Nice, 11 - 9 was my end score
This is great! I love the visuals in this, super atmospheric. Great music too, fits the game very well. I think I ended up with 9:5 as my score :)
Very atmospheric and spooky, the music and sfx are very well done and fitting. The only thing a bit weird was the running - it sometimes wouldn't trigger. Is there a hidden stamina system? Other than that, great spin on the theme, well done!
Thank you so much for your nice comments and feedback! @fabian-denter: There is indeed a stamina system, and it is displayed very subtly, through the circle at the bottom of the screen. It's on my list to give a bit more player feedback about this, but there wasn't enough time, so at the moment it is almost hidden :)
Very nice game! The graphics were really awesome, and together with the audio created an incredible mood! I also loved your take on the theme, where the enemies are the ones harvesting. While the audio cue when a devourer was nearby was very good, it felt a bit quiet - on my first run, by the time I noticed it it was too late. The devourers in general had a bit unpredictable AI - sometimes they would chase me across great distanced, barely slowing down to eat souls in their path, while other times they'd just stand around for like half a minute doing nothing. The souls devoured indicator felt a bit weird too, as most of the souls were devoured off-screen, where I had no chance of saving them, nor any idea where they even were. For my score, my "best rate" run was 7:0, and most souls saved was 50:26 (although I felt like I could probably go on indefinitely there - the game is quite easy if you just lure the devourers towards clusters of souls). Overall, great entry!
I got to 33 souls saved and 27 souls devoured :D
As usual for you, the game was extremely atmospheric! I loved the setting of a dark scary forest, with lit up spirits. Gameplay wise it also meant that it was very clear where to go next, and that I did not spend a lot of time just roaming around. The music and sound effects fit super well, and really sold the atmosphere for me. The sensitivity slider was also a great help, because usually 3D games have way too high sensitivity for me (this one did as well on the 1.0 setting :P)
The gameplay got a little repetitive after I kept playing though. In the beginning the red spirits were very scary and I was on my toes all the time. However, after playing for a bit they lost their scariness a bit, as I could simply run away from them. Similar to Frogman I also could have continued playing after my 33:27 if I wanted to. Perhaps this could have been resolved by making the game have a finite duration? I.e., just save a finite amount of souls and then win? Or of course having a more rapid difficulty scaling, but that might require more work I guess :)
Anyway, great submission to the jam! Especially considering the short time you spent on it. I enjoyed it a lot :D
Loved the vibe of this game -very well done! The lighting really made the darkness feel heavy and the graphics were really good! -great use of the theme too! Excellent work! :D
I wish I could give 6/5 for mood. This is really cool. I got 28/22 :)
68:46 :D
Totally agree with the other commenters - fantastic atmosphere/mood in the game. The music and audio was great too. It was very tense to play, and a learning experience figuring out what was going on. The sound of the devourers getting nearer to you was very tense, especially after you had already used up all of your sprint to save another soul.
Subtle choice, but I like the decision to not leave the score on the screen all of the time, and instead just pulse it - the subtle UI really added to the atmosphere. The controls also were very smooth.
Only thing I could find to suggest as an improvement is it would be nice if the edges of the level weren't just a box and were a bit more natural. But overall it's a fantastic entry - nice job!
Great concept and excellent atmosphere, love the overall vibe. Great use of audio cues as well. Gameplay felt a little bit simple at first, though once I realized I could play a little bit riskier to potentially save more souls things got a bit more interesting. Before that it just sort of felt like the devourers and I were just sort of doing our own thing :P My score was 56/37. Great work!
the vibe+graphics+audio is top tier but movement feels bad.
Oh! great entry! I really loved the GFX, and game feel. 5/5 for the mood.
Awesome atmosphere and mood!
Gameplay was quite intuitive and the sound really sold the mood. I particularly liked the audio cues when focusing on the souls and the impending sound of the Devourer coming closer. Well done!
Loved the atmosphere! Great game! Nicely done :)
9 saved, 7 devoured (and then an 8th devoured: me lol). This was interesting, and ***REALLY*** atmospheric. I was slightly anxious at first with the setting and then as it got darker in areas it got me even more... until I saw the devourer and was like OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!
Good job with this game! :D
Love the overall atomsphere and the visual. Pretty cool game. Well done.
Impressive game for a compo, the graphics and the sound are perfectly fitting, and the gameplay feels prefectly balanced, never frustrating but always challenging.
Very good entry !
Love the visuals, sounds and overall mood
