LD48 — Deeper and deeper

depthscraper by lexi 2021-04-27T08:27:06Z

Draws heavily from 2048 and Tetris while not being a copy at all. Really fun game that I could totally see myself playing with a mobile device while commuting.

The game could use some weighted RNG at least so that the much needed color would be available in some form. I had some playthroughs where it pigeonholed me into blocking myself off completely because I just couldn't get any of the color I needed.

A great entry!

For a jam game this is amazing! Not the most innovative, but a great deal of fun. Thanks for making the game!

Oh Wow! The game is drop-dead gorgeous for a Jam Game, definitely one of the best ones I've ever come across. Reminds me of the classic MSDOS games on the UI and gameplay-side of things.

I think the minefield was a tad bit too dense and made going slow the more preferable option, but aside from that I really enjoyed the game!

Wow, very rarely do I spend this much time on a Jam game. The mystery was very fun to solve and included some clever steps along the way. Kudos to you on constructing this.

I didn't quite like the amount of red herrings along the way, but all in all this is one of my favorite Jam games of 48, very innovative and fun. And suits the theme perfectly.

Don't take this the wrong way, I really liked the game, art, sound and the enemy design in general, but the game suffered from the fact that the fun in every level was packed right at the beginning of it. The first ~15second of each level was satisfying, but then due to the fact that the stationary worm enemies had a relatively small aggro bubble and a pretty damaging attack, the "most clever" way to defeat them was to stand outside of range and pepper them down without them reacting.

Some of the melee enemies also got stuck very easily, which led to the feeling that you "cheated" to get through the levels. At some point after finishing a level, the game stopped responding. I'm not sure if this was due to the fact that the game ended or it just crashed.

All in all, a fun game with a lot of potential that did not get fully realized in the Jam perspective. Would also benefit from choosing upgrades over static ones.

Aside from the bit erratic nature of the "main theme" (mostly just note choices bugging me as a musician), the game was very enjoyable! I liked the changing aesthetics as you got deeper and the burst of speed was a nice mechanic on otherwise a very simple game.

I think that the main menu was a bit better aesthetically than the game itself and led to even higher expectations, but everything was a-ok! Just think the color choices were better in the menu than the game itself.

It's a shame you didn't get the sound in, I almost managed to hear the beeps and boops of the servers. The idea and execution are great! Battles seemed a tad bit easy, though. Graphics and mood were top-notch. I'd totally play a full version of this.

Elevator to Hell by SpookyTrain 2021-04-26T21:40:04Z

The theme was very prevalent and the gameplay was quite fun! The difficulty ramped up pretty nicely up until the 800m altitude at which point there was a noticable bump (mostly in just higher number of higher health enemies.

Some of the sounds were a bit harsh on my ears, at least, and the game lacked some polish, but all in all it's a decent entry.

F for the operating systems.

A really fun Pico-8 game and not a typical one either! Nice interpretation of the theme (Mafia/Cosa Nostra is a dear subject to me) and fun gameplay for such a simple game.

There could be more options on how to deal with situations and the final fight came a bit suddenly story-wise. Still very very likable and well-executed for a Jam game. Thanks for sharing, Arya!

This was a fun game! I didn't quite reach 5000m, since some of the pesky fishies were difficult to dodge down there, but had a great deal of fun nonetheless.

I loved the art from the get-go and the little tutorial before gameplay made sense. The game felt polished and well-executed to me.

The only thing that bugged me was that in my opinion, each "stage" lasted a tad bit too long and mostly consisted of repeated actions after figuring out the enemy movement. I feel like cutting 1/3 from the time on each depth level would impact the overall enjoyment positively.

Still, one of the better entries I've come across this LD!
