LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Plunder of Goblin's Grove by aurel 2021-05-18T20:22:52Z

I had a really fun time with this. When I eventually knocked a Darkwing out of the sky above with a spear, I felt incredible. The animations were really good, although until today I didn't know that a living pile of goo had to turn and face me to attack. I appreciated the pop-up help messages. Really well done!

Project Orpheo by zondarg 2021-05-06T23:16:08Z

That was really fun. I managed to make it to the bomb but couldn't quite escape. If only I had 1 more life, like I assumed when I saw the remaining man symbol. My mistake. I liked the "Can't move on the ground" idea. That made it an interesting challenge to time the obstacles. Nice job!

Hole Town by dob 2021-04-28T05:33:28Z

I laughed so hard at the voiceover when I collected a gem. Sound was good. Theme was well used. I stayed up later that I should trying to beat the final level. I didn't get there, but I want to try again tomorrow. Great puzzles. Humor was excellent.

DDR: Dive Dive Revolution by Tyrannas 2021-04-29T02:35:08Z

Wow, what a gorgeous looking game! The controls were easy to understand once I figured out that left hand was for moving the diver and right had was for keeping the beat. Once I understood that, my overconfident brain barked conflicting orders to my poor fingers, resulting in that beautiful music essentially becoming my poor diver's funeral dirge. I ended up trying both versions, and I appreciate the chance for an easier mode, but I was terrible at both, even when I focused only on the beat. You might give some thought to changing your screenshots, as they show red/fail arrows instead of white/correct arrows. But what an experience! I don't think I'll forget this game. Thanks for making it.

Lone Signal by pyrofoux 2021-05-08T13:44:02Z

Nicely written story. It worked well with the theme, and the mood really captured the isolation of the character's journey through space. Nice story.

Dive into by foxy 2021-05-08T02:42:14Z

It was a nice take on the theme, it looked really good. Any game that encourages me to deal with my repressed hatred of broccoli is a winner in my book. Thanks for making this game!

Minerun by HenriqGiron 2021-04-29T00:51:52Z

I enjoyed the gameplay. I too attempted with the mouse and was not getting anywhere fast, but with the keys it was a lot faster. It was fun to try and line up a straight shot, only for one of them to take me to the next level! I noticed that once time ran out I could still click with the mouse until I reached the next level and it froze, but with keys it was truly game over. Something you might consider adding in is some squares filled with "Un-minable" rock (maybe more each level down you go) just to make the levels stand out and give the player just a bit more decisions to make. Very nice game. Thanks for making it.

depthscraper by lexi 2021-05-17T23:04:11Z

That was really fun! I got to 1700 after multiple tries, and I bookmarked your game's page to try some more. I started out a little confused not realizing that moving a "tile" meant a row not a single square, but once I figured it out it was "How long have I been playing?" puzzle amnesia. I'll look for the mobile game, and try again for that high score! You might consider a mechanic to "trade" a few turns for 3 new random tiles, or perhaps you start with a limited number of "bombs" to clear a misplaced tile. Thanks for making this excellent puzzle game.

Lonely Journey by blockerz 2021-04-27T07:16:50Z

I liked the mood in this game. The atmosphere made me feel alone, and I actually looked forward to the friendly chatter. The stars whizzing by in space was a great effect, and I like how it changed over time. I agree with others that the up/down velocity controls would be more intuitive if reversed. You might also consider adding to the course changes messages an indication of what the next planet's distance travelled will be, say for Mars, so I can more easily appreciate how far away it is and how much time must have passed while asleep. But I really enjoyed the game and the mood.

