Really liked the atmosphere of the game - music was very good, added a lot to the experience. Vine growth mechanic took a while to figure out, but when I did it was really fun messing with it. Appreciated the how vines and player interacted - never blocked but able to stand on them. Can even ride on them while they grow! Not sure what I was supposed to do next, or what watering even did, but still had fun just messing about aimlessly.

leon-oost 2020-04-21 12:12

This game is super cooool! I love the music and the gameplay! <3

badpiggy 2020-04-21 13:24

Easily one of the better games of the jam. The kind of game you can just mess about in even if you don't know what to do. I really have no complaints. The vines were awesome. The fact that each world is procedurally generated helps with replayability as well. I absolutely loved it.

1punnyguy44 2020-04-21 13:51

Amazing work dude! You nailed the atmosphere and the gameplay fits the feel. the music is fantastic as well. My only issue is that falling is a bit to punishing especially when you have got all the seed things. you have to start all over which in some games might be fine but in a chill game like this I don't like. I don't have any other issues great job!

vulgaris 2020-04-21 14:45

simply great, i left out a big 'wow' when i started growing paths with the vine. super original concept, congrats.

charlez245 2020-04-21 16:21

One of the things I really enjoyed was how parts of the game were told by talking to others. The graphics and colors used were nice, with the music adding to the atmosphere of the game. The automatically generated levels were a pleasant surprise that increased the game's replayability immensely. The only two issues I had with the game was that the camera would move too fast, sometimes going far away and the player could clip through vines depending on the angle, plummeting through the clouds. Vine and void was a lot of fun to play! Also, what did Green do!?

nathan-wiles 2020-04-21 16:51

This vine mechanic is so cool. The way the player interacts with the vines is very well done and wouldn't have worked nearly as well with any other set of rules. I think I did everything. I collected the three seed shards but couldn't find anything to do after that. The worldbuilding in this game is so cool. I hope you keep working on this and turn it into something with a larger map and more depth. Would be a very cool puzzle adventure game.

cryptanark 2020-04-21 17:16

Atmosphere was incredible. I loved the cloud effects and the color palette in general. I was a little worried about falling off, and I guess I never did really find out what happens then, but I liked talking to all the island friends. I didn't realize how the vines worked at first but once I got going I was pleasantly surprised at how seamlessly they helped you navigate the level; I never got trapped by poor placement. Ultra seed was a nice touch, haha.

In the future, maybe it would be nice to let the player stick around in the map once they've finished the game to continue to enjoy moving around in the space? That would probably require more dialogue, though.

jlv 2020-04-21 22:54

Awesome game, with a really relaxing atmosphere. There is that "woah" moment when you discover how much you can do ith a wine, and then another one when you finally manage to mak rain appear by following the advice of the clouds. The gameplay is supported by an awesome soundtrack and great visuals : congratulations for completing such a great experience in 72h !

attx 2020-04-22 02:18

Great atmosphere, nice stylized graphics, nice sound and sfx and interesting mechanics and a good story! Awesome job man! I published a game myself here if you want to go check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/pestilentia

kalendhos 2020-04-22 10:52

reddashgames 2020-04-22 13:26

Wow the look and feel of this game is just so pritty. <3 love this little gem. <3

prof-suarez 2020-04-22 13:44

This was the best game I've played so far! Really well done!

cometoverdrive 2020-04-22 15:04

The vine mechanic is really awesome and something special. If I were you, I'd expand that out into a bigger game, it's so fun! The art and sound fit the game really well too. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was how the platforming felt, but the game didn't really require great platforming so it didn't bother me a ton.

