LD46 — Keep it alive

Oogy's Saviour by dingotime 2020-04-25T03:32:31Z

What I like most about this game is the audio. I love how the music gets more intense when you get into combat, but it's the same tune. The sound effects are perfect too. Except I think the sound when you heal the player is a little loud. The sounds actually made me notice a few visual effects that were missing. For example, I would hear an explosion when I kill an enemy, but the sprite just disappeared without any effect. A little more eye candy would have made the game better. I like the gameplay too. It feels nice to battle while dragging Oogy around. Well done!

Ball Keeper by JCMonkey 2020-04-20T02:56:00Z

I really like the feel of this game. It's calm and relaxing. The music fits in well. It's quiet, and even though it's the same tune over and over, it's not annoying. The sound effects fit in marvelously. The gameplay is perfect. The simplicity of your sprites makes everything look really nice.

Well done!

StayTogether by n8___ 2020-04-24T16:50:53Z

I like the idea. It's original. The music is nice. The game could be faster though. Good job.

Iguanathon by Cord Gamedev 2020-04-23T16:18:13Z

The game looks cool and the concept is funny. I like it.

Maybe I'm just bad, but I think the game is too hard. The camera should be more zoomed out and further from the iguana so you can see the snakes better. The percent of energy isn't nearly enough to run away from the snakes.

Good job

Keep Me Alive! by fidrik 2020-04-23T16:05:59Z

The game looks and sounds nice. The idea is original and the gameplay is fun. The knight's moves should be more predictable: sometimes he moved into my fireballs for no reason. That's pretty annoying. The game should also get harder: right now it's the same difficulty for the whole thing. Good job.

Crystalium by Rudenko 2020-05-02T02:39:43Z

Fun to play with.

Just Fishing by DrunkardWolf 2020-04-20T06:24:19Z

The mood, graphics and sound are really good. The fishing itself is also nice. However, the gameplay is repetitive. I caught so many fish I could just keep going and never lose. There should be more variety in gameplay and increasing difficulty. Good job!

MACHINA by Harry Alissavakis 2020-04-20T01:10:08Z

Holy crap this is impressive. I love the visuals. Those floating black figures in the background that shrink look really nice. Nice font choice too. The gameplay is fun, however I don't like how there is no going back from choosing a move. The white robots should have some sort of indicator for their health.

This is the best game I found here so far. Well done!

Dream Hoppers by giu.zcc 2020-04-21T03:45:22Z

I absolutely love the graphics, music and mood. You just gotta add more to the gameplay because it's pretty easy (just hover the mouse over the platform). For a game jam though, that doesn't even matter because it's so beautiful.

Die-Alect by Jake White 2020-04-21T04:18:54Z

Looks good and sounds good. Pretty fun even though it's kinda confusing. You could be more clear on how the game works. What makes the people communicate better? Typing it faster?

ReOrb by aayush 2020-05-09T05:17:03Z

Nice game! Well done on the graphics and audio. Adding upgrades is a fun twist to this type of game. I think the game needs to be more balanced: I could just surround the orb with converters and never lose.

Penguin March by ilPrinny 2020-04-20T01:20:15Z

Good game. Having penguins get bigger when your mouse hovers over them is a nice detail.

Sleepwalker by Sheinxy 2020-04-20T04:51:39Z

This game is hard. I think it's too hard to have to click on the character. I only made it to the fourth checkpoint before I gave up. The sounds and sprites are beautifully done. The idea is original. Overall I like it.

The Sky Land by rk0307 2020-05-04T03:38:53Z

Nice! Fun and looks good. Sometimes the camera moves into the walls though. The animations are really well done. Good job

Open Fire! by Amazura 2020-05-02T02:48:02Z

Excellent pixel art and music. I love the dialogues. However, there is no game. It's just aimlessly mashing 4 buttons when enemies appear.

Elemental Babysitter by gquibao 2020-04-21T03:58:20Z

Looks pretty good. I like the bouncing animation on the cubes. I think you should add a smoke effect when an element touches another so you know which element caused you to lose. It feels kind of bland to have only a "Game Over" text pop up. Good job.