Date Night by Togis 2021-04-29T00:41:42Z

As someone who in real life has sent the "Leaving Now" text to his wife, I can totally relate to this game! I was fired, then scored 90something and then 108. I started anticipating where to put my mouse for the next click. Nice job on the sound. The music was pleasant to listen to but not too distracting - perfect for an office setting! I started to really hate the boss. Is he married to Charlie Brown's teacher by chance? I wonder if you could give the player some options to risk doubling up some tasks. For example, print a document but go back to the desk and hope to print more, then make a single run to the boss's desk to deliver 2 sheets, or swing by the printer with a cup of fresh coffee in your hand? Just a thought. Had a great time playing your game, so I wanted to send you this feedback before I meet my wife. (I hope she's not too mad.)

DRYVER by GuitarBro 2021-05-10T03:03:18Z

Had a lot of fun with this, but was unable to find the final piece. The atmospheric effects were really well done. I had to leave the mouse totally alone. The beacon lighting up the home base was a really nice touch so I never got lost going back. Thanks for making and sharing your game.

Bucket: A Space Odyssey by Carraka 2021-05-07T18:51:25Z

Thanks for making this game. It was really enjoyable to play. Great use of the theme. I enjoyed weighing out the choices presented. Really nicely written.

Oiligarch by dxk2294 2021-04-29T00:02:33Z

I really enjoyed your game. It took me an embarrassingly long time to see the "+" sign next to the Trucks to add a route. I totally understand why I don't deserve a nice lose screen. Very nice use of theme and humor. Thanks for making it!

Deepsea Alchemy by Hugimugi7 2021-04-28T03:54:07Z

So much to like! I liked the floating controls. Figuring out how to corral some ore for later made me feel really proud of myself. The sound effects were well done. I appreciated the change in tone when multiple ores were tractored in one after another. I eventually learned what ore was what, but it might have been helpful if a mouseover of raw ore would identify it. I played it for a long time and wanted to keep playing. Very nice job. The graphics look nice and I liked your take on the theme. For a game without much danger presented, I almost panicked when a hard-earned carbonite rolled off a ledge into the abyss!

DnD - Descending and Descending by Juan Matias 2021-04-29T03:26:28Z

Wow! What a fun game! It seems like it should be so simple, just don't hit anything. But that simplicity made me want to keep coming back and playing again. What an innovative concept with the mouse trail! More games should require the gamer to "show their work". Thanks for making this game! Again I say DNDWow.PNG

Deep Tweet by Dudum Lare 2021-05-15T21:10:00Z

I really enjoyed playing your game. The animation of the flying bird was really smooth as it transitioned from flying to landing. Really nice visuals. I caught myself more than once not answering a question because I was watching the bird fly around. That might make a really serene screensaver. Background music was pretty good. I like how it connected my answers at the end, but many of them were so long it didn't read well. Thanks for making and sharing this game.

ChronorhC by NikorasuChan 2021-05-07T18:08:37Z

I had a lot of fun playing your game. I hope you make more levels. The time-running-backwards idea was fun to experiment with, and balanced with the limited amount of time to spend pre-portal made for an fun balance. I tried to add some extra-long pauses between some of my jumps (to give me a better chance to land on top of myself), but upon playback they didn't seem to have any pauses between. I could however intentionally pause before entering the portal to allow a box to fully fall down. This was fun to play and I feel awesome that I made it to the end!

Workplace Sleep Syndrome by iMan 2021-04-28T04:43:49Z

Fun to play and figure out the opacity controls. I also kept losing attempting to use W to jump, instead of SPACE. Once I figured that out, I was on my way. Loved the humor in the mission cutscenes. Thanks for making this.

NO DIGGING by Kovakomes 2021-04-27T05:22:28Z

Once I figured out how to not die despite being disobedient, I had some fun trying to make shapes on the ground and see how far I could get a boulder to move after landing.

It came out of space by Suchista 2021-05-15T21:29:29Z

Nice game. Music was full of dread. The difficulty ramp-up was nice as it allowed me to figure out the limitations of the shooting and plan ahead for the next encounter. Nice use of check-point system! I really appreciated not having to start completely over. You really set a creepy mood with the music and other-worldly color selection. Nice job!