Awesome work!

topolino 2020-04-22 15:42

This was so cool! I eventually got stuck inside a cloud after pushing myself in there with a vine - but to be honest I didn't mind so much since the atmosphere was calming. I had a really good time even though I didn't have an expressed purpose for most of it - I just liked talking to the clouds. Fan-freaking-tastic job!

haoro 2020-04-22 19:42

Such a good piece of art ! Really enjoyed playing it (even if I'm too bad and end up dying 3 time before finishing it x) Really good job !

ldf-productions 2020-04-22 20:31

Absolutely beautiful game! Love the concept, how you can interact with the characters and how they guide you through the game. It's super simple but the vine mechanic is very cool and fun! Also good sounds and good music, fantastic job!

mhykah 2020-04-24 01:16

Interesting game with a very unique mechanic! I got the seed pieces but unfortunately I was stuck on what I had to do after that. I really liked the colours and visual style, sound effects, and music. The vines are a really creative idea and I hope that you can continue to push them further. Making a level generator in such a short time for something like this is very impressive. Good job!

god-colo 2020-04-25 06:03

The music is SO relaxing! The simplistic artstyle is just for the atmosphere! I loved the mechanic of growing paths! This was the most awesome mechanic I've seen! Greato Jobu!

linluk 2020-04-25 12:05

music is great, graphics are great, dialogs are great. awesome gameplay, just love it.

learus 2020-04-25 13:12

*clap clap clap* This game is not a game.. It's an experience. I loved every single thing about it! The atmosphere, the music, the dialog, the graphics, the mechanics. It must have been a nightmare to code this mechanic... You did well, making the game randomly generated. An amazing submission. More than impressive for a game made in 72 hours. Good job!

mmmcgill1232 2020-04-25 13:36

Love it! The vine mechanic feels fantastic and the audio was delightful and perfectly matches the gameplay!

mrhassansan 2020-04-25 13:59

A W W W This was so, so good! Like others, I thought the vine mechanic was really cool. The coolest part of it for me was how you could also make the vines go in reverse!

Like @mhykah, I was stuck at first when I got the megaseed. I misunderstood a cloud and assumed *only* the megavine could interact with the rain clouds. Eventually I got it though! Thoroughly enjoyed this :)

justcamh 2020-04-25 14:11

@learus Aww, thanks a heap, I'm glad you liked the... *experience*. The vine wasn't too bad, and the world generation was genuinely so much fun to make! It was awesome when I had the system up and working, and I had almost a hundred sliders to adjust to get the perfect generator, with each slider greatly affecting the result.

@mmmcgill1232 Mhmm, that audio is perfect, a wonderful masterpiece by the talented @clockmaker, and the game wouldn't be the same without their amazing music. You can (and should) hear the ost or follow them [here](https://soundcloud.com/clockmaker1/vine-and-void-ost)!

@mrhassansan People are a bit cryptic about what to do with it, I'll make that clearer in the future, but I still want there to be some sort of puzzly aspect to it... It can be hard to balance!

cliff-lee-cl 2020-04-25 14:42

Great entry with awesome atmosphere and music! I also love the vine mechanism that I could make my path by myself. I wish there's a way to shorten the vine. Sometimes, I'll get stuck by my terrible platform-making skill.

justcamh 2020-04-25 14:55

@cliff-lee-cl You actually can shorten the vine, tho it's context sensitive. You can also press down to fall through the vines, theoretically it should be impossible to get stuck!

sharks 2020-04-25 14:59

I really enjoyed that! The vine mechanic was cool and I enjoyed figuring out the story! I thought it adhered to the theme well!

cadstor 2020-04-25 19:39

I really like your game! The simple aesthetic is good and well combine withe relaxing and peaceful music. The idea so cool. Nice job :3

gamechoy 2020-04-26 01:46

So peaceful yet so not haha! Really loved the graphics and music. The vine mechanic was super cool and I liked how the worlds were randomized. Great entry!

wilhelmstein 2020-04-26 07:54

Fun, frustrating (in a good way) with really good atmosphere.

mabrax 2020-04-26 15:01

The music is so relaxing; it feels nice to play and relax. It's intuitive to understand what to do. The game difficulty is ok. The procedurally generated levels are cool because it gives you repeatability.

