The music is, for the most part, quite nice, and in theme, I like the retro style graphics as well. The only things that bother me and that would require more fine tuning are the controller. The character is a bit slippery, and his hitbox isn't great, when it comes to platforms, sometimes I would bump against the lower part of platforms, trying to climb on them. That would be my improvement axis, if I were you.
Nice entry! I liked the large and (at least seemingly) non-linear world. Colours are a bit psychedelic some times, which is not necessarily a bad thing :D
Movement could indeed be improved upon. The also always looked into the wrong direction.

I like the old school vibe! Controls could be improved. Music was good. Congrats

Those speccy colors man! :D Super retro gfx, moody music and levels. The controls were just fine. Reminded me of Ghost'n'Goblins. The hitbox felt a bit off at times but not game breaking.
The (spoiler alert!) pink squid boss had no visible attack? I beat him anyway. :>
Well done team!

I like the graphics and the atmosphere a lot, the retro style is thoroughly well done. The music and sound design does a lot to aid that as well.
The controls are a little bit off though. It's hard to put my finger on it, but moving around just didn't feel very good, probably a little bit too slow. It was also a bit jarring how attacking made me unable to move or stopped all my momentum instantly.
I also found a big on my first playthrough where I could jump over the red door in the first part in order to get inside, but it didn't work both ways so I was trapped inside even after killing the boss.
Overall I liked it though, despite all the issues and feeling a bit lost and wandering at some points. With some tweaking to the controls and bug fixing, and maybe some more direction given to the player through hints or story points, I think it could be a pretty good game.

Too be honest I felt I was getting lost the whole time. Apparently I did it good since I actually finished the game! The final boss (the squid I think) didn't do anything to hurt me so I could just stand next to it and shoot until it died.
The colors and art style went really good together, nice job! Music was nice, SFX were a little too loud and harsh, but hey, we can't have it all
Possible improvements: - Some backstory so I know why and what I'm doing - Different enemy types so it becomes a little more challenging. Right now you can easily rush through the world - Improve level design to encourage exploring, there's nothing telling or hinting where to go (but that might be by design) some minor visual guidance would still be nice though. - Enable replay (all items were still unlocked when I try to play again)
Art style definitely has potential, the platformer itself needs some additional attention though. Nice job 72hours!
love the retro style! This game feels like playing an old NES game again :smirk:
The music and sounds, as well as the graphics, emphasize the retro theme very well. I also think it's great that you had the time to create things like keys and bosses.
Overall a very enjoyable experience  great job
Liked the NES style! It really feels like it's a NES game. Everything is perfect for a NES game, I also loved the audio! Sadly the controls are a bit off but nothing too hindering.

Nice retro athmosphere I like the game but it could have been more enjoyable with tougher ennemies.

Well this felt really nice. Overall everything fit together and it played pretty well. I just can't see the theme her ;)

Sound balancing could definitely taken a bit of work and as other people said, I kinda felt like I was lost the whole time but managed to find the end pretty quickly? Not sure if I skipped something but anyways. Simple gameplay but overall it felt pretty good.
Thanks for the game <3

I love it when retro style games manage to look authentically retro. I like this kind of exploration, and kind of wish you were able to do more with it. Unfortunately, it feels really unfinished (especially with that final boss). Otherwise good entry. Props especially on the aesthetic and music.
Loved the style of the game! I found that using a controller made my movement slightly weird. Great job though!

Nice Retro game, it reminds me of spectrum games I played when I was a kid. Well done

I love the retro feel on this. It made me flash back to the old school Castlevania games. I loved the art, although the coloring on the main character became a little hard on the eyes after a while. The one thing I was missing is a feeling of danger from the enemies; they seemed to be there to be walked over rather than pose any threat or challenge. Over all great game, thank you!

Love the retro style, it managed to give me a good dose of nostalgia for old NES games :) thanks for that. My main criticism isn't so much the controls as the difficulty. The whole thing was too easy, every time I fell into a pit it was actually ok, none of the enemies were challenging at all, and the final boss did...nothing? I walked into him just to make sure he was actually an enemy and that I could actually take damage.
I think with some more challenging key/door puzzles and some enemies that were actually a hazard, this could be a really cool old school game. well done :)

Played it through - well done with the style and that you have made distinct areas with different palettes and music! Agree with some of the previous posters that the difficulty is low and the controls needed tuning. More enemy types would have been fun. But overall impressive amount of work, liked it!
Well executed retro aesthetic. I'm really digging the music, especially the green field part. The water section was and unexpected twist. I did find some game breaking collision issues, but this was one of those games I wanted to finish completely.

Very well excecuted game. I really liked it!
2 minor things to fix:
1- The player should be brighter for more contrast. Maybe some kind of light blue? (my eyes hurt )
2- The first miniboss (the yellow guy) tipped over. Freeze his Z rotation :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
But yeah, really nice game. Well done!

