dialog before so now im wondering if it's a trope for jam games now?)
So cute! Camera was a bit finicky sometimes when you went behind trees and such, but doesn't really interfere with the gameplay since it's so chill. Great job :)
It's cool that the camera doesn't rotate so even without a map you can know where you are in the world and not get disoriented. I also liked that the dialogue wasn't very serious lol. Very chill game and a lot of content for a jam.
Really liked the art style and the music. I enjoyed the bit of humor that was put in as well :)
This was fantastic! I love the shading! It comes with great artstyle. Animations were super fun, especially the jerkiness ^^ Music sets this up perfectly. This feels like a lot for 72h tbh. And the writing. For some godforsaken reason it really got me xD Especially the unexpected one-liners like "his past was pretty dark ngl" and "oh that? that's just a god particle". I feel like I have to complain about Benji giving wrong directions to the tree (it's definitely not south-west). He made me find Barry the Barracuda instead and narrator said something about Windell and I started to feel lost. Especially because of how little of the sea the camera (otherwise being super fun) shows. But in the end it all come together.
the audio and gameplay was chill I personally wish the dialog was easier to get through as it felt long at times.
I'm gonna steal your style hahahahahah. Too good!
Great looking game! I don't really have much to add that others haven't said. I didn't end up finishing it because the dialogue and fetch quests became samey, but I enjoyed sailing around. I think some of the islands could have been a bit closer together, it was sometimes tedious trying to find the right island based on directions from the NPCs. Overall very cozy mood and stunning visuals. Nice job!
The style looks really great. I think i will try it with some more colors and see how it turns out. But really great game and nice play. Just the dialogs could be more in one rather than every line has to be clicked. It slowed me down when i wanted to read faster.
What an amazing entry, I love these type of games! I could nitpick but for 72 hours this is wild, and by 2 people alone? Astounding to be honest. I can tell there is some over-scoping as mentioned above, happens to the best of us to be honest. Add that coin SFX in (because it's satisfying!!!) and you have me sold. This is a real game in itself if you expand on it and take the feedback onboard! Terrific.
Silly, fun, cute, and charming. Great job! My husband laughed aloud multiple times at the dialogue :)
Cute game. I really enjoy the art with the black and white contrast. And it's nice to be able to interact with multiple choices dialogs. (Maybe a bit too long. Too many small sentences, and the voice is a bit annoying after a while). I like the fact that there's not reset when you restart. The Island is fitting the theme, but could have been even smaller to feel a more limited space. And it would be nice to be able to turn the camera to understand better where we are. The character animation is well done, but too slow. And the jump is a bit like we are jumping on the moon ^^. The collision box of the coins is too big and just a small sound would give better feedback when you take it. Anyway, it's a good game. You did a very nice work! Congratulation you two :-)
I love the cute art! The sound! And the fun dialouges! But the map is a bit big and repeated for me and the dialouge is a bit long(hilarious enough though).
+ to comment "Sorry everyone for making this too long "
Lovely style and mood. I like the surreal feeling of the whole environment, although navigating was a bit tough and I wish there was a way to run or otherwise engage yourself while traveling
Great game and nice shader and overall look 👍🏻
The shader is really nice. Graphics gave me such a good vibe. Per general as cute, really enjoyable and I think it can be developed till perfection
very special art style, retro is the best!!!!
Wow the art works are reeeally cute, especially the characters and motions. All the factors in this game are so harmonious and intergrated!! But when sailing with boaty i found that, if im going backwards the controls will also be reverse, which brings a little confusion for me TuT Anyway its a really good work!!like it ❤
amazing game, super beautiful poilished, loved the art style ansd way the characters talk
Guys, thank y'all so much for feedback! As the writer I appreciate everyone liking the humor in this so much 😭😭♥♥♥
This game looks so simple but it looks so nice at the same time. Beautiful artstyle! I wonder how you guys made all of this in 3 days. The dialogue, animations, and characters were funny. The background music was also nice but it started to get repetitive really fast. It also started to get boring when moving around aimlessly with the boat. Overall this is a very neat game.
