I love minecraft, so i love this one to)

nirlandec 2023-10-03 19:06

I really enjoyed playing that game. Gave me the nostalgic vibe from browser games that I used to play. One question though ... Why do I go boom when the fuel goes low ?XD

kewdev 2023-10-03 19:07

Solid entry! It reminds me a lot of "Motherload" the old flash game.

rolferm 2023-10-03 19:07

It works quite well and is fun. But I insist I have played something exactly like this before.

mossgames 2023-10-03 19:09

I got worried when I saw this game, then I realised that your objective was a Motherlode clone and I was like cool. This is ok by me! Faithful recreation, good job!

esther128 2023-10-03 19:09

Sweet Idea :) Is there a bug that youre exploding sometimes for no reason?

vlad-r 2023-10-03 19:10

.I loved the music and graphics. The mood was on point. I found it a bit hard to maneuver the miner while flying back up. Great game overall

spider-the-second 2023-10-03 19:10

@rolferm it's similar to the old flash game Motherload

daniilprasolov 2023-10-03 19:11

Great game! Quite fun to dig different metals.

igli 2023-10-03 19:12

Good graphics and interesting storyline! The responsiveness of the controls is a bit tricky.

animaster 2023-10-03 19:12

Loved sounds and intro, looks intriguing, like something big is about to begin :) In the game missed the things you described in the note, like shop and some more drama, hope to see bigger version of this in the future. In the game i exploded a few times for no reason, one of them while I was standing still on ground near the point where you sell metals. Anyway, nice job!

ghastlymicrowave 2023-10-03 19:13

Nice game, running out of fuel felt really bad the first time it happened, but after I got a hang of it I got into it.

gerardufoin 2023-10-03 19:15

You re-coded a washed down version of the first Motherload, this makes it kinda hard to rate unfortunately :/ I am not sure this is the best way nor the right place to promote it.

Getting inspired by Motherload is completely fine, but you should try to mix it up a bit, both for yourself and your players enjoyment.

kenevil1 2023-10-03 19:15

Reminds me of a motherload clone from the xbox 360 indie games era, good entry!

handsomeshan 2023-10-03 19:18

Look inside - no lava!

Clipboard03.jpg

sheepolution 2023-10-03 19:19

It's a fine digging game, but is missing some challenge. I can dig down and easily get back up in time.

frib 2023-10-03 19:19

Pretty solid game! Was interesting to figure out how to efficiently mine with the limited fuel and the restriction of only being able to dig down or sideways. The input felt a bit wonky sometimes, is it buffered? Sometimes it starts digging in a direction I didn't want to go to. Other than that, I enjoyed my playthrough :D good job!

delauraen 2023-10-03 19:20

Music was awesome! I liked the concept a lot and felt really satisfying to play. Impressive you were able to include helpful tutorial and a little setup to the setting!

paul-thick 2023-10-03 19:21

I did enjoyed the game, the old-school graphics look good. Though I find it a little bit challenging to get through 1x1 block gap while I am leaving the mine. The drill keeps jiggling left and right and just don`t move up, so I land, center the drill and only then fly to the surface. Anyway the synthwave music is fire and I was it was looped better. 5/5

chaineddreamer 2023-10-03 19:22

wow the music in this game is great. The mechanics work great and it is actually fun. this is one of the coolest games I've played in LD54.

limichou 2023-10-03 19:24

The mood is consistent thanks to musics, graphics and the story but I don't understand what I have to do to win the game.

poshdan 2023-10-03 19:26

@nirlandec It's classic videogame logic 😅

@rolferm Motherload? 😉

@esther128 I'm not aware of a bug like that. The player can explode for 3 reasons and the reason will be shown on screen. It's either 1. out of fuel, 2. took too much fall damage, 3. ran out of time (the timer is in lower left corner). I realise two of these aren't logical, it's just how we dealt with fail conditions.

@animaster I think it may have been the timer, it's not a very well indicated lose condition. You've got 5 minutes to reach $5000 or you lose.

@gerardufoin Yeah that's fair criticism, I know this isn't innovative on its own merit. We didn't want it to be so basic, but I couldn't work on the game on sunday so we had to cut a lot of the meat that would've set it apart. I used this jam as an opportunity to raise awareness of my commercial game (which I'm committed to make very unique and a worthy spiritual successor), plus I wanted to gauge interest in digger games to assess my risks. I hope that's not too business-ey thinking for the mood of Ludum Dare. I just want to make games for a living and I'm trying different things to gain confidence and player interest. Thank you for your honesty.

rorybabory 2023-10-03 19:28

Great game, like other people mentioned it reminds me of old flash games.

poshdan 2023-10-03 19:31

@handsomeshan Woops, I forgot to update the world generator to work below a certain depth 😅

@frib Yeah the controls are physics-based and digging has a buffer for input. I wanted to finetune the controls more, couldn't afford the time investment though.

