LD42 — Running out of space

Debris Trail by chromableedstudios 2021-04-27T15:48:00Z

I think the choice of a spaceship for a platformer was a bit confusing. It gave the impression to me as a player that I should fly, not jump. I'm not sure what the large blue things are or why they keep dissappearing.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep the Tree Alive by g12345 2020-05-06T17:49:14Z

I thought the game was a little confusing at first, once I figured out how it worked it was pretty fun. I would have enjoyed the robot standing out a bit more from the surrounding things. Did you implement an algorithm that ensures levels are solvable?

Sample X by Frederika 2020-04-21T10:06:32Z

The idea is interesting, but I didn't think it was very engaging. I'm mostly confused about the lack of a failure state. As far as I can tell there is no way to actually not keep it alive, so that kind of breaks the theme for me. I might change the description away from an idle game, because it isn't really idle, mostly just active clicking (although maybe there is content I'm missing how to unlock). I like the idea of the message board in the game!

Titanic The Internet's Cut by Scruffy 2020-04-23T18:48:16Z

Very funny game. The gameplay is also pretty good, I never felt cheated by the physics system. I might opt out of the Graphics category though, seeing as how most of your sprites seem to be just screenshots from the movie.

Sheepdog by ChatPion 2020-04-23T19:03:56Z

The game was fun, though the level design elements got a little repetitive. The dedicated bark button is great.

Dram Fireth by ded 2020-05-06T19:38:01Z

The art is great. I think the ending could have been explained better, without looking at the comments I would have considered the game bugged. I like it as a short narrative experience.

Econaut by tyranosaw 2020-04-23T20:41:02Z

The game looks great. The controls feel really natural and are fun to control. I got a little bored with the actual gameplay though. It felt like a lot of repetition. You have a great coherent visual design. I love the reference to Jormungandr.

Spud by siarck 2020-04-21T12:00:16Z

Came here to echo @oldknivestale's comment ^

A Healer's Tale by Space_man 2020-04-21T09:58:40Z

I think the game was pretty fun! Man do I hate that monk with a passion, but I'm guessing that is intentional. One way how it could be improved is to add some sort of feedback at the end of levels why the level is being skipped. I'm not sure whether the party members keep yelling at me in between levels because its part of the story, or because I'm hitting failure states. Just a 'Level complete' or 'Party Wipe' screen would have been helpful in that regard. I audibly laughed when the giant flying skull thinks people were being a bit harsh on the healer.

Computer Rat by Tybau 2020-05-06T19:30:04Z

Fun game! I strongly dislike the tutorial levels that you have to lose to progress though.

Tetris Life by jpv 2020-04-23T16:09:17Z

I really liked this game. The mashup of a life game and the tetris controls work really well, although the lack of rigid rotation made the Tetris elements of the game feel a bit pointless at times. Other than that though the game is simple to learn and fun to play, great job!

Focus, kid! by Necromic 2020-04-23T18:14:26Z

The game is short and sweet. The graphics are gorgeous and the music works well for the game. The ending screens are funny. The only downside to the game I can see is I think the connection to the theme is a little loose. Otherwise an amazing jam title!

Beelieve In Yourself by TheInkSkeleton 2020-05-08T12:27:58Z

I quite like the music. Especially impressive as it is your first music. I thought the level was a bit too large. I would have enjoyed a smaller level more with a higher density of obstacles. (A few technical notes: After holding forward for a while the bee doesn't turn anymore. The anchor of the bee is set a little to its right, making turning feel a bit weird.)

Feed Charles by mmmcgill1232 2020-04-21T12:10:38Z

Beautiful graphics and the gameplay loop is simple but enjoyable. I would have liked the tractor beam range to be a bit larger or harder to break. As it is now it requires a lot of clicking to take food down which can hurt your hand with extended play time. Charles is really cute, all the animations have a nice bouncy element to them. Great game!

Blossom Blaster by skitzogamer 2020-04-21T10:50:17Z

Nice game! I like the mix of cartoon and realism with the foreground and background. The shooting doesn't feel sluggish and switching between camping in the light and running out for water is a fun balancing act.

ChronoCat by Mustiman 2020-04-21T11:58:22Z

I had some difficulty figuring out what the game is supposed to be about. I tried ignoring the guy and didn't really find a failure state or something damaging him. The rewinding power could be interesting but doesn't seem to affect the game state in a meaningful way. The cat is cute though!

My Friendly Planet by Joule 2020-04-23T15:12:32Z

I like the game, though it is a bit too difficult for my liking. The gravity feels really fun to play around with, though I struggle with either being unable to use the black hole feature without instantly destroying earth or being able to use it but losing earth entirely. Good entry! I think this would work well as a standalone title when more polished.

The Land I Live On by Danilo Freire 2020-05-01T18:33:36Z

Really impressive that you found time to make the cinematics, added a whole lot to the atmosphere of your game. I found the game mechanics not a whole lot of fun, mostly just tedious. The level is well designed, and the art style looks great.

Party Bus Forever! by TopperVideoGames 2020-04-23T16:03:23Z

Great game! The music gives a good vibe and the party bus sprite adds a great deal to the humor of the game. The controls were a little confusing at first, I thought the wasd were controlling the bus, rather than the tiles I clicked. Once I understood though the game was a lot of fun!

Bébert and Gertrude against the Aliens by SylvainPV 2020-04-23T19:59:07Z

The loading screen might be broken sometimes on the web version? Also just as a heads up, you might want to opt out of the graphics section if you got your sprites from a marketplace.

Kill the Beast by limbo 2020-05-06T19:42:22Z

I like it as a short game. I think the beast was written nicely, quite likeable. The father could have used a bit more nuance / time to develop as a character. Great jam!

Robot Care by EpiphanyG 2020-04-25T14:19:15Z

Really adorable game. The gameplay is a bit simple, but the whole thing is well executed. Great job guys!

Neural by rroni 2020-05-06T19:08:08Z

Brilliant aesthetics and great polish. The mechanics were a bit unpredictable for me, so in the later levels I had to resort to brute forcing and eventually gave up.

Don't taste the lava by mira 2020-04-23T18:34:51Z

This is a great gam jame I think. There is a lot of content for it being in a short amount of time. There is also a lot of polish in the visuals. Great job!

Body Guards by Hcursino 2020-04-26T20:35:41Z

Great game, I didn't really like the gacha mechanic, but that's mostly personal preference. The third time I played the game it got a lot harder because my cardpool became less useless. Still the amount of content in the game is kinda crazy, good job!

Revenge of the Woods by Robonaut121 2020-05-08T12:36:37Z

I love the mechanic of having to move the heart of the forest to make new trees. The gameplay was a little repetitive. Just spam clicking until you were overrun. I would have liked a timer estimating how long the enemies take to get to your tree, so you know you can set up trees. In my first playthrough I rolled to the left until I found enemies to just explore and once they are right behind you you can't do anything about it because you have the same speed.

Ambulance chase by nick0124 creator 2020-04-27T15:12:07Z

The controls are a bit wonky, but that does add to the charm of the game. Graphics are cute. I think some more explanation would have been nice on why an ambulance is trying to destroy another car.

Last Healer by MoonRoll 2020-04-23T20:05:22Z

The art style is great. The idea for the game is fun, although I don't think the abilities are really balanced within eachother. The game is fun! It simulates being a healer in an rpg very well. Great entry!

My Pet Rock by GameGenesis 2020-04-21T21:45:03Z

The sounds design is amazing and immediately put me on edge. Great job on the mood in general!

Hold us Alive by Acerak 2020-04-21T12:02:55Z

Hey, you linked localhost in your HTML link. localhost isn't online, it's a link to your own machine. So it looks online to you, but if we don't already have your local site installed and running it just points to an empty place in our computer. You may want to check out a different way to host it such as itch.io!

Feast of blood by DanilShekarev 2020-04-21T10:42:40Z

Nice game! I really liked the tutorial. It's something thats easily left out, but without it I think the game would have been hard to play without it. Nice consistent visuals and mood, great job!.

