LD54 — Limited Space

Next Station by Vinicius Veronese 2023-10-03T18:42:00Z

We almost went with the same idea about a metro and colored shape to fit in at a station!

Obviously like this idea ;) The graphics are quite nice, I loved the little ads about the Ludum Dare in the back.

I struggled a bit with the controls, sometimes the pieces are getting picked up right after placing them down. I feel like drag&dropping might have been easier and more instinctive.

Ideally I think the metro should be on the smaller side, I did not feel like I was struggling to fit people in, I was just limited by my APM. A smaller metro would probably highlight more the intricacies of the different shapes.

Good job overall!

You re-coded a washed down version of the first Motherload, this makes it kinda hard to rate unfortunately :/ I am not sure this is the best way nor the right place to promote it.

Getting inspired by Motherload is completely fine, but you should try to mix it up a bit, both for yourself and your players enjoyment.

Deep Dreams by PoshDan 2023-10-03T19:37:31Z

@poshdan No worries, my comment is not meant to discourage you from your project, quite the opposite I wish you all the best! Motherload was and still is to this day a game I really enjoyed and have fond memories of.

What I would recommend if you want to promote the game in those kind of game jam is to keep the core of the game so you can work on it, but give it a spin so it fits the theme of the jam. Two birds with one stone! And a game with a restricted gameplay which is finished and polished will always be better received ;) You can then take back the core and keep working on it for your project.

All the best in your endeavors and godspeed!

Too Many Marbles by Thomas Volpato 2023-10-07T07:24:31Z

Tied first with computer 3 but still got a game over, sad times.

I think other comments have said most of what I had in mind. The game is interesting but quite dry and horribly slow. I feel like the aiming arrow is shorter than it should be and it makes aiming annoying, especially when trying to aim from the sides. Random ball selection with different weight makes it hard to be consistent with your throws, but it is probably on purpose. I would have preferred the option to choose a "weight family" at the beginning and then have a consistent weight among the random selection.

All that being said, congrats on you jam!

Rocket of Sand by Paul-Maxime 2023-10-03T15:56:45Z

@kabura Thanks for your comment! Happy to know you liked the game.

In addition to my colleague reply, I will add that regarding the effect on the water, it is a displacement shader applied to the isometric 2D tiles.

If you are interested it is available on the Github, under /shaders/Water.tres.

It is a visual shader made with Godot and can be opened with their shader editor if you are curious :)

ALL OUTTA SPACE by Quackqack 2023-10-03T12:55:09Z

Nice game, had a lot of fun playing it. I love the different "difficulty systems" created with the optional bonus spheres.

I feel like the R button should be available at all time to restart the level without having to ran into a wall on purpose to reset a bad start. The damage hitbox felt slightly too punishing, especially when turning the ship. Is it a rectangle to fit the ship shape? Maybe an oval would feel better, hard to say.

Too bad there is no level selection (even if I completely understand why as this is a game jam), I would have love to finish the game. Managed to collect every spheres up to level 16 but I unfortunately don't have more time available right now and will probably not replay the whole thing to completion.

Quite the fun little game though, congrats!

Escape the Closet by TheWinrawr 2023-10-06T16:38:37Z

Super cool game, you nailed the ambiance. The application of the theme to both the command line and the actual setting is quite smart.

Good use of a restricted amount of commands and a pretty nice progression of the gameplay.

I did not die, but from the comments I have read it seems my natural reaction to seeing a monster in a horror game (stopping everything) was the right one, hehe. Not sure what the flashlight was for however? Didn't kill me to flash the monster so I just flashed it every time it popped up just in case. (It does not have eyes though... So I guess it may have been pointless)

Congrats on your jam!

Ghost peppers from someplace by Neeko69 2023-10-07T07:48:58Z

Congrats on your jam and first game on Godot!

Discovered Godot for the first time this jam as well and it can be quite confusing/frustrating at time when coming from Unity.

Quite the fun little concept. As mentioned by others it gives a "mini game" vibe. I think my issue with the scrubbing is that it is a movement that is kinda taxing on the arm, as kind of unusual in gaming. It is fine in short burst (mini-game style), but consistent fast scrubbing will leave you with a sore arm.

Another grip I have with the game is the randomness of the enemy life with no information about it. Sometimes one hit is enough, sometimes I have to scrub them like ten times before they die. This makes it very difficult and random to plan an escape route, as the ghost you are targeting could be quite tough and you can be sandwich with another ghost which could have died in one or two hits.

Hope you had fun and discovered a lot of new things!

Too Maneon Loots by lastuck 2023-10-03T18:26:12Z

Woah, love the visual for your game. The music fits to a T!

I like the idea behind the gameplay but right now it feels like there is too much happening at once. I would have like the beginning of the game to be slower so we can have the time to understand the base mechanics and test the stats.

I feel like the stats on the equipment are a bit of an issue, I did not feel like I had the time to read anything and was just slotting everything that kinda looked better that what I currently had equipped like a maniac, haha.

Not 100% sure what the equipment colors were about, I just went along with my gamer instinct as to which color was better than the others.

tldr: Really liked the idea but hoped I had a bit more leeway to look at Neon being a silly hoarder!

Prickle by Kultuk 2023-10-04T12:19:38Z

Probably the cleanest game in the jam I have played so far, full score for me. Mechanics were well defined and well exploited. The fact that the black Prickle is the point of rotation is smart and well used. The graphics are quite nice and I love the transitions between level/restart. Sound design is clean and on point.

My only grip is that I would have liked the level number to be displayed (maybe also the total number of levels in order to know how much time I have to allocate to finish?).

Slap a level selection to this bad boy, add a few levels and you could even release it for a few bucks in my opinion.

Congrats on your jam!

Lightbringer by Kabura 2023-10-06T17:09:06Z

Quite the visually pleasing and polished game, good job!

The idea behind the gameplay was interesting, but as mentioned by other the difficulty was somewhat lacking. I dropped out after 600 kills with no end in sight.

An idea to prevent camping in the same spot could be to make the torches stock refill with an item spawning at pre-determined places on the map, forcing the players to move around in order to keep getting torches (I originally thought the game was working that way before seeing the refill meter for the torch). It would be more difficult to balance though, as running out of torches would lock the player in the same spot.

Congrats on your jam!

Escape from the restaurant by iskander 2023-10-03T18:58:24Z

Congrats on you jam entry!

Managed to finish the game, I feel like some indications on the object you can interact with would have helped. Maybe a highlight or a different texture?

Fill the crates ! by Flancon 2023-10-03T19:59:57Z

Congrats on your first game jam, hope you had fun and learned a lot!

I don't know what I did, but I unfortunately managed to break the game. I tested to lose life in order to end the game but after one "hit", my life would not drop anymore no matter what I did. The drag&drop was a bit janky too, but those comes with practice.

Gameplay-wise I would recommend adding a button to validate the box ahead of time, sometimes the 30 seconds are a bit long and you are forced to wait.

Great job nonetheless

Star hotel by Taeghen 2023-10-03T19:29:04Z

Made me think about Monster Hotel (from Motion Twin), in a good way! Congrats on the game, great outcome.

Gave me a laugh once I checked my star rating and realized it had jumped out of the screen.

Iceolation by CaptainPMM 2023-10-03T16:17:12Z

Quite the fun arcade game. Too bad there is no sound, I feel like a retro arcade soundtrack would have been an amazing fit! But game jams do be like that.

On another note, my penguin may have drowned, but it will never fear the sun again :sunglasses:
