LD30 — Connected Worlds

Big Fish Little Fish by adamyounis 2014-08-25T07:11:00

Haha thanks, It's not your fault. I made a decision not so long before i submitted to make it so that you can only attach to sharks when they have less than half of their health, but there's currently no visual feedback that that is happening. If i could spend more time, that would definitely be one of the first things I would change.

Thanks for your reviews guys. I am a bit bummed I couldn't quite get that game loop tightened very well but I'm glad you like some of the production values. This was a huge step up from my last Ludum Dare entry, so I expect a lot of myself next time. Hopefully something that's fun and functional.

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

The Ultimate Corn Protector by ezolotko 2015-12-14T08:12:00

Really great mood on this one. The gameplay was so-so but the actual sensation of riding the bike with the independent camera was awesome. I just rode around on it for like 5 minutes. The noise overlay was also a nice touch.

Arkanika by DrZanuff 2015-12-16T04:28:00

A neat mashup between Pong and Breakout. I like the character art and the music but I thought the upgrade tokens could be clearer in their function and more distinct form each other. I was also a bit confused as to what each menu option did, it looks like they all just run the game? I thought the AI opponent was well-balanced. Overall pretty enjoyable.

CMDR LR by timtipgames 2015-12-14T08:05:00

Really fun! I enjoyed this one so much I made sure I beat every top score on the chart (4.88 for level one, come at me!) I thought the premise was a bit silly (why stars?), but the mechanics were really solid. Seriously I'd play a more fleshed out version of this, definitely.

Space Research Team by pinion 2015-12-14T08:35:00

I like the idea of co-op. The coordination aspect was very "QWOP" obviously but it was still fun. With a bit more polish I could see this kind of game being something I play with a friend.

The Life of John by jackyjjc 2015-12-15T06:24:00

This was really cool. I think some visuals would have made it a little easier to maintain a sense of what my choices were reflecting (reading is hard). Overall the concept, balance and gameplay were spot on. I really like how it relates to the theme as well. charming :)

Great Nation by StuffBySpencer 2015-12-14T23:56:00

Pretty good game, though I felt like I was losing only because there were certain cards that didn't show up / exist. The production values were good though, and I played a few games. I think the framework is strong, I'd play a deeper version for sure.

Wonky Ship by Slashee the Cow 2015-12-15T06:33:00

I enjoyed this. That organ track was giving me some serious beach boys "good vibrations" vibes, which was a little weird but definitely not a bad thing. The controls were pretty cool and I didn't find myself getting too disoriented. Challenging but enjoyable :)

Give and Take by Move127 2015-12-16T02:26:00

I enjoyed this sim. You did well to model all of those phenomena in such an abstract game, everything felt reasonably balanced. I'm not sure I understood fully how I was interacting with the system, some kind of indicator would have helped. If you expand on this game, consider a growing world map! I'd love to see this happening at 5x the size :)

Snow Growth Island by Pontus_LSS 2015-12-14T23:28:00

Not an especially deep game by any means, but there's a nice ambiance to it with the music and day / night cycle. Faster signs with more difficult choices would make this a fun game. Maybe even if it was a mobile game that took place over days / weeks, with each "sign" as a push notification?

World Grower - Growth of the civilization by rhebsgaard 2015-12-14T07:37:00

I liked this one. The music seemed disjointed at first but I thought after a while it was pleasant. I can see there's depth in the systems, but perhaps was a bit ambitious for 48 hours? With more time, I can see a strong game here.

Sunder Farm by BudaDude 2015-12-15T03:25:00

This game is *so* slow! A fast-forward button would be really appreciated. Otherwise, a really nice and relaxing experience. I enjoyed the music and graphics a lot. I especially adored seeing that little yawn animation at 25% energy. That was a great touch. I think with a little more pace and depth, this would make a great little game to have running in the background while I do stuff at work.

Egggs by simon.parzer 2015-12-15T01:03:00

Really great entry! I was so curious to see what would happen when I reached the largest version of outer space. The result was awesome and melted my brain. I figure the game itself isn't so much "fun" as it is "entertaining" just sort of seeing what's going to come out of the egg next. The music changes were cool too. Great art, nice game loop. I really enjoyed it!

Swordsman's Life by hcosta 2015-12-15T03:44:00

This isn't a bad concept, though there's not much diversity to the interaction. I would be careful about using copyrighted material though, I think most of the midis used the exact compositions of the games they were paying homage to. I did like the text and animation. With more time and care this could be a fun parody game.

UpgradeShipWinGame by Digitaldude555 2015-12-15T00:50:00

Really intense galaga-style game. I quite liked the balance between going out and collecting debris and trying to avoid incoming ships. The upgrades were timed quite well but I thought the sound / enemies were a bit samey. Still, no bugs, the game ran smoothly and reliably, good work.

Fish Simulator 2k15 by willchil 2015-12-14T23:37:00

A nice version of the "eat or be eaten" concept. I found it difficult to find smaller fish, the indicator was a nice touch but perhaps a "crosshair" of sorts would have made it a bit easier. That said, I liked the fact it was hard to gauge if something was actually small or just far away... I got a kick out of that. Perhaps fewer fish with more complex AI and stronger feedback would have made this a bit easier to stay engaged, but I enjoyed the time I played. The sound and graphics had a nice ambiance.

Bad Cloud by pedrorossa 2015-12-15T03:37:00

This is a cool concept. I liked the polygonal world a lot, the sound effects were pretty good too. I think the gameplay could use some work, though: The camera was a bit fiddle-y and it wasn't always clear where my lightning was hitting or why I would want to use "rain" option.

Cube Wars by Chubb1337 2015-12-14T07:46:00

Pretty fun game. It's a bit frustrating to have to always shoot and run in the same direction, I developed a kind of sniping technique after a while. Still, I enjoyed the level design and the palette was nice. That subtle camera shake was also much appreciated.

I'm not sure what the yellow squares were supposed to do. the first one I got gave me a shield but every one after that did nothing? My impression was that I broke it somehow.

Natura by Eldraev 2015-12-16T04:38:00

A really fun take on the 1-button runner. I enjoyed how your incorporated the theme visually and little touches like the parallax effect on the background shows you know what you're doing. Your art style is very unconventional but it works well here. The music was also great. Though the game was quite unforgiving and difficult to tell where my hitbox was, I had fun. Good job overall.

Sentient Sewage by blakeohare 2015-12-16T00:00:00

This game has such an interesting mechanic. It's really fun to "reject" the chlorine bricks but not with the central panel. I developed a pretty viable technique of aiming just in front of where it will land so it continues in the direction it's already going. What was really cool is that it became easier to gauge as I played.

I enjoyed this, though the production values were a bit simple, still a fun experience.

Defend the Earth by PsyonBurst 2015-12-16T00:06:00

The difficulty curve / controls need a bit of balancing. At the beginning there aren't enough meteors to stay engaged and at the end there are too many to defend against. If the deflector increased in speed with the meteors, that would have made this more interesting to me.

Conceptually it's a nice job though. I like the clockwise / anticlockwise control scheme.

Cardboard Conundrum by Viperfish9 2015-12-14T08:47:00

Fits the theme on both counts. The gameplay is pretty fun too, but I think an auto-restart, or at least something more accessible, would have been helpful. I found myself losing interest having to pull the restart tab every time.

Other than that, the graphics and sounds were fun. This could be a cool ipad game with gyro controls.

Snake Dog by Waynetron 2015-12-15T06:16:00

Really fun! You haven't gone too ambitious with your concept but the execution is really impressive. Sounds are great, graphics are neat and gameplay is smooth. Great job.
