Great puzzle game! I like the leaderboard functionality, and how the game fits into the theme. Good work!

kingofnova 2021-04-27 01:43

it was a great deal of fun the leader board function could have been implemented with out the pop up other than that it was a great fun little game.

thearchitect 2021-04-27 02:44

It's faaaaar more interesting than I thought !!! Readlly good game

niksg 2021-04-27 03:13

Easy to get into and definitely keeps you interested. Liked the simplicity of the layout. A lot of fun!

saerki 2021-04-27 08:27

Draws heavily from 2048 and Tetris while not being a copy at all. Really fun game that I could totally see myself playing with a mobile device while commuting.

The game could use some weighted RNG at least so that the much needed color would be available in some form. I had some playthroughs where it pigeonholed me into blocking myself off completely because I just couldn't get any of the color I needed.

A great entry!

m0dsat 2021-04-27 08:27

Once I got the hang of it, it was quite complex and fun. Some audio on this would have been brilliant. Thanks for the game!

locustjin 2021-04-27 08:33

I was surprised by this game, simple and very addictive, much respect for the idea.

fictions 2021-04-27 08:36

That was a really relaxing experience  I hope you had an amazing weekend building this

themoonrise 2021-04-27 08:43

I spent way longer on this game than I wanted to. The game idea works great and it is really addicting. I thing the graphics. However, sometimes the random rows feel a bit unfair. If you get certain combinations it seems impossible not to loose. Still, great game.

feor 2021-04-27 09:04

My favorite game of the jam so far! Very addictive gameplay. I don't know if I just wasn't paying attention but it happened once or twice that I got a game over at a point where I thought I could still place blocks, but that's my only little nitpick. This is a great riff off of 2048.

haiyoooo 2021-04-27 09:08

Crazy amazing, i would download this if it were an app. Not kidding. I had no idea what i was doing for a whhile but once i got it... muahua Also, the lerps rock.

dmitrygalias 2021-04-27 09:17

This is a cool game mechanic. On the one hand it is simple but on the other, it is very deep. I’ve really enjoyed the game! It would be great to hear some casual background music while you think about your next move.

upcharlie 2021-04-27 10:53

Brilliant concept and well executed, could very easily be a great mobile game too!

smbe19 2021-04-27 11:09

Really awesome game. However, as others already pointed out, it would be nice if the new blocks were not completely random. As it is, it feels a bit unfair if the color which I need for the current "mission" just does not appear anymore.

gaming-night 2021-04-27 11:10

Very nice game! I agree @upcharlie, with nice audio feedback it could be a great mobile chill game :)

virimine 2021-04-27 11:11

Wow amazing gamee! Didnt understand how the time passed while playing it! Loved the design and the minimalistic aesthetic Really Great job! :blue_heart:

paulloz 2021-04-27 11:21

I literally could play this for hours (I kinda did). Well done; well done.

finntastico 2021-04-27 11:52

@gaming-night @upcharlie @saerki We think your ideas of making it a mobile game sound really good. If you're interested in this actually happening, [kindly leave your email with us](http://eepurl.com/hwZ7qP) and we will think about it and let you know when we release :)

caeonosphere 2021-04-27 12:07

Can't say I've seen a puzzle mechanic quite like this before... cool! Definitely liked how it involved scrolling farther and farther down in the browser, neat take on the theme.

boltkey 2021-04-27 12:19

I think I won. I managed to get an area of size 73. The trick is to select a side and only place one color on it. Fun puzzle game, reminds me of 2048.

tosmaster 2021-04-27 12:23

A cool and fun game! I like the little sqash and stretch of the tiles! I like the idea and itch integration! Saw your announcement, and I'll totally play this on mobile!

lexi 2021-04-27 12:23

@boltkey Amazing job! We never even managed to get that far! :trophy:

thebmxeur 2021-04-27 12:24

I'm pretty sure the game ended my run while there was still possible moves. I had a full empty row at the bottom, a single block line available to place and single and double free space lines in the stack. Is there a fail condition other than not being able to place blocs anymore ?

