LD53 — Delivery

Crystallium by MikoziQ 2023-05-03T10:50:05Z

The aesthetic of the game is nice. I like the perspective a lot and the assets look great, too. Im not entirely sure how I feel about the turning mechanic, since 1 button press without further input is exactly a 90° turn, but you don't stick to a grid. And for my slow-*** reaction times going left-right-left-right fast to not go in 90° increments is not really controllable. But I do like the physics interactions with the environment so a grid would be out of the question probably. I think for my preference the turns would need to have smaller ° increments. But that's personal preference for the most part. The UI on the truck is a clever idea. The delivery to the green pads could use some extra visual feedback though, I think. It took me like 3 deliveries to realize I am actually delivering something. Maybe a more visible punch on the numbers or something. Overall, this is a very solid submission. Well done!

Packet by Defrag 2023-05-04T07:10:20Z

It's a pretty deep idea. Could be interesting as a bigger version of the game, where you have more time to learn the complexities of the game slowly, since the mechanics seem quite complicated. I am still somewhat sleep deprived, but I didn't understand the upgrades and the encryption from the tutorial alone. The tutorial also was quite long for a jam game, which I understand since the gameplay is complex and it is remarkable that there is a pretty well made tutorial at all in a compo submission.

The biggest flaw with the gameplay would be the text messages in my opinion. There is a pretty fast and strict time limit on completing the deliveries, so there really is no time at all to read the text of the messages. That is some unfortunate dissonance between gameplay and narrative. Maybe those messages could come between deliveries in a time stop, so you actually can read them without losing precious thinking time. There are some other nitpicks about visuals and UI, but those can be mostly neglected for a jam game, imo.

I really did like the mood and narrative of the game, though. It felt very fitting and the music supplemented the mood very well. Overall I'd say it's a great idea but the game design was maybe a little overscoped for a short jam. Could be interesting if you build on it, though!

The Great Eggscape by Syriella 2023-05-03T07:14:27Z

5/5 eggs would play again. I'm pretty eggstatic about the sound design it's quite literally the yolk of the game. The chewing gum strips were a bit eggravating to get over, but after some fries I cregged it. A clear eggsample of silly premises making for a fun eggsperience.

Uber Meats by magicstunts123 2023-05-03T07:07:37Z

The animations are baller. Quite sure you guys took some kind of acid to come with that game idea. Or, you know, maybe genetically modified parsnips, or something. Quite interesting to see a 2.5D "study" in Unreal. Well done!

Unsafe Delivery Co. by MorePixels 2023-05-02T16:02:46Z

Well done, very good scoping for a game jam. I particularily enjoyed the satisfying oomph when landing with the character and the well done animation for the MC. If I had to criticize something, I would say that I'd rather just pick up the box by walking over it and only use the space button to throw. I think that would feel somewhat smoother. Also I had a bug when throwing the box. Instead of flying through the air, it would kick off and bounce back into the hands of deliveryboy-man. This happened after trying to throw within the elevator a bunch.

OuterSpace - Pizza Delivery by XSchaumiX 2023-05-02T16:11:18Z

Very impressive for a solo game jam game. Even if the music was third party, it was well picked and set a great mood for the game. The movement felt very space-y and nice. I did wish the shooting was a bit more useful right at the start - it was hard enough for me to land anything at all and when I did, one shot wasn't enough to do anything to the enemies, so I would probably only invest in ship speed on a replay.

The Mailman by Castitatis 2023-05-03T07:32:30Z

Very well made game, especially for a game jam and being solo. I'm impressed. My biggest gripe would be, that you have to use the mouse in the menu screens. I wanted to just click "J" and restart the game, but had to take my hands of the keyboard to click the stuff. That's obviously a nitpick, but I thought it still was worth sharing. That said, the game feels great. I don't think I could achieve something like that solo, yet.

