This is a cool idea. I hope you make more levels. Though I died a lot in the second level :))

This is a cool idea. I hope you make more levels. Though I died a lot in the second level :))
I really suspected that it might be difficult in the second phase. I'll balance it out. Yes, I will make more levels, add sound, etc soon. Thanks for testing
I like the concept. Would be cool if expanded to more levels. Although I think in a full game the rooms might need to be bigger to allow you to fit more stuff. It might not fit the theme as well, but if you work on it after the jam, the theme isn't as important. Also I think it would be more convenient if the player started each level at full energy.
I think difficulty is just fine, you could improve the art in the back but otherwise idea is cool
not sure if there was a restart button, I was unable to find one, had to keep refreshing the page until I finally realized what you had to do to complete the first level
An interesting idea. It took me a few tries to complete the second level, but overall, I liked the concept.
Good idea, love the art style, simple colors yet good match.
( @themixedmaster ) - I'm really glad you liked the concept. I'm tempted to believe that small rooms would be possible even with more levels. I end up getting lost in large levels when doing the levels, this way I would be more successful in finishing a greater number of levels, I believe, despite knowing that it would be challenging to innovate in many rooms despite the reduced space. I thought it would fit the theme because of the limited space, but maybe the space isn't as limited as I thought. Energy always starts at maximum, but always uses up when it flies. But it will require some type of extra energy or mechanism that allows it to go further by flying less or more energy, something to think about. Thanks for testing.
( @greenpig ) - Yes yes, how I wish I had worked on the art and sound effects, because that is what will set the tone for this game. I always fail at jams because I start with the chart, but here I left it until the end and there was no time. So this graphic is textures made on the spot in the engine itself, except for the character and some details. I also have a climate randomization system ready like fog, etc., but I didn't have time to implement it. I'll be happy to work on it and post it when the jam is over. Thanks for the feedback.
( @inventivum-games ) There really wasn't time to add any buttons, any menus or anything, just updating the page lol. I really need to add something that makes it visually clear that you should enter the right tunnel. Maybe a blinking light inside, something. Thanks for the feedback.
( @maryk ) I'm really happy that you liked the idea and concept. I discovered that limited games like this are fun to make. I end up getting lost in long stages. Yes, in general from the feedback it is already very difficult in the second phase. Maybe not that difficult, but still difficult. You need to go slower in the progression of difficulty. Thanks for the feedback.
Its actually pretty cool :D
Hey, I like the concept and the simple but in my opinion fitting game you created - there certainly is a limitation to how long you can press "space" :D I did not end up getting stuck anywhere and managed to fly out of the first level even after landing on the floor. So I think the first two stages are good introductory levels that can teach about the energy system, but do not provide too much difficulty themselves. Expanding on this idea would certainly make for a cool game :)
( @philocode ) , You are sure. The first two levels are introductory, but there wasn't time to really do the others lol. The first level would just be to introduce the mechanics and flight, and the second learn about the power wires and how much you have to manage that. But the cool thing about game jams is that, the feedback. Because some found the second phase very difficult, while you found it easy. So a middle ground would be needed in the second phase. I intend to continue with this project.
Idea is there, game could be fun with some work. I like concept art, could replace graphics with that style
I love the hand drawn picture that shows your design process, it looks really cool. The energy bar was interesting, I guess it is a mechanic fly :D I don't think 2nd level is too hard. Sure, I didn't get it on 1st try, but you just have to get used to the controls a bit. If you continue working on this game, you could implement different difficulty levels.
( @kanity ) Yes, it's true, I draw almost everything on the page with pencil or pen and scan it to work as graphics. I also draft a lot, the sheet of paper is so quick lol. I didn't think of the fly being mechanical, but rather having spent energy. But I found your observation interesting, who knows it is an experiment mixing biological and mechanical. For some more casual and less hardcore players, it seems like the second level was a lot of work, so I would still move it just a little bit. Yes, due to this general positive feedback, I will create other levels. I intend to have a well-crafted graphic and very well-matched sounds. I'm already doing this, but I can't post it until after the jam. Thanks for the feedback
Cool concept. It´s a good idea to have energy drain and to make movement a sparse resource. As someone said, I hopa you make more levels. Thanks for making it.
the vid helped me really appreciate how much time and effort you put into this, and it turned out to be a cool concept. would love to see more levels and mechanics.
(@henrik-ganard) Yes, I needed to cause some difficulty to get to the other side. Energy being drained was an option. Yes, I'm getting excited by the feedback and really inspiring myself to take more levels. Initially I thought of something much more realistic, with the same proportion of small but realistic space. And I thought the sounds were very atmospheric and also realistic. But there wasn't time.
(@benisu),Man, it's cool that you could watch the video, that's fascinating.
I really like the flying animation, made it feel like a real fly. Too bad you didn't have time to add more levels or sounds.
(@ttkayttis) Yeah, I'm working on it so I can post an update after the jam.
