LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Manic Miner by ryannielson 2021-05-02T08:19:30Z

One of my favourite games from this jam for sure, there is just something about it that I really like but don't know how to describe. I like that you stuck to the really minimalist art style. I tried doing that as well, but I didn't do as good a job as you did. The only thing I can nitpick is that the highscore system doesn't seem to work, at least for the html5 version of the game. Tremendous Work!

Blub blub Ottersub by Jordgubben 2021-05-02T11:40:43Z

The game is alright although I would suggest some changes. Add some visual feedback when you have caught a photo of a fish, for exampe add a popup above the player. Second, i would make the zoom be slowly regulated by z, and not just shoot out to max or to min when you press it. I also found the way you have to take the photo of the moray to be quite confusing, because the only way to do it that I could think of was to do it through the wall with zoom.

The Incredible Adventures of Oleg by Nikolay Zapolnov 2021-04-27T19:44:00Z

I find the whole concept funny and cute! The main thing that I didn't like was the movement system. I would make the tile grid more visible and maybe make the player move through UI and not WASD. Other than that nice job!

Nuclear blaze by deepnight 2021-04-27T09:36:34Z

Feels very polished and the graphics are gorgeous, can't believe this was made in 48 hours. I found putting out the fires really satisfying espiecially when they were just in a straight line. I would like to see an ending in the future!

Fish'n'Ship by tipyx 2021-04-27T13:54:13Z

I like it. In the beggining it feels like a clicker game, where you just have to get as much gold and upgrade your stuff, but then once you are all geared up there is a nice challenge to reaching the bottom, took me a couple of tries. One thing I would like to point out is that I enocountered a bug where if move a crewmate on and off the ghost module, it stops working for the rest of the run.

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-27T09:09:20Z

I love everything about this. The gameplay is similar to Getting Over It, but has it's own twist on it. I also really liked the fact that you can skip the previous sections once your sword gets longer. The game is very polished and challenging, and I managed to beat it in 25 minutes. The only thing that I can say something bad about (which is really a nitpick) is that I found a bug that speeds up the player idle animation when you switch windows, although it goes away once you move again. Terrific Job!

Depths of Darvaza by ghost-in-the-toast 2021-04-29T12:40:00Z

The main thing I found annoying is that the movement feels a bit 'floaty'. Other than that I love the music, and the mood of the game

Depths of Darvaza by ghost-in-the-toast 2021-04-30T07:13:30Z

@conduit what i meant by my comment is that it feels like walking on ice, once you stop moving you don't fully stop but kinda glide on the ground for a bit, but maybe that was intentional

Humble Miner by west 2021-04-27T22:12:12Z

calming little game, only the UI needs some more work

Archlike by Ayced 2021-04-27T11:18:54Z

Needs more polishing, but overall the concept feels nice. I would remove the dash on the attack, since it feels kinda unecessary and it often would just put me in more danger.

Healer Simulator by Don Fouts 2021-04-27T22:16:38Z

Never thought that playing the role of the healer could be so much fun! The art style is cool, and I love, I mean LOVE the chat addition, very funny and unique!

A Quest for Cheese by Sibi 2021-05-02T11:50:54Z

Made me question my existence. There is a surprising ammount of content here, so well done on that! The game could use a volume slider though, because for me the audio was too loud. I wish there was a way to manipulate the asteroids, this would allow to avoid having to just fly through a barrage of bullets or make it easier to avoid rockets. The audio was top-notch lol. Good job!

Ascending Dungeon by BenPeterson 2021-04-29T19:01:16Z

This is good fun. There is a good ammount of variety and I didn't encounter any bugs, it's quite polished. The only improvement I can think of would maybe to add some music and make what's going on a bit more transparent. What I mean by that is maybe add some screen shake when the player takes damage, make the sound effect louder and make the number pop up stand out more

Gem Raiders by Hare Software 2021-04-29T19:15:38Z

This game is quite fun and very polished. It could have used some background music though, because at first, I thought that the game had no audio at all, and then I got attacked by enemies and almost got a heart attack, so thanks for that lol

