Nice game, really liked it beated in 117 haha. Just found a bug when you enter the water with the torch facing the wall the player don't die

Great game - love the pixel art graphics :)!

snesgaard 2020-04-21 19:48

@henriquecanella Glad you liked! As a true software developer I choose to classify that as a feature :)

snowtoast 2020-04-21 21:13

Great entry! Beat it in 93seconds. Liked the water level hazard at the start. Nice graphics, too!

learus 2020-04-21 21:15

Good game with good fundamentals and really nice graphics! The fire animation is very good. Well done. Can become really fun if you decide to make it bigger.

natwomb 2020-04-21 21:19

Neat game, nice animations!

hanamigi 2020-04-21 21:22

Nice little platformer that could become a nice little proper game. I liked the torch light effects and the character animation. Some sound effects would enhance the experience!

jwiggs 2020-04-21 21:26

Cool platformer! I found the first floor to be incredibly difficult and it took me a few minutes to get the hang of it. The first platforms were way too small and the water moved too quickly. Despite the steep learning curve it was pretty fun once I got the hang of it.

lars-erik 2020-04-21 21:31

Fun idea. Liked the ebb and flow effect of the water. Perfectly short for speed voting. :) 110 s. Would be even more ace if you had to harvest the trees.

bongo227 2020-04-21 21:34

Amazing pixel art, looks great! I am not that great at platformers so it took me 386s :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. Some sound effects would have been nice, but overall a great submission!

huntrox 2020-04-21 21:37

really good art and gameplay checkpoints and how water drops reduces the torch strength is great Gj

snesgaard 2020-04-21 21:44

@jwiggs Yea, in hindsight that section would have been better at the last stage of the game.

@lars-erik Hmm interesting, harvest for food?

@bongo227 Nobody said the aim was to get the shortest completion time

lars-erik 2020-04-21 21:54

@snesgaard Harvest for new torch. Seemed weird the torch got more to burn by just being near fire. Tho food would be fun too. Berry bushes?

binary-coder 2020-04-21 22:17

Solid experience all around! Controls were good, art was cohesive and pretty nice. I appreciated the save points.

snesgaard 2020-04-22 19:57

@lars-erik I see, yes that would have interesting!

tygrak 2020-04-23 12:53

I completed the game in 93.1 seconds. Nice looking game. I really liked the player character art. The controls are good, which is very important for a 2d platformer. Good job on the game :).

devesh-sharma 2020-04-23 15:48

Really nice game with sweet graphics, Loved it

almagor 2020-04-23 19:03

Really nice control and smooth animations.

snesgaard 2020-04-23 19:04

@tygrak Ah that's pretty good! Developer time is about 60s for reference :)

@devesh-sharma Thanks, glad you liked it.

maumau 2020-04-23 20:50

The graphics and animations are really smooth and nice looking, and the concept is quite interesting. It just took me a few tries to realize there was water at the first platforms, maybe a little effect to them will do. Besides that, really enjoyable.

denis123 2020-04-24 15:06

Nice game, it was fun to play :) I only missed some sound effects.

capital-asterisk 2020-05-06 22:37

löve how this works on linux. My best (but not perfect) speedrun of this took 50.7 seconds. The graphical style and colours fit together pretty well.

On a technical level, I was somehow interested/concerned over the torch's particle system out of all things, and decided to pop open the source code. It already looks fine, but it caught my attention for some reason. I'm not sure what's going on in the code, but it seems there's some weirdness with that set_motion function. Anyways, I think that it would look nicer if the velocities of the existing particles were changed just as the player started/stopped moving.

snesgaard 2020-05-11 17:35

@capital-asterisk Haha yes agreed, sadly Löve's particle system doesn't update acceleration on existing particles, only newly spawning ones. As least as far as I know :v: Also damn that's better than the development time of 55 :O
