Nice graphics and sound effect. The mouse control is too sensitive and hard to aim the enemy even with auto aim(Maybe this is the purpose?)
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD49 → Tanks 'n robots

@kora0h You are right! I chose a better offset for the camera and it's much easier now.
Not quite sure about the theme fit and the cannon could have a bit more "oomph" and pushback, which would make it feel having more power.
Good job in getting a tank and 3D controls in and everything in 48h! Did you even make all 3D models yourself in that time?!
@marc-grabow yes ofcourse :) Wouldn't be a Compo game otherwise. I recorded the whole process. Once the edit is done I will upload a timelapse :)

This is rather impressive... congrats on the entry. I liked that you start out with a good tutorial in an inclosed garage. It's easy to understand..

Thanks
The web version has a pretty serious crash (requiring reboot) when I shoot. I'm on Linux though so that may not be a fault on your end. Had a drive around anyway and rated accordingly. good game
@popertots Dahmm that is pretty serious indeed. Couldn't test it on a linux unfortunately I hope it's an isolated event then. Thanks anyway ;)
It was fun, good to see more 3D compo submissions. The robot death sound was a little annoying, but I managed to beat it. Never really seemed like I was in any danger of dying to be honest.
Wow, very impressive making a 3d game like this for compo! The SFX were a little rough, but the tank handling was challenging in a very realistic way. Loved the cinematics and humor.
Overall, excellent work!
Fun stuff! Kinda wish enemies had projectiles over hitscan to make more use of your mobility. I'd probably drop depth of field for performance reasons
This is great! I had fun blasting those bad things and after a few tries figured out how to strategize and beat the end boss and win! I liked the terrain and graphics, and the enemies, and I liked the controls and shooting. I liked the life refill mechanic too which made it fair. I thought the enemies could be adjusted to make them sometimes miss. I loved it! It will actually be memorable for me. Thank you and nice work!
P.S. I played it on a 2017 macbook pro in chrome and it worked great.
FYI The source link doesn't work as of 815pm CST on Oct 5.
@thatmanrobin @rdcooper Yeah sound isn't my strong suit :D I was lucky that at least my old coffee machine made such a good tank motor sound :D
@zazz0000 thanks for the tip, wasn't aware of that. @fabdynamic Great compliment thanks. Good idea, give it more a star wars clone trooper vibe :D Whoops, I wasn't aware of this, I will fix it right away :)
BEST GAME EVER PLAYED ON COMPO
Fun action game. It’s pretty refreshing to be controlling a tank, the controls are intuitive, the goal is clear and the whole setting is thematically accurate. Nice job !
Strengths : - A 3D action game, well above LD standards in terms of polish - Cool intro/outro movies - Fun to play, easy to finish
Possible improvements - The enemies might do too little damage
Congrats !
@njitnelav haha thanks mate! @jlv Glad you liked it. I actually did that a little on purpose as there was no real time to test and I preferred everybody can easily finish my game then all get stuck in the beginning. Maybe a difficulty system would have been nice. I will keep that in mind ;)
This is cool! Love the movie intros, especially the ending as it tied the game off nicely with the red->green transition, made it feel complete.
Compo too? That's crazy. Yes the controls could be a little tighter, and clearer where projectiles land etc. instead of raycast bullets, but it was still really fun and clear what to do. I liked the tutorial mapped to right mouse button and the layout of the level, with it directing players to the base (which was also shown in the intro, so that made me recognize it). The difficulty was at the right level as I was able to complete it without feeling frustrated or bored.
Great job.
thanks @eldogg A little film story always helps with the emersion. And they are fun to make :D
That's an impressive intro & outro you have there! For the game as a whole: While I'm a bit less inclined to be impressed by something that is 'just' 3D these days, you've put in the artwork and time to make it work in a compo-timeframe, which is also impressive.
I'm sad to say that (after the initial seconds when I rolled off a hill and I managed to right the tank up again) I found the game(play) itself to be a bit tedious? Because there are about 2 things that can happen:
- You take aim from far away (if you're lucky, you don't even have to wriggle your mouse cursor for the green target but can just shoot), then take them down one by one as sitting ducks. - At some point the ones left over are too far away and you need to advance, and you occasionally meet an AI that is heading for you. Then (due to the slowness of your tank) it will mostly turn into an 'I shoot then they shoot' then repeat ad-infinitum until the opponent is dead (it won't be you since health is plentiful). Unless there's trees, but that just gives you even more advantage.
Which also, I suppose, means that the controls are intuitive! Also it can't have been _that_ tedious, since I was never outright bored or anything.
Just a note: While it _is_ allowed to fix ('certain') bugs after the end. You're at the _very_ least also supposed to make a list of the things you changed after, per [the rules](/events/ludum-dare/rules) > Certain Bug Fixes are allowed. You can’t add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline. **You are asked to highlight the changes you make in your submission (a short change log).**
Some smaller remarks: I'd have liked a bit of music. Couple of typo's: Luckely -> Luckily, Stabelize -> Stabilize.
@remco You are right I will add the changes I made afterwards to the page. Thanks for the feedback.
I really enjoyed driving your armored car! It seems to me that the slip after braking is too large and strong. Perhaps if he stopped a little more abruptly, it would be better 😊
Very cool Compo Game!
@dogez thanks!
Congrats ! i love the terminator AI style :D ! I think you got already many feedback ;), mine was to increase the diffulty (and the sound a bit lower when robot dies), GG for the scenario and your graphics ! :v:
@castoor thanks for the feedback. Once I've got some time again I will implement a easy/medium/hard mode. And once the game voting is over record some better sounds for the robots. I don't like them as well :/