Keep What Alive by Valeth2124 2020-05-12T03:01:40Z

Great game. The graphics are beautiful and so is the audio. I think the movement is kinda slow though. It was funny to buy the gun and just shoot those random people in the street. I like the death sound they make.

Keep The Spirit Stone Allive by Ausstein 2020-04-23T16:43:36Z

Really nice game. Could use more sounds.

Keep the flame alive by Dimling 2020-04-20T16:50:57Z

Good game. I like how the volume changes as you get closer to the chopper, and how you added a volume bar. I would have made the tree's collision box smaller and at the bottom that way you can walk behind it. You would also have to add a depth sorter, but I think it's worth it.

Keep cats alive! by Odeyalko 2020-04-19T23:35:40Z

When there aren't any islands around it's hard to tell if and where you are moving. I would have added a trail on the boat, or make the camera not directly centered on the boat (move the camera when boat gets closer to edge). I really like the artstyle. Well done!

King's Table by PetTurtle 2020-04-20T04:30:47Z

This game is hard :) The art looks really nice. The audio is ok. Gameplay is fun, I like the concept. It's easy to understand. I just wish there were a button you could push to speed up time. Choosing between multiple levels adds variety to your game. Well done!

Floyd's Fire by BinaryPrinciple 2020-04-19T23:54:19Z

I love the lighting and simple artstyle. The movement looks and feels nice.

The game gets repetitive though. I found the combat boring and often unnecessary. I straight out ignored 90% of the ghosts I encountered. This feels a lot more like a prototype than a short game. I would remove the ability to skip levels and add either a final objective or make a highscore showing how far you made it.

Good job

KIA by CristiNemrak 2020-04-20T00:23:58Z

The link to the game doesn't work for me

ChargeMe by WMute 2020-04-21T00:08:06Z

This game looks spectacular. You should add sounds to give the player feedback for when things happen: like when a tree is cut down, or when your robot can't charge anymore. The gameplay is lacking. It's just walking around getting trees without a point. But the looks make up for it :)

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-20T05:46:15Z

@pulkit-garg Thank you!

@sayumeki Thanks for the comment :) You are right, the game could use a few changes as you progress. As for controlling the camera, I just wanted the player to be able to see the game from the view that they wanted. Though I should have made it more a part of the game.

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-20T07:19:08Z

@jetthesimon and @drunkardwolf Thanks!

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-20T16:27:08Z

Thank you everyone for the feedback :)

@harry-alissavakis Yes, I should make it more apparent as the wave crosses a section. I will think of ways to improve this.

@captainabi The mouse button does nothing XD, you only use mouse position to have the camera look where you want. I should have been more clear in the instructions.

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-21T05:43:33Z

Thanks everyone!

@fizzyapple12 I guess it is a rhythm game!

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-21T19:54:29Z

@rodrigo-castro Yes! I will consider making it a mobile game, thanks for the idea.

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-24T16:43:33Z

Thank you

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-24T20:48:22Z

@jupiter-hadley Thanks for playing my game! It's the mouse's horizontal position in the game which controls the camera speed (more to the right will make it faster). You are right, the instruction is unclear (a lot of people didn't understand how the mouse worked). I will explain it better in future releases, or maybe change the way the camera works.

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-04-25T03:05:28Z

@dingotime lmao thanks

Keep it Going by PatrickJR 2020-05-06T20:01:08Z

Thank you everyone for the feedback :)

@ausstein 91 is a really highscore! My personal record is 56.

Thanks for telling me about the bag system for random generation: I am now using it in the update I am working on. I use it to randomly select the sound effects (the cheers the people make). Before (in this current version) the game could play the same sound twice at the same time, which is ugly. With the bag system, this doesn't happen and the game sounds much nicer. This system could also be used in my other games. Thanks a lot!

@inflamedgums Thank you! On the update I am working on I decided to completely remove the mouse mechanic because it doesn't do much. The camera will automatically adjust itself to follow the wave. Also, this will be a mobile game, so controlling the camera would be weird.

