LD54 — Limited Space

windowkill by torcado 2023-10-22T02:13:49Z

Really amazing game. I hope it gets updated again at some point to fix some important issues. Firstly, the game is a lot harder with a larger screen resolution. I have a 2160p screen so everything appeared twice as small compared to a 1080p screen. This also means I have to travel twice as far to start attacking the boss when it appears. Changing the screen resolution in my computer settings helped but that made the game run really horribly for some reason. And yes, I did run it from the bat file, before that I was having issues even with 2160p.

Raft Blaster! by Alchemic 2023-10-03T02:52:26Z

The concept is solid. Almost everything is there. Just a few things bug me. It does the theme well, with space limited and maneuverability limited. But I think the movement is a bit *too* limited. You can only push one block at a time, so if you end up with a 2x2 square then you can't push any of those anymore. Being able to better manipulate stuff on the raft would help. Or maybe making diagonals count to the match-3 would help a bit. I played on easy mode but it still felt impossible. Everything else besides some fixable gameplay issues is perfect.

Raft Blaster! by Alchemic 2023-10-03T16:34:21Z

@wiredoverload oh wow thanks for letting me know. I'll be sure to give it another try later!

SkyIsle TD by Inventivum Games 2023-10-04T04:39:27Z

Movement is a bit weird and camera movement sometimes jumps around a lot for no reason. I really like the concept though, having player actions directly change the world around them is really cool.

First Home by Mocadium 2023-10-08T05:00:53Z

Nice little puzzle game. I couldn't play it in fullscreen though and was stuck with a tiny window. The cat and baby also got annoying but that's life, I guess.

Station 6 by nardandas 2023-10-08T05:20:05Z

Seems neat. Got kinda confused at the start because I thought I was just that one pixel until the lights went on. Couldn't figure out what to do after getting to the control panel. I tried giving oxygen and power to different rooms but I couldn't get past that one door in room two or make any progress in room 3. I might have gone further if the player was a bit faster. It took a while going back and forth.

Deep Dreams by PoshDan 2023-10-03T21:20:52Z

The game was fun but the time until bankruptcy never seemed to go up no matter what I do. So I was basically only ever to play for 300 seconds before having to start over. Really fun though. I never played motherload but I played a similar flash game called Mega Miner. I loved that and this reminds me of it a lot. Could've done a bit more around the theme and the controls are a bit weird but it's fun and nostalgic.

Microscopic Warfare by Fernando Tonon de Rossi 2023-10-03T06:03:05Z

Fun game. Played for like 10 minutes and we've still only taken up like 10% of the board. I trapped the other bacteria in a corner of the dish but it went to the top and pushed all the other things on the dish downwards. Maybe I'll try trapping it again, but in the middle instead of the edges and see what happens. (edit: i set up a trap in the middle and it said i won so that's cool)

Keepsakes by poboy 2023-10-03T17:50:43Z

It was neat to go back through and see the results of bringing different items. If you wanted to add more replayability you could maybe add more results messages if certain items are brought together. Maybe add some sort of way for the player to see how many of these combos they've gotten. Cool game though.

Afloat by T C 2023-10-04T05:19:08Z

Cool stuff. Feels incomplete, but that's par for a 2-day game jam. I liked zooming around and fighting/setting up towers. There's a lot of directions you could go with this if you expanded it.

Jam-Pack by Plutonium Powered 2023-10-03T18:51:52Z

Fun game to de-stress. I scored 54 on the first 3 levels and got 36 on level 4. Then i got bored. It's a bit repetitive but still pretty fun. On level 4 there was an entire sword longer than the suitcase space lol. It was fun but doesn't offer too much in replayability.

Mechanizyn by Lincolnsalles 2023-10-04T04:25:02Z

I like the concept. Would be cool if expanded to more levels. Although I think in a full game the rooms might need to be bigger to allow you to fit more stuff. It might not fit the theme as well, but if you work on it after the jam, the theme isn't as important. Also I think it would be more convenient if the player started each level at full energy.