Infermum by Brandon Gonzalez 2020-04-26T20:22:28Z

The tutorial level was a lot of fun. I think the game would have been more enjoyable if the popups with the controls would have stayed in the rest of the level. Other than that great jam entry!

Dino Volleyball by PoignantBanana 2020-04-23T20:31:56Z

The game looks great, you really show a coherent design. The game is fun, the indication where the ball will land make the game a lot easier, but also take out some of the challenge. I think the connection to the design is a little questionable though.

Super Ultimate Wave Defender by zagony2613 2020-04-23T19:15:50Z

The movement feels pretty great, very quake like. I was honestly a little dissapointed that did not come into play more. Your UI looks great and is very informative. The game was fun, although I would like to see just a little bit more difference between enemies. Something as simple as an enemy with health between the basic and the nuke would have been great. Overall the game was fun, great entry especially for your first 3D jam game .

Battle Box by Likai 2020-05-06T18:41:21Z

The controls were a little frustrating. I think it would have played better if Q and E rotated the turrets rather than just the cube. Other than that the game was pretty fun.

Keep It Charged by LaZZyDev72 2020-05-08T12:03:33Z

The game was fun! I would have enjoyed a bit more difficulty. Otherwise great entry!

Floccy Land by MikyDev 2020-05-08T12:13:42Z

First a few notes on the technical sides. You are missing a few colliders at the beginning of the level near that tunnel of bricks, which cause you to fall through the level and have to restart. If you restart the level by falling in the void at the end of the level the colliders for things you have picked up seem to be missing, so you are unable to pickup coins or seeds. The jumping feels a bit sluggish at times. I think the connection to the theme could have been stronger, the house where you start seems to be pretty alive, moreso than the area you are finding seeds from. However just completing a game like this for a jam is a good start. Maybe for your next jam try to set some more time aside for polishing!

LD46 By Kinto by Kinto 2020-04-25T12:40:32Z

I think the game has a lot of potential, although this version is a bit lacking. The swinging the sword around feels fun to control, however they are very ineffective against the enemies you implemented (if you actually try to swing it). In the end the only way I found to progress was to lay my sword on the ground and rapidly move it side to side. Which kind of took all the fun out of the controls for me. Other than that the art looks good and cohesive, the upgrades are pretty expansive and adding multiple weapons was a good touch. Nice job!

Train by bigassopper 2020-04-26T20:14:42Z

I didn't rate the game, because I couldn't figure out how to keep the game going. Picking up objects was difficult to select the one I wanted and I did not figure out which interaction kept the fire going.

Two Brot(h)ers - One and the other One by frokes 2020-04-21T10:29:26Z

The hand drawn art style is great! I think the brother looks a little too much like the enemies. It would have been nice to have some sort of UI to indicate that is what we have to protect. (Also a small note: the game seemed to crash when an enemy touches the little brother.) I think the shooting style was a little irritating, shooting in a different direction than your movement would be more fun I think. Otherwise great entry!

Spirit Of Dying by Sierpinski-Simon 2020-05-03T17:14:52Z

I like the art style of the game. The gameplay is simple, but the combination of the music and the UI made it quite tense. My favourite entry in the jam so far.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Drillromantik by pschichtel 2021-04-27T17:38:01Z

The game is nice! A lot of tiles implemented for a jam.

shaftception by testudor 2021-04-27T09:13:55Z

The game is fun! I was almost turned away by the sequence button obstacle, as I thought it was a piece of UI and that there was an invisible obstacle that was causing me to go gameover. Luckily Bentebent's comment caused me to reevaluate so I could play the game. I think some of the obstacles had just slightly too small area's of success which made the game more about memorization than reflexes. (Might just be my preference though). Other than those two hickups the game was fun, the art is nice and the music sounded good. All in all a good entry!

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-27T16:27:17Z

The idea is very innovative, though I think a lot of the level design could have been more lenient. Often I could see what I needed to do, but couldn't get the sword in just the right spot.

