The game is amazing, very fun to play and the music fits so well! Congrats!

nocymer 2021-04-29 01:06

Really cool game but sadly for me it was a bit laggy even tho i have a pretty good pc,anyway the music was great aswell as the game well done!

matthewsworld 2021-04-29 01:14

Short and sweet, but very sweet. The gameplay is smooth and the music is ear-candy. The only way I feel it could be improved aside from more levels would be slightly increasing the movement speed, but that's really about it!

ryan-harriman 2021-04-29 01:14

I really liked your game. The controls worked well. Only thing i wasnt crazy about was the repetitive sound effect of the weapon firing.

silas-reinagel 2021-04-29 01:15

Impressive game for 1 person! I really love the art style!

fuzzy-lobster 2021-04-29 01:18

Really neat game. The graphics are on-point and the music is really great.

enderr42 2021-04-29 01:19

Very well done, I can see it going places post-jam.

I very much liked the mood and the style you were going with, but if it was me i'd balance out some enemies: i'd have given the little guys less HP but have more of them, that way it would feel more satisfying to clear them out; The big one fires a line at the players position (old one) so it's easy to evade, I'd have done "leading" the player, but more random spread for bullets.

Overall, it's a great submission, good job!

michbet 2021-04-29 01:21

Movement felt a little sluggish. I love the isometric design and think the game turned out nice.

marcionix 2021-04-29 01:26

A basic but efficient way! Like it!

mharring 2021-04-29 02:19

Nice job! The music was great and helped set the tone well. I was hoping to unlock more mechanics (i.e. get a shield after saving the shield department) and I agree with enderr42 that the small enemies might have too much health, but overall the gameplay felt solid. Well done!

kaleido 2021-04-29 06:44

@mharring That was the original plan! I even had some cloaking mechanics prototyped, where you could drop aggro to recharge. But alas time... Thanks for playing my game and for the feedback!

@enderr42 Ah yes should have made it feel like mowing down the little guys. And for the larger ones I agree that some weapon spread would have been nice.

@nocymer always have had trouble with performance... :/ perhaps it's just the WebGL dealing with all of it.

pavel-smejkal 2021-04-29 09:47

Wow, great entry. I liked the clean design of the game and menu, attention to details such as particles from projectiles and pulsing HUD for energy as I was shooting. The sound effect also fit very nicely and the music was a good match even if not your creation. I also enjoyed that the game was not stretched unnecessarily, it was short and sweet. Overall nicely polished.

The one thing I've missed was some sort of decision making during the game play. Since I had just one weapon and movement, every encounter was about shooting and kiting (maybe a little tanking when in tight spaces). If I was able to for example slow the enemies, had some EMP to disable shields or at least be able to activate my own shield when I see projectiles incoming, it would bring some trade-offs and decision making. However, I totally get that the time is tight and it's better to have working and polished simple game rather than unfinished monstrosity :)

Anyway, good job!

P.S. The difficulty bump in Artilery department forced me to use all my secret kiting skills, luckily the bots did not lead their shots :D

sli 2021-04-29 20:23

Well I enjoyed playing it very much. I was actually deep in it until I found a bug by accident. One of the bots pushed me out of the level. So the theme got literal for me.. Obviously I didn't start from beginning, but I liked it very much. Overall great entry. Good Job.

Very cool game, that's impressive amount of work for a game jam! Maybe the enemy are a bit too strong? otherwise love the music and all the atmosphere!

arancutter 2021-05-09 15:20

I had a lot of fun with this. I really like the presentation and minimalistic graphics. The audio and music are really nice and fit well. It's a very stylish game.

I thought the enemies moved a little fast and took too much damage. I think it would be more satisfying taking out a hoard of weaker enemies. It also would have been fun having an alternative fire, like a rocket or grenade with a long cooldown.