Sticktron 2077 by Stefan B. 2023-10-03T18:58:50Z

It's fun but the controls are a bit wacky. The camera rotates with the player which is nice, but the player is always facing to the right, when I think facing up would be more intuitive. Well made though, and the tutorial is well developed

Parking Ltd. by Hawkin 2023-10-03T18:20:19Z

So fun. The concept is hilarious, the gameplay is chaotic, and any supposed "bugs" just make the game more enjoyable. After finishing I had $565 in savings. I found the best strategy ended up being taking the cars straight from Ernie and launching them back out into the street, before the car owner even gets in line. At one point that led to my own downfall though, since the pile I created at the exit caused Ernie to crash the cars straight into the pile, and then go back to get another car, creating an extremely fast buildup of cars just crashed out in the street that caused me to lose.

Space Brigade by Adam Gallina 2023-10-03T06:58:13Z

Game was a bit easy but that didn't stop me from playing it for over an hour. Love this one. The graphics I really love too. The pixelated 3D models are nostalgic in a way I can't explain, and the gameplay loop is fun.

Hell Space Ltd. by hinesite 2023-10-03T05:26:14Z

Any game where you fight Elon Musk as the final boss gets a seal of approval from me. I also got softlocked a few times. There were a couple times also where one alien was stuck at half heath and all my projectiles kept flying through it. Eventually I killed it though. Overall 5/5 humor.

Eclipse by Zeit 2023-10-07T18:06:53Z

It's a cool little demo. The pixel art is a bit blurry, You can fix this in unity by setting the image's filter mode to "point (no filter)".

No Room at the Movies by Kobato Games 2023-10-04T04:21:42Z

lmk if you fix the link. I want to see this game.

No Room at the Movies by Kobato Games 2023-10-04T23:40:20Z

Thank you for pinging me. I just played the game and it was pretty fun. I got the best ending on my first try but tried the others too. The piracy ending is the best one. This was honestly the perfect length of choose-your-own-adventure game for me with my short attention span. Great game.

In the Shadows by KeichiTS 2023-10-04T04:32:02Z

Fun demo. The flashlight mechanic works really well. Maybe it could've been used a bit more? Like what if one of the enemies stopped moving or sped up when the light was shined at it?

Narrow Cells by StvUP 2023-10-03T02:38:52Z

I wish I could say I played the whole thing but I couldn't even get to the purple section lol. I think it'd be cool if either the player health was increased, or the auto-scroll speed was lowered. There were also some points where it seemed impossible for the player to go between two obstacles without taking damage.

Animal Teleporting by JamesW 2023-10-05T03:12:35Z

This is such a fun game! I love how each animal has its own mechanics to make them unique and this would be such an easy concept to expand upon. The level design is great too. Every puzzle felt like a puzzle, as it should with it being a puzzle game. Perfect 5/5 right here. The only thing i can think to improve is to make it so you can switch between animals by pushing space or something, rather than always having to click on them.

Animal Teleporting by JamesW 2023-10-05T03:14:54Z

@gamedevjeroen that's just extra challenge mode. You have to play the game again, but with a part of the screen blocked out

I don't know by addaellis 2023-10-04T04:56:23Z

the itch link leads to a 404 :(

Farmer Defence by Gleb_yakovlev 2023-10-03T18:36:36Z

That was a fun experience. Not much strategy beyond spamming both types of towers between your central tower and the direction the farmers are coming from. Regardless, it was really fun. The "lore" is also really funny.

Capsuled! by Norma 2023-10-04T04:15:52Z

Quite innovative for a grid filling game. Having different objects synergize with others is a great way to make the player think. My only disappointment was waiting for that planet level that the description mentions, it ended after level 3. You know you've made something good when people complain about wanting more of it. Also I feel like the tooltips for each object could be visible whenever you hover over any part of the object. Having to find the base was a bit annoying, but understandable with the time constraint.

Claustrophobia by NoobGeek 2023-10-03T02:29:34Z

Really enjoyable gameplay. I got to level 8 first try, which is where the game stops working. It was really fun having more buttons appear each level though. I would recommend making it expand more beyond level 8, I'd love to see how far i could get if it was endless. Also the buttons could be a bit larger to make it a bit easier to click. The only gameplay choice I question is needing to click the "scheme" button every time. I think the scheme could just be there next to the buttons from the start, since there's no reason to NOT have it up constantly. Really fun and I would definitely come back for an updated version.