Some Great Cave Offensive by IkigaiSeitetsu 2021-04-27T13:00:01Z

This game has a lot of promise! The level design is very well done. You really get the most out of your mechanic. I do wish that the range of valid shots was a bit more lenient. Right now most screens are so busy you have to be really precise with how you click. As a small bug report: if you click while dying you are able to create a second character. At that point you are controlling two characters at once, which can make some screens unplayable! Otherwise I had fun playing, nice job!

Welldiver by DevEmil 2021-04-27T13:14:48Z

Your game is very polished! Your obstacles are well thought out and enemies are telegraphed incredibly well. A very nice entry.

Dante's Harvest by Wakobu 2021-04-29T18:22:40Z

I think this has great potential, but fell just short of really being fun. The art is very unique and the style feels very cohesive. The game feels incredibly polished. It just seems very difficult to the point of making it hard to play. I'm not sure if I am missing some mechanic, but it seems nearly impossible to keep up with the enemies.

In the very first level by the time I had gathered enough souls there were already so many enemies at the wagon that by the time I had placed some towers and cleared the wagon, the wagon was nearly destroyed and enemies would already start to overwhelm the towers. In the later levels I could barely survive long enough to get to the next layer as soon as the timer ran out.

I think the game has a ton of potential, but it was too hard to get into.

Greenception by AVAVT 2021-04-27T15:12:31Z

This game looks like it has a ton of potential! I think if you're developing it further it would be nice to give more of a ramp up to the amount of information you get. Currently it's really overwhelming with all the stats you get right off the bat. Other than that the game sounds chill, looks nice.

Tiny Dungeon by Swen 2021-04-27T12:52:17Z

Cool game! The visuals have a clear style giving the game a very cohesive look. I kept running into a bug where my weapon would stop stabbing. Other than that the game is incredibly polished for a game jam, nice job!

Tiny Dungeon by Swen 2021-04-27T13:23:19Z

@swen I'm having trouble reproducing the issue myself now. It was the basic weapon, definitely wasn't just on cooldown. For the rest of the dungeon the weapon would remain ineffective and I couldn't attack any enemies. I think it either happened when entering a room or when bumping into a slime (with the bug in question bumping into the slime wouldn't lose me any hearts). Sorry the feedback is a bit vague, luckily if the bug is rare enough I can't reproduce it it will likely not impact too many of your players :)

[WebGL/HTML5] Who am I? by leorid 2021-04-27T12:24:19Z

Fantastic puzzle game. The difficulty curve is great. The idea that you go deeper and deeper to get higher in the tower is pretty cute. Great job!

End of my Rope by Maytch 2021-04-27T12:45:30Z

The art is great, I like the 2D characters in the 3D space. The bow and gun feel great to use thanks to the amazing sound design and great visuals. The rope mechanic is very fun to use. The only feedback I have is that sometimes the enemies feel a little fast. The large porcupine thing definitely boxes you in at the start of the fight, a small telegraphing of that giving the player time to rope away would have been nice. But all in all this is an amazing jam title, I hope you all continue to work on this :)

Time to grow down by Hidjy 2021-04-27T09:57:54Z

An interesting idea, but I'm missing the gameplay aspect of this. Not sure if I'm missing some gameplay mechanics. If not, the visuals are nice and the mood is relaxing.

HOOKSHOT HELL by Moritz Jaeger 2021-04-27T16:03:05Z

I like the art style, the voice of the little helper guys sound cool, unfortunately the way the camera works makes me really motion sick so I can't really play it. Looks like it has potential though!

Little Lost Sheep by Hydezeke 2021-04-27T15:40:33Z

Nice art style, fantastic writing and lovely music. What an amazing jam entry. Good job folks!

Monday by Dobrila 2021-04-27T10:47:34Z

Great jam entry! I like the counter of the amount of infected. I don't quite know why, it just really adds to the fun of the game seeing your impact on the infection.

I think the gameplay gets a little bit repetitive at some point. Just because I was curious I kept playing until infected hit 0. After that there were still more zombies even after the counter hit zero, the next time you switch levels the game crashes.