The Halting Problem by Ramble House Games 2020-04-21T04:06:17Z

I find it funny when the spring launches the robot into the void. What's the point of the spring anyway? lol It's an original idea. I did get used to looking down at the arrows while placing the blocks, it just took a while. Maybe it should be slower?

The game is fun, but could really use some sounds. Well done.

Another thing: it's hard to place blocks down because the arrows are covering it.

Carrying the Sun by vidim888 2020-04-20T23:53:08Z

Definitely add sound. Also the beginning of the level gets too dark when you die and leave the sun somewhere else. The visuals are really good though. Good job.

Hosted by pulkit garg 2020-04-20T04:36:19Z

This game kept me playing! It has a perfect complexity level: it only takes a few seconds to learn, and there are enough elements to keep me hooked. Your idea is very original. Well done.

Embers by CaptainAbi 2020-04-20T03:29:48Z

Great job on the music. I like the background. It's good that I can jump right into playing. However, I think the gameplay is too simple and unoriginal. Adding a few more mechanics would have made the game more engaging. For example, covering the fire from rain or something.

Earth Defense! by James140 2020-05-07T02:04:10Z

Good job. I like the glow the sprites have. The particles for when the ship blows up looks cool. There should be a sound and an animation when the earth gets damaged. When I press space to play for a second time, the game freezes. Like others have said, the arrow moves too slow.

LUDUM DARE 46 by ZeppelinGames 2020-05-05T00:25:44Z

Graphics are really nice. Having a cutscene in the begining sets you appart from other entries. The sounds are ok. The minecart part is a fun change in gameplay, however something should tell the player which way to turn. I would also like more feedback when the game changes scenes. The fade out looks just like when the torch goes out, so sometimes it's unclear whether I won or lost. Overall, really well done!

Don't Forget To Water! by Thor Lucas 2020-04-20T03:39:54Z

Dang this is really good! Very original. I like the different kinds of blocks you add as you progress through the game, which adds depth to a simple game. The music is nice, so are the graphics. I don't see anything wrong with this game! I am craving for more levels.

Maintenance by bereg 2020-04-20T00:44:40Z

THIS SHOULD NOT BE IN THE COMPO if you didn't make the textures or sounds!

Nevertheless, this is a very beautiful game. I love how the camera moves from one train to another.

Lone Cabin by Alex Chrome 2020-04-20T04:15:22Z

Needs sound and music. I like the sprites. I have seen a lot of people use the idea of keeping a fire up, but your game is different because there are more things to worry about. Keeping track of hunger, thirst and warmth adds a level of complexity, while the game is still easy to understand.

Cabbage Defender by Nerd Everyday 2020-04-20T03:11:02Z

The sprites and audio are good. I like how I can immediately start playing. The gameplay gets repetitive. It was just pointing and mashing the button at the same cabbage and rabbits. I think you could have been a little more creative. Running around shooting things coming at some central object isn't too original, unless you add a twist. Something I appreciate is the sound and music volume bars in the menu.

Keep It Pumping by Stevis93 2020-04-20T06:12:03Z

Great art, nice sound, love the feel. The chunks of the head flying to the side when the guy shoots himself are cool. I think there should be something to warn the player right before the guy points the gun to his head. It feels kind of like chance, where I am hoping the gun doesn't change as I click. Really great game!

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Fort Loop by deepnight 2020-10-11T08:39:53Z

Amazing game. The art-style and lighting is fantastic. The puzzles are well thought: that last one took me a while. The idea is innovative. Attacking feels satisfying, even though I am not doing anything. 5/5 for everything except humor (it's just not a funny game).

Bust-a-Loop by PeachTreeOath 2020-10-08T06:04:03Z

This is really fun and satisfying. Love some of the names. "Buster dunk" xD. A fight music in the background would be cool. This game definitely needs sounds. Just beat some meat and it will make a good punch sound. Add some yelling. It will make the game much funnier and satisfying. Also it's pretty hard to judge the distance for the ice spike.