Lil' Red Witch by Bluepir 2023-05-02T16:19:38Z

Nice little game :) It felt very cute and obviously has a lot of polish going into it. My main issue would be the UI, maybe it's my jam-exhausted brain, but the buy/sell UI was kind of hard for me to understand for me at first. I think it would've helped to use something more telling than red stars / green stars. The sound was great, too!

Hedgie's Letter Hunt by Blueanoli 2023-05-03T07:05:00Z

Since I knew that the creator of this game only recently started coding, I am seriously re-evaluating my talent as a programmer. Very well done! I was figuratively blown away by the amount of content you managed alone in this short of a time. Keep at it!

Delivery Boy by waptaincaffles 2023-05-02T15:53:51Z

Great submission! This is a perfect scope for a game jam game and very well exececuted. For my tired eyes and hands the gameplay was a bit hectic, I had trouble following the camera with my eyes, but that's probably still from sleep deprevation due to the jam :)

Deep Sands Delivery by Rjdrag 2023-05-03T07:48:09Z

That was pretty nice and quite amazing for a jam game to be honest. Sadly, I got stuck at the top-left most station and the rig wouldn't move anymore. There are some minor nitpicks here and there, like the lodading spelling error, the laser shot originating behind the gun and stuff like that, but that is pretty inconsequential for a jam game, in my opinion. I was slightly irritated that you are kinda hosed, if you go to the bottom stations first, since you can only deliver the white parsels at the top-left. But now that I think about it, I didn't need to load white now did I? You kind of do that on instinct though, at least in the first play-through. So that's my 50c. Overall I'm quite impressed.

@klausklapper That is a good idea! Thank you for your feedback :)

Mushroom Mail by Endocrine_BAMSc 2023-05-02T16:25:42Z

@gonzalo-ferretti Very valid criticisms. We ran out of play-testing time, the player controller needs some major fine tuning. The aiming mechanic was a tribute to the yoshi's island games, which I love dearly. But I didn't have the time to implement some stuff those games did. I agree on the main character cafwee-art did splendid work there!

Mushroom Mail by Endocrine_BAMSc 2023-05-04T16:35:17Z

@sodoj Thank you for your kind feedback! The player controller is pretty over the top, so I didn't manage to playtest and adjust all the variables in time, that's why it feels weird. I have adjusted those for the itch.io build already, but I didn't want to adjust them here until after the voting period.

Akoban by KoB-Kirito 2023-05-03T07:17:06Z

Very cute and a surprising amount of content. Well done! You might want to change the title, though? I think in the game he is called Boris Akuban and the title is Akoban. Not sure if I'm not getting an in-joke here, but maybe that is a mistake :) I am especially in love with all the scene backgrounds - the style is quite amazing. Keep at it!

Akoban by KoB-Kirito 2023-05-03T13:18:25Z

@kob-kirito Ooooh that makes sense. I played it way too late at night, so I probably didn't get that.

LD54 — Limited Space

Tiny Farm Island by gamesplusjames 2023-10-04T06:27:02Z

Great concept! The theme was implemented very well and the game was really polished. Personally, I find the game to hectic. To me, farming games are usually something calm and relaxing and the music used would suggest so, too. Which is in stark contrast to the acutal game play which is frantic due to the time limit. I the game design works really well overall, though - especially in the context of a game jam. The intro text got a chuckle out of me as well. Well done.

LazerPhaser by EvilMurlock 2023-10-03T17:54:08Z

Great little puzzle game. You did a lot with a small amount of assets - perfect for a jam. Sadly I too did not have anyone for a 2 player match, but single-player was quite enjoyable aswell.

FELL OUT by daveranan 2023-10-04T08:33:03Z

I didn't understand how to use the boat and get to the next island.

The Endless Night by Just Dzhi 2023-10-04T07:35:17Z

Probably my favourite entry so far, well done! The UI is great, the sound design is spot on, the theme is met in a simple, elegant fashion and the gameplay is fun. Great polish overall and def has enough content for a jam game. It's maybe a bit too much on the easy side of difficulty, but I rather have that than many of the super hard games where I can't even finish a level, since I'm not familiar with that particular genre.
