LD46 — Keep it alive

The Keep! It's Alive! by minibobbo 2020-04-24T06:48:35Z

Clever take on the theme, crisp and addicting mechanics, hilarious animations and sound, great 8bit music and art, good difficulty ramp and variety of target behaviors, perfect scope for the jam... This one just might stomp and grab its way to the top. I got 3 stars on all levels (including 13 and 15) and thoroughly enjoyed each one. Excellent game, well done!

Save The Pink Skins! by gajop 2020-04-23T23:41:54Z

Great twist on a classic, I'm a fan. Good level of difficulty. People commenting on slippery controls have clearly never been to space. Incorporating gravity would be sweet but probably out of scope for Compo, and the gameplay is good without it.

Keep It Ticking! by auxC 2020-04-22T22:16:01Z

Clever concept, super chaotic! I noticed that past selves seem to interfere with each other or with my current self, requiring me to repeat past actions several times. Whether or not this is intentional, it challenges the player to try to complete the game with as few time-traveling trips as possible to minimize interference. I really enjoyed this one! Just needs some music

Hungy Hungy Dwagons by cheesepencil 2020-04-24T07:02:21Z

Fun game! Silly but endearing baby dragon art and voices, satisfying fireball attack, and good difficulty ramp. Incorporating a hunger mechanic for the babies and multiple types of enemies would be great additions. Good job!

Green Thumb: Balcony Bounty by tomd1013 2020-04-23T00:05:44Z

Quite a silly premise, in a good way. Not being able to see the melons, I couldn't see how close the birds were to each one (unless that was intentional, with the TV in the way?). Also, didn't seem to get much more difficult over time, as each swing takes out all birds at each melon (rather than each swing killing one at a time). But now I can say I've slaughtered over two thousand pesky birds to keep my melons alive on a quest to achieve a nice score of 69420, only to overshoot and get 100368.

CAMPFIRE by PROJECTaroid 2020-04-22T23:03:18Z

Gameplay was pretty basic, but the art and music are nice and relaxing. Is there a delay before new logs start to burn? The fire seemed to die down late into the game even when adding logs faster and with stoking. Finished with 22 stokes and 2 logs remaining!

Earth Protector by Riadazz 2020-04-23T23:13:56Z

Simple but well executed, with cool arcade vibes. I like that it docks points when you resort to using nukes. Would have been nice to have more/longer levels that continues the difficulty ramp, as it seemed a bit easy to complete with a (I assume perfect?) score of 92. Nice job!

Tower of BOOM by BadPiggy 2020-04-24T07:46:08Z

Very addicting! This one is difficult and a lot of action-packed fun. The mechanic of navigating between levels is simple yet provides the option to either be thorough in cleaning up each floor, or just quickly blast on down. The music is simple but effective at establishing the mood and pace, although it is pretty repetitive. One little bug I noticed is that occasionally, when I die, spacebar doesn't reset it and I have to refresh the page to keep playing. So far my best score is 1880 but I'm sure I'll come back and top that before too long.. Rad game, I dig it!

EDIT: Reached 3270. This game is too addicting...

Great Filter: Climate by EntropyMaximizer 2020-04-23T00:27:32Z

Thanks everyone for playing! I had wanted to display more information on screen to help explain what's happening, but also didn't want to bombard players with a wall of numbers. Ideally it wouldn't need a description (which is kinda necessary to understand what's happening, in its current state), and things would just make intuitive sense as you play, but I'd need to make some kind of "tutorial" stage to illustrate the effects of each input. I could at least make the description a little more clear and succinct. Contrary to the theme, it's amusing to play around with the variables to try to maximize fatality count before the planet floods...

Hey @rojola, thanks for playing! That's not a bug; if you let your funds go to zero (i.e. you tax the people too much), there will be a "violent protest." It's basically a motivator to balance your budget carefully. (This is explained in the description, which I understand is way too long and which most people don't read anyways, but I didn't have enough time for an in-game tutorial). And yes I had to drastically cut the scope down from my initial concept, but I might build on it after the jam!

Keep the flame alive by polerin 2020-04-22T21:34:58Z

Good vibes, love the music! I'd like to have a better understanding of how the fuel types, their placement, and the timing of their use influence the behavior of the flame. You mentioned there's a puzzle element to this, although I wasn't able to figure it out, and resorted to a sort of brute force approach, and feel like I sort of lucked out a couple times. Assuming there's an intended fuel deployment strategy for each level, I think the fuels should reset/disappear for each attempt, otherwise they'll continue to influence the flame and undermine the puzzle aspect, resulting in a game of chance more than strategy. I like the idea of figuring out the path for luring the flame in the intended direction within a tight time limit. My recommendation: in the early levels, teach the player how the flame responds to certain prompts, then build on that with complex levels that force the player to carefully consider its actions, thus reducing the luck component. Nice Job!

It's Just Human by MomoLala23 2020-04-26T00:37:01Z

Great humor, engaging and silly music, solid difficulty ramp, and fun to play! I had trouble getting the anxiety bar/sheep thing working, although that might have been something on my end. One teeny tiny nitpick would be to have sleep be toggle-able, instead of food. Otherwise I enjoyed the challenge and the comedy! Nice job!
