Very fun to play! The game feel is great and I loved the music and the graphics! Great job !

sergei11156 2023-10-03 13:11

Wow, very beautiful game. The animation, music, art are perfect. the recoil from the shooting and the shaking camera make the game very dynamic

paroxysmal 2023-10-03 13:14

Good game feels polished. It'd be nice to have some type of ping when you can place another torch. Great entry regardless.

tyrannas 2023-10-03 13:14

Wow, such a nice polishing ! Everything is super smooth to play, the SFX, the FX, the screenshake, and the music is quite catchy too ! Great entry !

vlad-r 2023-10-03 13:15

I loved the mood and the aesthetic of the game. Music is also on point, loved it. I feel that the number of creatures spawned should increase a lot as time goes by - I found a corner to defend and I was basically able to sit there indefinitely

bongo227 2023-10-03 13:17

Feels really polished, well done! Love the limited colour palette, but the smaller enemies are a little difficult to make out from the background. Maybe the health boxes are a bit too frequent, I found camping in one spot was pretty easy.

stealthorc 2023-10-03 13:17

I like the graphics, the animations and all feel so polished. The music is also really fitting! I would've loved some more enemy diversity, with their attacks, maybe some zones they claim, which would damage the player aditionally or something. Also some kind of upgrades for the player would've been nice!

But this is a solid game and fits the theme well! Well done, I like it!

pierre-marie 2023-10-03 13:17

The atmosphere is very pleasant, I stopped after 1000 mobs killed, not knowing if there was a sequel. As a bonus, it would have been nice to have little loots on monsters to improve our shooting or torches. And the fact that you can shoot at enemies who are dying makes the clean-up quite frustrating, as you save your shots to wait for the mob to disappear completely before continuing to shoot, whereas the pleasure of shooting encourages you to go for the kill. But otherwise a great concept! PeuDeTemps.png

imwonderr 2023-10-03 13:19

Feels great to play!! The game feels AWESOME! The small enemies are a bit hard to see when they're attacking your torch, but I really like that you can see them in the dark. Great take on the theme!

mael-rios 2023-10-03 13:20

The game is very fun and satisfying, but I don't really get the goal? Is it to survive the longest? Cause if so it does seem a bit overpowered to put infinite torches on cooldown and camp. But besides that it's a very cool game and I love the graphics and overall mood!

luc-magitem 2023-10-03 13:28

Sadly it doesn't run in my browser, I get the following error:

Uncaught DOMException: The operation is insecure. scott-cooper 2023-10-03 14:45

That was really cool! I love the art style, music is really fitting, and the torch mechanic is really nice! When I first loaded it up I was really impressed by what you all got done in this short time. Keep up the good work guys!

kabura 2023-10-03 16:36

@scott-cooper @mael-rios @imwonderr @paroxysmal @bongo227 @tyrannas @vlad-r @sergei11156 @pierrez @stealthorc Thank you all so much for your support! We really appreciate your feedback and already had plans for updates that all of you noted down as well. Fist of all there actually was a curve for enemy spawns over time, it just doesn't seem to work right now, we will fix that. We also wanted to make it more noticeable when you have a new torch available, but we were crunching so hard on the last few hours, that we just didn't have the time for it. Also we wanted to make the health drops disappear after some time, so you have to take them while they are fresh. I noticed that camping in one spot was very op as well, just too late. The original idea was to spread out more, which also makes it more difficult to protect all the torches further away. A possible fix could be to have a minimum range they need to be apart, what do you guys think, is that a good way to go? Lastly for further development we plan to implement an upgrade system. May it be by collecting other drops or leveling up through XP, you will be able to buff your damage, fire rate, player hp and torch hp, speed, as well as ammo capacity, reload time and torch capacity. please let us know what you think and if you have some cool ideas! :fire:

kabura 2023-10-03 16:39

@luc-magitem man that sucks :/ don't really know how to help you there, as it seems to work for everyone else.. have you tried another browser maybe?

dwarfid 2023-10-04 07:50

Wow ! Wonderful pixel art game ! The mechanic is cool, the concept too and we have a good feeling on shoot ! The music and sound design is perfect to the game ! Maybe the mechanic are a little bit repetitive at a certain point but I think this is a feature you want to improve ! I love the style too ! You can proud of you ! Fantastic game jam ! ;-)

luc-magitem 2023-10-04 07:54

Oh you're right it works on Chromium and not on Firefox, my bad. Congratulations it's an awesome game!

