Very simple and quite hard to win but I thought it was fun and I liked the physics on the projectiles and being able to roll them into enemies etc. It would have made it a lot better if you added a couple more things to do both inside and outside a tree, the gameplay is a bit too straight forward.

Interesting mechanics of possesing the tree and then shooting with, the enemies took a while to come, but it was fun!

Nice concept, once i managed to figure out the tree/shooting mechanics it was much fun :) it would be great if this was expanded into some sort of tower defense game but in this 2D view, I would love to play something like that!

Great work!

I looks kinda cool and the rolling physics seem like a good game concept at heart, but especially the controls and how the physics behave are really rough. So much so, that I stopped playing after a few attempts to make some progress. Like I said, the art looks pretty polished, especially the ground looks great. Has some Sonic vibes :) The music was very loud, so I had to turn that down a lot. My main issue lies withing the core game play. First of all, it was very slow. Rolling feels very unrewarding. Even if you gain some momentum due to a slope, if you stop pressing "S" and press "A" again, the inertia is killed and the velocity is back to the slow standard rolling speed. Very frustrating. Then I tried to just keep pressing "S" as long as possible, only to find out, that pressing SPACE does not seem to work in that state, so I just rolled directly into the enemies. I think that the controls need to be way more intuitive and fun to carry a game with such a concept. The physics have to be on point and comprehensible or the player will just be frustrated.

All in all, cool concept and art. Love the idea behind it, but execution wise, there's still some sanding needed to get rid of the rough edges. Keep it up!

This is a nice story completely in the theme. I like the introduction, and the mood. I like the depth of field made with the different high of pixels (In this way, the trees need more definition). The idea of attracting the enemies near the tree then embody it is very good. It would be nice to have a bit of acceleration of the spirit when you are in a inclination of the ground. The game need to be polished but you have made a very good base.

Nice idea, great artstyle and I loved the intro. However, I feel like you dump so much info on the player in terms of the controls it's really hard to memorize. A tutorial sequence of some kind would have been really helpful.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much! :)

Good game, but it could be more frenetic - and I expected something more paced. Also main aesthetic could be polished. Physics work well, especially the double jump and there is a good music giving a good mood. I can say that it fits with the theme perfectly. I had fun playing. Well done ++

It was nice to Played it could be better but well done. i loved the soundeffects alot. Keep It up. :v:

at first i was rolling to the left, dodging all the fire barrels until i got a game over. probably because my tree with the heart was hit. after the 3rd attempt I got it. i wonder if they ever slow down. i don'T feel like i have enough time to plant more trees. hm.

Hehe, you thought out the plot well, like the story! Little cozy game, good job!

Good game, its nice to played and the sound effects :ok_hand:

shreyasrao-ts 2020-05-07 08:29

Good game!! Liked the story and the theme.! good job!

Hey, thanks for posting the game for my stream!

Cool little intro story, and I love the big-pixel style. Only issue I had with the game was I couldn't tell if I was actually making progress, so I wasn't sure how far I was meant to keep going. (does the game end?) I tried ignoring the trees and getting to the end of the map to scout a bit, but eventually too many enemies spawned to jump past~

Rolling as the "forest spirit" felt nice and the game was relatively bug free. Music was also fine.

Your utilization of the pixelated art style tho, was really inconsistent. Mixing widely differing resolutions with each other usually leads to a messy presentation, as it did in this case too. Imo the high res "forest spirit" looked off compared to the trees etc. The background should always be higher res or same as the foreground, so that it looks as being further away from the view.

As I said before, the rolling physics felt pretty great, but the gravity was way too floaty and the jump height way too low. The distance to move at the start before facing the first enemies was also WAY too long, as you had to travel it again and again every time you got hit. Level design seemed also pretty bland.

The font used in the "story slides" at the beginning was quite awful. It was extremely hard to read, and also overflowed from its destined area on the right (at least in the WebGL build), which made it even more difficult to read.

A decent entry tho, overall. Keep on making games and participating ld; it's a great way to improve you skills and push your boundaries forwards. But still, good job for a beginner solo dev.

Fine idea and I didn't encounter any bugs while playing. I liked the story and the illustrated into. Incidentally, we also made a game about protecting the Tree. With quite a different take on it :)

Graphics are a bit of a mess - the widely different pixel sizes don't go together very well. And, in my opinion, the music didn't really go well with the theme. Same goes for the font in the intro - it's not really the best choice for the wall of text you want your player to read. Such fonts are fine for short headlines but nothing else really.

I also felt like there is too much time before the first wave of enemies comes and afterwards not enough time between the waves. You had to be really lightning fast to be able to plant some new trees and move your defensive position.

It is an impressive piece of work for a solo development!

Sweet game, cool soundtrack and build up to the music, nice art :) The difficulty made the game fun to play too imo, one of those rage games but I like those lol

jorim 2020-05-08 12:36

I love the mechanic of having to move the heart of the forest to make new trees. The gameplay was a little repetitive. Just spam clicking until you were overrun. I would have liked a timer estimating how long the enemies take to get to your tree, so you know you can set up trees. In my first playthrough I rolled to the left until I found enemies to just explore and once they are right behind you you can't do anything about it because you have the same speed.

A bit to hard, otherwise nice concept :D

alex-adedge 2020-05-12 14:03

Nice work making a game with music and graphics and gameplay and everything. Tricky to do something all round like that. I did struggle a bit to work out the controls/goal, so making a game more intuitive is likely something to look into for future jams!
