Wonderful art style. I love the parallax, atmospheric projection and orange accents on greyscale. Really good stuff. Game feel is also good but the hits on the enemy don't feel great, maybe the enemy needs to register the hit more clearly?

This is a very solid title, well done.

I love the art! the controlls where a little finicky but otherwise no complaints. i couldnt get far enough to see the whole game but the vibes are imaculate. the background music is a bop. well done overall!

Incredible art style and atmosphere! I loved the art direction and the world that you built. The grey midtones with the orange contrasted perfectly. Creature designs are on point too, I think the walking golems (or whatever they are) with trees on their head is now my favorite enemy design in any 2d platformer game. Honestly if this is tweaked a bit more and fleshed out fully I would buy this game. I do have a few gripes however. I felt less like the difficulty was increasing and more like the game was punishing me for playing which is not a good incentive. In fact I didn't even finish the game because as it went on the difficulty just became frustrating. I do feel like given enough time I could "get gud" but it doesn't quite seem balanced or fair. To this point, spoiler warning: after getting the first flower and losing the ability to attack, it seemed counterintuitive to the player. Also sometimes the controls would stop working, I would be unable to move or double jump anymore. I hope it doesn't seem like I'm bagging on this game because honestly I loved it! The music kicking up right when you past that first section was brilliant, the fact that there were multiple areas to explore, and the controls feeling very responsive are all wins in my book. I genuinely hope you continue on this project or a spiritual successor because this was incredible!

Really unique game! The fantasy vibe really makes it stand out compared to other submissions, and the art style and music are gorgeous and set a really nice atmosphere. It was also interesting how getting the first flower made you lose your ability to attack. However, the fact that you could only attack directly left or right made combat in the more platform-heavy areas really difficult, and it was nigh-impossible to dodge past the faster enemies. Despite this, it was still a really enjoyable game!

@plixel Thanks for your feedback! We are really glad you liked it, and it does have a lot of polishing and tweking to do

metus 2022-04-05 12:28

@david-york Thanks! Really glad you liked the art ^^

@indiepixel Thanks! The controls are definately finicky hahaha

Nice game! Echoing the sentiments of other people who have already commented. I think the game would have benefitted greatly from a checkpoint system. But the art and sound were fantastic, and the game was huge, challenging, and the variety of areas was very impressive. Good job!

This was an amazing entry. I really liked the art work and the music was very catchy. I liked the trailing effect your character had during their movement and jumping. I would have liked to hear a bit of sound / chunkiness from the attacking animations, but that is such a minor nit pick! Keep going with it, I would love to play it again if you ever attempt to add more.

A very beautifull game ! I gave up because of difficult controls but I regret not seeing more !

First off, the artwork is simply outstanding. The backgrounds are beautiful, and the enemy designs are creative and inspiring. On the flipside, losing the abilities makes it feel like there's a specific order I should've collected the flowers in, but did it wrong, and it's near impossible to avoid death when you can't fight. Jumping over the tree golems is pretty precise, especially without a double jump. I initially lost the jump, then the sword, and I got softlocked while going for the final flower. I hit a lava droplet and fell into a white screen.

On that note, the lava droplets looks like decorative background elements, so it really caught me off guard when that's what killed my run. I think forcing the player to sacrifice their move-set is a really creative idea, but I feel like it could've been executed a bit better. Perhaps if it was more obvious that you can jump over the tree golems, or if their hitbox was smaller then it would be more forgiving, but in its current state losing the sword before any other moves is a huge mistake, and there's no indication of that before you lose it.

The background music, like the artwork, was fantastic and it really helped set the mood. Plus, having greyscale colors and a single chromatic color, in this case orange, was a REALLY great decision. The art style stands out so much over other games. Great work.

@100th-coin Thanks for the awesome feedback, very useful, I agree with every word you said :) Glad you enjoyed it.

Wow breathtaking art and music in this game. The gameplay feel is pretty good, though there are several platforms that seem like they're in reach but are just out of reach. Would love to have some sound effects in here too to add to the feel of the attack. Overall really brilliant!

fer-gueler 2022-04-08 09:54

@matt-rice thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Sound effect were left out because of a last minute bug :(. I've found a couple of platforms with that problem, I'll need to check all of them for the little update we are planning.

zozol 2022-04-09 22:46

loved the atmosphere of this one, actually made me interested in the world shown here. as mentioned before, some platforms are frustrating because it seems they're out of reach, so i'm waiting for the update!

The audio. Dear god, the audio. IT goes so well with the art and the mood it's insane. One of the best LD50 games for sure.

orionhart 2022-04-14 08:48

Unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of this one. I thought the environment art is awesome! Other than that, the music didn't fit, the enemies and character art felt inconsistent with the environment, and there wasn't a lot of 'feedback' from hitting enemies, getting hit, etc. I appreciate what you made, but felt you didn't put enough attention on the things that were needed for a clean player experience.

spadekhemoglobiny 2022-04-14 09:20

I'm just going to list out the things that I would change: - make the platforms a bit 'slippery' on the sides, so that when you are falling and try to move into a platform you slide off the side of it rather to just getting caught on it - make the kings hitbox just a tiny bit smaller, I thought it was too big when I was trying to dash around enemies - some sound effects would go a long way, for example one for when you land or when you attack - add knockback to the enemies when you hit them - make the game pause and then play the death animation when you die to avoid weird clipping problems with it - make the player be able to unpause the game with escape I know that is a lot of things but don't get me wrong, the game you were able to make in this time frame is quite impressive, props for you for that!

zimny11 2022-04-14 16:14

Really beautiful pixel art and super nice music! I wish there were sound effects for attacks. The hit boxes feels a bit off, but besides that awesome platformer :)

chairshot-games 2022-04-14 16:59

Really good game! The art and music are probably the best I've seen so far. The platforming is very fun too. I wish that there were save points, so I didn't have to walk all the way back every time I died, but that's really just a small thing. A cool thing for a post-jam version would be to add aging as a mechanic, not sure what that would be exactly, but if the goal is to delay aging it seems like the player aging if you don't collect a feather for a while could be interesting. Also, you should put the music on itch as an mp3 because I'd listen to it. Excellent work!