Am I wrong in hearing pocket operators in the music?
The music and artsyle was really great. Felt like a Commodore 64 Castlevania :D I had an issue when playing with a controller where pressing left or right would only move to the right but playing with the keyboard worked fine. I loved the variety in the areas too. Great work!
@cymansap you are correct, all hardware soundtrack.
What the what?! I wasn't expecting much when I loaded this up but this is fantastic (not to mention HUGE for 72 hours). Really nice work. The jump was a bit floaty, but that's my only real complaint.
Oh, was this supposed to happen?

This is really good! How did you achieve this in 72 hours?! It feels so good! It's great. Keep going!

Really nice work for 72 hours. It reminds me of Castlevania of 80s so ... I love it! The 8-bit sounds and effects are amazing and they are a good choice for this game. By the way, there are a lot of bugs in jumping, colliders and scenes, understandable to this hard game.

Oh and also, I really appreciate anybody that pointed out bugs. I'm going to see what the policy is on bugfixing and try to get a better build up.

Nice game, really loved the retro feel. The platforming was just right and the music was great. My only complaints are that it was too easy, and that the sound effects for enemies dying was dragged out a bit, a shorter version would be a little less annoying. It was also cool how you used the environment as special hiding places for chests/items. Very solid entry, nice job!
Really good game with an amazing aesthetic. Of course it reminds me these old games on which I wasted my youth. Those colors, those sounds, that feeling - all is so amazing. I retrived some sensations which I felt on my old Sinclair. Thank you for this travel in past. You make my day. Bravo - one of my favorites. I wish you the best, developing further this project ++

Super dig the visuals. Toughen it up and polish it and it will be great! Good job! :)
I must admit I wasn't expecting this game to be so good! It has one of the best old school vibes from perhaps any LD game I can remember, great aesthetics and colors. Really great simplicity and fun levels... although I kept thinking I was going somewhere secret when going downwards. I think the sprite kinda makes the player seem like he's moonwalking (in the air) or facing the other way when not walking. It just looked a little strange to me at first... but hey this was quite a unique game here :D Good luck on expanding it!
Pretty cool, like the 8 bit style, probably need to toughen up the challenge to keep in line with that retro vibe. Also there was a couple of places where I dropped down by accident a long way to platforms I couldn't see below, which felt like a bit strange. In the platform games I have played that try to imitate old classics usually they fall short in level design so if you continue work, please don't be one of them, you have the visuals nailed already. Good job
The game's pretty fun but I can't seem to progress past the pink door. I can't find the key for it and I've tried everything I can think of... (This is proboably just me being dumb but it really ruined the whole experience for me.)

Hey, that's nice entry.
Things I like: - Game atmosphere - Art consistency, animations and color palette (even a blue character ) - Music - Free-to-go-yet-limited level design
Things I doubt: - Casual platformer gameplay (it can be expanded easily, I beleive). A grappling hook, anyone? - No way you can get back upstairs if you fall down in a first dungeon - Ctrl+Space combination closes current tab in Opera browser (and game too) - The final boss is just a static statue - Relation with a "Small world"
Here is my playthrough: https://youtu.be/8mTnRd5VEqI It was fun to play, thank you!

Wow. You've got a lot of polished work here, I'm really impressed. Looks like a Spectrum game on steroids with tight NES gameplay. I really enjoyed it playing it, it felt like a proper game. I did have a bug with my Xbox 360 controller that made my character keep trying to go right, it might be my controller though, it's old and dusty. I still continued playing despite the hindrance so the game must be good! Awesome work!
Oh, and music was great too! But sound effects need turning down a bit.

Really impressive, you did excellent on capturing this retro atmosphere of old games. It's like a mix between Castelvania and Ghost & Goblins. Graphics and music are just top notch. Controls could use some polishing and hitboxes are sometimes weird but that's understandable due to the time limitation. I would like to see this project expanded and good luck with your kickstarter.
I really enjoyed your game, reminded me of my old Commodore days. Sounds, music and feel of the game was right on - it felt like an old game. I did stumble on the water, freaked out a bit that I fell into the water and thought I would die only to find another level, awesome. (And I didn't see the screen shots of the water level to know it was one! :D)
The controller had some issues, felt there were times I couldn't get lined up right to get a jump in and had to fiddle about to get the right spot to jump up to ledge from. Also, some variance in the mobs would be fun, but overall REALLY great work.
Nice. I enjoyed this. I normally don't go in for platformers, because they tend to get pretty brutal in difficulty, but this one used the platformer mechanics for exploration instead of all the challenge, so that made it more enjoyable than most.
I thought I was stuck for a while there before I realized you could go underwater - that was a nice touch! Indeed, the overall aesthetic was quite well done.
There were a couple of places where I felt the hit boxes were too large. Trying to jump up near a platform quite often blocked me when it looked like it shouldn't. I realize this was probably to be more forgiving when you are standing ON a platform, so perhaps a way to reconcile those would be to have a "traveling up" hitbox and a "falling down" hitbox, so that the platforms are forgiving regardless of which direction you are coming at them from.
But really, that was a minor quibble. This was a particularly strong offering, easily one of the top 10 LD38 games I've tried so far.