3mpty 2023-10-04 08:09

Excellent polish and juice in this game, very consistently high quality pixel art and nice animations on everything! The core concept is a great starting place, but I found myself a little disappointed that the torch mechanic felt like it was encouraging me to explore and find stuff, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything to find.

I think the difficulty needed to ramp up a bit, I found a position on the map I could stand still and shoot basically every enemy approaching and never be in any danger which is a shame.

Overall it's simple, well implemented and very nice looking and feeling, I think it's a great submission, awesome work!

taldius 2023-10-04 08:11

Simple idea but it works well and the amount of polish is impressive. Great job!

kasmilus 2023-10-04 08:29

Really beautiful game, some strong celeste vibes here. Sound design is really cool and gameplay is solid. Difficulty wasn't really changing throughout the game, I stopped after 10 minutes as I felt the game didn't have anything else to offer at this point but it was really fun 10 minutes. One of the more polished games I've seen this jam. Add some weapons, more interesting enemies and you've got a game you can sell. (I'd personally add some varied levels as well, not a huge fan of endless shooters but hey, it works the way it is...).

animaster 2023-10-04 08:48

Nice little game. Graphics looks great, gameplay feels good, but a little too easy. I hoped to see some progression or temporary powerups, especially in shooting mechanics, because reloading felt a little too long. But game is very polished, and i liked it with what it already have, great job!

maximbegunov 2023-10-04 09:27

The game feels really good! Very polished. Some kind of goal would be nice, like finding items or defeating a boss.

mr-lazy 2023-10-04 10:37

the art style and the concept is awesome (only on first time, I thought gun shells also as some sort of insect)..you nailed this game inside the theme..good work

deltamain 2023-10-04 13:37

Liked this one! Very good graphics and music. Also the game is very polished.

ahbee-studio-nex-us 2023-10-04 15:54

The art, audio, and overall game feel are well-executed Well done !! . However, in terms of game progression, there's a lack of challenge. It might be beneficial to introduce map objectives that require the player to complete tasks and move around, preventing camping in one spot.

sozey 2023-10-04 16:49

That was such a fun game, lots of polish and great work on the game feel! The gun feels fun to just shoot with the character recoiling, the screenshake and the bullets tracing through the darkness! Super cool entry honestly.

hiding-dev 2023-10-04 17:17

Enjoyed playing this game! Loved the consistent art style.

gerardufoin 2023-10-06 17:09

Quite the visually pleasing and polished game, good job!

The idea behind the gameplay was interesting, but as mentioned by other the difficulty was somewhat lacking. I dropped out after 600 kills with no end in sight.

An idea to prevent camping in the same spot could be to make the torches stock refill with an item spawning at pre-determined places on the map, forcing the players to move around in order to keep getting torches (I originally thought the game was working that way before seeing the refill meter for the torch). It would be more difficult to balance though, as running out of torches would lock the player in the same spot.

Congrats on your jam!

coderaurus 2023-10-07 08:02

Solid shoot'em up. Very polished, love the tunes and clean pixel art. The hurt sound was bit irritating when you were in the darkness. Wish the game had more weapons.

Good job!

greatfrogwizard 2023-10-07 12:48

Fantastic shmup game! I love how polished it is for having a small window of time to create. The art is just a chef's kiss. I love the mood of it so much. I'd put this up there as a fun little lite version of something like Enter The Gungeon - one of my personal favorites. The gameplay loop is really strong too. I've seen people mentioning difficulty increasing as well as techniques centered around sitting in one spot, and I think with even more time on this game that's a really easy fix.

This game has some legs and meat on it, and I'd love to see something like this on Steam one day. Don't stop making games, and certainly don't stop making pixel art!! Absolutely lovely game.

rend 2023-10-08 15:04

The best entry I've played so far. Simple yet efficient game design, cool pixel art and juice, fitting sound design. You have the foundations for a great game, with more weapons, enemies, maybe additional mechanics around light. I don't know if the main goal was just survival, but I think having to explore in order to find the exit of the level could give an additional incentive to the player. Great work guys!

ategon 2023-10-10 17:21

Hey, I’m the host of the Ludum Dare score chasers tournament for this jam

Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background in the waiting period / intermission. In the waiting period its going to cycle between gameplay of a bunch of different games in the background (with music from games in the jam playing as well)

morc 2023-10-10 18:50

Hey @ategon, sure i dont see the problem haha. Btw I've never heard of a Ludum Dare score chasers tournament lol. Will definitely check this out ;) I hope you like the game :D