Pendulum Jumps by svntax 2020-10-15T05:09:03Z

Fun, the graphics look clean and the audio fits. The game is simple, which makes it easy to start playing without any explanation. I like how the pins stay and how an arrow that points to the balloon appears. The camera could be better. I often can't see what I want to see. Perhaps add controls to zoom in and out? Have the camera automatically zoom out to show the player and the balloon? Overall great entry.

Pulsewave by bitdecay 2020-10-15T05:00:01Z

Love the music. The art looks nice. The idea is original and fun. At first I was just looking at the bottom of the screen and quickly glancing at the ship just trying to hit the button at the right time. After a few tries I was able to play just by moving to the beat. I noticed the camera does a subtle effect every beat. I like it. I also like how the music gets kind of warped when you miss. Great job.

BOOTLOOP_RECOVERY by Tsunscreen 2020-10-06T19:26:14Z

Gotta love the atmosphere. The sound and dark lighting gives eerie vibes.

Roller Riches by dxk2294 2020-10-08T05:41:22Z

Honestly, this is in the like 5% of jam games I actually want to spend time on and play. Maybe it's just because it's an idle game and those tend to get addicting, but I think you really did well here. I especially love the idea of banks. Just a couple things that would make it better:

- Audio. This game needs a background music and some sound effects. - There's nothing interesting with the theme. I guess its because they lose money when they go through the loops? Because the ride goes in a loop? Regardless, it's a great game and theme is only one category. It doesn't really matter. - When I developed the track as far as I could there was no indicator it was the limit. It just wouldn't go farther when I held "a". - For larger numbers I would prefer if they were expressed with exponents (5 * 10^6 rather than 5,000,000). Also would prefer round numbers. If all the numbers are like 56,422,324 they are harder to compare.

Overall amazing game.

ReBeat by Alex Davies 2020-10-11T21:49:44Z

Very unique and innovative! Takes a while to get used to. I love the menu: the transitions are really nice. When I exit a level and go to the menu the music is playing twice.

AutoMate by nelow 2020-10-05T23:31:00Z

Outstanding intro! Graphics look really cool, although sometimes there are so many things its hard to keep track of what's important. The upbeat music, flashy lights and camera movement create a strong hyper mood.

Arcane Forest by LadyMistLeaf 2020-10-21T01:02:12Z

The rooms look exactly the same except for a few which have different pumpkin placement. More elements like rocks and mushrooms and birds would make this much better. Even just moving the tree and grass placement would help. Adding landmarks to make certain rooms stand out would be good. I also wish the player moved faster. I like the dialogue with the pumpkin and the music is decent.

WhileLoops by Ausstein 2020-10-06T19:44:53Z

So original and fun!

A Day in the Woods by ditam 2020-10-21T00:55:58Z

Beautiful. Love the drawing sound effects and how things fade into the world as the narrator adds to the story. The font matches the art style nicely. Makes a really good mood. I especially love the footprints.

ReReReSpawn by Arttu Halonen 2020-10-07T18:57:06Z

Hey this is really fun! I'm in love with the idea. The glow is a really nice look.

I think more sounds and a background music will largely improve the game feel. I hear a strange faint sound in the background, I don't know if thats supposed to be the music but it doesn't sound like music nor does it match the game.

An explosion of particles and a camera shake when one of your characters dies would be cool. Also, I don't like how the player can get stuck on the sides of walls and platforms. It should just slide off.

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-05T03:36:48Z

@aarimous There is a hole somewhere. You are right about the torches: they are there to help you mark where you've been. The entire map loops in on itself like a weird disfigured checker pattern. You just gotta find the right path. Thanks

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-05T03:41:41Z

@ashley-koett Thank you very much!

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-06T19:12:13Z

@diaonic @dusho @edomiyamoto @gwinnell @star-sought

Thank you very much for the feedback! You guys are absolutely right about the torches, I should have made the player not collide with them. Diagonal movement would indeed make it feel much better.

As for music, I agree that it would make the game so much better. Unfortunately I don't know a thing about music nor how I could make game music. If any of you know any free tools I could use to make game music can you please share it with me? I would really like to have that in my future games.