@kris3 there is no hand-made animations apart from ending cinematic, character/boat stuff is all procedural.
We were able to cut a lot of corners related to content by limiting color palette to 2 colors
Thanks for the feedback!
this could have a big future
Very cool game! I would have liked to finished it but I lost 2 times my boat (it drifted from the island even though it was docked), next time I will docked it IN the island haha. Overall very good game, love the design sooo much!! The 3D looking like 2D is very nice, it could be a real game!
@babaorhum you can call the boat by interacting with the Screenshot_6.png
Thank you!
Excellent adventure game! The art style reminded me a lot of TOEM, which is definitely a good thing. The water animations are breathtaking. Driving the boat into the unknown felt awesome!
Even the dialog is fun, I especially enjoyed the D&D reference, lol. The music fits the theme perfectly.
I'm not sure if the game matches the theme, because it's a huge map after all, but I don't care and don't want to nitpick :) You did great! Well done!
@zubspace Thanks for the feedback!
The way how we came up with the idea was "island sounds like a limited space... what if ... there is a set of such limited spaces in a limited space?"
So we have a set of islands which are separated from the world by a broken lighthouse
Loved the graphics!!! The game really feels more like a finished game than a jam entry, really impressive for such a short time! Congrats on the submission!
I love the atmosphere, the graphics are trully wonderful!
The art style is so cute that I really enjoy the animation style modeling. I wish I can play more about this in the future!
Absolutely gorgeous and the jazz is so soothing. Very impressive
Beautiful game! I loved it! God particle lol
I think it definitely needed a map, quest tracker, and some movement polish. but I know game jam time is limited.
Wow, this blew my mind, what an amazing entry! I like almost everything about this game, from the calming music, the funny dialogue, the simple graphics and smooth animation. But I noticed there're some places that prevent the player from walking into, like some sort of colliders, so I have go around the island to get to the other side, kinda annoying. But you guys have done so much things in such a small amount of time, very impressive. Can't wait for the full game!
nice game !like the art and mood, the atmosphere is so wounderful
Visual fire! I really like 3D games with 2D graphics! Are you sure you did this for the jam? hahaha Turned out very cool!
Cute game. Loved the mood and art style, and as well the diverse cast of characters.
Boaty gotta be one of my favorites haha Fish part was also super epic, with all the vfx and practical effects
Love the graphical style in this nice little adventure game! That along with the chill jazzy soundtrack kept me engaged through the game even when I felt some of the fetch quests could be a bit more streamlined. Also wish the movement speed could be a tad faster to help with this as well. There are some nice systems here though, boating, dialogue, cutscenes. I'd like some more audio feedback overall but there is always room for polish in jam games. Pretty impressive still!
It's really impressive you could make all this in just 3 days. Did you use many existing assets or was everything made from scratch for the jam? I really like the art style and the music. The controls feel a little bit floaty to me, but maybe that is what you were going for. Overall it turned out great.
What a beautiful game. Very lovely art style and music. Great job!
@siberpunk01 everything from scratch for the jam :) Thank you so much!
A very sweet and funny game
Very original and interesting art. As it is largely based on dialogue, it limited me by not understanding the language perfectly. I COULD be able to turn the camera, but I know it's a bit time consuming to implement, so ok. The music fits well. I didn't find the space limited in any way, on the contrary. Even though it's not a very big island, it still seems very spacious to me.
Super cool graphics! reminds me a lot of Return of Obra Dinn and Night in the Woods and a little bit of Deaths door. Super well done!
How did you manage to make all of this in 72 hours?! So awesome
Really impressive and enjoyable art, music also fits a lot. Normally I don't touch story-based games, but this one seems really unique, so I tried it. It turned out the game was full of full, so my investment was worthwhile. It somehow reminded me of Animal Crossing. One minor complaint would be I hope there is a map because the sea was a bit too large, I got lost for a few times. Overall a really solid and impressive game!