The idea is very fun (the fly is literally disguting, like a conglomeration of flesh, it's awesome) and managing a battery that drains so quickly is very interesting! Oddly, my screen went all black after the second level, might be a bug or something
interesting idea. I would like it if the energy was fulfilled the moment I die. I hope you make more levels
This game is a really cool tech-demo type project. I just want to start by saying I love the art style. It's so grungy and grimy and feels soo post apocalypticly sci-fi. It reminded me of a game I played called The White Chamber.
I'm unsure what your future vision is for this, exactly, I think it could be a really cool puzzle platformer type thing, but what I think it should have, no matter what you decide to do with it, is some kind of balance between walking and flying. I think having the flying be a limited resource is a great idea! Although I think it can be tweaked just a tiny bit, as it feels really heavy right now. In return, walking should be much faster, and energy gain should also be a bit faster, just so that the player doesn't have to spend a whole lot of time waiting for it to refill. Finally, in regards to the lightning chain things, I think it should be lit-up all the time if you want it to stay as a constant threat. I worry that if you have it flash like that, it could convey to the player that when it's not lit-up, it's safe to touch, as that's usually how that mechanic works in games.
This game is incredibly unique though, I really think you nailed the visual aesthetic and feeling of it!
( @babaorhum ) About the bug being disgusting, yes, that's what I've been doing. whenever I try to do something cute or colorful and such I fail and suffer. Even my most childish characters are still crazy. Lots of horror movies when I was a kid...
(@skel3ton@skel3ton) You are very right about this, the anergy should start full. That was stupid lol, but I didn't even realize it. It really is something urgent to fix. Thanks for testing.
(@viktorthegreat) your review couldn't be more right on everything and I'm really going to take everything you said into consideration because it's so right. The graphic is actually exactly what you said, a dirty dystopian thing. The graphic was supposed to be hand-drawn but much more realistic. I didn't have time to implement what I'm best at, which is the graph. But whenever I started with the graph I ended up not being able to deliver it because the programming took a lot of time, since I'm not a programmer and I struggle at this point. The energy is really slow to recharge, it needs to start full, and the insect needs to move faster. As for the energy, you're right, it's better for it to stay lit somehow, I just wanted it to randomly have energy spikes, that would make it more realistic, but it needs to always be lit somehow and have more lit spikes, I think that would be it. I'm really happy that I think the visual aesthetic is unique, because that's always my main goal in a game, the visual aesthetic. And of course, we need gameplay. You helped me a lot here, thank you very much.
I got past the first two rounds pretty easily but the third one was a black screen. Pretty nice concept tho!
( @blue-pin-studio ) Ah yes, now I understand what they said before about the black screen lol. It's actually the end of the game, it ends in phase 2. There wasn't time after the end to add to close the browser. I must fix this these days. Interesting about how easy it was, others didn't find it so easy. It's good to know it's not that difficult. But there is a lack of balance. Lots of tests...
The game was a bit to easy. Just tap the up arrow from you exit the tube and go straight through in both levels. No challenge at all.
congrats on finishing your first project in the Jam category!
I was confused at the start since I thought I had to fly up at the end of the stage, but this is not possible. That got me in a situation where I had to restart the game to be able to try again. I also noticed I had to wait at the start of the next stage for my energy to get back, as I had to do when dying to the electricity.
I like the idea, it could use some more work to really get it going ofcourse. Though, you said already so yourself. My comment is quite duplicate but I like to always leave a comment.
Great work though for the JAM!
Feels like old flash games I played in the past, very nice. The third level did not load for me though. I only had a black screen
The concept and mechanics seem good. Just need to add more levels to expand the gameplay. Otherwise it will be a really good game.
I think the fly falls too fast but I'm excited to see you make more levels
I must be missing something. The fly does not have enough energy when I play to reach the exit pipe of the first level / room. Neither by flying directly over towards it holding right button and up, nor by landing on the floor and resting up and then trying to get the right elevation. Also doesn't work to let up go intermittently while flying forward. And there seems to be no reset of the levels so I have to reload the game fully to retry.
I like the games mood and visuals. The gameplay is simple and fun. I will say the game could have used a bit more gameplay, and perhaps a bit more levels. But overall an okay little jam game.
Player-2.gif ( @ranzor ) Yes, this time I wanted to be very simple, just directional arrows. As for no challenge, the two introductory phases are really just to introduce, but some users didn't find it so easy, that's interesting, the diversity of feelings. I myself have trouble getting past those wires and I know I need to make it a little easier. But I'm not a hardcore gamer, so you must be very hardcore. In this case it should be pretty easy. But I must balance it better so that it becomes a little easier at the beginning for players like me, and increase the difficulty progressively until it becomes a real challenge for more experienced players. Thanks for testing.
(@walaber) Thanks for testing.
( @ayxs ) I really don't understand about not being able to fly at the end of the stage, I would like to understand. You can fly at any time. Yes, the energy not starting full is a serious error that needs to be fixed. Yes, it's always good to comment, I also leave a comment on everyone I play, even if I'm too tired to write lol. I believe it could become a fun little game if worked properly. Thanks for testing.
