Interesting! Great job. I found a spelling error, but I'm not telling you where huehuehue

thompson 2020-04-21 06:40

Interesting Game Concept! It gives me a lot of Stardew Valley vibes.

cogh 2020-04-21 06:52

surprisingly satisfying to restore the paintings. bit of a textfest but otherwise cool. original setting and nice interpretation of theme

wilko 2020-04-21 12:59

Like a previous commenter said, clearing the paintings is like using a pressure washer and very satisfying. It would be great if there were a few different tools to use on the paintings for different tasks so the game-play was a bit more varied.

flamus 2020-04-21 13:03

Cute game, with very nice graphics!

wittycognomen 2020-04-21 14:15

Good use of a simple game mechanic as a vehicle for a story. There's potential here that can be expanded on.

crescent 2020-04-21 14:18

characters looks like from final fantasy game. Looks like a visal novel type. good work

jlv 2020-04-21 14:26

@crescent Great observation ! I actually used that book (https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/477947/ff-dot-the-pixel-art-of-final-fantasy-import-book) as a reference, so these sprites are definitely FF-inspired !

learus 2020-04-21 21:45

Interesting choice of combining the characters art style with the background one. At the beginning I thought it would be like a old times "medieval" story but how the story turned out was so unexpected. "Color me suprised" as the first dialog says. Overall fun little game with a good atmosphere.

shikamaru 2020-04-21 21:47

I like your graphical preferences. Good work!

seothen 2020-04-21 21:58

Really interesting; I admit to being a bit lost in the dialogue and the technical aspects - it would've been cool if you could have screwed up in fixing the paintings. But really one of the more unique entries in this contest that I've played, nice work.

izokia 2020-04-21 22:03

I think the way the game works and feels is really fun and enjoyable. However, I feel like a skip option would greatly increase entertainment and fun (my monkey brain can't sit through the long cut scenes). Game pla\y overall was very fun. Good Job!

i loved the painting restoration aspect and i found it very innovative. however in narrative games i apreciate it when the story is told showing rather than telling, to reduce a bit the use of text. but the text was not a dealbreaker for me, i still had fun!

splitpainter 2020-04-22 04:23

I loved every aspect of this: the art, the context, the content and the originality. Also additional points for also creating a narrative game!

splitpainter 2020-04-22 04:27

I love this YouTube channel about restoring paintings: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvZe6ZCbF9xgbbbdkiodPKQ

I had another favorite in this jam, but I think this one won the position now :)

bongooo 2020-04-22 07:04

Just played! very nice! Probably I will tweet about this in the next day on this page https://twitter.com/Free_IndieGames !

robowarrior1982 2020-04-22 13:14

I like the pixel art like old final fantasy, the story and the minigame to reveal the paint who influence the story was an excellent idea.Good job !

khud0 2020-04-22 14:20

Wow, that's a lot of game story in such a short time!

epsulon 2020-04-22 15:18

good job i really liked the story and the art style

niceden 2020-04-22 22:11

Looks great !

maxathon 2020-04-22 22:35

I've never played a painting restoration game before, so high marks for innovation.

Got a bit pixel hunt-y at some points when I'd missed a small area of a painting. Maybe there's an opportunity to add more complexity there? Different tools to solve different problems with old paintings?

jlv 2020-04-22 23:45

@splitpainter Thanks a lot for the channel, seems great !

@maxathon You are right, the current implementation is wonky. I did not have the time to find an acceptably performant method for tracking the exact proportion of "top layer" pixels vs "under layer pixels", so the game only tracks the absolute number of pixels touched with the brush enabled. In other words, brushing the same small area repeatedly would also trigger the next story scene. To avoid that and encourage the player to brush a wide surface, I had to set the required number of brushed pixels a bit high, hence the feeling you had of spending too much time on the same sequence.

Love the sudden sci-fi twist. Great pixel art and soundtrack. Good job connecting the paint restoration to the story. I liked the balance between exposition and gameplay. Nice entry!

adriankrawczyk 2020-04-24 08:14

nice artstyle

nova31 2020-04-24 08:23

Nice game with nice graphics especially the backgrounds :D

brain-in-a-bowl 2020-04-24 19:51

Nice, well written story with an interesting twist. Almost reads like a Neil Gaiman short.

marcusnystrand 2020-04-24 21:17

Your aesthetics is super refreshing and cool. Also I don't come across story based games like this, that are as you describe it Visual novels. Really cool and something different!

Good job!

lex 2020-04-25 22:58

I liked how you set the mood by changing the music. That plot twist got me!

olewis 2020-04-27 15:13

The music fit really well and complemented the art style nicely! Good job on your game.

terribletriojoe 2020-04-28 05:32

Interesting story! The artwork was really nice, and this was definitely a unique game out of the ones I've tried so far.

nihushu 2020-04-29 22:49

Really cool game, it's like those videos of painting restoration on YT :D

divadyugi 2020-05-06 18:19

I really liked the story in the game, and the artwork was also really good, reminded me a little bit of old-school jrpgs that I played when I was a child