lexi 2021-04-27 12:27

@thebmxeur Yeah you have a certain amount of moves that run out when you place tiles. You can fulfil the challenges on the right side to get more moves. We probably should have made that clearer, thanks for the feedback!

ancient-pixel 2021-04-27 12:44

Nice and simple mechanics/graphics/game. Very mobile-y. It would be a great toilet game (in the nicest kind of way)

pdotjpg 2021-04-27 13:08

Wow, sunk like an hour into this. Great game! Really elegant design. I prefer this to Threes, 2048 and the like.

nick-barrash 2021-04-27 16:01

Feels really original. Awesome job!

elendow 2021-04-27 16:06

Very cool game with a nice mechanic. Something that can improve the game is the option to use a move to refresh one or multiple tiles to place, because sometimes they can ruin a good run.

Good job :)

lexi 2021-04-27 16:24

@elendow Yeah good idea, we were playing around with the idea of being able to replace tiles in exchange for moves or score, but we didn't go for it because of the time constraints. We'll keep it in mind for any future versions, thank you so much for your feedback!

wisedawn 2021-04-27 17:06

Very cool idea; quite fun to play!

webox 2021-04-27 17:45

This is freaking awesome, amazing game!! So simple yet so fun!! Really great concept, an amazing execution, simplicity at its finest.. Congratulations!! This is just perfect!

cninja 2021-04-27 19:11

Well, that's exactly this kind of game that I want to play on my phone in bed before going to sleep or just whenever I'm bored. I'm fun of puzzle games like 2048 or tetris and this one would just perfectly match my android games library. Hope you'll make android port! And so far one my favourite games from LD48!

Edit: 584 points so far, I'm coming for that top 10 lol

alchemic 2021-04-27 19:59

Really cool puzzle game! 639 seems to be my peak score, I always run out of moves before I can complete the next challenge.

lexi 2021-04-27 21:06

@cninja Glad you liked it! Yeah we're already thinking of making a mobile version, if so we'd definitely support android as well :iphone:

584, not that far to go. I believe in you :rainbow:

dxk2294 2021-04-27 21:17

Very interesting and unique take on a puzzle game. Lots of fun to play and to try and get a higher score. Great job!

zimny11 2021-04-27 21:43

A great puzzle game! Just well done! I'm not surprised that you want to make it into a mobile game. I wish you good luck!

ladybenko 2021-04-27 21:47

Fun and addictive, well done! I don't know if you plan to port it to mobile, but it would be awesome

nidzakornjaca 2021-04-27 22:32

Very interesting puzzle game - appears simple at first glance, but there's a lot in it. Overall very clever idea and design, and polished implementation. Well done!

korfi 2021-04-27 22:43

Really nice puzzle game and a nice take on the theme!

davision 2021-04-27 23:06

Nice simple fun game. Only downside I found that you can end up with a task that you already know is impossible and you see no point playing further. Like making 40 with only 15 turns left.

biku 2021-04-27 23:21

Great game. It's addictive and very creative

eximir 2021-04-27 23:26

I played a bit it's a nice game

daf 2021-04-27 23:52

I probably missed some rule or found a bug: Immagine.png

kromeboy 2021-04-27 23:55

Good puzzle. Simple yet effective art style, and relaxing gameplay

foopy 2021-04-28 03:28

Fun puzzle, i like how the blocks bounce when you put them down, great attention to details. I could see this being an addicting mobile game.

leganiereinahpets 2021-04-28 07:04

This is super fun and addicting! I don't know how people have gotten such high scores, though! I can barely break 200! haha

lexi 2021-04-28 07:23

@daf It might be that you ran out of moves. You get 25 in the beginning and need to fulfil the challenges on the right in order to get more. It's definitely something we could have made clearer

bubbadubc 2021-04-28 14:51

yeah I had a lot of fun playing this, it really challenges the critical thinking. I would play this a lot on mobile!