( @javid-ladhani ) Yeah, there's no third level lol. I just didn't have time to close the browser after a sentence of thanks and the end. Thanks for testing.
(@jamesw) Yes, I had thought of 15 or 20 levels. I wouldn't try more than 20, due to the fact that I plan to add very good graphics and very realistic sounds as well. My idea is to always have this square room, but changing the traps and various elements in the new rooms, so that they appear to be different rooms, although they are the same. This will help me with the scope so it doesn't get too big. I have difficulty with small scopes, I tend to enlarge things lol. Thanks for testing.
( @verttixpertti@verttixpertti) ) Thanks for wanting more levels. Yes, I really wanted her to fall quickly. I worked to make it actually fall, trying to simulate the realistic weight of an insect that size. I didn't want it to fall like a butterfly. Even a little bird falls very quickly. But this is an ok game. I wanted it to fall down suddenly when the power went out because it's heavy. So this will have to be taken into consideration. I can get around this by increasing the energy time, because this is really very small and runs out very quickly, making it annoying. Thanks for testing.
(@local-minimum@local-minimum) You're definitely missing something, based on all the previous comments. Some even found it too easy, but in general, in the second level you have to make some effort. So I don't know what could have happened to you lol. There is no need to restart the level, if you die you already start there, and as in the first phase there is no way for you to die, you will always be there until you pass. But there really wasn't time to put in reboot features. It's actually a very basic prototype. Thanks for testing.
( @jk5000@jk5000) ) If you tell me it's fun at this very basic stage where there's practically nothing, you've already said it all and I'm really interested in adding more levels and straightening everything out. The plan would be to have 15 or 20 stages, very good hand-drawn graphics and great sound variety. I also intend to have a lot of effects like fog, sparks and all kinds of visual appeal to make a futuristic setting really immersive. I always like to play with these climate randomness and effects, so I have a lot of these systems ready, I just didn't have time to add them. The easiest of them, which is a fog on the ground, is so quick to add and I already have it ready, that it was sad I didn't have time. It could have been much better, but yes, I think everyone is going through the same issue lol, that we don't have time to add everything we want. But there's really a lot missing here lol. Thanks for testing. Player-2.gif
On level 1 I just end up on the floor, nothing kills me, nothing happens, there's no way to get up to the exit pipe.
(@local-minimum) you have to hold the up arrow for the character to start flying. Flying you can enter the passage on the left. I just tested it right now just to make sure lol. The game is already too short and almost everything is missing, if at least it couldn't even get past the first phase it would be too much lol. You don't even need to get down and step on the ground, you can fly straight from one tube to the other. Thanks for your time.
The slow energy regen made sense while I was in the air and falling, but it felt like I had to wait for it a frustratingly long time when I was on the ground. Maybe those 2 situations could have different recovery rates? Nothing too unconventional here, but I will say that the fly looks fantastic. Thanks!
Nice idea! Love the graphics, and its very funny! Good job!
(@jason-shapiro) man, your observation is fantastic, you are absolutely right. Couldn't be more right. That's the magic of ludum dare, feedback helps a lot. I also really feel uncomfortable waiting for the energy to come through when I'm on the ground. So it's obvious that she should see faster when she's on the ground. This is something I can fix in this version of the jam because it's like a bug, just changing something in the code. So I'll fix it. Thank you very much, this will balance things out a lot. / In fact, you're so right that I just fixed it right now, now energy recovers faster on the ground than in the air, as it should be. Thank you very much for the valuable tip.
(@daniel-g) I'm glad you liked it.
Have you heard of insect politics?
I think it was a little difficult to get through the first level because I thought you could reach the right tunnel by holding space but I always ran out of energy. Having a restart button would be nice but I also understand the lack of time for a solo project. For the second level I think it was easy enough to understand that the electric wires will kill you so I think you could up the challenge by placing the wires closer to the middle, it'll also make the theme of limited space more obvious :D Great start for a solo run!
( @okshirl ) you can actually fly straight from one tunnel to another in the first level, I did that and others did too, although I think you have to release the button for milliseconds. I just use the up arrow instead of space, I think space is not a better button, although I also gave this option, in addition to W and up arrow. / Yes reboot. I guess I thought that since there were only two phases, it wouldn't be necessary, since in the first one there's no way to die, and in the second one, if you die, you automatically start in the tunnel. But yes, after the jam ends I will add more phases and then you will have the ability to reset, pause, etc.
I like the concept that you limit the flying function and the graphic is quite cool! I think the framework has nice potential(it seems that you are up to add some mechanism and traps like the fans, I think they can be made up into some good puzzles) but the current version is just flying straight to the end lol. Still quite impressive as a first solo jam run! Good job!
@nanamaki@nanamaki yes this version is very easy lol. Although I myself don't think the second level is so simple that I occasionally fall into the live wire lol.
Just to show you in case it helps.
