LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Bunker Björn by phantom-lab 2021-05-03T14:24:38Z

Very strong submission - very nice atmosphere and consistent, nice visuals. Game mechanics are satisfying as well.

As others before me suggested, I think the main thing to point out is a bit of a lack of variety. Adding collectable items, different weapons etc. to the game would be great.

Some more background sounds or music would also be nice!

Lonely Journey by blockerz 2021-04-27T21:57:02Z

Love the theme, and the humour! And it really had this "one more turn" effect of wanting to continue.

Think my main feedback would be around UI - while it looked pretty, the "quests" were initially hard to find. And it felt a bit slow paced at times when having to wait for fuel to tick back up

Vertigo by GaryS 2021-05-03T14:11:35Z

Very nice game - very beautiful art work (very much love the fonts also). Controls felt very satisfying, with the exception of combat which felt a bit on the clunky side.

And thanks for sharing the info about Phaser - had never heard of it until today.

Deep Mine Ventures by PatrickRMC 2021-05-16T15:52:19Z

Really nice submission! Quite a decent amount of content given the time available in the compo. A minor thing I would have changed would have been to add a ladder to the right side next to the shop to be able to get down there.

Also, an arrow showing where the shop is would have been lovely.

Lastly, a bit of "coyote time" would have been nice when jumping, definitely caused me to fall a few times.

But overall, great piece of work! I feel there is great potential in the game, and potential to add many more things (maybe a grappling hook, some enemies, dynamite, etc.)

Dwarf Bros by Kurama_Youko 2021-04-25T21:15:31Z

Really love the art style and the game idea looks great! But unfortunately, doesn't seem like the link works...

Dwarf Bros by Kurama_Youko 2021-05-09T19:52:08Z

Great to see the link working now!

Really love the game concept - very innovative! Graphics are great and music/sounds are decent too. Think the main issue is that there aren't a lot of ways to stop your mate once you've gone down one level. More gray rocks would be great so you can stop the guy more actively.

Monster journal: a short story by Fenderbate 2021-05-03T17:10:28Z

Excellent submission - distinctive art style and colour scheme, and a simple yet satisfying mechanic. Think the combat would benefit from a bit more of anticipation animations before attacks by enemies though, I personally felt it was a bit challenging.

If you decide to build upon it, would also love to see a great variety in possible attacks or blocks.

Drill by Laurari 2021-05-16T15:58:17Z

Really great game! Very well polished, nice graphics and UI, matching sound, nearly perfect!

I personally would have liked it more if the input was flipped, so that you "pull" the drill rather than using a "slingshot". And there was a weird effect where if you go straight down, the camera doesn't move far enough and you can hardly see anything further down.

I'd also love another mechanic to add more difficulty - maybe rocks that you shouldn't hit, or mines, or worms that chase you down. The lack of fuel doesn't feel threatening until it is too late.

But all in all, an excellent piece of work!

Happy Digger by Panagiotis Iatrou 2021-05-09T20:04:15Z

Such a great soundtrack! Starts out slow but becomes very addictive with different types of ore and upgrades, really got me hooked! Well done!

Shovel is just Love Spelled Backwards by very dark lord 2021-05-09T17:00:12Z

This is a great entry! The graphics are top-notch, the music very fitting and the theme excellent. Assume you consciously went for the relatively slow pace, but found that be a little bit reducing the experience overall.

Research and Rescue by Kaleido 2021-05-09T19:45:07Z

Excellent minimalist design, shooting feels very satisfying, and love the stopping enemies by hitting them. Also great how well rounded it is.

Overall, found the game a bit too easy though, and there is very little variety on what you can do with your robot other than move and shoot. Would be great to have more options, either melee, a dash or different weapons.

grGRIDid by John Gabriel 2021-04-25T21:39:18Z

This game is amazing! Love the art and concept

RRRR U Scared ? by Chalivat Quentin 2021-05-09T16:42:01Z

The best main menu ever! Also, amazing graphics, solid gameplay and decent balancing. I think most people have already pointed out the slightly odd control scheme driven by the French keyboard. The only other bit is that dying feels a bit unsatisfying. Maybe a sinking animation would have made that feel more lively. But all in all, this is an excellent game!

