Nice game! For some reason it begun to stutter at the end, but I played it through and it was funny. I liked the pixel physics and heavy metal mood.... And the cute redhead protagonist

I like the idea of why are we going deep. Gameplay is fun but a little bit slow. Atmosphere, art and music are going well together.

roboolet 2021-05-03 11:13

Controls are a little iffy (mainly just slow and floaty), but i like the concept a lot, and i enjoyed playing it. Nicely done! Be sure to rate other peoples games so more people see this one, i don't think this game deserves to be ignored

labete 2021-05-03 11:17

Dialogues are hard to read, letters are merged (and that is very sad, I would love to know what's being said). Art is nice, animation cool. Nice water/lava/sand/acid usages. Very cool game.

very-dark-lord 2021-05-03 11:22

@roboolet thanks for your feedback! Indeed, controls could be improved. Will definitely be the case in the post jam version. And indeed, we're about to rate more games, just didn't get around to doing so until now. :)

@labete might I ask which browser you've been playing this in? Car monologue looks fine to me, but the rendering may differ depending on environment. Thanks for playing!

Visually amazing, I loved the sand physics. The music is cool, and I think it goes well with the theme of hell, but the gameplay is too slow to really fit.

Solid entry overall, good job!

dest-69 2021-05-03 11:44

Have an nice mecanics, but after 5minutes of gameplay music start destroying my mind :)

labete 2021-05-03 11:56

@very-dark-lord ChromeShovel.png At some points I can guess what's being said, but it's still hard to read.

very-dark-lord 2021-05-03 12:37

@labete thanks for the screenshot! Peculiar, haven't seen that before. If anybody else encounters the same issue please let us know! We'll have a look, but given we haven't been able to reproduce that so far ourselves, I doubt we'll find a solution quickly.

Kinda slow to get to the game-play itself.

The controls were a bit cumberson to switch from f to enter etc. woiuld be good if you could point with a mouse where to dig as it never dug in the area that i mainly expected, that coupled with the slow animations made it a bit tedious at time.

Music and SFX were not balanced well and lots of noise.

Animates are good but slow moving, the load screen between levels for example, felt a bit frustrating.

The level design was great. Loved the puzzles of it and how the water interacted with for example.

nusan 2021-05-03 14:51

Awesome physic and impressive "pixel particle" reaction system, I liked the puzzle even if I often had the sensation I was using an alternate solution, digging around obstacle instead of using water for example. It took me a moment to understand where the digging will happen in different situation. The story is sweet but even the devil don't deserve a stalker :D The music in title and bonus level is cool but the music in the main story seems too energetic for a puzzle game, maybe it should have been used only between levels to characterize Diana. Anyway, it was a great experience!

Definitely an interesting twist at the end. As others have said the levels play a little slowly. I also had issues with the text sometimes freezing and not progressing on to the next message unless I kept pressing space for 30-60 seconds after the message had finished appearing.

filgru 2021-05-04 21:58

Hehe :) Nice twist at the end! Awesomeee music!!! I like the dialogues and the plot. I enjoyed playing this game a lot! Maybe I would tweak little bit controls, like jump, speed of the character, etc. Besides that, Great work!

vixenmink 2021-05-08 02:39

Verrry nicely done. Music, sound fx, light indicator for where you are digging; even cut scenes! Love it!

Maybe make an indicator that you are having a status issue like drowning.

mighty-mufflon-games 2021-05-08 07:23

The art style is awesome and gameplay and physics are cool, but a bit slow. The idea is really special in a good way. Nice entry!

(I wasn't able to reach the end yet.)

collin-visser 2021-05-08 11:46

Got past the gatekeeper but then died multiple times because can't seem to always jump the abyss into the sharp rocks. Died in the green water as well. But overall a good game, will play again when have more time. Music is a bit too loud to my ears, even though I like Metal. I loved the dialogue between her and the gatekeeper.

goldone 2021-05-09 17:00

This is a great entry! The graphics are top-notch, the music very fitting and the theme excellent. Assume you consciously went for the relatively slow pace, but found that be a little bit reducing the experience overall.

very-dark-lord 2021-05-11 11:06

Thanks everyone for all the feedback!

@vixenmink indeed, for the postjam version we're considering having a healthbar, or some other way to indicate when drowning happens. Right now that's pretty intransparent and surprising when it happens I guess. :D

@collin-visser I slightly adjusted the level to make that part easier. In case you're still up for playing the rest, the game should still know which levels you had unlocked, given you're playing in the same browser. It's possible though that there are issues with loading the level that make them impossible - we haven't seen these in a while, but I can't rule out that it may be happening for some players. Hope that's not the case, either way, sorry for the frustration!

The green water is actually acid, and it even reacts nicely with other substances. Sadly we had such little time for level design towards the end of the jam that we weren't able to demonstrate that, despite how cool it is. :( So in the end the acid is pretty pointless in the game's jam state sadly. Will be much more prominently featured in the postjam version.

@goldone Thanks a lot! To be honest, the slow pace wasn't fully intentional. Rather the crunch time was so intense that we didn't manage to tweak such obvious things as there was just too much super essential stuff to get done within very short time. In the end it would just have been changing two variables in the code, but we couldn't be sure the levels would still work with those adjustments. Really sad as that's the major point of criticism, but we'll learn from it and hopefully do better in future jams. :)

vixenmink 2021-05-12 00:30

@very-dark-lord Thank you for replying to us all. Definitely keep up the good work and I hope to play through a postjam version similarly to everyone else :)

simonl 2021-06-06 20:44

I just played through the whole thing including bonus levels. Definitely engaging

+ the destructible surroundings and especially the particle/fluid physics were remarkable and definitely a surprise for a 72h game - except the occasional lava flowing upwards, it worked pretty damn well + nice intro and cutscenes. The initial car scene with the guitar soundtrack reminded me somewhat of borderlands + the music was very nice, but didn't fit so well to the slow digging. A little tweaking here would have had a big impact + I really dug the art style! + Had a good laugh at the ending

Great entry!