Holding right and up pressed from the pipe until power runs out: theboxfly-frompipe.gif
Trying to get enough elevation by holding up pressed after landed on the floor until power runs out: theboxfly-bottom.gif
Tested both in Firefox and Chrome and tried playing in fullscreen as well as original size.
Well, you sure gave me what you promised in the post, that was quick :D
Definitely could've benefited from more levels, as you can sort of see the potential already there. Controls are simple enough and idea is immediately understandable, for that you can be commended :D
Cheers on making something playable! Liked the graphics too :)
@local-minimum I was going to record a gif here but I don't think it's necessary. I just tested it and it seems like it's only happening there. I'm using Delta Time so it should be the same on all computers at all frame rates. In the air, you must release your energy for a few moments so that you can fly straight to the other side. But the worst thing is that you're on the ground next to the tube and you can't climb high enough to get into it, it's really strange. Maybe something is really going on, but since no one else has complained about this, I don't know if it's isolated. By how much I don't know.
@hunttis@hunttis, I was really happy to get something simple and functional. I definitely need more levels, thanks for testing
Nice game. The graphics are quite sophisticated. It's definitely really short which is a bit unfortunate, but overall not bad for a first jam. Good job!
I thought the game crashed after beating the second level lol. Still though, despite the simplicity, this is a rather interesting project. the fly and room are really well designed and the limited energy meter is a good way of adding in some challenge.
if I may offer one piece of criticism,, I at first thought that the electric fence was only deadly when the electric animation was playing, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Adding that in could be a good way to add more levels and challenge as the player could only rest on electrified panels briefly before they get turned back on
Simplistic but interesting. I really would've liked to see more levels and variety, but as a start this is pretty solid. I wish I could say more, but the game seems to be really short at the moment.
( @bluedandelion ) Thanks for testing, yes it's a shame it only has two phases, I couldn't imagine less than 5 at least, but unfortunately it was that or nothing lol. In fact, I had given it up as lost and I was so frustrated because I was always fighting at the jams, but then miraculously I opened a page and saw that there were still a few minutes left, because there's an hour of additions, and I didn't know. Look how much feedback I would have missed. To think that the graphics are 10% of what I could actually do. Even the character is just a hand drawn sketch and colored in photoshop, nothing more. I wanted a really realistic hand-drawn graphic, but I couldn't implement it in time. I'm immensely happy that this same simple graphic managed to convey the type of look that I really imagine for this game.
( @justking144 ) In fact, another player warned the same thing, that the fence should always be on, and you even went further, saying that it could actually be turned off. You guys are right. This is even the kind of thing that I can fix in the jam, it's like a bug like others that have already fixed thanks to the feedback, which were annoying things. So I'm going to leave it on permanently for the first time. / While you're at it, I just complained just now, and it's permanently lit. The challenge was not to make the noise of the electricity annoying, I added randomness every few seconds and also varied the sound of the electricity. But I still find the effect of electricity always lit exaggerated, so after a jam I will have a more realistic one. I want something more discreet, but that makes it clear that it is deadly, and that from time to time ignites these energies. But for now I'll leave it straight as it is. Thanks.
(@real-flamingicecubegames) Yes very short. But because of all the positive feedback about how cool it would be to have more levels, I'm going to make them. Not only the levels, but it has the kind of atmosphere that I really wanted: good graphics, futuristic visual effects like machine terminals lighting up, smoke, etc., realistic sounds, animation of the character walking, etc.
The art style is has some really cool vibes.
There's are some interesting pieces here that I imagine you had further plans for but just didn't make it time wise. It's a bit of a shame, but that's the nature of game jams.
Now that the jam is over, it might be worth just taking some time to casually poke it and see what you can come up with that moves the design forward. It's a good exercise for future jams, though I imagine you already learned a lot from this one.
In any event, I look forward to your future entries, I see a lot of promise here.
Is it really just two levels? :( But well done!
Even though it was only two levels, I am interested in seeing a game developed in this kind of setting. A fly in a testing facility feels like it has got some potential! Good job!
@fireslash @2thegamechanger @gamedevjeroen Yes, I learned a lot here, I had a lot in mind, but I'm already working on the bigger version of the game, keeping this same scope, this same room with the insect. The idea is to keep the space tight and make it really challenging, but without being too difficult, I don't want to make a hardcore game, nor a cute game. I want a realistic platform game that is graphically differentiated and has varied sounds. Something simple, direct and even somewhat short. No more than 20 or 15 phases.
your idea has a lot of potential, but the levels are too simple, I understand that you wouldn't have time for more, but maybe a single more complete level could have been a good solution too. Better quality than quantity, these two levels are very good as tutorials, but it feels like the main level of the game would be missing after learning how to fly and what not to crash into.
I like the idea, really simple and good use of theme.
well done! Take a candy! :candy:
@hagamosvideojuegos you're completely right and the main level beyond these two introductory ones, where we would actually have something, just didn't happen lol. So, we only have one concept to be expanded upon after the jam. Thanks for testing.
