Up & Away! by bytegrove 2015-09-02T11:49:00
Very nice! Reminds me of the old collectathon games I used to play on my PSX. The player model looks really good! My only complaint is that the controlls feel somewhat slippery every now and then.

Awesome! Pro-tip: use both hands.
Great idea! The only thing I'd complain about is the exit on escape and the lack of level selection or something like that (you might see the two are somewhat related).
The graphics, mechanics, music and levels are great!
Top notch graphics and audio - but the enemies tend to glitch up and end up as easy targets. Anyways, great job!
Cool entry, I managed to play to the end.
The good:
+ The story and dialogue
+ The music was pretty good and fits that bizarre feel
+ Interesting concept
+ Cool animations and graphics ESPECIALLY the trailer and announcer
The bad:
- Movement felt sort of slugish
- Various random animation glitches
- Unskippable + slow intro
Obviously the bad sides are mostly minor remarks and overall I found this game enjoyable and interesting.
Cool game!
Great look and music, the controls were giving me a hard time though.
Overall an alright game, with nice ambiance, the intro was awesome.
Nice gameplay, controls feel kind of stiff - especially when jumping. Graphics are top notch.
Graphics are nice, music is fitting - overall nice mood. The gameplay itself is a drag though. Wish there was an autowalk button for the cutscenes :D
Cool premise and concept, decent art and sfx. Slightly too long for comfort thanks to those pesky shield knights. Liked the simetric TP.
More coming soon?
Good game, fantastic message, nice mood and feel. Nice job!
Pretty cool game, I liked the mechanics though it looks like they are heavily inspired by Snakebird. The graphics are pretty cute too, except the background texture. The soundtrack made me smile, though I feel like the loop is too short. Nice level design!
Great game, has a bit of that Crypt of the Necrodancer feel. The aesthethic is great, the sfx are satisfying. The generation is good. Great game overall.
Very well made game, great graphics and feel. What mrjorts said stands though.
Really cool idea, cute gfx and audio, though I feel the level difficulty ramps up pretty quickly. Not too sure how it fits the theme in general though.
Needs some music, the instructions were cool.
Interesting idea, SFX were adequate. Instructions not really clear though.
Great look and feel, wish it was longer, but alas.
Job well done, nice graphics, gameplay and audio!
Great look, great feel, simple yet fun.
The game is too repetitive and slow paced for my taste - still managed to keep me somewhat entertained until the end. The ending was cool.
Great graphics and smooth movement, but the music doesn't match the look and feel well. As far as player attack go - I don't see why anyone would use the short range one since its very unsafe compared to the strong attack which really has no trade off. The spawning is bad too - not really much of a point fighting until you reach the boss, and sometimes the red guy spawns on you if you fight and just kills you. I think the enemies need a longer windup animation. Also the boss kills you instantly without much of a warning forcing you to restart and maybe try again, this time expecting it - step up on the platform and boom 0.5 seconds later a giant rock hits me.
A game with good presentation and potential, but falls short in a couple of important game design aspects - most importantly, fairness.
The controls and graphics are very responsive. I was thoroughly disturbed, good job!
The graphics, audio and sfx match really well. The gameplay is responsive. I completely lost it at the end screen. GJ :)
Cool idea, but the lack of difficulty makes it interesting only in a novelty kind of way.
Great art and great sfx!
Combat system is cool, graphics are great, love the light. I found the ending quite predictable though, and the encounters with the enemies somewhat lacking variety and challenge.
The power/curse system is cool, the level generation and size seems a bit lackluster ATM. Not sure if this is a bug or not - but when I clear all the initial enemies, nothing appears to happen.
Super fun!
Really good art, music and concept. Player feedback was satisfying, really enjoyed seeing those buildings crumble!
Full of bugs though - try firing the laser while jumping. Also got magically stuck in the ground after a jump and couln't move. The controls could've been a bit more responsive.