Claustrophobia by NoobGeek 2023-10-04T23:52:52Z

accidentally discovered a bug with the new version. If you click "open the door" multiple times at the end of a level, the level counter will increase again so i ended up at level 10 while only having beaten 7 levels. The UI also got crazy and immediately froze. idk if that's normal for level 10 or related to the other bug. I'll have to get there normally to see. You've got me addicted to this game now lol

edit: i tried to recreate it and it looks like it only does this when going between levels 7 and 8

Claustrophobia by NoobGeek 2023-10-05T00:02:56Z

alright i've done a full playthrough again until i died. made it to 18 before i forgot to click on the turny things and ran out of time.

bug report: the number bar is always set to 1 in the blueprints and leaving it blank without clicking any on the actual number row still lets you beat each level

Claustrophobia by NoobGeek 2023-10-05T01:38:54Z

I'll try it out when I can. I think increasing the difficulty ceiling is a good idea. From that one bug I noticed that the game does support more inputs than it maxes out at, so it might be good to increase those maximums, but they do end up overlapping in weird ways. It can be fun when things get weird though I guess.

Tiny Houses by Ethan G 2023-10-03T05:46:41Z

This was fun to mess around with. No complaints. Not what I'd usually consider a "game" but nothing against that. Really cool. For some reason the image uploading isn't working rn :( I stacked a bunch of refrigerators on top of each other it was funny.

Hell's Rising by 0megq 2023-10-03T02:18:23Z

Enjoyable platformer. Took me a minute to realize you have to go around the edges to progress lol. Recommendations: Have the lava distance raise to me a minimum distance from the player so even if you get too far ahead, there's still pressure to keep rising. For the visibility issue another person mentioned, either make the platforms stand out for the background more, OR you can go further in on the visibility aspect and make the platforms be harder to see when looking away and easier to see when the player's light is shining on them.

Fac Spatium by nathmate 2023-10-03T03:01:06Z

Game didn't work when I tried running it in my browser. The tutorial told me to click the triangle. I clicked every triangle i could see, none did anything. temp.png

Fac Spatium by nathmate 2023-10-03T05:33:13Z

@nathmate I'm using google chrome. my screen is also 2160p so maybe that messed it up? temp.png

Spooky Escape by BigAl 2023-10-03T18:01:37Z

Couldn't beat it. I got really close and the time left was less than a second but I just couldn't. Having a win condition rather than a high-score endless runner-type system definitely kept me playing for a bit longer. But alas, I couldn't beat it lol. Fun little game.

Boxed In by raassh23 2023-10-04T05:35:23Z

Deceptively difficult. I kept telling myself it would be easy to beat 27 and get on the leaderboard but it took me at least 10 minutes to get a score not even at 20. (maybe longer, I tend to lose track of time) I love the mechanics and the simple graphics. One complaint is that the purple enemies can catch you completely by surprise when they come out of the edge right on top of you. It's pretty funny since in my game people also complained about the purple enemies coming out of nowhere lol. I really enjoyed your game and if it was launched on mobile as is I would probably play it a lot.

Caveat Exemplum Optimus by Jason Shapiro 2023-10-04T04:02:49Z

I'm not too interested in overly narrative games, but I played for a few minutes. The links to different choices being within the text rather than after it is cool. I don't know if that's something other games do, but if it's not I'd say that's pretty innovative.

Jar World by TheMixedMaster 2023-10-03T03:05:50Z

@mapleleaf thanks for the feedback! I agree there's a bit I could've done to improve the controls as they're really janky rn. I wasn't able to devote as much time to this as I wanted but I ended up with something at least semi-complete so I'd call that a successful first Jam.

Jar World by TheMixedMaster 2023-10-03T03:07:24Z

@ethan-g yeah I could've made them spend less time "dormant" underground. But if the game goes for a few minutes, eventually the purple bugs start to multiply and wipe out the grey bugs completely lol.

