pretty beautiful pixel ar, I like this game!
Really nice! Artwork is great, music is nice, and the gameplay is simple and fun (it was pretty satisfying hitting the wolves with the rocks). Kudos!
Great vibe to the game and I thought the writing was really well done. It took quite a long time to collect stuff after a while, but y'know, gotta keep this noble born bear fed. Good Submission.
Nice art design. The music goes a little crazy between scenes but otherwise nice little game. Enjoyed the ending dialogue as well, wouldn't mind seeing the fleshed out version.
A beautiful game, both graphically and emotionally. If a game is 5/5 mood this is it. I'm so glad to see there will be more because I need it.
This was a very artistic experience which I enjoyed a lot. Awesome attention to detail with the bear breathing animation, the footsteps, etc, it really painted the picture and set the mood. The rock throwing felt satisfying as the rocks whacked into the wolves. Just a really pleasant interpretation of the theme, great work!
You have captured a great mood in this game! I liked how the writing (and the theme of course) hint towards a bad ending that was subverted - I was bracing myself for something very sad but ended up feeling relief. The use of wolves as the antagonist is also superb, very thematic!
nice pixel art and cool story!
This was great. I feel it could really use a rightclick to interact though if I'm going to be left clicking to throw rocks.
A beautiful game with great design and music. For a game this short it has a nice touching story.
Great art direction, solid mood and excellent writing! Really satisfying to hit the wolves with rocks the sound design added a lot of punch. Great job!
The art and audio are fantastic. The UI is very clean, the text-box especially.
The overall gameplay is simple and the controls are quick to pick up.
(minor)
One thing that's weird is the previously established gameplay rules (having to maintain the fire and keep warm) being thrown out on the last day. I get that it would've been too annoying for the player to have to run back to the fire all the time, but it still felt off to have such a large change in gameplay in the last part of the game.
Having the game tied together with a short story is a nice idea. Wanting to know how the story plays out gave me another reason to keep playing.
Fantastic. Really impressed by the writing in this game, I loved reading all the dialog and learning about the characters even though I'd only just met them. I felt bad for all the wolves I threw rocks at, but it was a necessary evil 😅 Great job!
Good mood!
Very heartwarming, loved the little story going on, at times a bit too expository at times, but being a game jam i don't see any other way you could have set a good solid background so i'm actually very impressed with all the story you managed to get in there. The gameplay itself is a neat multitask game, having to juggle finding food and fighting wolves with coming back for warmth works very well, but the big selling point has to be the art and music, they, in a very simple way, really push the story, it was a lovely game to play. I will agree with steven that the drustan's warmth bar should have been kept in the last bit, even if just to put a time constraint on the player, but anyway, it's very well made, congrats on a great entry!
Well done. I liked the overall atmosphere of the game and the mechanics. The inventory system was pleasantly uncomplicated!
The music and art style really fit the overall feel of the game. You really felt like the bear was dependent on you
The overall atmosphere was really well done. The music was very calming, and I loved the artwork. I was also really impressed by the writing, there was a lot of detail put into the story. The gameplay itself was not the most exciting to me, and it took me a while to figure out where to find the rabbits. But this was made up for with the aesthetics.
Well, it's not my type of game (a bit too dialogue heavy - I skipped most of it ) but it's very well made and art style, graphics and music are very fitting. Two little suggestions for improvements: a little warning that the wolves one-hit you would have been nice and I think it's a bit unnecessary that you have to go through the long dialogue again, if a wolf kills you in the last act.
I liked the art side, especially the environment. The mood is well transcribed by the music and the font. A good job overall.
The palette was really well made, sometimes less is more and you nailed the vibe. Would have like a little more game to play!
Wonderful game. Loved Laoise and the keeping the wolves at bay. Great pixel art too with attention to detail where it matters.
Very cool. I enjoyed the game a lot! Thank you.
My favorite game so far, a very beautiful story with a well acommpagneted gameplay
Thank you all for the kind comments and constructive feedback! I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to play the game. I'm trying to get to as many of your entries as I can bit by bit while still playing some others in the jam.
I think the constructive criticisms a few have offered are dead on and I will definitely take those issues into account for a potential future release.
Lovely! Really enjoyed a more meditative take on survival games. Excited to see what you do as you build on it!
I really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere and well polished gameplay. Great job.
Really pretty little game. While I didn't enjoy the writing, I appreciated the time put into it, it just wasn't really my thing so I can't really comment much on it. I did like the aesthetics of the fire scenes at night. I felt the game was at its best while I struggled to bring back scraps surrounded by wolves. A lot of the time it kinda just felt like I was wandering though, trying to find stuff. That bit didn't feel quite as fun. I also found the final sequence a bit clunky. Putting her down and trying to maneuver around her and grab rocks was a bit annoying.
This was a grand little package! As others have said, an easy high score in Mood here. It captured a lot of emotion very quickly, and I was disappointed when it ended as I was pretty invested in it all. I liked the care that went into the final run from the wolves, and was glad I could just push through.
As a contributor to Dialogic, mind if I ask what version you used, and how much you had to change if anything to get it working in time?
@cyzaine I used the latest one that's on the Godot asset library, I believe it's 1.4.1. Didn't change anything or have any problems with it until I switched from debug to release (which I need to make a point in testing sooner next time) and realized Dialogic was causing my game to crash. Read up and found out that the fix is to make sure you're including *.json and *.cfg as non-resource files on your export--no big deal, just caused me a few minutes of panic until I Googled the solution
Thanks for contributing to Dialogic, it's a fantastic plugin and saves me lots of time! Also thanks for playing!
What a great game! The graphics are great, the audio is great, the story is a great fit with the theme, everything comes together to fit the bleak mood. Really enjoyed this, nice work!