baturinsky 2021-04-28 14:55

Love the visual effects.

arthur-porto 2021-04-28 14:56

Simple puzzle but easily addicting, i loved this game is so intuitive what you got to do and the scores leaderboard *cheff kiss*. Would be cool if the page scrolls automatically when reaching a new layer and some sound effects would be a nice touch, overall awesome game!

snip-man 2021-04-28 15:01

Fun puzzle game. Played a few games and I don't know how someone got so many points. I only got 300

eta 2021-04-28 15:02

Reminded me of 2048 in the first moment, but it's a completely different game. Very fun to play, although I couldn't come up with an effective strategy to get high scores :)

a-flat-miner-studios 2021-04-28 15:05

I agree with many of the other comments, this would make a great app! Simple enough to understand quickly but nuanced enough to take time to get the hang of. Great entry!

le-slo 2021-04-28 15:07

Very nice casual puzzle game, the rules are consistent and simple, and the game is in sweet spot of difficulty, it is possible to continue almost indefinitely as long as you are planning things. Clean graphics, althought the game isn't great in a graphic design perspective. Sad that it had no music or audio. Great job!

loig 2021-04-28 15:17

Very nice feeling playing this game! It makes you want to play again and again. I indeed think this could very well work on mobile.

Are the next proposed tiles completely random or is there some restriction on the generation to ensure that they can be used? Does it somehow guarantee that the objectives can be fulfilled ? I found it quite frustrating to see no red while having a red objective (make 40 red), forcing me to close my current red area just below the size requested (and with no hope to rebuild it as 40 is a lot).

arttu-halonen 2021-04-28 15:23

Cool idea! A little audio feedback would make this even better. Keep it up!

justinmullin 2021-04-28 15:34

So cool! I love when novel puzzle concepts come up in LD, it's crazy to me that there's still space left in the "simple tile puzzles," but this is fun and I've never seen anything like it! Would definitely play a full mobile release. Maybe this is the next 2048? =)

I think there's definitely room to better communicate the rules so people can get up to speed more quickly, but I was able to figure out the rules within a single playthrough, and definitely felt after my first run that I wanted to go right back into it and try again with what I'd learned.

Awesome game, minimalistic and enjoyable. Nicely done!

nyanpierre 2021-04-28 15:42

Interresting gameplay ! good job

dhim 2021-04-28 18:02

Very nice game mechanic

todward 2021-04-28 18:59

Amazing puzzle game with potential for addiction. Hope you will release this for mobile devices!

danmedeiros 2021-04-28 20:44

It's a very simple game. In this case, "simple" definitely works. I was just confused by how the position of the blocks relate to how you put them on the board, but once you get the hang of it, it can become pretty addictive. Nice job.

finntastico 2021-04-28 21:44

@todward @justinmullin @loig @ancient-pixel we hear you and we agree :) we are going to work on a mobile version. if you're interested [put your email here](https://agency.us1.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=ad7018d8f78d3642b22a60a8d&id=e948d38aeb) and we'll let know know once we release something.

albertnez 2021-04-28 22:27

Very nice simple but powerful mechanic. It took me few seconds to realize what's going on, but the result is super nice. Well done!

gcake 2021-04-29 00:19

A simple game, yet fantastic ! (*Just like your name : finntastico !*)

Ok, pun aside, this is indeed a game that can be a very nice little mobile game.