Thanks

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-06T21:59:53Z

@edomiyamoto Thank you very much. Music was always missing in my games.

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-10T03:23:36Z

@arttu-halonen Thank you! I wanted to add more sounds but ran out of time. I will keep that a higher priority for my next games.

@eugenik Thank you very much!

@sop-the-turtle Thanks. Making a seamless system took me a while.

@maychant "A gender reveal simulator" lmao, thanks.

Lost In The Woods by PatrickJR 2020-10-10T18:45:09Z

@peachtreeoath Thanks for the elaborate review! I did consider adding a limited number of torches, though I ran out of time. It's probably for the best, as you said it would likely be annoying. Making the looping world was tough at first, but once I figured out how it would work the programming wasn't difficult. Took me about a day.

The whole map is just one regular world repeating. It's organized in a sort of grid. The game only has 9 tiles generated at once: the one the player is on and the 8 around it. Each "room" is a prefab which has a reference to the types of rooms surrounding it. When the player enters it, it creates those new rooms (if they aren't already there), and destroys the rooms far from the player. The rooms at the far right create rooms at the far left, and rooms at the far left create rooms at the far right. Same with up-down. There is also a program which keeps track of torch placement in each room type.

Froot Loops Delivery Job by InefficientChunkOfCode 2020-10-06T19:35:01Z

Fun! The music is loud. There should be a mute button somewhere.

Fleder Flopin by Diefleder 2020-10-05T00:10:03Z

I like the background music and it's good looking. I'm impressed by how you were able to come up with all these models and textures in 48 hours! The game suits the theme and it's fun.

Space Marine 2020 by ytrewq 2020-10-08T05:53:50Z

I'm sorry man this is totally unplayable. Not only does it run slow, but also the character jumps non-stop. Half the time I play the character falls through the floor. I'd recommend just making a windows or mac build and posting that.

Yesterday Again by Ruling Spear 2020-10-06T19:53:32Z

There should be a depth sorter. Feels weird to walk on top of everything. Funny game!

Luddite by Q-Bert Reynolds 2020-10-15T05:18:36Z

Music is great. Looks good. The idea of impaling yourself and using it as a platform is innovative. Ideas like these could add some cool puzzle elements. Camera controls are a tad awkward. Great entry for the compo.

The Legend of the Stormer by josephdevelops 2020-10-08T01:41:19Z

At the beginning of the first area I got stuck under that first pillar thing. Had to restart the game.

I love the music and the art. The backgrounds, even though they look like they were made in 20 seconds without much attention, are actually not bad at all. The characters look perfect.

Also, the combat should be more developed. I only killed like 2 of those slime things and ignored the rest. The combat didn't have any purpose because you can't be damaged and it's easier to just ignore the enemies.

DejaVu by StuxGeek 2020-10-05T23:19:58Z

I like the simple graphics. It's fun to find what new thing you gotta do in each room. Restarting from the beginning for running out of time gets frustrating. Also, when I fall down the void it doesn't restart: I have to wait for the timer to end.

Looped Fellas by BukkakeTears 2020-10-11T18:41:45Z

The sprites of the people are funny. The sound is nice. There is good feedback when I click at the right time. Overall really well done.

SORO BORO by nethead 2020-10-10T19:37:04Z

I love the background music. I'm loving the simple color scheme. Shooting rockets feels powerful. Innovative way of incorporating the theme. I find the game hard; to me the enemy colliders are too big.

Little Orbit by CurdleGames 2020-10-05T00:24:55Z

Very smooth game. I like the relaxing background music. The game is so simple I could play it instantly, which I love. The game was very easy however, I just sat there blasting asteroids for minutes. A difficulty curve is needed.

