A bit hard to understand what to do at first, could use some instructions. The graphics are pretty, I love the designs of the fishes! Though I could see the seam of some sprites, unfortunately.

I couldn't manage to take a picture of the Eel, and so the max. money I got was 450 pounds. Because of that, I couldn't get any deeper and explore the rest.

If you have time to help with that, I'd be happy to review the game again later :-)

jordgubben 2021-04-26 16:20

@xlabein Thank you for playing!

We've added controls to the description. (I was so tired when we handed in our submission that I completely forgot that) Hope this helps.

Couldn't really figure out what to do here -- a little crosshair showed up when I pressed space, but it didn't seem to do anything when I positioned it over a fish. Z also didn't appear to do anything that I could tell. I thought it would change the range at which the camera crosshair would appear.

Nice little game! Would be great to see visual feedback on taking correct photos. Inky looks dangerous :) Good entry!

spadekhemoglobiny 2021-05-02 11:40

The game is alright although I would suggest some changes. Add some visual feedback when you have caught a photo of a fish, for exampe add a popup above the player. Second, i would make the zoom be slowly regulated by z, and not just shoot out to max or to min when you press it. I also found the way you have to take the photo of the moray to be quite confusing, because the only way to do it that I could think of was to do it through the wall with zoom.

Don`t understand what to do

itskdog 2021-05-02 12:02

Nice job. Need more content though. Maybe add more fish. There also should be some feed back when you take the picture. Maybe a screen would pop up and show you a picture of the fish.

jordgubben 2021-05-02 12:42

@spadekhemoglobiny @retrome @itskdog Thank you for playing providing feedback. We've talked about making the sea creatures blink when they are photographed, like they where hit by flash. Might be something we do for a post-jam version.

**vv - Heartstrokes - vv**

- Cute graphs - Otter <3 - Follows well the theme both in the base gameplay and with the upgrades allowing you to basically, go deeper

**vv - Improvements - vv**

- Mainly the photo mechanic needs feedback, like you should have something to confirm you that you *do* correctly take the photo of a fish (and also when you just take a bad photo) - The music loop is reaaaaaaly short so it becomes quite agressive after a few minutes, but tbh it's also a good thing that you achieved to add a music, even really short. - Impossible to reach the nasty eel on the left, so we can't get the money to get the 3rd upgrade :'(

= =

That it! Despite those rough things, that are of course normal in a non-pro jam, I find the idea really chill and cute, and I want to point out that a really nice effort overall. You have a working base gameplay, graphs, music, and even if it's all rough, it's really... hmmm. " :3 " (I don't find the right word eh). Big Bravo to you for this effort ! Hope to see you continue a little the idea and polish it after the jam o/

Good job

I loved the otter and the concept of your game (it fits perfectly the theme). I agree with the feedback of the photo shoot (a sound is the easiest way). You should add a screen explaining that you have to go above the surface to get new equipments.

I hope you continue to develop it

Sorry, I too failed to figure this one out! ☚ī¸ Haven't rated yet, wanna see if I missed something first. I read the comments but not helping unfortunately. Got no money no matter what I tried. Where is the fish supposed to be in relation to the otter, the light, the crosshairs, for the photo to be accepted? 😅

junebug 2021-05-02 19:47

Nice work! Like others have said, some feedback on if you actually got a picture or not would have been good. Nice work with the light being blocked by objects, I imagine that was a challenge. Cute game!

jordgubben 2021-05-03 17:53

@junebug Thank you for playing!

The shadows are actually a come with Godot engine, so they where among the easier things in the game.

jordgubben 2021-05-03 17:55

@ava-skoog Hey, long time no see! Thanks for playing the game.

A lot of people seem to be a bit bamboozled about this one. I've added a gif and some hints. Hope this helps. And don't hesitate to ask if it's still confusing.

invixel 2021-05-03 20:46

I agree that it was cool that the lighting was blocked by the walls, but it was a bit misleading since the Moray was behind walls but could still be reached by the camera. Cool game though!

ava-skoog 2021-05-05 16:29

@jordgubben: Hello, hello! 😊 Having to surface, that was the missing element! Sorry if the description said so all along, I just didn't see it before. Managed to beat the game now 🤩 An otter sub is a fantastic concept. Game was fun, just a bit short and easy, if there were some more species with their own challenges to being photographed that would've been neat. And a bit more feedback as has been said 😅 But I enjoyed my brief time exploring the depths, looked and sounded nice!

ismael-rodriguez 2021-05-06 02:27

Nice entry! I managed to figure out how to take pictures after reading that I needed to surface with them. It def needs some kind of indication that the picture was successful or not.

I managed to figure out how to snap a shot of the eel and dive deeper :) I actually think the zoom-shot is an interesting mechanic that could be something to consider developing.

The main things I would suggest is more direction and feedback for the player IN game, so people can just play and not need to read the game descriptions for instructions. If the player gets lost or fails in our game, I think its our job to make sure most players can figure it out and eventually feel like winners!

A "would be nice" feature, is just more speed by default.

Good job on your game!

collin-visser 2021-05-08 13:09

Nice game. A bit of an indication that I actually was successful in taking a picture of the fish would be helpful. I kept pressing the spacebar thinking it wasn't taking photos. Only when surfacing did I realize it did work.

Nice graphics. Perhaps just let you fish move a bit more randomly around the screen, instead of in a set pattern.

Sound effects were good. Good job overall.

waibiwaibi 2021-05-09 13:36

Very nice game. It seems that there are a lot of games related to the deep sea. The gameplay of this game makes me shine, that is, I feel that the audio effects can be designed well, and the others are very good!

anaxie-studio 2021-05-09 14:53

The fish are indeed really cute!

Like some other comments have mentioned, it would be cool to have more feedback on actions and pictures taken. I was also kinda confused as to how to get to the eel. Would also be cute to get to "see" the picture as a little image when going back to the surface with a new fish! It's a fun concept, kinda like Pokemon Snap but underwater. Could be fun if developed further :)
