Amazing artwork and gameplay. It's very satisfying to kill. Good job!

cody-holt 2022-04-05 03:42

Text is a bit blurry, but nice job.

minibobbo 2022-04-05 03:49

@owinmowe Thanks! I'm really happy with the gameplay this time around.

@cody-holt Yeah, that is the problem when you combine true type fonts with upscaled graphics. At some point I'll have to convert them into bitmap fonts and do it that way, but no time during a jam.

Here's my current best time. besttime.png

karbirus 2022-04-05 04:02

I really like the game, but I'm not the best player for it. The art is great!

vbj-gamedev 2022-04-05 07:24

Very good entry, great art and innovativ Gameplay but i dont thing that the theme isnt really matching this Game for me :)

lody-giving-teacup 2022-04-05 07:31

The game is really good the idea is also good and original , however the font is a bit blurry , anyways good work !

fuugul 2022-04-05 07:31

Fun! The slicing sound is very satisfying. 237.53 seconds :)

codexzier 2022-04-05 07:33

The game follow the pixelart. Great work for graphics and sound.

yusovv 2022-04-05 13:20

Very cool game mechanics, and I liked the visual style, everything is done at a high level! amazing

minusc 2022-04-05 14:13

Very nice. You get into it fast and it's quite fun, the mouse only gameplay is nice. Sometime hard to jump when your target is out of the screen. Still, nice job !

sjpixels 2022-04-05 14:41

Really well polished game!

Things I liked:

- The art is all super readable and nice to look at. The animations feel snappy and satisfying. I like how you squash and stretch the sprite while jumping. - The music fits the vibe well and got stuck in my head pretty quickly - The controls are pretty unique and I haven't played anything like it before - The game feel was solid. Slicing enemies felt great (although the first time I thought I died) and jumping and sticking to the ceiling is really cool. - The amount of content is really impressive. Every level feels unique and like you have a clear goal. Great job for being able to get this much content in in a jam game!

Things that could be improved (in my opinion):

- The controls often just felt frustrating. Being near a ledge and trying to click to jump, only to run off the ledge and die was quite common. I also didn't feel like I had enough control of my jump for some of the more difficult levels - Being able to walk over spikes wasn't very intuitive and feels a little strange - All levels should have walls on the sides. Some levels you can jump left or right and you go off the screen and die. There's no way to know whether the camera will move with you or you'll just die without just taking a leap of faith. - I may have just missed it but I couldn't figure out how to get back to the main menu once I was in a level without just beating the level. One time I accidentally clicked a level I had already beaten and was stuck in it having to beat it again when I didn't want to. - I didn't really see how it fit the theme. I guess it's inevitable that I will beat the levels if I keep trying but that applies to every game.

Overall, this is definitely one of the better submissions I've played. I'm really impressed by the level of polish and the amount of content!

danker-dev 2022-04-05 15:58

Its very nice! I need a few tries to get the controls right, and understand a little bit how it works, but is a good idea. I think something that helps that is add some line to show the path where you gonna jump.

gaston-camacho 2022-04-05 16:04

Enjoyable game, maybe it was just me but i had issues with the controls for walking, it would have been mutch easier to make it with the WASD or arrow keys. it would have made the game feel to be smoother and more dynamic. overall great game nice level design.

unbugged 2022-04-05 17:19

Excellent game! So far of the jam games, this has taken most of my time. Highly addictive! These graphics works for me and the music is great. Good work!

jungle 2022-04-06 02:18

I felt like a real ninja!

mhorth 2022-04-06 02:34

I would just reiterate what sjpixels and gaston-camacho said. Art is great, game is nice and very fun! Sound effects and the snappiness of the animations made everything feel very real.

Really the only drawback I had at all were the controls. The mouse sometimes felt like it was "sticking" and not moving freely, and then I felt like sometimes I walked when I expected to jump and vice versa. I'm not sure exactly what caused that difference in expectation, but I think this could be a really top notch game if you could improve on the control scheme.

Still a great entry, congratulations!

dunusoor 2022-04-06 04:10

the gameplay was fun, I like the art style (its a style i practice myself) the controls felt nice but I kept having issues getting myself to run. All in all, good job!