Research and Rescue by Kaleido 2021-05-10T02:07:34Z

I had a lot of fun playing this. I never quite got good at moving with WASD through the angled paths, but I managed. The sound was pretty good with the "scored a hit" sound letting me know how incredibly far my shots would travel. I did a lot of moving up, and firing while retreating. You might consider adding a secondary fire option (with limited shots) for those cases where you are cornered by a lot of little guys. The descending elevator effect looked really nice. It didn't affect gameplay but I noticed a strange secondary shadow showing on lower levels while near an elevator. Thanks for making this game, really well done.

Outerstellar by MadHumster 2021-04-29T01:20:03Z

Nice game! Music was catchy. Graphics were very well done, especially like the "Scanning unknown space" mechanic. Exploring the unknown is one of my favorite game mechanics, and you nailed it! You game really fits the theme well. I had a lot of fun playing it. Really like the mood of the cold emptiness of space. I did encounter a small bug. I was on fumes heading toward the HQ station when I ran out of gas but seemed to coast to the station. The onscreen text showed I was out of fuel and I could press R to respawn, but neither the movement nor E or R keys functioned. Ended up having to manually stop the game. But, before that I had lots of fun. Thanks for making the game.

Clockwork Abyss by Alexascher 2021-05-08T02:28:42Z

Really nice mood and use of theme. This has to be the most beautiful mechanical fish I've seen since Big Mouth Billy Bass! Thanks for making this game!

Bus Crawl by Valid 2021-04-28T04:27:40Z

This was fun. My second bus was a mis-click that resulted in a super short route. I was fun checking on how fast that little bus would fly after each upgrade. Very impressive simulation. If you add to this, you might consider a way to cancel a new route after one waypoint selected. You might have an optional bonus pop up from time to time, connect this stop to that stop in a limited time. New factory needs bus for workers. Thanks for making this game.

Doug Deep by jaoel 2021-04-27T07:56:31Z

Really fun game. The 3D graphics were awesome. There were so many small touches that added up, like a tiny shake when the drill began and ended. It was fun running around, but inside the ship it got to be a bit repetitive. Maybe if the left and right controls were closer to the up down controls? But, I really had fun with the game. The drill handling and acceleration when drilling versus when not felt really accurate. I'm impressed.

Wormhole Adventurer by Lakea 2021-04-29T01:41:38Z

I enjoyed the game. The icons were easy to interpret as far as scrap (big or small) and fuel. I thought turning was pretty slow. It actually affected how I navigated a level, I wanted to minimize turns even if it meant going a longer distance. I see above that you increase turn rate rate after upgrades. Perhaps you could keep that but raise the starting rate a little? Or you could give the player the option to spend some initial upgrade points at the start of the game, so I could choose between fuel, armor, laser, engine, or maneuverability (turning)? Just a thought. I really had some fun with this game. Thanks for making this.

Congratulations, Debt! by Thinh 2021-05-09T18:27:06Z

I really liked the use of color on the different textbooks and other items to purchase. Showing trees on the package of paper was funny, as well as the one that wasn't like all the others. Nice use of theme.

Now you see me by Haiyoooo 2021-05-07T17:42:00Z

Really nice game. The art and lighting effects gave off a creepy tone. Really well done.

The Mystery of Stalore-9 by Arthur Mairs 2021-05-08T03:13:17Z

The little creatures reminded me of aliens in Flashback or Fade to Black. Nice use of theme. Interesting mechanic for recharging energy. Really wanted to be able to shoot the oxygen tanks although that would probably be a really bad idea. Thanks for making the game.

Keyboard to the Depths by QYOUK 2021-05-15T20:39:23Z

I enjoyed your game. Nice use of tutorial levels. My favorite level was 2 with bouncing over the spikes a constant worry. The controls were easy to understand and the sound and music were nice. I'm not sure if allowing the player to hold keys down was intended as it made some challenges much less difficult, but timing the jumps was always fun. Very nice game. Thanks for making it.

Deep Space by Crazy32 2021-05-15T20:43:41Z

Thanks for making this game and sharing it!