Fantastic! Has a nice Darkest Dungeon vibe.
Great idea, though my index finger hurts :(
Everything is good, the concept is sound, but dammit the backtracking is killing me.
The concept is good, would be cool to see a further developed version.
Thank you everyone for the support!
Here's a quick playthrough for those of you who are stuck somewhere!

Simple and cool, the voiceover makes it gold!
Very interesting story and look - the only downside are the various bugs related to different resolutions.
The mood, story and graphics are awesome.
The colliders were a bit too big though.
The game looks very nice, concept is interesting, it's also fairly relaxing. My only complaint is that the dragon heads move too slow when they reshuffle, otherwise good job!
Solid mechanics, pretty cute graphics, nice music. Though it would be nice if it looped properly and there werent any of those awkward silent moments. Could use some more challenging levels though.
Gameplay is simple, but fun. Enemy variety adds to the game, music is outstanding.
This is excellent!
Amazing graphics and simple and fun gameplay.
- Don't quite like the music, effects are cool though.
Great graphics, great game and sound, fantastic mood.
This was hilarious! It has a great feel and vibe, but gameplay could use some more depth.
Great job guys.
Really cool take on the infinite runner genre.
Really good game, too bad I'm terrible at it :D
Ah crap, I got stuck in someones magical realm again. Well this was weird.
Interesting concept.
Pretty cool game, though apparently there was supposed to be some music that didn't appear to play for me.
Simple and cool concept, nice graphics, cool sound that sets the mood. Good job!
Cool game and cool idea, wonderful graphics.
Graphics and audio work extremely well together, and both are fantastic.
The controls are pretty strange though.
Cool and soothing game.
But listening to that 10 second loop for 10 minutes has melted my brain. :(
Interesting concept, though an actual goal would do wonders for a game like this.
Really interesting concept!
A lot of potential, excellent graphics and decent audio work. There appears to be some input lag for the shooting though.
The graphics and audio are excellent!
I also enjoyed the dialogue - the first time I read it, that is.
The game is also pretty fun once you get the hang of it.
Great graphics and audio, good gameplay, lots of content.
How did you pull this off?
Interesting game, cool graphics and sound. Good work!
Smart controls, wonderful graphics, great audio!
Great!
The graphics and mood are good, the gameplay feels empty though.
Thanks for the comment!
Permissions need to be set for the executable file using chmod.
Thanks for the kind words!
@squarebridges: If by down you mean S - then I forgot to remove some early debug code so it might be interacting a bit fiddly with the rest of the game >.<
I'll be reuploading a fixed build later today.
@Warboys:
Theres a *secret* button. Don't tell anyone!
Overall pretty fun - took me a while to get the hang of it. Could use some refinement.
The sfx are earkilling though.
I love the venus model and animations!
The stem and leaves generation looks pretty cool too.
Wish it had some audio though, would add a ton moodwise.
The concept is alright, but the input feels too rigid.
Cool mechanics and fantastic style, great job!
Very cool game, great job guys!
The radar mechanic is pretty cool. The sounds is good too. My only complaint is that maneuverability of the cell is pretty low.
Really good entry, simple(but definitely not easy) and fun to play.
Cool game.Running out of batteries is my new nightmare :D
Great idea, but it gets really repetitive fast, if it had a few more game mechanics it would be perfect. Atmosphere is a big +. Good job! :D
Really good game, but I really hope for the whole story (replayed it for both white and black door hoping that there is more...)
Really nice game, graphics look nice and its fun. It would be great if it was a little harder tho.
Excellent graphics, great music, good voice acting, really a great game :D good job
Great music and art, but no idea what I'm doing :D
Best game ever 10/10 :D love it
Really fun game to play, loved the humor. A little bit more control would make this perfect, but still a great entry.
Graphics and music are top-notch.
Great game, music switch is hilarious.