Good job on making this game ! :tada:

johnnysix 2021-04-29 00:54

Once you can figure out where tiles can go, it gets easier. Great stuff!

zathnic 2021-04-29 03:10

Nice innovative puzzle mechanic! I also like how cleanly the game is integrated into the itch.io webpage. I wonder if there would be potential to expand this with multiple game modes, for example a hard mode with more than four columns or maybe even a Tetris-inspired mode.

bitdecay 2021-04-29 03:31

I quickly put 30 minutes into this game. A solid idea you have going here. It might just be that I don't have a good strategy, but the random nature of the missions and the rows to choose from feels a little unfair sometimes and your game ends abruptly because of how the proverbial dice roll. A very solid game, though. I had more fun playing this than almost any other game I've played so far. Great job.

obrunomarques 2021-04-29 05:20

Great game, not my cup of tea but I think it's a very good puzzle

human-writes-code 2021-04-29 12:58

This is so addictive! What a great idea and really well executed. I don't even know how people come up with these simple, yet challenging and fun puzzle game ideas. I began playing and next thing you know it was 2 hours later. Amazing work!

realkonstantin 2021-04-29 12:58

Damn, the highscores are crazy! I didn't even get close to the top 10. Gameplay and visuals are very clean, can see this becoming a mobile game easily. Might just need a bit more gameplay depth to keep players engaged in the long run. Great work overall!

doot 2021-04-29 13:07

Nice game!

The idea is great and well executed on the visual side!

I am not sure why I had game over at the end though? I still had two empty rows.

glaas 2021-04-29 13:08

Absolutely brilliant ! Took me a few tries to get the rules, but fantastic and incredibly polished

jusw85 2021-04-29 14:16

Short and sweet! By the way, it didn't work when I opened it in a Chrome incognito window (but it does work in a FF private window). You might want to note that in the instructions

finntastico 2021-04-29 14:18

@human-writes-code Thank you :) We actually wrote a small blog post where we outline where we started and how we ended up with this puzzle: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/depthscraper/how-we-ended-up-with-a-geometric-puzzler-called-depthscraper

@realkonstantin Yes we definetely would need to improve to keep players engaged longer. We are thinking of trying to adress this problemm and turning it into a mobile game: http://eepurl.com/hwZ7qP

@doot Thank you! :) We should probably make it more clear, but you also have limited moves and you need to complete challenges to now run out of moves. So there are 2 different game over conditions.

finntastico 2021-04-29 14:20

@jusw85 Thank you! Also thank you for letting us know. I think it's because we save your highscore to your browser session which doesn't work in chrome incognito...

lamamour 2021-04-29 16:10

Yey I'm in the top 10! At one point it becomes impossible, you don't have enough color squares to do the requirement ahah

Good job on making this game, it was really pleasant. I'm definetely leaving you my mail if you do the mobile version, I would play daily!

joh 2021-04-30 02:30

This is beautiful! Amazing game and you are right to aim for mobile! gameplay is simple yet fun, aestetic is simple yet clean, so clean I wasnt sure it was the game since if flowed into the rest of the page so well! Even the theme... At first I was like "I dont see it", but then! well played. I dont have much to say except It was great, perfect kind of game for the jam and beyond!

noble-robot 2021-04-30 09:02

Great game with a great loop! This abstract game also managed to be one of the best uses of the theme. Well done!

I do think there's a lot of work to be done (more than might at first appear, I worry) to make it a "fair" experience. About half of the rounds I played ended up where I ran out of turns before the required number of matching-colored squares even appeared, much less could be placed next to each other. And even though I always had 3 piece options, I felt at the "whims of chance" more often than in Tetis, Puyo, or other games which with similar "up next piece" mechanics, but on the other hand, I did really enjoy the smaller play space. It encouraged me to always play tactically even when I wasn't confident that it would matter much.

I'm not one to encourage adding balance/stat mechanics as the solution to any problem, but perhaps a system where players can spend their points to make adjustments to the available pieces (change one square's color, or add/remove one) might alleviate the issue a bit and provide a risk/reward mechanic. This kind of thing can quickly devolve into F2P-style energy/gem/currency territory, so be careful if you go down that road 😉.