Submersive by deadmanjw 2021-04-27T21:38:52Z

Really love the idea - shame you didn't manage to implement all that you wanted. Love the look of the submarine and the finish, and the feeling of depth. Only thing to call out were the controls which felt a bit artificial - but still a great job with the limited time!

Vacuum Kingdom by Prof.Suarez 2021-04-27T21:42:45Z

Really nice idea - liked the distinctive art style and nice pacing. I had a few issues with dropping frame rate, and found that the music, while nice, didn't really fit the theme.

Subterrene by SamarthMP5002 2021-05-09T17:08:43Z

Very good entry! Simple but solid gameplay, and really liked the use of lighting to anticipate what's happening next. The thing that felt missing though was some type of time pressure. Maybe you run out of energy slowly even when not using boost? Also, background music would have been nice or a bit more of a drill sound.

N.E.R.D.S by Xparker 2021-05-16T16:03:25Z

First of all - I just love the game title!

Mechanics were solid, graphics nice (in particular the planets once discovered). Would have loved a bit more feedback of when you are about to die, and maybe some animation to show you exploding. :) But all in all, really enjoyed it!

Mystical Island by azakharov 2021-04-27T21:20:24Z

Love the concept and the interpretation of the theme! Also rely conveys the feeling of being stranded on your own very well!

Only thing I was struggling with was to anticipate what my actions will lead to. Might make it easier to give players more input so they can make more informed decisions.

Drill Sergeant by GoldOne 2021-04-27T21:58:19Z

@anthonyharmitage - Yes, I would have loved to make the map procedural but unfortunately time didn't allow to do that. But may still do it in an "Extended Edition", just to try it out.

Drill Sergeant by GoldOne 2021-04-27T21:59:14Z

@nocymer - thanks! yes, I did notice the sound got annoying at times but ran out of time to look into that. But a well placed grenade should fix that issue ;)

Drill Sergeant by GoldOne 2021-04-27T22:00:19Z

@ghost-wave thanks for the feedback - yes, for the LD submission i'll figure out how to compose music, i promise :)

Highly Successful Research Submarine by James Macgill 2021-05-02T18:42:25Z

Great idea and solid execution! One of the best jam games I've seen thus far.

While the tutorial is nice to bring some of the backstory, there could be a bit more info on what you have to do (e.g. which parts you need etc)

The key bindings are a bit unintuitive, e.g. rotating with R would make a lot more sense to me

Kurou's mind fights by NoCymer 2021-04-27T22:07:01Z

The art, theme, feel and sound were all amazing - probably one of the prettiest games I've tried so far! I also really like the mechanic of insanity, but I would have not linked it to lives as that means that when you are already struggling, it makes things even worse. Maybe it could have been just simply the further down you go, the more insane you become. It would also be great to get some advance warning of when the next insanity effect will hit. I.e. having the breathing a few seconds before.

Lastly, this might be part of your theme but the movement felt a bit unresponsive at times (in particular the attack).

HELL deep is your love? by Villanelle 2021-05-16T15:38:37Z

Really great game, level design and music. As other people said, the difficulty was reasonably high, but at least you keep enough progress to keep going. Very well done!

She Waits Below by AbigailCorfman 2021-05-02T19:23:37Z

Great game - very mind bending! Unfortunately I got stuck at some point and didn't manage to continue... Think a hint button within the game would be nice, as I only afterwards noticed there were hints available.

Swarm! by Ghost_Wave 2021-04-27T22:22:56Z

Really love the concept, the art style, the sound and the music - they all fit well together. How did you do the "bent screen" effect by the way?

One thing that would be great would be for the traps to synergize more - e.g. having alien types that have to be softened up by one trap so the next can kill it, or something like that.