Billy's Gone Again by KingOfNova 2021-04-29T18:48:00Z

So, I will start with the things I didn't like. First of all, I think that the lighting is too bright in some parts of the map, and so is the flamethrower, which made it hard to see what's going on on the screen (but maybe that was intentional to make the weapon a bit more riskier to use). I also would have liked a reload button, since it annoyed me that I couldn't reload my guns before a fight lol. Another thing with the reload, is that I would put the indicator above the player instead of on the mouse, since it was kinda hard to keep track of it since I was moving it around all the time. I was going to write that the randomness of the cactus enemies' projectiles made them easier to dodge, but after playing for a bit more I realised that this is actually quite the opposite, which is a plus. Other than that I really love the atmosphere of this game, I've got a thing for humoristic western games, like west of loathing which this game reminded me of. The music, visuals and SFX are on point as well. Amazing job pardners

Mineshaft Muddle by Luther-1 2021-04-29T12:24:14Z

The only thing i didn't like is that the ui was a bit confusing, other than that good job!

Clockwork Abyss by Alexascher 2021-04-29T20:14:05Z

I really enjoyed the game, from the audio, the mood to the gameplay. I found the upgrade system quite unique and fun to keep track of. The only thing I found somewhat annoying is that sometimes you just don't have enough time to take down the fish you're about to run into and you just feel helpless. To fix that I would maybe add a feature that when you hit a fish, it gets staggered. Other than that very fun!

grem by zzox 2021-05-02T12:06:39Z

I wouldn't call the game challenging but it was quite fun lol. I really liked the audio, probably my favourite part of the game. As the description said it was pretty short so that was a shame but you obviously had limited time. Overall I like it!

Deep Wild Trip by Ignacio Lorda 2021-04-29T19:35:22Z

Def needs some more polishing, like making damaging the enemies more prominent, or fix up the textures, because I ran into some trees that were cut in half and some missing floor textures. I would also make the view cone a bit bigger for such a large map

CAVE CRAVLER by NoobHereo 2021-05-02T12:16:11Z

Was quite fun. I like that you allowed the player to choose which spell to use. Gameplay was straightforward, but as people before me have said, the pickups are confusing. Also I would have liked to get more visual feedback when i hit an enemy, for example make them flash white or knock them back when they are hit. I think the audio and visuals are nice. Good job!

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-04-29T19:46:06Z

@timujin thanks for the feedback, will definitely try to do something about this

@jorim did you try interacting with the door to the right?

@extar I'm glad you enjoyed the way I explained the controls, and yeah as I said I will make the game more fast-paced

@parkuhrmd interesting suggestion, will think it through. I will admit that the combat system is quite janky because I wasted too much time on some other things. Thank you for the feedback

@volkolak I will definitely add some, thanks for the feedback

@imyellowfish Thanks! I will try to add some more variety

@bhaa-su I'm happy game good!

@chimyx I will definitely try to merge the controls as you've said, I don't know how I didn't notice that lol. And yeah aobut the coins mechanic, I didn't really know what to do with it so it ended up just being there, but your suggestion is something to consider. Thank you very much for the feedback!

@sinusquell Thanks! I would have probably made it a bit faster, but the problem wasn't not having enough time, it was just that I didn't really know what to do at first, and ended up changing the gameplay loop like three times lol

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-04-30T07:09:50Z

@jorim I'm glad you figured it out. I actually wanted to make it so that walking into a door would transport you between rooms, but I just couldn't get it to feel right

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-05-02T13:10:52Z

@hare-software thanks for the feedback! I implemented some of your suggestions, and I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial area!

@taximan981 Yeah this difficulty was unintentional but I ended up killing myself like that too when playtesting lol. I'm happy you like the game!

@mortalslayer24 Thank you!

@crispybun Those were the games I took inspiration from! Thanks for mentioning the gameplay loop, I know about this issue and I will try to make it more interesting.

@huntrox Thanks!

@escapade It actually had a timer in the beginning, but I couldn't get the animation to sync up so I had to ditch it. But now as I have more time I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the feedback!