I look forward to seeing more from this. It's got such a strong core. I know you're making a mobile version, but I also think it would make a good Switch game. In addition to touchscreen play, I cam imagine a two-player VS mode fit for TVs, too. Once you're further along, if you are interested in having someone help port it, let me know: http://noblerobot.com/porting-publishing

okamit 2021-04-30 11:25

Very interesting and stylish puzzle game, great effective graphics and animation! I will definitely get back to playing it more when I have more time!

I subscribed to mobile version update as well!

Great work!

superpokeunicorn 2021-04-30 14:57

Really creative and original puzzle game! Trying to fill rows while not cutting off the color you need to build to reach your goal creates a great conflict in the design. I also like how you can build other colors in anticipation of the next goal, since that color might be required. One small problem I noticed with the game is that there's no way to end the game if none of the pieces fit into the current board, meaning you have to manually reload the page and are locked out of entering your high score. It would be nice if the game automatically ended if you got into such a checkmate scenario. Overall, really solid entry. Nice work!

stefan-laimer 2021-04-30 18:30

Awesome game, really addictive and I finally managed to get the high score :)

depthscraper.PNG

finntastico 2021-04-30 22:10

@stefan-laimer damn, congrats! We never thought people would be able to score that high

youhou 2021-05-01 01:27

Great puzzle game, congrats :)

goldenevolution 2021-05-01 14:16

Very cool puzzle game, although I am not very good at it haha

fargred 2021-05-01 14:18

Fantastic little puzzle game! Once you get the hang of it, it's highly addictive. One of those games where the gameplay is good enough that the (perfectly serviceable) presentation doesn't even matter that much!

dwightdavis 2021-05-01 14:18

I think the whole high scoring system speaks for itself - this is a simple concept with a lot of strategic depth! I think a little bit of artistic flair on the graphics could have gone a long way, and sound effects would have been great as well. However, those are just nit-picks, this is a stellar game!

nitero 2021-05-01 14:22

Personally I found the scrolling a bit annoying, since it interfered with the browser scrolling sometimes. It was also easy to lose track of your leftover moves and it was a bit unclear when you gain a new line at the bottom. But apart from all that it's definitely one of the most interesting games this jam, congrats!

EDIT: Finally made the top 100 :D

finntastico 2021-05-01 15:00

@nitero Yeah we ran out of time to add auto-scrolling, I think that would have helped. Congrats for reaching TOP 100, it's pretty hard at this point :D

diotins 2021-05-01 15:02

Damn this is a very innovative and fun game!! Loved how simple yet challenging the it is, got me hooked for sure! Kudos :D

wouter52 2021-05-01 15:08

Love your game! It earned a spot on my bookmarksbar ^^

*Edit: reminds me a bit of 2048*

escapade 2021-05-01 15:13

Green ftw Depthscraper.PNG I had to get 23 red to continue, but alas it wasn't my day. I see a lot of potential in this becoming a mobile game, so you have my full support. It seems the key is to maintain at least one long line of a certain colour - I got 41 yellow and 87 green, which seemed to be the main factors towards my high score. This was the first try for me btw. Any luck you could tell us the formula for scoring?

ithildin 2021-05-01 15:42

This was really addicting! Sometimes it may be a bit RNG-dependent to get suitable blocks of tiles to complete the current challenge or even buy yourself some extra space, but it definitely adds to the challenge. Great job!

mololo 2021-05-01 15:44

Such a great idea, I love it and the animations are a nice touch.