Sharpy wheel by daine0 2021-04-27T07:37:30Z

I had issues with the web link, but the download worked. The visuals with the hand-drawn effect and color choice was really cool to watch. The wheel was indeed sharp-looking as advertised, and I thought I could tell that it was spinning faster and faster. I admit I couldn't get very far. Maybe consider moving the wheel slightly left on the screen to allow for a split second more reaction time, or tie it's horizontal position to the speed somehow. I also noticed there were 3 hearts (lives?), but I always seemed to lose all three at once. I liked your game. Thanks for making it.

Nice Fall by Nice Gear Games 2021-04-27T06:17:59Z

Really easy to figure out what to do. Was really fun racing the Computer, but would love to try with another player. You might try making a slightly different "stunned" tweeting sound for each player. You might consider giving a second of invulnerability once waking up from a crash. It was annoying to get a double-hit without being able to do anything about it. Nice job!

Amazing Rescue: Space Engineers by Cam Moore 2021-04-27T06:36:39Z

That was really fun. The controls were responsive. Before long I was zipping around the asteroids like a pro. The mechanic of tethering was fun and unique. I like how different it was playing as the probe versus an engineer. The intro was extremely well done! A couple of tiny things you might consider: The movement of the probe started too soon for me, often before I realized I was controlling it. Maybe a very short pause? And sometimes I died fast enough that I had one probe launching while another was still returning. (Maybe nobody else is that bad of a player to do that.) But it was immersion breaking when I lost the game if the probe died, because why couldn't the other probe I just saw come rescue me? But like I said, those were very tiny compared to the amazingly cool looking graphics and smooth gameplay. Well done!

Dive & Dig by andrewkennedy 2021-04-29T02:16:27Z

Well, I came to really hate the guy yelling at me about his expensive equipment Nice writing there. It took me a little bit to figure out that "Dig through the right wall meant" didn't mean the "Correct" wall as in Red or Blue. And when I brushed against the right wall I was confused why it didn't help. The AHA moment when I figured out what was intended was totally unexpected and made me feel like a genius for figuring it out, despite the snarky trainer's abuse. Thanks for giving me that moment with your game! The music was good, the sound of digging was good. Excellent use of the theme and humor. Fun game!

The Exit Is Deep by Exiled Burger 2021-04-27T04:52:02Z

Enjoyed the game. The wall jump mechanic was really fun. I eventually go to a spot that I couldn't quite get across. I hope you make more games.

Rust Bucket by Escortti 2021-04-27T05:38:48Z

I had a lot of fun with this. It took me a minute to get used to the controls, but I felt pretty comfortable after a while. Dodging the circular spinning shooters gave me that "I'm invincible" feel that I look for in a shmup. My suggestions would be, to make your laser's direction a bit easier to see, maybe by having it be a contrasting color. Also, the health hearts were sometimes difficult to see. I was able to get by some obstacles by down moving fast to get ahead of their barrage of shots. Maybe make that cost me if I try it too often.

Mine of Mine (web) by darkshadow 2021-04-29T02:54:54Z

Thanks for making this game. It was fun digging around and finding gold to mine. I like that the ground showed damage before being mined. One thing you might look at is the instructions text near the elevator didn't agree with my keyboard. But that didn't stop me. Once I collected a lot of gold, I wasn't sure what to do with it. But it was a fun experience and I'm glad you made it.

Thanks @dob, @iman, and @valid for your feedback.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-04-29T17:30:32Z

Thanks for the feedback and kind words. I really had fun writing this game.

@owinmowe The game was made with Twine 2 and Sugarcube. Glad you liked it.

@heidelbert I love those old text adventures, too. Planetfall was my favorite. I'm glad you enjoyed the game.

@eggland-games Thanks. I agree the mining part of the game needs more work. I had some ideas planned for ways to eke out a profit but I ran out of time.