I really enjoyed playing it. Great work!

someone 2021-05-09 15:32

That was a fun game. Smooth, well polished gameplay. Managed to activate an elevator too close to the edge and it left me behind so I ended up falling out of the level. The attack of the small ones could be improved, some kind of graphical effect. They seem to have an unexpectedly high attack range. I also think some simple animation on the robot would go a long way if you are planning on continuing this project.

preda 2021-05-09 15:44

I really like the presentation of this game, the small scientists compared to the player

twaerd 2021-05-09 15:54

Simple and fun game, but we can fall out of map if we aren't on the center of the elevator

starerik 2021-05-09 16:11

Very nice game! Short and sweet. Next time, think about opting out of rating categories that aren't relevant. In this example it would be "humor", so I decided not to rate that category instead of giving it a low score.

I really enjoyed it. Good graphics, good sound (however, the applause at the end was louder than everything else, so I wasn't ready for that.)

Very well done!

jakier 2021-05-09 16:13

Fantastic music! Shooting feels satisfying as it has a stopping power and a nice cling on hit.

However I found the game design to be frostrating - Enemies are fast, can tank hits for days, have long detection range and tend to swarm, while your guy is slow and sluggish and have a weapon that overheats very quickly. The maps are also too large for how slow you traverse them, backtracking can be a pain.

I think that with only a few variable changes you'd have a very solid and fun game in your hands!

kotzi 2021-05-09 17:45

Your game looks really good and the music is amazing. I agree with the last comment about the need of balance on the gameplay, however I found it fun to play. Congrats!

west 2021-05-09 18:00

Fun game, Got stuck in the first level by getting pushed on a wall by the experiments, then proceeded to fall into the closed room with the scientists.

Upon replaying I avoided this fate and had no further issues.

shigor 2021-05-09 18:45

I was amazed by the music, so I was a bit disappointed when I noticed that it's royalty free - going to rate mood anyway, because it was a really good choice. The game itself is pretty good and polished. About the only thing that annoyed me was that if I find researchers at first, I have to go through the rest of the level to clean experiments and then backtrack (happend to me on the second level).

goldone 2021-05-09 19:45

Excellent minimalist design, shooting feels very satisfying, and love the stopping enemies by hitting them. Also great how well rounded it is.

Overall, found the game a bit too easy though, and there is very little variety on what you can do with your robot other than move and shoot. Would be great to have more options, either melee, a dash or different weapons.

f1krazy 2021-05-09 19:45

I love the music, as well as the minimalist aesthetic of the graphics. I think my main gripe has already been mentioned before: enemies have a lot of HP and tend to swarm you, so you're stuck frantically backpedalling through the level while constantly taking damage, firing as much as your energy reserves will allow, and hoping you don't run into even more enemies. I got as far as the Artillery Department level and then I was immediately overwhelmed by far more enemies than I could ever reasonably be expected to fight.

With some balancing tweaks, this could be an excellent game. Keep up the good work!

deadmanjw 2021-05-09 20:14

Really cool game here, graphics are excellent as well as sound etc.. This is very well executed...Nice.

scruffylooking2121 2021-05-10 02:07

I had a lot of fun playing this. I never quite got good at moving with WASD through the angled paths, but I managed. The sound was pretty good with the "scored a hit" sound letting me know how incredibly far my shots would travel. I did a lot of moving up, and firing while retreating. You might consider adding a secondary fire option (with limited shots) for those cases where you are cornered by a lot of little guys. The descending elevator effect looked really nice. It didn't affect gameplay but I noticed a strange secondary shadow showing on lower levels while near an elevator. Thanks for making this game, really well done.

etrealjunior 2021-05-16 04:34

Congratulations on the game, the environment is very cool combined with the audio, the idea was well executed, I hope you will continue with this project and in the future add new mechanics and enemies, and prevent the player from using the distance to keep the enemies inactive, as well making it easy to destroy them, a big hug if possible can give feedback on my game I will be grateful.

This was awesome! First off, I loved that menu screen and the in game UI, minimal and CLEAN. The controls at the top left could have been hidden after the first level, but it never got in the way. The sound effects were great and communicated things clearly. The art style overall is one of my favorites, the lil researcher dudes especially. SO CUTE

There were a couple parts where you can get to places where you shouldn't be able to go like if you don't go in the elevator all the way, you can jump out of the map and enemies can push you onto walls

halp im in jail! Research_Rescue3.png

I agree with other commenters about additional upgrades + challenge, but this was a REALLY solid jam entry