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-10T19:17:10Z

Your beautiful graphics and audio make a nice calm mood. It's fun for a while, like a better version of that dinosaur game when you don't have internet. I would like different enemies types (some that jump or fly) to add some variety.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Just Down Jack by joewan 2021-04-26T03:33:12Z

Fun! I like that the mystery boxes can be positive, or negative. However they should be more positive than negative. I began avoiding them since most the time I got darkness or confusion. So unless you want the player to avoid them, they should be more positive. I like that the controls are so simple (two buttons) while there is some variety to the games (platform surfaces, mystery box, falling rocks, moving platforms).

depthscraper by lexi 2021-05-01T16:45:38Z

Fun! I noticed people could enter multiple high scores. It should be limited to one. The game also requires sound. It's easy to lose track of how close you are to game over, so perhaps add some sort of alarm when there are like 3 moves left? Then make it more clear when you get more moves. I can see this becoming popular.

#Deep by Alex_LemminG 2021-04-30T06:12:15Z

Scrolls are funny, and it's nice they give powerups. I was about to quit until I got my first scroll and it said something like "if my mom is gay, how am I born?", then I wanted to see the rest. I recommend adding a zoom in / zoom out. After I got a few scrolls I could see so far but my character looked so tiny. Also, I can see blue where the map doesn't fully generate. Stones are a good idea, but it took some time for me to figure it out.

Deep Sea Mining by Ausstein 2021-04-27T03:03:58Z

This is one of the few games I would sit down and play even if I wasn't rating games for a game jam. Great job. The art is beautiful, particularly the water. Having everything controlled by the mouse makes it easy to pick up.

I really love the mining and upgrading, but not so much the combat. Combat is more difficult and annoying than fun. For one, the gun is placed above the submarine so it's hard to aim. Also, you gotta move in the direction of the enemy. I found myself always going in circles trying to kill one guy. But then a bunch of other monsters would come at me from other directions. So I would just lose health while mining until I go repair. For the jam, I think it would have been better to go without combat and develop the mining even more.

Sometimes its hard to see what's going on. The submarine moves fast and the camera lags behind, so I can't see what's in front of me. Also the lighting should be 360 degrees, not only in front. When mining, I can't see anything because the light is pointing right at the ground. If you want the effect of a spotlight, how about keep the bright spotlight you have now, and add a dimmer light that goes 360 degrees around the sub.

I know it seems like a lot of criticism, but that's only because I am interested in the game. Good work.

Deep Sea Mining by Ausstein 2021-04-29T22:00:34Z

I gave it another try. Much better! I am no longer annoyed by the combat because now I can control when I move and aiming is much easier. I am glad you made the camera move ahead when moving. Great work.

River Ravager by PatrickJR 2021-04-26T07:10:36Z

@purebe Thanks for the feedback! Thanks for letting me know about all the enemies after restarting. It's a bug. The spawnrate does not reset when restarting like it's supposed to. I will fix that soon and leave a note about the fix on the description.

@the-neon-shark Thank you. I like the idea of a trail. It would be nice to have a better idea where the player is shooting. Different weapons and ammo sounds interesting. I will consider that if I make a post jam version of the game.

River Ravager by PatrickJR 2021-04-29T22:04:02Z

@ausstein You are totally right. It does get too hard quickly. I should change the spawnrate as you suggested, having the rate change less as the game progresses. Thanks for trying out my game.

So beautifully disgusting. Great sound effects. It needs a scoring system or a goal (perhaps reaching a brain?) to give purpose to the game. Very unique.

Amazing. Unique take on the theme. I love that the only control is pointing the mouse; it's so simple the game doesn't need instructions or a tutorial. I'm impressed that you managed to add a whole upgrading system within the 48 hours.

I love time trial. It adds a different dynamic to the game. At first, conserving water is important, so I was more strategic in where I would expand my roots. For time trial, I already had so many upgrades I didn't need to worry about water. It was just a matter of quickly moving my mouse to the right spot.

I would only add a button to slow down the roots. Later in the game I got stuck against obstacles a lot.

The solid color background is bland. Maybe draw a repeating image for the background? Add seaweed, clams, fish and other details.

I like how the sub and explosive mines look.

The mystery boxes are a nice addition, but I rarely get them since I can't steer my sub towards them fast enough.

The gameplay lacks variety. Perhaps add moving explosive mines. How about a button to slow down the sub? That could require fuel. Collecting fuel could be another part of the game.

Nevertheless, for a first game this is pretty good considering the time constraints.