2022-04-06 06:46

I loved this game! The controls just generally felt good, especially with the sfx. I think most of the problems I had were just small quality of life things, like how moving on the ground works, or not being able to see your trajectory.

golin 2022-04-06 08:15

Completion of this game is very high!Impressive!

ironfred 2022-04-06 08:21

Really polished game! The controls definitely take some time getting used to but once you get the hang of it, it's so nice to see the character dash to where you want him to be. Loved the announcer voice.

feilkin 2022-04-06 09:06

Really fun game! The cursor felt a bit weird, like if I moved my mouse slowly it did not register the movement. The audio was really good, I liked the meaty slap sfx you get when hitting a wall. The game feels like it would be really fun on mobile.

dennis-magnusson 2022-04-06 10:52

Pretty good! I like how it's designed to be played fast, but it still worked fine if I wanted to play it slow. No issues playing with a touchpad instead of a mouse. Also the soundtrack is a certified bop and really gives me Persona 5 vibes. My main gripe is that sometimes too much precision is required and the character doesn't always move like you expect him to. Sometimes when I would click on a wall he would run instead. Otherwise, though, great stuff!

bottled-up-dark-peace 2022-04-06 17:00

I recorded myself playing, message me on the Jam’s discord @ Dark Peace and I’ll send it to you. It was one of the best games I've played, the clicking mech, though not perfect, was very original ! I made a lot of comments in my video that I don't have the time writing here so contact me on Discord.

vivianmochi 2022-04-06 17:02

Super cute game! The art is so adorable and jumping around is super fun! I love the fact that it's designed with time trials in mind! Definitely agree with other people that it takes some time to get used to the controls, my click accuracy when the camera is moving is really bad. Although I bet it would feel really good with a controller, aiming the direction you want to jump in would be super easy! Either way though, awesome entry!

unless-games 2022-04-06 17:26

Feels very satisfying to move and slice.

I'd appreciate a more zoomed out view.

Cool music!

stefan-funke 2022-04-06 17:27

The concept is cool! The jump feels very nice. Sometimes it doesn't work properly though. Sometimes the jump doesn't go off. Probably because I didn't have line of sight to the cursor. The game should probably be a bit leniant in that regard and do a best possible jump in that direction anyway. And sometimes I want to jump and just fall down. This happens often when I'm close to the edge of a platform.

Otherwise great. Had a good time. Thank you! :)

janniz 2022-04-06 17:28

Really cool and interesting gameplay mechanics! The controls of the player are really intuitive and they are well introduced using the hints on the walls, it made it easy to understand what to do. It also seems quite a lot of content, I couldn't finish the entire game but each level had its own challenges and they got harder over time. Just a few things to note: Sometimes I couldn't see where to jump and it was really hard to estimate how far the player would jump. It would be nice to be able to zoom out or have a trajectory showing how fast the player is going to go (maybe just the first few meters so it's not getting too easy). But still, great game!

f1krazy 2022-04-06 17:37

I found the controls a little finicky. Sometimes I'd try to jump and end up running, or I'd try to run and move about three pixels, or I'd jump and end up landing slightly off from where I aimed at. I beat the first level in 5.99 and have absolutely no idea how I did it because I can't get anywhere near that. It sadly just kinda spoils the experience.

The graphics and sound are great, though, and I like the interpretation of the theme - you're trying to make something good happen instead of preventing something bad from happening like most other games I've played so far. I think it just needs some adjustments to the control system and it'll be an excellent game.

skleembof 2022-04-07 01:13

That was just pure fun right from the start. The precision of the clicks felt a little off, especially the running. I found running to be very unpredictable and usually resulted in my death. I think a jumping arc indicator would have made the game a lot more enjoyable

The music and sound effects were amazing @jamesolivermusic killed it with the soundtrack

The only other issue with the game apart from the unreliable clicking was that the text was way too blurry

adam-gallina 2022-04-07 06:00

I really enjoyed playing this, the platforming felt smooth, altho like the last comment said, not being able to see your trajectory made it feel a little hard to control some of the jumps, like from one horizontal platform to the next. The biggest problem I had while playing it was a lot of the levels had blind jumps, and it felt like there was no way to get past them until you'd tried and failed. Still, it didn't detract from the experience, and I think this would be a lot of fun to speedrun - I certainly had fun finding small time saves in the levels :)

jsloth 2022-04-07 11:39

Really nice concept! I truly hated the fire spirit enemies (In a good way). I could see this also as a fun mobile game to play.