Great game it has great potential to be a successful phone game, good job.

guimoliveira 2021-05-01 15:48

484848 sry :innocent:

noskro 2021-05-01 16:03

quite addictive game. good job! How many people have told you, you should made an app out of it? ;)

verygenuinecraze 2021-05-01 16:34

Great puzzle game ! The gameplay is new and refreshing. We are battling to have the highscore with my step brother but he is better  Some sounds would be perfect !

patrickjr 2021-05-01 16:45

Fun! I noticed people could enter multiple high scores. It should be limited to one. The game also requires sound. It's easy to lose track of how close you are to game over, so perhaps add some sort of alarm when there are like 3 moves left? Then make it more clear when you get more moves. I can see this becoming popular.

finntastico 2021-05-01 18:20

@guimoliveira 😂 We were waiting for someone to do this. Some how your score went missing though

finntastico 2021-05-01 18:23

@escapade Very good score especially for the first try! Each time you place something the size of the adjacent areas is added to the score. So yes to score high it's pretty key to have big areas. However we also found that placing conservatively can also be quite an effective strategy. So not hoping on your big area to get bigger but just fully focus on the task. :)

guimoliveira 2021-05-01 19:46

Oh noo. I swear I didn't send a fake score. ~~(Maybe I should have been less ambitious)~~  Great game! I really liked it even though I didn’t get a good score without cheating :sob:. Well, it was easier to cheat than to get more than 1000 points. Good job!

jose-bonilla 2021-05-06 16:56

Good game, I think it's a nice semi-casual puzzle game, it could be improved and released on mobile. It is a bit rough and could be polished way more with more sound, music, particle effects etc. but it's a great little concept for a future game.

joe40001 2021-05-07 15:23

I got 1603. Fun puzzle game. doesn't really escalate too much but you can have a nice time just chilling with this game. Clean art style.

thegamerasd 2021-05-08 01:56

Great job! I liked the leaderboard and the game was fun to play.

rocap 2021-05-08 07:00

I can see myself playing this a lot if it was a mobile game, really good job making it in such a short amount of time.

neontropics 2021-05-08 13:59

Very clever and fun puzzle game and nails the important part: easy to grasp, hard to master!

The inclusion of a leaderboard was great as well.

naali 2021-05-09 01:53

Nice job.

euler-moises 2021-05-10 19:41

Cool game! I started to understand now ... :D I saved it here, because I want to reach a best score.

Congratulations on the idea.

gamebuilder 2021-05-12 15:36

I was a bit confused at first, because there was an inner scroll-bar in Firefox that I needed to use to see the rows at the bottom. Other than that, I found the controls to be intuitive, once I understood the mechanics. I found it to be challenging, but not frustrating. The leader board is a nice touch. Games like these show how far simplicity can go. Nice work.

f1krazy 2021-05-12 15:42

A simple idea, beautifully executed. What more could one ask for in a jam game? I do hope you do something with this, because it has a lot of potential.

kotzi 2021-05-12 21:15

Nice idea and great execution, congrats!

osterzone 2021-05-12 21:32

This is addictive as hell, I love it. Although it does feel a little too luck based.

mharring 2021-05-12 21:40

Great puzzle game! Simple but fun to play. Nice job!

chrisap 2021-05-12 22:38

Really cute aesthetic puzzle game! I feel like this would work wonderfully in a mobile game. Congrats on making something so simple yet compelling. <3

fire-soldier888 2021-05-13 06:47

amazing game!! i realy like the idea and the game realy fun and addictive backround music would make the gamplay a lot better and fun

paul-nadan 2021-05-16 06:38

This was a ton of fun, it's awesome that you're considering making it a mobile game! Definitely feels a lot like 2048 in that a simple set of rules produces some pretty interesting strategy. It did seem like a lot of luck was involved for which color was selected for the next goal, I think it could be neat to show the player the next goal as well as the current one, so they can plan further in advance. Overall this was a super fun and addicting entry, nice work!

That was really fun! I got to 1700 after multiple tries, and I bookmarked your game's page to try some more. I started out a little confused not realizing that moving a "tile" meant a row not a single square, but once I figured it out it was "How long have I been playing?" puzzle amnesia. I'll look for the mobile game, and try again for that high score! You might consider a mechanic to "trade" a few turns for 3 new random tiles, or perhaps you start with a limited number of "bombs" to clear a misplaced tile. Thanks for making this excellent puzzle game.