Jar World by TheMixedMaster 2023-10-03T16:30:37Z

@poboy first jam, yeah. I probably could've fixed a lot of the issues but the time constraint got me a bit. I barely got it playable and only added the textures in the last 30 minutes lol.

Jar World by TheMixedMaster 2023-10-25T01:06:49Z

I've released an updated version of the game on itch.io! It fixes some of the control issues, adds a replay button, high scores, and 2 new bugs.

inertia in the dark by MapleLeaf 2023-10-03T05:10:12Z

The mechanics were interesting. I'm not one for speedrunning but the timer does add replayability value. The controls are a bit strange, but has a bit of that "easy to learn hard to master" thing if that's what you're going for. If not I'd recommend adding a button to cancel momentum or have the direction of movement rotate with the player. Also if you only care about completing levels and not time, you can just strafe through a lot of the levels.

LD55 — Summoning

Summon Creativity I by karln 2024-04-23T07:13:41Z

This one was really fun! It was a nice calm adventure. I loved the meta joke of running out of time to animate the skeletons, and then also the big meta ending. Really fun. I liked the grappling mechanic too. It was short but sweet. Also I have a feeling the wizard after talking to that demon didn't get all that stuff done for the jam XD 5 stars for theme, honestly.

I Summon Bounce by nardandas 2024-04-17T22:34:12Z

The idea seems really cool but this game is impossible for me. The highest I could get was 5900 on easy mode. The controls are just really slippery. I think having the movement be more responsive would help a lot. I can't manage multiple balls bouncing around at once. I don't think I ever had more than 2 on screen at the same time lol. The music is nice though and I like the low resolution aesthetic.

Veggie Attack by epb9000 2024-04-28T23:11:46Z

I'm surprised this is somehow the only jam submission I've seen so far of a tower defense game. I feel like tower defense could fit perfectly with the theme. The game was nice, but there could be a bit more variety in the enemies or the towers. The cooldown system doesn't feel too strategic. There would be more pressure to strategize if units costed a currency to place and you get the currency over time or you get it from killing enemies. I liked the art and animation. The lettuces walking was a bit janky but i think can be fixed easily if you make each step the same number of frames.

Sminer by LightningST 2024-04-18T21:53:46Z

Fun mix of game mechanics! The mining mechanics were very satisfying and there was a bit of strategy around what was summoned. I did feel a bit disconnected from the actual tower defense though, since all I could do was keep mining as fast as I can until I die. Also the player gets a bit harder to see lower down in the world. I liked the graphics otherwise, and the music track was nice!

Summoning for 2 by Life_Lich 2024-04-23T07:37:17Z

I like the deck building aspects here! Could definitely use a tutorial or something. The idea of the player having to place the enemy's cards is genius though. It's a great way to get around multiplayer being difficult to implement while adding unique strategy. The art is also really great. The style is really nice. Abilities could be clearer and there's also some weird spelling mistakes that should be fixed. Overall, fun game. I wasn't able to get past the 3rd guy though. Also I didn't mess with the custom cards bc it seemed like cheating.

Summoner's Paradise by poboy 2024-04-17T19:13:39Z

Pure chaos. I loved this experience. It's amazing how absurd everything is. My only complaint is the summoning salt bar doesn't appear when i try going into full screen on my monitor. The pure chaos of the random dialogue and the enemies coming out of nowhere and all the upgrades that don't help at all. Perfect. I got all 4 endings and also what I consider the true ending of getting a bunch of really cool hats.temp.png

Summoner's Paradise by poboy 2024-04-20T04:10:31Z

@poboy yeah if the secret ending brings the total number of endings to 4 then I got the secret ending. The screenshots gave me the clue I needed to get it ;) The hat tower brought me great joy too

Capture the King by ZEN 2024-04-23T08:16:00Z

Had a lot of fun with this one. At first I played strategically to set up forks before the battle even started, but you can't really control pieces so I just started messing around after the first couple levels. I won a few by just spamming pawns but eventually something got behind the pawn line and I couldn't do anything. This strategy would definitely be a lot more powerful if pawns could promote. A chess auto battler is an interesting combo though. I think you could be on to something and the idea could definitely be expanded upon. As for criticisms, I don't have much. I think the art could be improved a bit, some of the pieces look wonky, and also the AI is a bit weird sometimes, but that can understandably be difficult, and maybe it being unpredictable adds some strategy. Also related, the kings never move, which is a bit odd.