Templooter by spadekHemoglobiny 2021-05-03T20:19:23Z

@xariusexcl Oooh so that's where these characters come from. I used them as inpiration for mine, so that's probably why it reminded you of that game lol. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely change that, but would a capsule be better? And also if you don't mind that I ask, can you give me an example on how I could add more variety to the attacks? Anyway, thank you for the feedback!

Blue Abyss by Alpha Wolf Studios 2021-04-27T08:15:34Z

As everyone before me has said, there is an impressive ammount of mechanics, although some felt somewhat janky, for example upgrading the vision and reparation didn't work. It's a shame that the how to play tab doesn't actually show anything(at least it was like that for me), but once i figured out the game's mechanics I found it quite nice and completed it.

Kerene by jabsatz 2021-04-29T12:53:51Z

I wish there was more variety in the paths you can take through the destructible terrain, but other than that was quite fun

Insane in the Membraine by PotatoMcMan 2021-05-02T11:59:38Z

I had fun! The music was pretty funny and the platforming was nice. A thing that could be changed is to make the first enemy you encounter be able to detect if he's walking on ground or not, because it looked odd when I opened the gate and the enemy was walking on the air. Good job!

Lost Light by The_G 2021-05-02T12:28:51Z

Very funny game, I think the music was perfect lol. The things I found annyoing is that the player moved a bit too slow and it was really hard to get into the hole that transported you to the next level if you didn't jump. Also it would be cool if there was sound for walking and jumping, would greatly add to the mood of the game. Nice entry!

Hell's Gift Shop by CmdrApollo 2021-04-29T19:26:10Z

I liked the sound effects the most I think lol. Only thing I'd change is that when the player runs out of energy, make him unable to move for a few seconds before ending the game, because I had a couple of situations, where I flew just above an energy orb and I would have fallen into it and recovered my energy, but the game ended so that was somewhat annoying. Other than that nice job!

Null_byte by XariusExcl 2021-05-03T21:08:17Z

I found the time going down slower and slower the deeper you go a very interesting concept. I would like to see it explored more! I really liked the mood of this, the only thing that put me off was that the static was a bit too loud and too harsh for me. Nice entry!

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

The Fain Maiden by bwalter 2022-04-15T09:31:07Z

The atmosphere as everyone before me has mentioned is lovely and it's very impressive you managed to finish the game during the jam, congrats! I don't think I quite understood the fighting mechanics of the game, sometimes the enemies would be crouched and I would hit them while standing to no effect, making their silhouettes a bit easier to read would help because now mostly they look just like blobs of pixels. Also game closes on pressing escape and that caught me in a bit of a surprise lol. Other than that really fun, I enjoyed how you turned 2d pixel art into 3d graphics

Against The Horde by almost 2022-04-14T09:38:40Z

Really unique idea for a survival game, I'm usually not much into deck builders but this one was actually fun for me! I think just some more sound effects would go a long way to strengthen the mood of the game, for example a sound effect when you meet a doctor or when you alert a monster. Tremendous job!

Devil of Destiny by Fatsheep 2022-04-04T18:19:10Z

Although the game feels a bit barebones as you mentioned, I actually had quite a bit of fun! The devil sounds and looks imposing as it should, and the gameplay feels nice. I would like to see more demanding attacks, like for example one that you only can dodge with a slide and so on. Congrats!

Cleric Wanted by Garazbolg2 2022-04-04T17:48:52Z

It's really impressive that you were able to put this together in two days. I also noticed the bug with the guild screen showing additional empty slots, which was probably due to lack of time. Overall the game just needs some polish but other than that I had fun

Insufficient Supper by greymouth 2022-04-10T20:21:27Z

I found a bug where if you use an ingredient crate on the place where you put out your dishes it freezes the game. Other than that I found it a bit confusing to find out what to do after the tutorial, maybe you could explain it a bit better. The thing that really stood out for me was the pixel art, some nice stuff there!

Out of Air by Steven Garberg 2022-04-05T17:36:07Z

I would make the walls more slippery to compliment the floaty movement you were going for, it would make so that the player doesn't get stuck on them as much

My Story by Ausstein 2022-04-05T17:52:15Z

I did not expect to like the game initially as I actually did! Your take on the theme and the story was really clever and while the gameplay was a bit simple I think you did a great job!