Tried to fly across on the first level, the energy runs out like @local-minimum has shown. Try to fly up from the bottom next to the [door/pipe]? thing and it runs out of energy like @local-minimum has shown. Not sure what to do.
@commanderstitch @local-minimum I'm suspicious of a bug related to frame rate in isolated cases, but I don't know how because I used delta time which gives the same frame rate in all cases. So I'm still trying to understand why this happened again, so I'm going to look into it now, since it happened more than once then. Thanks.
It didn't take long to beat once I got the knack of it. As short as it was I actually really liked the art style, very fitting for the setting, with some more sound effects I think the atmosphere here would be pretty great, nice work here :)
Hey, I can confirm the same issue as @local-minimum and others - thought I was crazy seeing all these comments of people talking about later levels when level 1 felt truly impossible. I like the idea and presentation a lot - but you do seem to have a .... bug.... there.
wow.., :scream_cat: the concept is really cool and catchy and good use of the energy meter aswell. After level2, i got to 'congratulations' screen. And i was like that's it ? Wishing for more level and with sounds/music aswell. Enjoyed playing it. :whale:
@juicybrucey yes it really is very short, like just a sample of what it will be. Thanks for testing. I'm working on the next phases, new graphics, sound, effects, and everything.
@lachlan-james thanks for testing. From the gif that @local-minimum posted, it really helped me a lot, because I could see that probably due to the slowness at which the wing is moving, it's a frame rate problem, so I'm working on it right now and as soon as I post it fixed, I'll get it fixed. Let us know and ask again for part of your time to check if it's ok this time. Thank you very much. I really can't help but resolve this issue quickly.
@smiley405 I'm glad you liked the concept, look and energy meter. Yes, the plan was to have more levels, sounds and graphics. I'm working on it. thanks for testing
Hi @lincolnsalles - not a problem at all, happy to test again - just tag me here when you get a build out where you think it might be sorted.
This game's just abuzz with feedback, I love it! Congrats on your first entry in the jam category! Your Itch page is decked out, and I like that you included the concept art - planning games is super important and it seems you know that already. The fly sprite is super detailed, well done on making it realistic enough to make my skin crawl while also having things stay readable. I hesitated at the start for a bit because I couldn't see the fly before noticing it was behind the dark tube on the left. Consider adding an outline or lightening that tube so the fly stands out more. Good concept and good job getting something done and uploaded on time!
@cardboardmoon You're right about the fly appearing hidden at first, I'll use your suggestion and improve it, make it stand out. I had thought about the camera starting focused on the tube and only when the insect comes out will the camera move away, but I'm not sure yet. Thank you for testing and enjoying the art.
@local-minimum first of all, thank you for posting a gif, it helped me a lot to understand that it was almost certainly a frame rate problem. So I straightened it out and ran tests. I have already uploaded the corrected version and I would like to ask you who reported this bug to please test it again, it would help me immensely, and tell me if it is ok now, if it is possible to fly correctly to complete the level. @commanderstitch @lachlan-james
If you tell me it's fixed, I'll update it at the beginning with this bug fix. Thank you very much in advance.
Hi, Construct 3 user here. I really like your game. The hand-drawn fly is cool, and I also appreciate the design of the banners in your texts.
WARNING: It stopped when completing level 2; please look into it :)
@senso@senso only goes up to level 2, my initial intention was at least 5 levels for the jam, but I ended up staying on the two introductory ones. It was that or nothing lol. I appreciate that you and others liked this insect that is still in such a raw design phase, so I can encourage myself to do even better, because the graphic would really be much better if there was time, with animations of walking moving legs, etc. ., and sounds too. I believe that even before the jam ends I will be able to post a post-jam version for you to see. Thanks for testing
Ah, those are the two phases you mentioned in your intro. I saw that you plan to have more levels in the design papers, which is why I mentioned it.
Yay, now it worked and I don't feel silly for not being able to fly better  I really liked the fly and it's animations. Though not really working with the theme, I think the mechanics of the controls might have been more exciting if you had to fly longer distances with intermittent falling / resting while avoiding electrocution and other fly traps.
Great demo! lol i'm a bug 5ff72.gif
@local-minimum thanks for testing again, good to know it's working. Very relieved, it was a fatal bug. Maybe I can increase the energy a little, but maybe not because I really want the bug to not be able to fly straight every time, I want it to be forced to touch down and recharge. The theme will actually be better explored in the other phases, because the rooms will be increasingly tighter.
@cheesepencil thanks
jams are a great way to learn about scoping a game :P
@knexator said everythinh
The main character is adorable! 😁
The game is so short that it's difficult to leave proper feedback, but I liked the art and didn't encounter any issues. Good job!
@woona I'm glad you liked the character. I didn't even have time to encourage him by walking. I really only started on the last day, but to my surprise something came out. I will continue the game.