Another thing that hampered the fun a bit is it was hard to discern the difference between walls and paths, because they are both flat. Early in the game I spent some levels running circles because the way I needed to go looked like a wall.

The art looks good, the mood is funny. All in all I like it.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but it won't stop me by limbo 2021-04-29T18:00:39Z

So I'm still not entirely sure if I missed a link in an ARG or you really are a new game dev :stuck_out_tongue:. But hey if you got this just based on a udemy course, completing a game jam is really difficult and you made a pretty finished product in a really short time. Don't be to hard on yourself.

LD48 by Zivfo 2021-04-27T10:23:03Z

Great game! The gameplay is fun and surprisingly in depth for a game jam. I think the random events add a lot to the gameplay and I think you use them very effectively to create more interesting gameplay with the least amount of added mechanics. The dialogue is sometimes a bit goofy but I suspect that might be a language barrier. So far one of my favourite games in the jam!

One thing I might mention if you use sound effects that you didn't create yourself you might want to uncheck the audio category.

The Canary by Jorim 2021-04-27T09:26:46Z

@iak I think this might be poor communication on the part of my design! Only the light stone blocks can be mined. I tried to make the sound effects of hard stone being mined sound like a pickaxe 'bouncing off' ineffective though that wasn't very clear. Thanks for playing!

The Canary by Jorim 2021-04-27T10:51:54Z

@mero Yes, unfortunately I was a bit short on time so that ending was supposed to be more animated. The idea behind it is your character breaks down the bunker door. Due to time constraint the animations / interactivity of that were a bit lost so I just froze the character and played the voice lines. Thanks for playing!

The Canary by Jorim 2021-04-27T10:53:03Z

@theheheo Thanks for the feedback! I don't have a ton of experience with 2D platformers, so that is useful feedback. For my next jam I might brush up a bit on ways to make the movement feel more responsive. Thanks for playing!

The Canary by Jorim 2021-04-27T15:41:15Z

@swen Yup you got them all :). I was gunning to make a third ending, but ran out of time unfortunately. Thanks for playing!

Aquaphobia by Szenos 2021-04-27T09:05:30Z

Fits the theme well! It's a shame you didn't include yourself in the humor catagory as I think you're writing was quite funny. It's a shame the dialogue triggers were overlapping a bit, which made me miss a bunch of it!

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-04-27T09:51:39Z

I'm not sure if I encountered a bug or am missing something about the controls. I can move around the tutorial room and whack the target dummy, but if I try to interact with the chest I only get a popup stating "gold collected 0" This keeps popping up when interacting with the chest and after this I can't leave the tutorial room. Therefore I couldn't really play the game.

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-04-30T06:44:24Z

@spadekhemoglobiny Alright I went back to play it. Interacting with the door didn't really occur to me, I assumed walking into it meant it was locked. I think the game is very polished, but could do with a bit more challenge. Currently as long as you keep pressing spacebar there isn't much choice in the game. Besides that it's a nice, polished entry! Well done!

CURSED QUEST by Freezerbot 2021-04-27T09:01:10Z

Great game! I love the animations on both the player and the monsters. Very satisfying and all in all the game has a great visual style. The UI is very clear and nicely designed. The only thing that I think can be improved might be the difficulty of later levels. A lot of my runs at level 4-5 a mummy or scarab hit me before I land or can see the floor. The scarab's AI is either a bit buggy at time or really hard to parse. But besides those minor gripes the game was fun enough that I came back multiple times to play it! I'm really impressed that you managed to implement multiple powerups as well (although for one of them I have no idea what they do). Also the glowing red eyes when doing magic is a really nice touch!

Deeper Faster by vikaster 2021-04-27T12:30:42Z

Great job for a first jam! The gameplay is still a bit rough, for a platformer ideally you have a lot of control over your character and can clearly tell how the platforms work. From the bit I played the character is sometimes hard to control and platforms are either unclear whether they are solid or are a bit buggy. I like the rainbow blob animation.