Extremely Exteme Sports by kuviman 2022-04-04T18:25:15Z

More fun than I expected! I really enjoyed the fact that the game is multiplayer and the character customization, I could see myself playing this with my friends!

Last Stand by XeduR 2022-04-14T08:32:02Z

I had more fun with this than I expected. It's a simple and polished game. The only things I have to criticize is that the highscore font was a bit hard to read for me lol. Great job!

Word Wizard by Slecornu 2022-04-15T08:50:59Z

I had a lot of fun with the game! What I found to be confusing is keeping track of which word is first in the queue of enemies once more than 3 start appearing on the screen, so it would be nice if you made it more clear, like highlight the text or something. Other than that really polished game with fun dictionary changes and adjustable difficulty!

Operation: Cable Jumper by Mr.KitKat 2022-04-05T17:31:36Z

Tremendous job! I had a lot of fun and I also enjoyed the elegant design of the enemies. They were simple but each enemy played a different role that made me adjust my playstyle. The credits were also a nice touch. The only bug I found is that if you hold down a movement button while moving from section to section, it will consume energy, whereas if you don't, it doesn't consume any. Other than that the game is very polished, plays great and looks great.

It's gonna be ok. by MarcoDeevil 2022-04-10T20:09:09Z

I got the good ending I think, nice idea!

Keep It Up! by iDunnyX 2022-04-14T09:23:01Z

I'm no longer a child and I still do that when I get a balloon near me

Berserk by NoobHereo 2022-04-04T17:59:05Z

The game needs a lot of polish, like some sort of indication when you hit the enemy, improving the fighting system. The fact that this game has a level editor is very impressive but I think you should've just stuck to making the core gameplay loop feel as good as possible. Anyways good job

Frantic Alchemist by spadekHemoglobiny 2022-04-04T17:03:10Z

@yamzho you're supposed to press space at the end, that's how you throw the potion. I wanted to see if I could teach the player the controls without adding any text. Thanks for the feedback!

@squaxcom yeah it's so that the game fits the theme, you can't stop the curse, just delay it. Thank you!

Frantic Alchemist by spadekHemoglobiny 2022-04-05T17:10:59Z

@holysparks I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, I will make the game more challenging. I will probably also add some sound effects, I just couldn't be bothered to make them during the jam lol. Thank you for the feedback!

@andy-beers Thanks for the feedback!

@kewdev Thanks!

@eaglev Thank you, I will do something about the difficulty curve.

@payaosito I'm happy that you will like it, I will look into making the tutorial less confusing

@elimarable I will take that into account, thank you for your feedback!

Gladiatorus by Pepper Boi 2022-04-17T18:49:59Z

The fighting system and gameplay felt reeally good and polished. With a score system and more enemy variation it would make quite and engaging game, good job!

Fading Crown by Fer Gueler 2022-04-14T09:20:25Z

I'm just going to list out the things that I would change: - make the platforms a bit 'slippery' on the sides, so that when you are falling and try to move into a platform you slide off the side of it rather to just getting caught on it - make the kings hitbox just a tiny bit smaller, I thought it was too big when I was trying to dash around enemies - some sound effects would go a long way, for example one for when you land or when you attack - add knockback to the enemies when you hit them - make the game pause and then play the death animation when you die to avoid weird clipping problems with it - make the player be able to unpause the game with escape I know that is a lot of things but don't get me wrong, the game you were able to make in this time frame is quite impressive, props for you for that!

Nuts and Volts by MeeseAgainstHumanity 2022-04-14T10:10:20Z

Great job, I found it hard to tell whether i actually hit an enemy or not, so I would add some sort of indicator for when your shots connect and make the dodge a bit more snappy, because right now I feel there is too much delay between the input and the actual dodge so I preferred to just strafe around the enemies

Reckless Reaper by twinkietalks 2022-04-10T20:35:16Z

It has a really nice retro vibe to it!

Snowcastle Meltdown by Noiyy 2022-04-14T10:00:10Z

Nice simple game, just needs some polish. For example the ice timers would show up on the main map instead of just in the caves and the transition system from a cave to the main map is a bit buggy as well, sometimes it would play the transition in the wrong time