The art style is unique, good job on that! The game is fairly polished and reminds me a lot of Animal Crossing as well. I wished exploring with the boat was more enjoyable as I got lost a lot, would have been great to include a map the reveal explored islands and point of interest. Overall, a good game and great submission to the jam.
Let me start by saying that you very obviously know what you're doing, and there's not a lot positive that can be said that hasn't already rightfully been said by many others, this is a fantastic LDJam piece and I love the "A Short Hike" and "Night In The Woods" artistic DNA at play here - amazing work!
As you're looking to take this game further than the Ludum Dare, here's some feedback I hope might help you: - The camera sway is a bit too aggressive. I very rarely feel travel sick in games, but this immediately made me feel some discomfort - When working in monochrome it's important to develop your own visual language to separate interactive entities from the environment. I'd work on developing this language, as some objects for sure blended in. - Jump felt too floaty, I recommend increasing gravity past the peak - Acceleration on turn feels a little too long without much animation feedback to justify it, could probably be snappier? - As mentioned before, the boat can be a bit nightmarish - Dialogue is too segmented. Too many short sentences in a row that could feasibly be joint together to make the sentence flow feel cleaner and snappier. - You can definitely feel the pressure of the game jam in the writing, a lot of the dialogue feels rushed for the sake of content without much care for the grander narrative or individual character personalities. I think what you have as a base is absolutely perfect for a game jam, though you should consider rewriting chunks of it for a full release
**Please consider this to be full release feedback**, as this feedback on a game jam entry this would all be very nitpicky and you did amazing!
Holy cow, what a wonderful art style! Map could have been included in game, but thanks to it being on itch I was able to finish the game and witness the "god particle" xD. Music and the gibberish was nice, but the game could have used more sound effects for the boat, picking up coins etc.
The game ran great in browser and looked quite beautiful. The relation to the theme of limited space was a bit vague, but I guess deserted islands fit the category. All-in-all, amazing work for 72h, glad to to hear you are considering continuing the development, quite a charming entry this one!
Very cool adventure game you created here with a lot of content. I liked the artstyle and the quirky characters with their funny dialogoues a lot. Game feels very round except for some minor bugs and glitches, but nothing gamebreaking.
@caladrius thanks so much for the feedback! We agree with everything. I've been researching camera sway a bit in other games and seen plenty of same feedback for the Cult of the Lamb camera, so definitely need to do plenty of research for that! Ty! ♥
Graphics are wonderful! While I wish the character moved a bit faster, it's not an awful pace. The boat controls feel a bit spongy or floaty BUT I love that about them - it really feels like steering a small boat through choppy waters. Some cute humor is peppered throughout (mostly in the dialogue), which was a treat especially in a game that had to be turned around with jam-time constraints! Tight little story that isn't weighed down but a lot of extra cruft. I was also very impressed by the internal game loops - talking to NPC's, getting a straight forward goal, finding a new island, exploring a bit, etc. Great pacing on that front. Nice work!
I don't even know what to say... To think you were able to do this in 72h. Really GG ! The game is awesome, I loved the graphics and the story is interesting with even a bit of lore... It's just awesome ! I hope for you that you win this jam, you deserve it. A really great entry !
This was so much fun. Unfortunately, I didn't finish because I accidently hit "E" while in the middle of the water instead of "W", then I couldn't find the boat after I respawned. I loved the audio when the characters talked. I loved the dialog. I loved that this was a pretty solid all around entry.
My absolute favorite part though? The looking up animation.
Hey, I’m the host of the Ludum Dare score chasers tournament for this jam
Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background in the waiting period / intermission. In the waiting period its going to cycle between gameplay of a bunch of different games in the background (with music from games in the jam playing as well)
Hey @ategon, we would love that!