Actually, the art is interesting, this style could work, maybe change the fly a bit. The gameplay is too simple, im not sure what to suggest to make it better, I think the fly should be smaller, it's too big for any other obstacles to be placed. Anyway good work.
@digitaldude555 yes, I consider the insect graphic to be provisional, like everything else. I didn't have time to turn the sketches into graphics like I wanted. The drawings themselves are drafts. The insect is too big to have little space, I planned little space and even less space depending on the theme, and I intend to maintain it. The idea I'm planning is that each room will have traps and you should just try to get through. I want something very simple, but very well done graphically and sonically, but with hand-drawn graphics. When I have some phases I will post them here.
Hi @lincolnsalles - took me awhile to get back, but yep, fixed for me too. Nice work on the fix - what an interesting bug...
Very short game, seems like there's plenty of space to me in that box though. Having more levels to flesh out the idea and mechanics would be cool.
@lachlan-james thanks @cdunham yes I'm working on it, thanks for testing
Truthfully, you've left me with a hugely pleasant taste in my mouth! This game looks downright fantastic! Although the mechanics seem simple, the theme with the fly truly brings a lot to the table. The graphics and mood are spectacular! I would have loved even just ten levels with progressive difficulty; a little more and it would be a well-rounded game! I genuinely loved the concept. I insist, I was left wanting more. Great attempt, and I hope to enjoy more levels or another game from you in the future!
@milq comments like this encourage me even more to finish this project. If everything goes as I hope, you will play it completely, or at least try out more levels, but with the graphics, sounds and everything in an improved version.

Wow, and I thought my game was short. I'm playing. Seriously, this looks like the start to a kick-ass game that I can't wait to play!
Yes, very short indeed, if someone thinks they sent a short game then they should come here lol. I think you gave me an idea for a post lol. I am very motivated by these comments to really continue with this game, which will be posted here for those of you who asked for it. Thanks for playing.
Same as @killerb  Cool tiny game! The animation on the fly is excellent. Keep it up :)
Fun little game with only two levels - a short entry, but not the least. I had fun playing. The fly is just ugly - really disgusting. The feeling is well done. The electric sparks are bluffing too. Sometimes there is a bug with the colliders - and the energy does not increase when the fly is on the ground. The main mechanics could be improved, but for a jam entry done in less than 3 days, it's good enough. Thank you ++
@najjaman @geckoo1337 Thanks for testing
This has to be the shortest game I've played so far, but that doesn't mean it's a badly done game, it's a great game I have to say. I really like the graphics and your art style, especially the fly, it looks exactly like how I imagine the real fly would look like close-up, so nicely done there! Sadly, there's no other sound apart from the electric sounds of the wires, but they sound pretty good for me! The second level doesn't look as simple as it seems, I did die a few times before making it to the end, which really interests me in what mechanics and ideas you could come up with on future levels.
I didn't encounter any major issues during the playthrough, the controls were simple and straightforward. But after a couple times replaying the game, I noticed that the energy wouldn't be regenerating as long as I kept holding down the "fly" key. It was a small issue but I think having the energy begun regenerating as soon as the insect touched the ground would be more appropriate, because it informs the player that they need to land to regenerate the energy first before being able to fly again.
Overall, it's a really nice entry, and it's also the first entry I've came across that was built using Construct 3. It's short and simple but the effort definitely goes in the opposite, and I totally appreciate that, well done!
@constance I really hadn't realized that the energy doesn't recover if the fly button is pressed, even when it's on the ground. You are absolutely right, and you helped me a lot with that observation. I really need to fix this urgently. Your comment overall helps me a lot, because all these comments make my idea of finishing this make sense. My idea is a much better graphic than this, even the insect is a sketch drawing and could be better, the animated legs walking etc. I didn't have time to draw the scenery, so I turned to transform the sketch into something, I used geometric shapes from the construct itself and placed any sprite I made on the spot that was repeated on the walls. Even the power cables are simple shapes drawn on the tool itself, all very rough if seen up close, but following the sketch you may have seen on the page, a handmade drawing, it looks better than it really is. So, it could have been better graphically and sonically. My plan is for 15 to 20 phases, always in the same size, adding more traps, implementing the final hand-drawn graphic, more worked insect with animations walking, crouching, preparing to fly, etc. No savings when it comes to animation and drawn graphics. Everything can be designed and edited and worked on. Lots of smoke, sounds of mechanical elements, lights, a lively scene of sounds and graphics. Nothing amazing, but better than what's out there. I thought of a timer running with some time for the insect to resolve the trap and get through, otherwise it might explode or something would happen with certain death. The voltage level must always be high. But I thought that whenever the insect is in the tube at the beginning of each level it is free to think and look at part of the level, I intend to add a camera zoom to the tube so that it is centered on the tube and not on the level, so that see only part of the room. When leaving the tube, the door will close and you will not be able to enter again. At that moment the timer will start and the traps will turn on, and the door on the right tube will open. You need to get to the right tube avoiding the traps. All kinds of sounds like doors closing, traps, things happening, very rich sonically. That's what I intend. Also some blood but not red, maybe black blood in death or something like that, torn apart, varied deaths with varied animations, no economy. As soon as I update I will post it here. And beyond that, think of more things for these 15 or 20 phases that keep things simple and interesting. Ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thanks for testing.