Really cool idea, graphics are great, music fits really well, but it gets a little bit boring after a while. Still a great game
Really nice game. If there were more of those I would most definitely play it. Good job :D
Cool entry, love these memory type games. Art is also really good.
Really fun game, takes a bit of time to figure out what they want, but it's good fun. Good job :D
Great idea, but it gets boring once you find a good angle and then you just keep shooting. If enemies varied in height that enough would make it challenging.
Nice idea, graphic look cool but quite a few bugs and glitches.
Really fun game. I truly enjoyed it. Good job :D
Really fun to play, but it would be great if there where more mechanics involved.
Great game, simple but fun. Got 28 kills, but damn it gets really hard :D
@t4u Just to clarify that seeing object through other objects is no bug. It was meant to be that way so that the player can know where his object is, but he needs to realize if its inside or behind.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and insightful critique!
We're super glad you're having fun :)
@t4u: I agree on that the highlight could have been implemented better - we struggled on getting a proper outline shader going so due to time constraints we had to just go with what kinda worked. Neither of us know how to actually write shaders. Maybe in a future update we can get that thing going the way it should be.
@Birke: I completely agree about the marked when grabbed thing, totally missed that idea.
Excellent entry, really simple but fun to play. Gets really hard once it starts speeding up. Great game! :D theme song is totally dope
Such a great game, simple but fun and also quite challenging. Fits the theme perfectly. Great job guys :D
Loved the pun in the name. Gameplay gets quite repetitive after a while though, and I didn't really feel the need to upgrade speed - I've mostly had trouble with the line being too short! I felt like some sort of visual indicator when you're near the end of the line would be cool. Cool music!
Very interesting puzzle game - appears simple at first glance, but there's a lot in it. Overall very clever idea and design, and polished implementation. Well done!
I liked the helipad mechanic. The sprite pack and music choice was decent. Well answered theme. Quite like how the little dudes are moving around the villages and that you can chat with a lot of them :)
Incredibly polished - very attractive art, coherent music, on point with the theme, gameplay interesting and intuitive. Gets repetitive after a couple of runs, and it's quite easy - given more time, content and tuning I feel this could be a very tight and fun game.
The concept, premise, and the core objectives of the game fit the theme well. The visuals of exploring space and uncovering parts of the terrain support the theme, and give a sort of claustrophobic tension, at least in the first moments of going into the unknown. The positive and hopeful music appears to fight that feeling, but it becomes more appropriate as the game shows it's true face as a relatively relaxed pick up and deliver exploration game.
On the other hand, the controls feel stiff (and not 0G floaty). Turning the ship felt unresponsive, and it was as if it's fighting against me. My biggest pet peeve were the abrupt and hard collisions in space - like a pigeon slamming into the side of the white house - firstly with the space pods, and worse, when slamming into the invisible barriers around the suns. Stars are indeed dangerous, but a visual indicator where the collider is would be a great help. Or even removing the collisions in general! I don't feel they add much to the gameplay (at least to the part where I've played), and space is 3d, so hypothetically you could fly over or under stars and pods - that suggestion is coming from the fact that the star station has no collision - which works quite fine.
tldr Relaxing, interesting, fits the theme, fun until you collide with anything and stop like you just walked into a lamp post while staring at your phone.
Fun game. Enjoyed the multitasking aspects. Visuals were decent individually but it felt like they don't quite make up a coherent whole. The tutorial is appreciated! The artifact cleaning mini-game was a really cool addition and really sold the concept of it being about archeology not just about digging a hole!
I've enjoyed the aesthetics and sound of the game. Missing a bit more feedback on player inputs and things happening - like a placement sound, buy sound, or even dwarf sounds for that little extra oomph. The pylons are an interesting take on controlling the dwarfs - it could be interesting to see if somehow adding different pylons that require different mats could add a bit more depth to the game (pun not intended).
Loved the take on the theme, just the title screen had me smiling. All the various other props in the background were also quite interesting and funny.