@limichou We didn't have a win condition until the last hour or so 😅 Mismanaged my time. I forgot to state the goal clearly. It's to reach $5000 within 5 minutes.

tomtomgome 2023-10-03 19:36

I came for motherload, but their ain't no upgraaaades!! ;( The graphics are very reminicent of the original, the gameplay feels very nice. I would say that the game lack insentives, but the shop would have fullfiled that role. So overall, very nice entry :)

I wish you all the luck in making a proper successor to the original Motherload!

lexyvil 2023-10-03 19:36

Very reminiscent of Motherload, which I really like! The fact your version doesn't require you to keep purchasing upgrades and instead relies on automatic upgrades from bringing home your findings is refreshing. I assume the limited space is due to the limited cargo and fuel tank at the beginning. This was a fun entry, good job!

gerardufoin 2023-10-03 19:37

@poshdan No worries, my comment is not meant to discourage you from your project, quite the opposite I wish you all the best! Motherload was and still is to this day a game I really enjoyed and have fond memories of.

What I would recommend if you want to promote the game in those kind of game jam is to keep the core of the game so you can work on it, but give it a spin so it fits the theme of the jam. Two birds with one stone! And a game with a restricted gameplay which is finished and polished will always be better received ;) You can then take back the core and keep working on it for your project.

All the best in your endeavors and godspeed!

poshdan 2023-10-03 19:45

@lexyvil The automatic upgrades were thrown in at the last minute to provide some feeling of progression 🤫 My interpretation of the theme was more about the narrow tunnels the player has to go through. But to be honest I was determined on making this type of game regardless of the theme, it just happened to sort-of be applicable, so we didn't opt out.

@gerardufoin Thank you very much!

fatemperor 2023-10-03 19:46

A good game about miners. I've been waiting a long time for the game to allow me to buy upgrades. I didn't immediately see the bankruptcy timer. It would be great to increase the timer at the expense of the money received from sales.

geronimo 2023-10-03 19:54

Very nice recreation of motherload done in a game jam's time! The ending was a bit abrupt but i understand you couldnt make a longer cutscene or anything like that, the art style felt very coherent, and the intro sequence was nice, simple game, well done.

evilmurlock 2023-10-03 20:00

Its a motherload clone, motherload is way better. Still its was kind of fun I guess, for being made during the jam. Cant expect that much polish as the original

jadener 2023-10-03 20:08

I liked to dig and fly around in the tank, even though its a bit difficult to aim, but what I really enjoyed was the feeling of the game, along with the lore ^^ The dirty feel, the overpopulated earth, and of course the bankrupcy timer, lol. Overall a very enjoyable game, you did well ^^

themixedmaster 2023-10-03 21:20

The game was fun but the time until bankruptcy never seemed to go up no matter what I do. So I was basically only ever to play for 300 seconds before having to start over. Really fun though. I never played motherload but I played a similar flash game called Mega Miner. I loved that and this reminds me of it a lot. Could've done a bit more around the theme and the controls are a bit weird but it's fun and nostalgic.

zabenderman 2023-10-03 21:51

Fun game! I think telling the player how much money they needed to finish it would have been helpful.

anciententity 2023-10-04 06:14

Really fun but unfortunately reminds me too much of motherload so it's hard to rate. Regardless, amazing work and should be proud that you made a game :O

ottos 2023-10-04 19:59

I really liked the mood and overall the whole vibe of it. I really liked the little intro it had, but maybe wish that the font size were bigger and maybe showed partially (not as a big amount of text at once)

At first I couldn't figure out why would I get suddenly destroyed in the middle of the process, took me some time to figure it out. I really like the idea of digging and getting resources, but because of constant need to not explode I basically learned that I better *to not* explore, instead dig somewhere relatively near. Maybe if flying wouldn't took the fuel..?

Also it might be my bad on having a relatively bad pc, but controls felt somewhat chunky. It's almost as if I couldn't control the machine fully - it would dig more than I need, walk more than I need or fly into outer space, making me wait for it to return (the last thing was actually somewhat funny :D)

Other than that I may be just a really wrong (more casual and story-based typ eof player) audience, so take my comment with a huuuge bit of salt!!

Overall really liked the idea, setting and mood (audio really helped to set all of that, too!), so big thanks for your entry! I really wish you best! <3

skel3ton 2023-10-05 17:25

solid entry. I liked the music. the music fit perfectly there. the graphics look good, retro, but quite "messy" for pixel art. the game certainly kept me entertained for a while

nilan 2023-10-06 04:49

A fun game! Good graphic and music. Although the current content is limited and there are no upgrade options, the only goal is to continuously repeat the mining cycle. However, I believe this is due to the lack of time, and when it is released in its complete version, it will definitely become a super fun game.

One small suggestion, perhaps could make the collision range of the block a little looser. Currently, it's difficult to fly out when there is only one block width for the passage.

Overall, I really enjoy it. Mining is quite interesting!

bradjste 2023-10-06 16:43

Neat game! I had fun playing this, got Terraria vibes from it which I love. All the text disappeared on me pretty early so I couldn't figure out what was going on and did not really have a goal/milestone/objective to work towards, but the core gameplay was engaging and easy to pick up (yet still challenging), and the art + music were nice together. Good work!