@miej Thank you! "Soul-crushing" was exactly what I was shooting for. :)

@arthur-mairs Thanks for the very clever spoiler warning in your comment. It was really fun writing for the robot. I had a few more plans for the ending but I ran out of time. I'm glad you liked it!

@andrewkennedy Thanks for the feedback! I had a lot of fun slipping in meta comments since this is such a historic jam. There is a way to win, but it involves something more than your "paycheck". I'm glad you made it to level 5, but you were so close to seeing a new opportunity at a slightly higher level.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-04-30T21:14:05Z

@alexascher Thank you for your feedback. I had a lot of fun writing it.

@j-kyle Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

@natalia-dushkina Thank you for your feedback.

@carraka I'm sorry to hear about your canary. You are correct that I ran out of time. I had a more lengthy ending planned as well as a nearby village you could visit and discover a sympathetic Robot who might help you. Too bad I wasn't able to implement all that in time. Thanks for your feedback!

@zondarg I'm glad you like the story. Sorry you had trouble finding the canary option, but I'm glad you discovered it. Thanks for your feedback.

@hijomo Thanks for the feedback. I had a lot of fun writing it.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-05-15T20:03:58Z

@roka-josh Thanks for your feedback. I had so much planned that I had to condense down to submit on time, including multiple ways to win. I actually recorded some sound effects but was unable to implement and test in time. Thanks for playing.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-05-15T20:18:07Z

@togis Thanks for your feedback and for posting the video. That was really helpful to see your response to portions of the game, and to see you uncover a bug. I should have made it much more clear that the player had to clock out to advance the day, and prevent you from going back into the elevator again and again for no reason. If you do revisit the game, after your first shift there are some conversation chains that you might enjoy that give more background and provide some hints as to the way to the end. You were so very close to discovering something that would lead to the end, but multiple players have commented that it was really hard to see at the bottom of the screen. (You might take a look at your video at 2:03:13 near the very bottom of the screen.) Watching you play was great to see what you liked and what typos I missed and how players can try things in different ways than I anticipated. I learned a lot from watching you. Thanks again for posting it. (edit - fixed a typo in the sentence talking about typos. How ironic is that?)

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-05-17T20:36:50Z

@thinh Thanks for the feedback! I can think of several spots where I could break up the dialog into smaller chunks. I'm glad you had fun with the game. I sure had fun writing it.

48 Tons by Scruffylooking2121 2021-05-18T19:20:19Z

@aurel Thanks for your feedback! I was definitely inspired by that great song! I'm sorry you went through a loop and lost progress. I'm glad you enjoyed the canary ending but personally I've been having trouble sleeping at night since writing it.

Flying! In Space! But with Asteroids! by Syrail 2021-04-27T05:56:24Z

Really cool graphics and sound. I was unsure what I was doing or needed to be doing, other than dodge and click the wrenches. I finally figured out I didn't have to click the arrow keys with my mouse, but could use the keyboard's arrows. Maybe add a brief description to this page with some instructions might help.

Mr. Blue by burning_vortex33 2021-04-27T06:08:48Z

I liked the blue/good red/bad clear color distinction. The controls were easy to pick up. It was fun sneaking up on a bad guy and pushing him against the wall then retreating. I had trouble seeing both sides of the entire screen, but it could be my PC resolution.

Go up, Fall Deeper by DoctaDragon 2021-05-17T20:55:33Z

I enjoyed your game. I've used Construct 2 in the past and you put together a nice game using it. I liked the graphics and the Construction Man reminded me of an old platforming game called "Hard Hat Mack". I had to learn to control my jump by falling to the bottom over and over. I got better, but I never seemed to master it. Thanks for making me laugh during the intro and the first failed jump!

Salvage Quest by Rovernoon 2021-04-27T05:08:43Z

I enjoyed your game. It was really peaceful drifting along, until I encountered unfriendly sea-life. The controls were fun and it felt like I was floating. I had forgotten what key fired torpedoes when I first needed them, so perhaps a reminder might be nice. Really like your art style and use of color.