Inner Workings by T C 2024-04-17T21:54:31Z

The music track is a bit short. Got a bit repetitive after a while lol. Cool game though, I liked the cutscene at the end. I think the potions could be reworked. Maybe just have the player slowly regain mana over time. Also the clock tower seemed confusing, maybe it was unfinished, idk. It didn't seem to aim. The puzzle at the end was neat, I think more puzzle mechanics throughout would be cool if this ended up being something you developed further, but just the one makes sense for a jam.

Tremblewood by Hawkin 2024-04-17T21:25:31Z

Had a good time with this one. Picking up the drops from all the enemies was super satisfying. And at one point I spammed a bunch of goblins and they went on a rampage. Very fun. There's a few issues with the default volume level, it should be a bit louder, but it's not game-ruining by any means.

Fauxmancia by Javid Ladhani 2024-04-18T22:17:09Z

That was a fun experience! I panicked a bit because I used a spider for the first assignment, and it disappeared after, but I was able to use a goat to summon the kraken. There's a lot of detail put into the scene for a 72 hour jam game, which really makes it feel complete. The only thing missing is a "quit game" button because after i finished i had to alt+f4 to get out of it lol

Skelly the Braven't by StormSword 2024-04-28T22:31:52Z

That was a cute game. I got all the way to the skeleton king and then got sucked into a summoning circle and was like "No! I lost :(" but then I respawned and it was fine. Glad for that. My final time was 4:34. Not breaking any records probably. The animation and sound effect when you win is pretty funny too.

The In Between by Adam Gallina 2024-04-17T18:14:16Z

Solid game with a fun take on the prompt. It gets very chaotic which works thematically.

The subtle and constant zoom out is great. You don't notice it until way later and you're like "where did this empty space come from?"

I think the portals might be a bit overpowered though because I can just put any portal right from the entrance to the exit. Maybe some restrictions like making them only go in a straight line, or making it so you only get a certain number would make it more balanced, because I found myself just using those 95% of the time.

Also could go with some visual indication where I'm about to die, because I heard the sound of the exit portal and I could just not find it until I died and I'm like "oh there it is". Items colliding and destroying each other could use a visual indicator too, it was hard to find where my things were colliding. My final high score was 1363

temp.png

The In Between by Adam Gallina 2024-04-17T18:22:26Z

also an afterthought: If there's portals in the in-between, do those portals have their own in-between? With yet another person sending things from one end to the other? Funny thought.

Mage Summoner on Royal Duel by TentacleDream 2024-04-28T21:44:10Z

I liked the mechanics of dragging stuff onto a summoning circle to summon things. I think it could be made a little easier though. Rather than having to flip through the book all the time, there could be a separate menu that has all the summoning circles and runes always ready to drag onto the field. I also thought the art and animations were super cool.

Where Have All the Globbletops Gone? by redoplus 2024-04-28T23:49:16Z

This game had a lot of stuff to explore! Really fun collect-a-thon that felt sort of reminiscent of old flash games. I loved the art, sound, everything. The Dr.Seuss inspiration is nice and the Globbletops are horrifying. Love it. My only complaint is that it only very loosely qualifies for the theme of "summoning". Also actually I never figured out what the items on the floor did. Maybe they did something and I didn't realize or there was an easter egg? Not sure. I got all the Globbletops though and that neding was very chilling. Probably the best jam game I've played so far this jam.

Poisonous Pact by Stefan Funke 2024-04-18T22:28:13Z

That was fun. It was tough reading the instructions without getting caught but I figured I could just read one ingredient at a time and I managed to win without getting zapped once! Clearly a lot of effort was put into the art, with all the things around the room. It was also a good challenge with the wizard occasionally asking for things I had to find. Really solid jam game.

