I love it when retro style games manage to look authentically retro. I like this kind of exploration, and kind of wish you were able to do more with it. Unfortunately, it feels really unfinished (especially with that final boss). Otherwise good entry. Props especially on the aesthetic and music.
Hilarious name/game concept. But I think you guys aren't giving yourselves enough credit for the puzzle mechanics. They're pretty decent, if derivative. I got stuck on one of the Sphinx puzzles, which I'm pretty sure is impossible, after analyzing it for over 10 minutes.
Nice work. Wish I could have beaten it.
That art is !@#$ing ridiculously good. Unfortunately the game soft-locked after I died in stage 3. The game just went black and nothing happened. The boss fight designs are amazing, but they either need less health or more complexity to keep them from getting tedious and repetitive. That said, this is the most visually impressive entry I've seen yet.
I feel like I spend way too much time on this... Even though I agree with what other's have said about it being slow, it still interested me enough to keep playing to the end. On that note, I'm not sure there actually is an end... I beat the Dark Wizard, and uncovered every single area I could find, but there always any princess or win state I could find. Did I miss something? I think if you re-balanced it so that it wasn't as slow, and threw in some more interesting combat mechanics, this could be a great game.
Windows Port Plz? :disappointed:
The only file in the windows download is a .jar file, but I don't know how to open that. Can you export it to a stand-alone executable?
I got the same Title screen glitch, unfortunately. The game in a desperate need of a spellcheck, but I appreciate the attempt at making a game with moral decisions that have genuine consequence to the story. Also, making a Compo game with 12 different endings is pretty damn impressive.
One of the best I've played so far. My biggest issue is that the double jump doesn't work the way you'd expect it to in any other game. To jumper as high as you can, you have to hit the jump key as soon as possible after you jump, whereas in any other game, you double jump at the height of your jump to maximize your height. I only figured this out after like 50 failed attempt to get onto the lights in the jazz club. Aside from that, this is a great submission.
I love this one. An interactive/farming version of Conway's Game of Life is such an awesome idea. I was confused at first, but once I got it, the game was fascinating. The only thing I think the game needs is some sort of win state. The game just sorta goes on and on, and it's very difficult to lose unless it's on purpose or you don't know what you're doing. Maybe 'get 100 profit' or 'maintain this amount of life' or something.
The game wouldn't run. I think you forgot to include some game files. Here's the error message I got. "Error: Could not load game data at path '.'. Is the .pck file missing?"