Outstanding entry. A very high level of polish for a Jam game. Great graphics, audio, tight and intuitive gameplay, well done! Among the best I've seen so far!
An artistic game with a surprising story! Very impressive for being done by only one person, you did an amazing job!
Very cool man! Love the art and the music...also, you did some story! That's awesome! Good job man!
Spectacular entry. One of my favorites so far. Love the art, and the sound & music is on point. Controls are smooth. Length is perfect, actually. In the end, however, the *story* has to be the star of the show in a game like this... and you deliver wonderfully. I truly grew fond of the characters and cared about their stories.
I agree you should keep working on it. If you got this far in 72 hours, you definitely have it in you to make something truly spectacular. Great work.
Just incredible for 72 hours.
Very nice entry with a sweet story !
The last level is a bit wired for lack of a better word I understand the intention of carrying vs defending yourself against wolf but it fairly easy to drop Laoise in advance, fight and get her it thing the only think that is lacking to improve that part would be that she cannot stay on the ground to long or she will get cold in order to force the player to take risks :)
Very like how it looks! Great job
Very good entry! Presentation of everything is solid.
Constructive feedback: I feel like the gameplay of gathering supplies was a bit of a chore, the walk speed feels appropriate, but also kind of slow, sorry if that's confusing lol. Maybe a sprint mechanic w stamina would help that and keep movement a lil more interesting and engaging. The wolf interactions were the most fun, and I really liked the pace change at the end where we need manage carrying the girl but also fighting the wolves, even though it's kind of easy to just drop her and take care of business, it was a nice touch.
Good job overall!
Nicely done. Was actually interested to see it through to the end thanks to the characters and ominous foreshadowings.
Had some audio glitches with every scene change (nothing too dramatic). Throwing stones at those wolves hurt my soul a bit but that is a given for me :dog: Character could have been a little faster and maybe an indication as to where my traps are positioned.
Nice little easter egg at the end. Fun. Interested to see what additional story points and features you would come up with given more time. The setting would surely allow for some neat directions to go in.
Beautiful game, looking forward to your next interactions.
Very nice portrait art! The rest of it was good too, but the portraits really stood out as excellent. I also enjoyed the sound design. The background music set an excellent mood, and every action had an appropriate sound effect that made it feel impactful.
Difficulty was on the easier end of the spectrum which is absolutely the right choice for a jam game, nice work!
The music and pixel art was so nice! It put me in a relaxed mood and I just got in the zone and played and played. The story is great, I'm not sure I could have written that in 72hr. You wrote and made an entire polished, beautiful game. Congrats!
Thank you for a wonderful experience. Everything was too good. Honestly.
I can tell you're a great guy. I would like to work with you in the same team :D
Is the girl still alive?
I love Ludum Dare games with engaging storylines like this, and this was one of the best I've played. As somber and dark as it gets, there are enough moments of levity to balance it out, and the writing deftly handles both tonal aspects so I never felt any whiplash from the mood changing.
The graphics, audio, and sound design all work together to enhance the mood of the story, and the limited inventory means you have to be careful and balance your various goals. I didn't find the game too difficult, and even the final day was easy enough once I stopped for a moment and figured out an actual strategy.
My only real criticism, and I know this has been brought up by others, is that the music stutters for a few seconds every time there's a scene change. It's really jarring, and it just pulls you right out of the world.
This is a fantastic game for 72 hours' work, and if you do expand it into a larger game, I'd love to play it.
Nice story and nice little fourth wall break at the end!
This game is awesome in graphics, audio, just about everything. Difficulty was just right, and I like how the objectives are listed out nicely at the bottom. Although for me, the dialogue didn't exactly feel "human" enough, but that's just my personal opinion, and it's a jam game after all. For a full version, I suggest you could improve it and flesh out the characters more so they feel more complex and relatable. (e.g. at the start, the protagonist clearly got annoyed when the bear started asking him for help. I suggest that either you could dial down the annoyance level a little bit, or you could make it more subtle and less "in-your-face", and maybe subtly hint at where the annoyance is coming from i.e. his hatred of highnobles, or the prophecy that the druid told him about etc.) But that's really the only criticism I have. I would really look forward to a full version!
One of the most complete experiences of the jam for me. The gameplay wasn't anything extraordinary, but it got the job done and it let the story take the spotlight. Also, throwing rocks at wolves was surprisingly satisfying
I really enjoyed this experience! The art is really cute and charming. I'm ready to play a longer version with a sequel to this story =) It's a good job for 72h! Well done!
I'm a sucker for a story game 10/10.
you've managed to set quite a tense atmosphere without really having much happen. I like it a lot, and the foot prints in the snow where a great touch.
Bonito, boa trilha sonora e sonorização, interessante, passa uma vibe tensa e mesmo assim não chega a ser um walking simulator
Espero que ganhe :)
@polymathld A relaxing and moody entry -- super solid work, man! As others have said, the attention to detail in the graphics and audio, in addition to the story, really set the tone immediately. An excellent submission you should be proud of!
Very neat entry! I loved the added touch of the footsteps, this games art and audio really help to sell the mood.
I do wish that the gameplay evolved a little more, especially between days, but this IS a jam game after all, so that's really a minor complaint. Nice job with this one!
Very very good game, one of my favorite I played so far!
The gameplay is just diverse enough to make it interesting without being to complicated. The clear objectives, the narrative elements and the structure of the game make it way better than other games where you just have to keep a fire burning. Everything goes well together in this game.
Great job and thanks for the game!
i like how all the various parts come together! managing warmth, the fire, rocks, and gathering food feel varied.
i think the narrative was cool, but involved a few too many concepts, like druids and highborns and whatnot, my favorite parts were the grounded, more present aspects, but i appreciate the world building through narrative!
