Whew, that got violent. 😈 Fighter jets will always annihilate mere soldiers.
I'm not a fan of Civilization, but I loved this! The gameplay feel of it just feels so nice. My only request would be to make it so I can choose who to pick on (unless I'm missing something and you can already do that), it got kind of hard to slaughter innocent lives when those innocent lives also turned guilty of murder and assembled fighter jets to match my maximum-size fleet. Kind of felt like conflicts were going nowhere when each country had the exact same things.

@kr4ft3r great to see you here! I'll play this game later, looks like something I need my absolute attention for.
It's a pretty unique game, and I like the graphics and sound choices. Despite it being unique it's also very simple to learn. It has a pretty intricate system as well, which is impressive given the small timespan for development. Nice job.

Very rarely seen such a game in a gamejam, and the relation to the theme is perfect haha

It's amazing you can do all this in a jam, but cavemen are the best part. JK, well done
Never seen a grand strategy in a game jam. I didn't get very far in, I kept going to war with everyone and losing all my cavemen, then they got real soldiers and my giant army was no match. Overall, a really neat take on the theme.
This is an excellent game! I had a lot of fun with it. Its also pretty funny, imagining having fighter jets in the 1200's c.e.. It would be helpful to have an idea of where the other nations are in relation to victory - maybe an espionage option that will give you a nations stats for that turn. But overall, great job!

Theme is playing with fire a bit but you know that ("born from rocks"?). This is an amazing achievement — so ambitious and it is both fun and complete (feels that way anyhow). You should be proud.
This was great, really had fun with this one. Gameplay is pretty simple but enjoyable, graphics work well, and the theme was perfect.

This was super fun, well done! I struggle to find anything I would suggest doing differently on this one. The couple of minor points I could find:
- Add a small note about what "fortify defenses" does. - Add "conflict history" lines between nations that attacked each other so that I can learn over time who tends to attack who.
Fighter jets though

Make big armies, destroy other's economy and improve economy rapidly seems like the easiest way to win. Rebels could've played a bigger role if only they spawned with the current tech of the nation and armed with more units compared to the current amount. Other than that seems good enough for a strategic game made in 3 days, great job man

Bosnia and Herzegowina had Fighter jets, while I was still using Musketeers :D. Funny and interesting entry. I am living in the EU as well, so I quite understand the unstable part of your game. Hope you guys are doing well though. Overall great game!
Wow this is a really cool strategy game! this is like civ but simpler and for me harder. I didnt do very good but it was really cool. I loved the music. Before I figured out what was going on I thought I was a different country who was doing great, then after a while it was clear they werent doing my commands and I investigated. d'oh!
@fre conflict history lines is a great idea
Love the intro track! Great interpretation of the theme; both in terms of narrative but also in terms of gameplay. Gameplay is simple, but surprisingly deep.

Love your game, although I'm not very good at strategy games ^^" It's very unique and I can see that a lot of work an thought has been put in to it. After a view tries I finaly found out a stretagy that got me Mig-29's :D
The only point of feedback I have for you: sometimes I clicked "fortify defenses", but I could not really see what happened.
It is a great game, I have not seen a strategygame like this in Ludum Dare before. The graphics and soundeffects are fitting nicely together. Keep up the great work!

Thank you all for taking time to play and give kind feedback!
@thedude3600 @fre @fabdynamic Yes showing relations is one of those things that could have been implemented in 10 minutes but you know how it is when you are in rush to publish and keep it as stable as possible. Here is a little secret: opening the developer console and hovering over a faction will show you mutual relations with factions that are currently bordering it.
@wouter52 @fre Fortify defenses is sort of a "skip turn" option which also gives +1 to rolls when defending that turn. Its main purpose is to not spend money (when stocking up to upgrade army) as all other options cost money.
@alex-aspa I got over 10 years of experience in JavaScript and coding in general, but still I run into entries that amaze me with how much has been done. By keeping the code simple yet modular (the code base is 14 classes) you can achieve complex-looking things in a short amount of time, depending on how much the project motivates you (and luck). It's all about thinking in terms of how components communicate with each other, and not being afraid to write some garbage code to get it done faster, while constantly testing so the thing doesn't fall apart.

Very fun and addicting.
Great take on the theme, and such well-crafted gameplay. Its complex enough to be thought-provoking but simple enough that I don't lose interest early on. I really wish I could have spent that 99999DEM on space lasers though :D It would also be nice if the player country name was highlighted in the history because I tend to stop paying attention to it.

It was fun figuring out the systems of the game and how they interacted. It took me a bit to understand that I could only target nations based on public opinion. I must not have noticed that the win condition was a certain income level- I kinda assumed that as Crotia, I could eventually attack Kosovo (my main rival), but that time never came. Cool idea for a game- I liked the explosion noises and the fact that I could take turns very rapidly if I so wanted.

> Republic of Serbian Krajina achieves income of 400 DEM and joins the EU!
Honestly, I didn't fully grasp what the winning conditions are. Also, you can only attack your neighbours, right? In my game, there were two or three with big militaries stomping everyone else. And we could not really attack each other, I think. The balance and game mechanic could improve a bit in that regard.
Still, the pace of the game was very nice and I enjoyed the text only history log. I also enjoyed the humour, even though I probably didn't get half of the jokes.
Solid entry!

Where can I find the music from the splash screen ? How is it called?
Aha! Found it: `Milomir Martic - Bando mudzahedinska`
wow, too much for me to take in and understand - but i like the approach to the theme!
very good strategy game
Great take on the theme! Also really impressive strategy game to put together in a weekend. Joining the EU as Serbia in 1280AD is a bit funny though, they truly were ahead of their time. I did notice that completely destroying the economy of a losing country might be a bit too punative though, maybe just lose a few levels of it in order to preserve long term balance?
As a Serbian man i find this Hilarious, i didnt see much difference from playing as any side apart from what allies you have or dont have. The main menu theme is PERFECT, is that an original piece or is it just the begining of an actual song? because its incredebly authentic. As a jam game, this is awesome. I didnt see what was the purpose of seperatism, i guess thats how republica srpska, Serbian Krajina and kosovo are made. Also if youre going to include the factions above, you should have included herceg bosna for the croats. At the begining it was fun and i had to do SOME strategy, but by the end i was just pressing wage war. the game has some potential if it was made into a real game and required alot of strategy. Balkanization-2 I say
It's not a war crime if you had fun.
Feels like this is missing some key components to really polish it off. Attack/defense mechanics also feel a bit arbitrary.
There's just enough meat to make it fun though, and that's what matters. I didn't initially notice the victory condition you mentioned on your page, so I was wondering why my full rack of MiGs weren't doing anything.
Neat little entry. It'd be interesting to see this fleshed out a bit more.
Nice work!
That was dark. Well done. Screen-Shot-2021-10-18-at-10.25.19-PM.jpg And yeah, I was morbidly curious what the next military tech would be.

BRILLIANT. THE IDEA IS AMAZING, IT WAS FUN, FUCKING KOSOVO JE SERBIA AND 'WINNING' AS JOING TO EU. 10/10 XDD
Well I think the mechanics are very good, I would like to see more graphic work of art in this game. Good job!
Very impressive and ambitious entry. You have a good foundation for a full strategy game, and there's obviously a lot more you could have added if you had more time. It's almost perfect as a jam game though because its clear you decided to spend time polishing the few mechanics that made it in instead of trying to cram in as much as possible before the deadline. Great work