Summoning Master by JamesW 2024-04-17T22:23:57Z

Tough game. I made it to the final level but got a bad hand and the boss killed me instantly. Fun deck builder! Maybe there could be more options for building up the deck, like 2 cards per level instead of 1? Also the mana card seems to be bugged. I had the one that gives 4 for a cost of 1, but I used it when I had 1 mana and I only had 3 after using it.

Summoning Master by JamesW 2024-04-18T01:24:13Z

@jamesw i think generally it's fine to make tweaks to the game after the deadline for the jam. I see people fix bugs in their jam games all the time. I've done it too.

The great goal by jaroslav2324 2024-04-17T21:32:55Z

I only speak English so I wasn't able to figure out the game too much. I managed to send a squirrel somewhere and I watched it walk to the location and back, but then the game crashed. I did enjoy the art though, so I will rate that.

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-16T00:59:19Z

@lightningst I just tried it in Firefox, I'm getting that problem too. Not sure what the cause would be. It works fine on Chrome though if you don't mind switching browsers.

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-18T02:34:40Z

@merijn-schaap The speed of essence production is supposed to take longer over time. I made a mistake though so it was going fast for the first minute and then slow afterwards. That's fixed now.

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-18T22:20:32Z

@comigor thanks! Visual representation for successful and failed summons are something I wanted to add, but ran out of time.

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-19T07:55:06Z

@adam-gallina I've had a lot of ideas for expanding and improving it so I probably will keep developing this, so stay tuned!!

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-22T21:48:31Z

@blorengerhymes thanks for the feedback! There were actually going to be two more types (reptile and mammal) but I realized that would be 162 combinations as opposed to the 56 that I ended up with, so they got cut as I started coming up with all the creatures. (That's why there's blank space for 2 more essences in the menu lol). Also a completion menu is planned for later versions.

As for the embed, you should be able to use the scrollbars and go into full screen to fix the cropping.

Also congrats on making it so far, I'm glad you enjoyed!

Grid Land by TheMixedMaster 2024-04-22T21:49:42Z

@jamesw Yeah I agree about moving them being a bit hard to move. I think later I'll make it so hold-clicking on a creature puts it into moving mode. That should hopefully make it easier. Thanks for playing!

Cat Wizard by Lily Hubbard 2024-04-18T01:17:41Z

It was fun to explore the map, but the combos for the key items were too tricky for me. The only one I managed to figure out was the yarn ball. I even copied the other boss's movement patterns exactly and it did not work. The art is great though, I like the effect you did, and I have no idea how it was done.

Brew Mages by BumBum 2024-04-29T00:00:13Z

The balancing could be a bit better. I wasn't really sure what was supposed to be happening. The enemies would win every time on level 1 no matter how quickly I summoned and buffed my units. Maybe I could try more stuff, but it's hard to analyze what exactly went wrong. I think it could definitely be fun with some tweaks so maybe the earlier levels are easier. Also unrelated to the game but the devs having usernames bambam, bumbum, and bimbim is a really funny bit, I love that.

Demon Business by Dagunov 2024-04-23T06:57:20Z

Wow the mechanics here were really interesting. At first I thought it would be helping your dad out and I was like "this is easy" but that was just the tutorial. It's cool how expansive everything is. I like the flavor added to all the emails. One of the more fun jam games I've played this time. I think the sticky notes are cool, but there could be a more intuitive way for the player to reference what everything does, or maybe a way to make my own notes. I guess I could just write stuff down irl but i feel it should be in-game. Other than that I feel like the demons could also have unique art based on their abilities. That could be cool, but understandable for a quick jam game. Also sounds or a background track would be cool.

That was a neat game. I liked the particle effects when putting an artifact on a pedestal. Very satisfying. The levels could use more variation and also the player should maybe be forced to fight the monsters in some way. I just found myself walking around everything to get things. The game also lagged a bit and all the levels felt the same. The art during the opening cutscene was nice to look at.

That was a blast. The mechanics were simple and intuitive, and there was a combo-based summoning system I didn't have to memorize or check another menu for. That's something a lot of other games I've seen have done. It was enjoyable collecting all the chests around the map to get stronger and the controls were really smooth. The final boss one-shot me though which was sad and I had to start over. I did beat it in the end though. Maybe having the player heal over time would be nice.