The game's mood and visuals are really good. I'd love to see more levels, but this is ok for little game jams and I tend to reward simple yet solid prototypes. I would suggest to spare a little time in the future to introduce some audio, even minimal, because it can really make the difference.
Overall nice entry and good solo job!
Would have loved to play more levels.
This game could become a sort of Flappy Bird, with an alternance of stressful moments when you have to fly in difficult passages, and calm moments when you land to recover your energy. Maybe a sort of "Flappy-bird-MetroidVana" ?
It also reminds me of Bad Mojo, an old and weird game where you play a roach, wander in garbage, kill a spider by pushing a cigarette on it, etc.
Keep up the work !
@fiordarancio yes the audio would make a lot of difference for sure. I believe I will post a better version by the end of the jam, at some point in these 4 days, but I'm torn between updating the game or continuing to evaluate more games. It's difficult to do both. But yes, I will post the update here with more levels, graphics and sound, thanks for testing
@recher as for metroidvania it would be great, but I need to get away from that because I would really easily get lost in the scope. I really need to finish an entire game so I think this one looks great for that, because it's simple and the scope is small, although I plan on having lots of sound effects and hand-drawn graphics that cost time and effort, but definitely less than a metroidvania . I will continue the work, thanks for testing
Great artstyle but I wish there would have been more levels to explore level design possibilities, good job anyways!
The only negative I can note is that it is short, but that is probably something that is not too hard to fix for you. The artwork and the concept are fun, so let me know if you ever finish a longer version!
@hare-software @lastuck I'll definitely let you know as soon as I post more levels, and update the sound and visuals. Thank you very much for testing
bzzzzz bz bzz bz bzzz, cool game )XD
Very cool game. Wish there was more levels, I was just buzzzing up for more :)
I was secretly hoping someone would make a fly or mosquito type of game.
Hope you add more content in the future :)
Good Luck!
@kazuma thanks for testing. @empyreans Yes I will update it asap, thanks for testing
Nice concept !
The fly moved nicely, although it was a bit illogical to me that it falls at constant speed, quite fast, immediately as you stop pressing the space key (I think it should start falling very slowly, then increase in speed as time passes. It would make more sense to me.
The graphics were REALLY good, especially the fly, I can see you are a skilled artist. Did you draw then on a tablet, or did you draw them on paper and scan them ? The buzzing sound was nice as well.
I can see you had more levels planned, it's a shame you didn't have the time to make them before the deadline, I would've liked to play a fuller game (as for now it is only like 15 seconds long sadly).
Good luck on doing a full version, if you want to !
@myrmyxo Yes, I will do it as soon as possible. Yes, I draw on paper, I love drawing on paper, and then I scan it and edit it in Photoshop. It's very interesting that many liked it and I was happy because this was a draft that I hoped to improve, like animating the legs walking, that sort of thing. / It's not actually a fly, it's a big and heavy insect, that's why it falls like a stone, because it must weigh many kilos. It's like a big fat dog, it's really fat. It's a disgusting ball of meat with wings. I think it's the kind of thing that shouldn't be out there. I must add human elements to the scene so that the size of the insect is clear and it is not confused with a fly. I kept thinking that it is some kind of biological experiment that is in a testing mechanism, a large complex set of interspersed rooms that form a large mechanism, a complex that is a place for biological technological experiments. They do cloning and other things that nobody knows about, experiments, that kind of thing. They create things there, and then test them, they do many types of tests. The place is called Mechanizyn. They say some people have died there...
@lincolnsalles Oooh, I see, very interesting ! It makes way more sense as to why the """fly""" would fall like that. Nice lore also ! I wonder what else they clone in that laboratory lol... probably people and they turn them into "flies"
It's amazing , u cool bro 😎
Nice flappy birds approximation, but too short :(. Also, the fly looks like too heavy at fall, but it is also part of the challenge. I'd have liked to play more levels, nice entry!
@neowedge I definitely need to put some backstory on some of what it's about, but I avoided plot on the main page because no one at this point is going to read it anyway. I avoided long texts. But in the huge post above I explain a little that it's not a fly lol. It's a bug big enough like a big dog and heavy, so it drops like a stone. It must weigh more than 80 kilos. It's a biological experiment and it's in a futuristic mechanical testing chamber. But one thing is true: I made a publicity gif that is very small and shows the insect moving back and forth, and because it's so small it's like a fly... I have already updated the text at the top of the page.
Very short game and very limited space. Reminds me to some games with similar features. Glad to complete this game.
I like this idea and atmosphere. The fact that the energy is limited increase well the difficulty. In the second level, I felt a bit like playing flappy bird, but a bit differently with the fact that we have to manage the flying energy level. (Second level is already well difficult). I like the mood of this game. I didn't find any bugs. Well done. It's a good prototype. With more polish it can be really good.