Only negative for me was the blind jumps that others have commented about too. Maybe the game could have also worked without the running aspect cause it felt a bit janky sometimes when the character ran when I wanted it to jump (of course this was my fault when I clicked too low). I think running was only usefull to me in that one spot where it was kinda forced.

Great game tho. Enjoyed playing all the levels!

puddingzserem 2022-04-07 12:10

This game is super fun, it reminds me of those early 00's arcade games. The graphics are super consistent and everything together makes it a nice experience overall :)

jamesolivermusic 2022-04-07 12:42

@skleembof @f1krazy @unless-games @dennis-magnusson @feilkin @ironfred @danmightbetheman @mhorth @unbugged @sjpixels @codexzier @fuugul Thanks so much for your comments regarding the SFX/music for the game. It was a real blast working with @minibobbo on this game, as always! We're both big fans of the Persona soundtrack, so I was definitely aiming for that vibe while writing it. Thanks for playing!

reneantunes 2022-04-07 20:27

I liked it, thank you. Great art.

kidabra 2022-04-08 03:37

This is a cool game! It seems like a classic concept.

kyle-welfare 2022-04-08 03:59

Wow this game is a lot of fun! Loved the mechanic, it would work great on mobile too. A few small things, I felt that the first set of levels were quite a bit more difficult then the next 8. Also, a button to go back to level select would have been very nice. Overall, amazing job!

2022-04-08 05:43

Very cool too but a bit off topic The gameplay is very original but the controls are a bit hard because of the physics that skew our trajectory the race is really weird to take in hand The graphics are good and level design too. the 1:1 format on the other hand is not phew I find

fatiguedfox 2022-04-08 15:27

Alotta fun to be had in the levels, theyre all well designed and look amazing. The music also sounds really cool! The mechanic was really well designed. Wish there was an auto advance when you completed a level tho, along with a level select button to quit back to the main menu at anytime.

daniel-username 2022-04-08 21:32

Quite an innovative move mechanic. Love the art style and music. Something about the cursor doesn't seem to move quite right though, which made the controls feel a bit hard to get used to. But still, great idea and execution!

cover-club-media 2022-04-08 21:58

Fantastic movement! Love how snappy it feels.

longsilvr 2022-04-08 23:13

Heheheh duuude! This was amazing! Its like a little cute version of Ninja Gaiden. I loved the vibe, very goofy but fun. The music was 10/10 and fit the game perfectly. Maybe a bit too hard on the second mission, but I understand that's part of the idea. Well done!

nikl 2022-04-09 15:09

Nice levels and move mechanics. Feels pretty polished for a jam entry, good job!

leekanarchism 2022-04-09 17:34

This was fun! I enjoyed the movement mechanics, the graphical style is good and the soundtrack works very well :)

The level design did force me to yolo a few times, and sometimes it felt a bit like I had to rely on luck to dodge the obstacles off-screen. But I enjoyed the strategic thinking of how to move around the levels.

emaigualmc2-art 2022-04-09 19:06

The art is incredible, even though it looks like they had to scale or enlarge it. If that cool pixel art would look sharper and in a higher resolution it would be great, the animations and characters are perfect xD. The music is great, I really like the sound effects and music. It was a bit difficult for me to get used to managing the character just by clicking, but it's a great idea and fun. Great job!!!

slecornu 2022-04-10 17:24

I love the art style it feels very polished, also the aesthetic is great. I had trouble figuring out how to complete the first chapter though. I need to get gud :D

sotaroni 2022-04-11 22:02

absolutely loved this, the fact you managed to get so many levels out is amazing, im a sucker for ninjas and i absolutely loved the whole aesthetic, the music and the charming graphics, it was quite difficult but i managed to beat all the levels, the only part i struggled with was the spirits as their path was quite unpredicitable even if i could grasp they are going in orbits around me its hard to predict that and your jump path in the amount of time you have on the thin tall levels
