I liked it! Thanks for including an emulator.
I found it a bit too easy to just ignore the enemies and rush to pick up the people (player has both a lot of health and a lot of jetpack resource). That might be a good area to improve on
Thanks for the comment @alexanderzone ! My last submission was criticised for being too difficult so I made it less so. Finding a perfect balance is hard haha 😅
It's super cool that you made an actual nes game in 48 hours, and it's a really good-looking one, too. That being said, while the color choice and sprite design is great, the way that everything us utilized and put together makes for overly busy and confusing visuals. I had a lot of trouble identifying what was a hazard, where all the enemy bullets were, and what the different hud elements meant. That being said, this is one of the better entries I've played, and it has a great game feel.
wooooow verrry verrry cool art
Thanks for the feedback @quinn-patrick Very much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed it :)
Great game, good art and gameplay.
I like how you can avoid a lot of the enemies instead of fighting them.
I think the camera could show a little more downwards when you are moving down.
@ristoretto Definitely thinking about looking into more fancy camera operations for sure :)
Also, I found a game breaking bug - The game has been updated and the changes were reflected in the game's description as per rules
*Wow.* It's hard to believe you pulled this off in 48 hours - this is a seriously impressive bit of NES homebrew! These are some of the best visuals I've ever seen on an NES!
Wow, you outdid yourself with this entry! I think you hit a lot closer to a balance of difficulty - I was able to beat it, but definitely had to use a few continues. I didn't ever find myself looking for oxygen, so perhaps that piece was "too easy", but honestly it didn't take away from the gameplay.
Personal opinion, but Ludum Dare games _should_ be somewhat easy. As part of the contest, we're expected to play and rate at least 20 games (and many do more than that) - people don't have super long attention spans, and the goal is to get a quick taste of the game. This is a long way to say, I think you nailed it.
The graphics are your typical brand, and they look stellar. This would look right at home in an arcade from a few decades ago. I did also struggle a bit with the HUD - I actually thought the characters to rescue were lives until I realized it was ticking up.
The sound was simple, but very fitting of the arcade feel you're going for. It could have potentially benefitted from a quick song, or maybe just an intro jingle, but overall it sounds pretty good.
Don't let any of my critical feedback take away from it though - this is a fantastic entry that I really enjoyed. Nicely done!
@cppchriscpp Hey I really appreciate the criticism, I think Ludum Dare is made just for that in order for us to improve on our gamedev skills!
It seems like the HUD is a bit confusing for some peeps, which I'll definitely keep in mind for future projects! Either way, thank you all for your comments so far and it's always great to see you guys playing/appreciating my game
Oh wonderful another NES entry! Wonderful movement and some great sprite design coupled with great gameplay. It makes me sad the wonderful visuals aren't paired with some wonderful tunes but can't have it all :D.
My only criticism for the art is it's great, but it's also a bit too cluttered and not visually distinct for some objects. I actually thought the stalactites were going to damage me and it took me a few seconds to realise the spiky ball floor tiles were spiky balls. I think you could also maybe benefit from having a general fade out for some tiles so it's easier on the eyes. But really, these are all polish/post-jam stuff, you knocked it out the park.
Overall really solid movement, the sound effects were spot on and it has that mega-european NES vibe. Really great stuff and great entry! :D
@2bitcrook Thanks for the feedback! Your submission was super cool as well :D I wish I knew how to make something that doesn't sound like rubbish as far as music goes :P
I definitely see the issue with clutter now that I look at it, I might go a little too far with the graphical details. If I ever go back to it *cough*ludumdaremulticart*cough* I'll definitely touch up on that.
Also kudos for noticing the Euro vibe, I always love it when retro connoisseurs notice ;)
This was super impressive. I played it on an actual NES, which was a really fun thing to be able to do with a LD entry! The gameplay was nice - jetpack physics felt smooth, and there was a nice variety of enemies and levels.
My only complaints would be that some of the tiles were difficult to tell if they would collide with you or hurt you - and the UI was a bit confusing at first.
But honestly those are just nitpicks. Really impressive all around!

wow this is really good. And big respect making a NES game in 48hours. This is so great.
Such a nice game and great artstyle! Making NES games in game jams seems rare so it's nice to see someone taking up the challenge :)

Could be a legit shelf NES game. Better than many commercial games. Good work! :)

How in the world did you do this in 48h ? o_O It's insane. GG. The game is a bit too hard and the graphics are a bit too "all over the place", but it looks and feels like a NES game. Probably one of the best entries for this LD. It's a shame there's no music, that's the only thing missing !
The game looks and feels great, I love vibes of classic NES games which you thoroughly reproduced. Great job.
Aaaaand I think we're good to get a score! Thank you to everyone who played and gave feedback!
So far, the two most important lessons learned in this LD to me are:
1. No matter how good your tiles are, be careful about the placement!
2. The HUD needs a bit more tweaking
Again, thanks everyone for playing, and I'll keep playing/rating some more game for this LD :D

Impressive! Solid movement. Good mood. :)
I wish (and this could just be me not being very good) that I had a little bit of hang time after taking my finger off the jetpak button for maneuverability and more time to fire at baddies.

Ahhhh... I started to make a NES game also, and after 40 min, I reverted back to PICO8.
That said, your game has impressive graphics! ... well mine has _only_ circles
Wow a NES game! A game written in assembly language! Made for this compo! The difficulty is just right. The graphics somehow make me think more of the Amstrad CPC's mode 0 than the NES. The jet pack mechanic has a good feel.
With a music it would be even better but that's still impressive work!

I can't get this to work :/