What I really like about this game is that it gives me a happy mood when I'm playing it, I don't care about winning or losing. Really nice work!.

almagor 2020-04-26 17:37

Awesome "experience", it doesn't matter if you won or if you lose its an experience that transport you to another world.

monblu 2020-04-27 15:02

I loved the simplicity of the world, the ambiance is awesome! The mechanic is also pretty innovative and fun!

enzom14 2020-04-27 21:18

It simply a true joy to play, the innovative mechanics, the nice atmosphere. Even when surrounded by those dark clouds I felt such a pleasent feeling just wandering through the colourful clouds. I really liked, great job :D

untitled-studios 2020-04-28 13:32

Amazing, creative, beautiful, innovative, fun. Audio is beautiful, glorious. Relaxing but can still be challenging! 5/5

larsspawn 2020-04-28 13:51

Simple graphics but somehow atmoshpheric. Also I love the music, it suits very well!

jantunes 2020-04-28 14:27

So far the best experience I had in this LD. From graphics to sound, everything falls into place perfectly. Loved the vine mechanic

slotha 2020-04-30 02:47

Amazing Game! I loved the atmosphere! It took me a bit to work out how to grow vines, and I didn't know what to do with the megaseed when I got it, Let me know so I can finish this Brilliant Game! Fantastic Job! I played for way too long and I am keepinh it to play after Ludum dare!

justcamh 2020-04-30 06:17

@slotha The mega seed huh? Well I wouldn't want to solve the puzzle for you or anyone else reading this comment, so I'll say that people in game will give you hints, and that it has something to do with the black clouds at the edge of the map. It's intentionally cryptic, I'd hoped it'd encourage you to talk with more people.

I've also heard of people not knowing what to do after the seed is watered... and that's my fault. Once the mega seed is watered, the seed will be placed on the ground and you can use your vine power near the seed to grow it.

One other thing that might help, some people will say different things when you talk to them again.

fabighindaru 2020-05-01 07:38

So atmospheric and moody! Great job! ^^

frozen-spirit 2020-05-02 07:38

The personalities of the different clouds was what really sold the game for me. The vine mechanic was well thought out and it was super fun to play. Amazing game!

dmtroy 2020-05-02 07:43

Really lovely atmosphere

staircase27a 2020-05-02 08:31

Nice mechanic for the vines. Could have down with a little more instructions to start with as it took a while to make the vines grow. I'm not sure why but after having spoken to everyone I still couldn't find the third part of the mega seed. This happened more than once too.

Also not sure why but audio didn't work so didn't score on that

justcamh 2020-05-02 10:42

@staircase27a oh no, that’s a real shame that audio didn’t work... could I ask for some details, were you perhaps on a Linux or Mac build? Thank you for not downvoting in audio, my friend clockmaker worked really hard on it.

notan-lemon 2020-05-02 11:17

Fantastic! I loved this game very much. The vine mechanic is really cool. I had a lot of fun growing vines to all directions. Talking to people was really great too. Not all people had hints to the game, but each talk with them made me happy. Also the music is amazing! It makes this game relaxing and fascinating. Great job!

chaseplays 2020-05-12 07:29

Wow, that was way harder than I thought it would be! Still, you made a pretty incredible game! I loved that it was procedurally generated, and it all felt polished and fun. The controls were intuitive, and the music was great! It felt a bit buggy sometimes (my first playthrough I'm not sure if the game was beatable), but I might just have been bad at the game. No matter what, you put out an amazing game that I had a lot of fun playing. Great work!

justcamh 2020-05-12 07:52

@chaseplays Thanks for playing, you slipped in just before results! I do believe that the world gen is always beatable but it's hard to say for sure. If you're interested, I made a [post about the world gen](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/vine-and-void/behind-the-scenes-of-my-procedural-world-generation), it's a pretty complex little thing... I'm glad you enjoyed!

chaseplays 2020-05-12 19:37

@justcamh Your world generation post is really neat! I guess I was just missing something the one time the game didn't seem beatable. And yeah, I've been trying to play the games of everyone who left a comment on mine, but I left most of them for the last day, so I've been cramming as much as I can since last night.

If you made a bigger version of this game with randomly generated tasks for each run, I would love to come back and try it again! There's a lot of potential here in your game, which is already fantastic as it is!
