Feels really slow-paced for such an idea. But otherwise pretty enjoyable

jorim 2021-04-27 09:51

I'm not sure if I encountered a bug or am missing something about the controls. I can move around the tutorial room and whack the target dummy, but if I try to interact with the chest I only get a popup stating "gold collected 0" This keeps popping up when interacting with the chest and after this I can't leave the tutorial room. Therefore I couldn't really play the game.

volkolak 2021-04-27 09:52

Graphics look cute, wish there were more visuals from the impact. Nice game anyway!

extar 2021-04-27 09:53

I like the pixelart graphics, they give the game a lot of personality. I can see how the game could get more frantic as more enemies start to appear, but the start of the game is very slow paced. The opening screen which explained the controls was a nice touch too. :)

parkuhrmd 2021-04-27 09:58

The art direction is really good! Love the pixel look and the colors!

I think the enemies could have used some attack wind up. Taking damage by running into enemies resulted in me just standing at a distance while mashing space bar so I wouldn't get hurt. I think the game would feel a lot faster if charging into an enemy was more encouraged, or if there was some way of regaining health :)

imyellowfish 2021-04-27 10:03

Nice graphics, Smooth playing, Also the sound effect isn't bad bro! Wish there are more variety of enemies and mechanics!

bhaa-su 2021-04-27 10:18

Not enough some light music, but the game still good and looks cute.

chimyx 2021-04-27 10:34

That was fun!

I initially thought that having the chest display the max number of collected coins instead of the total would have been more interesting with those rogue-like mechanics.

But then I reached the end and the game became going to the last room and collecting coins, bringing them up, going back again, which is nice too.

I'm not fond of using the mouse button to confirm dialogs in a game whose controls doesn't use the mouse. Interacting with dialogs with the keyboard would have been nice. Also, I wonder if the two controls (E and space) could have been merge into a single key.

:D

Really chill game with a very pleasnat pixel-art graphics. Enjoyable, responsive controls, 21/37

sinusquell 2021-04-29 14:51

Nice entry! It felt kind of slow/grindy for this type of game, but obviously you didn't have much time. It looks pretty good and the sound effects are on point :)

spadekhemoglobiny 2021-04-29 19:46

@timujin thanks for the feedback, will definitely try to do something about this

@jorim did you try interacting with the door to the right?

@extar I'm glad you enjoyed the way I explained the controls, and yeah as I said I will make the game more fast-paced

@parkuhrmd interesting suggestion, will think it through. I will admit that the combat system is quite janky because I wasted too much time on some other things. Thank you for the feedback

@volkolak I will definitely add some, thanks for the feedback

@imyellowfish Thanks! I will try to add some more variety

@bhaa-su I'm happy game good!

@chimyx I will definitely try to merge the controls as you've said, I don't know how I didn't notice that lol. And yeah aobut the coins mechanic, I didn't really know what to do with it so it ended up just being there, but your suggestion is something to consider. Thank you very much for the feedback!

@sinusquell Thanks! I would have probably made it a bit faster, but the problem wasn't not having enough time, it was just that I didn't really know what to do at first, and ended up changing the gameplay loop like three times lol

preda 2021-04-29 20:14

I really love how simple the entire game is. The graphics are really nice and they work well although I would've went further if there was more to it

jorim 2021-04-30 06:44

@spadekhemoglobiny Alright I went back to play it. Interacting with the door didn't really occur to me, I assumed walking into it meant it was locked. I think the game is very polished, but could do with a bit more challenge. Currently as long as you keep pressing spacebar there isn't much choice in the game. Besides that it's a nice, polished entry! Well done!

spadekhemoglobiny 2021-04-30 07:09

@jorim I'm glad you figured it out. I actually wanted to make it so that walking into a door would transport you between rooms, but I just couldn't get it to feel right

hare-software 2021-04-30 17:11

This is quite a consistent game that is really easy to play. If you want to continue building unto this sweet old school vibe I would personally get rid of mouse controls and I would make moving between rooms automatic. Using button prompts would also help. The tutorial area is smart though and very clear, just like having the first room be a room to learn the mechanic of opening the door. Hope you get to work more on it, best of luck!

taximan981 2021-05-02 00:13

It's a cool game, you think it's easy but then you get inpatient waiting for them to spawn for gold and end up killing yourself trying to spawn kill them. Cool idea, I think it would be so much more fun if the zombies tried to overwhelm you with numbers. Or maybe they do, but I kept dying at the early levels waiting for them to spawn

mortalslayer24 2021-05-02 11:34

Great game, Loved the art style!

crispybun 2021-05-02 12:37

I love the idea! It reminds me a bit of Soul Knight or Enter the Gungeon. Though the gameplay loop isn't very fun, and it's repetitve. It's just a matter of mashing spacebar lol. But as a prototype, it's really cool, and I think has some good potential :d gj!

huntrox 2021-05-02 12:39

very nice graphics

escapade 2021-05-02 13:03

Fun game, nice pixel art, very polished, although it felt a bit short. Also, I feel like the attack should have a timer or something, I shouldn't be able to just kill everyone and not take damage by spamming the space bar.

spadekhemoglobiny 2021-05-02 13:10

@hare-software thanks for the feedback! I implemented some of your suggestions, and I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial area!

@taximan981 Yeah this difficulty was unintentional but I ended up killing myself like that too when playtesting lol. I'm happy you like the game!

@mortalslayer24 Thank you!

@crispybun Those were the games I took inspiration from! Thanks for mentioning the gameplay loop, I know about this issue and I will try to make it more interesting.

@huntrox Thanks!

@escapade It actually had a timer in the beginning, but I couldn't get the animation to sync up so I had to ditch it. But now as I have more time I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the feedback!

xariusexcl 2021-05-03 17:47

The game looks really good! I got some RotMG vibes from it :) Would be awesome if enemies and attacks had more variety and speed, I would love the feeling of diving deeper in that temple with many enemies and having to strategize to make it out alive... Quick tip, use a circle collider for your player, It will help if you decide to make levels with a lot of corners or tight corridors!

spadekhemoglobiny 2021-05-03 20:19

@xariusexcl Oooh so that's where these characters come from. I used them as inpiration for mine, so that's probably why it reminded you of that game lol. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely change that, but would a capsule be better? And also if you don't mind that I ask, can you give me an example on how I could add more variety to the attacks? Anyway, thank you for the feedback!

wetburritosupreme 2021-05-05 17:17

Good job with the pixel art, more audio and effects could have taken this to the next level, but otherwise well polished game!