Really good graphics, puts you right in the mood. Limited colour palette looks stylish and gives a great impression. I was drawn to the game initially exactly because of graphics. Then, the music is fantastic. It sounds like classic music, but it strangely works well with the whacky-ness of the game, creating a unique feeling. The dialogue was funny because of it being overly casual and also fit the vibe of the game well. I liked character animation a lot (especially in the beginning when these two bent backwards!), and the way camera was moving while I am walking. "Voices" did sound good and not annoying or creepy at all.
I was pleasantly surprised I could go into the water (w/o the boat, by myself)! Even though I drowned after going bit too far, it feels so good to be able to interact with it. The smooth floaty jump felt unusual, but I can't decide if I like it or I don't ^^'
Sometimes it felt bit hard for me to navigate the boat; and an option to open a map in game itself would be a nice addition for after-jam development.
Can't say for sure why exactly, but something about this game reminded me of Don't Starve, and I like that :)
Overall, it's impressive how much you got done in just three days! A whole little world with several islands and quests, beautiful graphics, smooth mechanics, gorgeous music ^^
@kanity thank you so much 😭😭😭😭 Glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow what an amazing art style! This game really reminded me of Animal crossing. Loved to walk/boat around the world and find new things to do. The writing was really good and cute!
Not being able to move the camera did do my head in. I got a bit motion sick of the moving camera. I would have loved to be able to look around myself to see all the lovely details up close.
But besides this it was a great time.
Awesome job!
Very charming adventure/exploration game! The visuals are so clean and adorable, definitely feel a mix of Toem, Animal Crossing, and A Short Hike. It's a pretty great amount of content and very efficient use of all the assets and things to make the world feel big. I only wish the movement and interactions were a bit snappier/juicier, but great overall!
Holy the animations and dialogue are top notch! I love the style and humor, reminds me of A Short Hike. The blend of 2D and 3D art looks really nice and the boat dock respawn system is very neat.
I think there were only a few problems for me. Islands feel a little too far apart for a character that moves pretty slow. And minor nitpick, the water splashes of the boat stands out with the details. The jazz is so cool too, but its a bit too excited for too often for me, I'd enjoy a chill version when nothing's happening.
Other than that really good adventure game and really impressive for 72hrs. Really enjoyed this!
Amazing animations/dialog. You guys really pulled out all the stops.
Love the look! Always a pleasure to see a jam game with such a specific style.
This art style is amazing! Great job!
This game is incredible! wonderful graphics and atmosphere. I particularly liked the piano music
Really liked the awesome chase sequence across the entire sea with olts of underwate action! Very high budget, my favorite part of the game.
The graphics are amazing and the adventure was entertaining
Here are some things that I think you could improve: * A button to close dialogue, for situations when you accidentally start a really long conversation again and have to skip through it all * Story-wise, the dialogues appeared funny at first, but it became boring after a short time, with each character having the same personality and manner of speech. Even with this narrative style, your characters could be more unique and diverse if you give them different personalities. * Gameplay-wise, a journal to keep track of all the things you need to collect would be a nice addition. Also, it's too easy to get lost while traveling between islands, even a simple compass would help a lot
Overall, a very nice game!
the style and charm this game has is incredible! my only criticism is that the movement is a little floaty and a little slow for my personal preference. great entry :) cant wait to see what your future projects look like
I loved this to bits. The art style was fantastic and controls felt good! The writing was super funny and characterful, and the absurd nature of everything like the god particle just hanging out was so cool.
I did get lost in space a few times just bc navigating can be quite difficult, and once I just forgot how to get motor oil bc I low-key forgot the Bernd existed. So a journal would have been very handy.
Overall tho, with a bit more polish, I'd totally play a full version of this!
The dialogue in this game reminds me of "A Short Hike", which is one of my fav games (its on Steam)!
- I was a little disoriented with the 3D of the game but eventually got used to it, - A mini map would be a nice touch
Otherwise, nice entry. The humor is great.