@bloodbane thaks for play @matootsy Indeed, although some have said that even the second phase is very easy, it should be for hardcore players. Most have already found the second level more difficult. Based on this, I'm going to balance the second level just a little by making the electrocuted wire a little more to the right, there will be more space to fly into the tube, this should help, but not much, a subtle change. I'm preparing an update, if possible still in this jam. Thanks for testing.
Interesting concept. The energy seemed to drain a bit too fast: I'd only ever have enough to go directly to the next, there was no leeway for making a small mistake. Good effort.
Not sure if there was supposed to be more levels, after level 2 it kept saying Congratulations and wouldn't progress, which is a shame because I really dig this art style and the concept is really interesting. It controlled really well and the mood was fantastic. Love to see more that's for sure! ^-^
No idea why this posted twice haha.
@digital-bacon I really wanted to limit the energy a lot, but eventually in later levels I'll have to compensate for this in some way with platforms and other things, but I've probably found a balanced energy level, there's really no room for myth mistakes, it's kind of on the line. . I think about making it a little easier, but instead of moving the energy, moving the trap a little so that there's more space, I'm afraid to move the energy because it seems right on point. Some people cross from one side to the other without even touching the ground, and they said it's easy, while others found it difficult, so I can balance very little, it seems right. But I'm going to tweak the trap a little, it will be a little easier, the second phase could actually be a little easier.
@sinclairstrange Unfortunately, there are only these two levels for now, I really intend to update as soon as possible. I'm glad you liked the art style. When the jam is over I'll go back to your game more calmly too, I read about 100 levels, it's a very good game, one of those that you'll want to come back to after the jam. So I'm happy with your comment.
Cool art style, too bad there wernt more levels. Well done.
Very creepy and awful. It instills a sense of dread. The character dropping like a stone as it flaps its useless wings, while not super *fun* does instill a sense of being a cobbled together monster that I think you were going for.
It's very short, and wasn't particularly challenging for me, but based on the vibes and your drawings, I'm sure this could be something special if you keep working on it. You have a very interesting vision.
bzz-bzz!)
@jon-curtin @bassilij thanks for testing
@pen-island-games You're completely right, there's no challenge here for now, it was just a glimpse of something that I tried hard to not miss the jam this time. But who knew, it helped me have a piece of something that can be worked on. I really want a very tense atmosphere here. Thanks for testing.
Starting is the hardest part! ....Well, finishing is probably the hardest part, but starting is really hard too! This game already feels like a really unique vibe, I'm excited to see where you take it, should you continue after the jam :)
The concept of biological experimentation is an interesting base. However, as a game, it wasn't too fun to move as an insect through the rooms... The art makes me a bit uneasy too, I think maybe something more like Duke Nukem or Duke Nukem II would be more fitting, and a nice retro touch. I'm not actually sure it applies to the theme other than the rooms being small, which is not the base mechanic. Good luck in improving it!
@saramartins It's true, the topic was just the fact that the rooms were small and would get even smaller with the traps that would come next. Yes, that's right, the look really is more like doom or duke nuken, I made a sketch in the post on the main page with the new sketch and it's a drawing I believe with that vibe. I don't know if you saw it. It's really going to be uncomfortable and disgusting, that's not even 10% of the discomfort I want to make.
Nice concept and great art. Very grungy and techy, I loved it. Nice entry!
You got a pretty fun concept, I would love to see more levels, and how you can create new puzzles using this simple mechanic.
The art style is nice, I would have loved some more SFX and music to go with it!
Cool one!
Gameplay-wise, this is an interesting fusion between a platformer and that old Helicopter game. I think it really works, and there's definitely scope to expand this out with more levels and mechanics. The hand-drawn graphical style is very impressive, it reminds me of a grungy old Mega Drive game and I mean that in the nicest possible way. The lack of sound effects is a shame but I think the real problem is that it's just so short. This is just crying out to be expanded into a full game and I'd love to see that happen.
I love that you've posted insights into the game's creation as well, that's really nice to see!
@raphiell thanks
@rolly Yes, it's true, I'm already working on it, but there wouldn't be time to post it yet within the jam unfortunately, but I'll let you know here as soon as I update. Trhanks for testing
@f1krazy Your feedback really encourages me to continue this in the best way possible. Thank you very much for testing. I will post the update here on the page soon, thank you very much.
This is a nice little game (or prototype as you stated) - personally I would like to have some kind of proper restart mechanic, except from loading the page again. The design of the NOT-Fly is actually quite appealing, at least I do like it, it's like an animated sketch - maybe your next game could appear (almost) complete in that kind of style.
@oillen There really isn't even a reboot. Everything will be updated, thanks for testing
Pretty neat. Would be good if there were more levels but what is there is fun.
@kairuma Thank you for testing, I will update the project very soon, very soon.
The main mechanic is simple enough and this could work as a mobile game with harder levels.
