Hi! Wow this game is so good. I love it when I find gems like this: a perfect sized super polished jam game with enormous potential for being something bigger and more. * I finished all 10 laps but not before losing a few times. * I had to luck out and let everyone else wreck before I could complete 8/10 of the laps lol. * the controls and driving physics for this kind of game are absolutely perfect. * I had more fun playing on my mechanical keyboard than on my mac laptop keyboard because of the travel and feel of the keys and how hard I could press so that my brain can imagine that pushing hard is making me turn faster * I can imagine this game being fleshed out to be a party game competitor to that new game `Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout`
Anyway I really enjoyed myself thank you so much.
I have MacOS Catalina and lots of apps and games have been having problems running and this one works great with these two steps which only take a few seconds: 1. In a terminal `chmod +x TrackDay_1_0_Mac.app/Contents/MacOS/*` 2. Right click and select open from the menu then select open.
The first step fixes the generic error "This app cannot be opened" it just needs some inner files to be executable that aren't by default thats all. The second step gets around the gatekeeper that keeps the mac from running random executables downloaded from the internet.
After that it worked perfectly and is a ton of fun. Great work and thank you! TrackDay_1_0_Mac Screen Shot 2020-10-04 at 8.18.28 PM copy.png
This is a great one! The vehicle handles as expected, aside from no reverse (Shouldn't be reversing anyway!). The skid marks, springy barrier poles, and UI stingers feel very nice. Well done!
@fabdynamic Ah, thanks a lot for your feedback and the tips for getting it running on Mac, I really appreciate it. In your screenshot it looks like there are no skidmarks, was that from the Mac build? It's a shame if so, that's definitely my favorite feature! Glad you enjoyed it!
@irwatts Thank you! I agree, reversing is for losers!
Fun little game! It becomes a lot easier once all the other cars are gone!

very nice and entertaining, How is the AI implemented? :D fun to play, really solid entry.
50s :)

I love this game!
False start --> infraction counter +1
Does it invalidate the lap? No why should it xD
1.5 laps done timer still on 0s
This game is just lots of fun!
Thanks @tomeks! 1:16 is a very respectable time! :D
The AI is made by having them naively travel to the next waypoint. There are 8 waypoints around the track and "gates" at the waypoints that both the AI and player need to through to complete a GOOD LAP. You can notice when the AI suddenly goes the wrong way around the track, it's because they went past a waypoint but missed the gate, so their target waypoint is not updated to the next one.
The gates are also there for the player. If the player crosses the line but not all the gates were crossed, it is an INVALID LAP.
Haha, thanks a lot @ausstein! 50s!!! You are the current record holder! Glad you enjoy it!
Theoretically, I would think the absolute quickest it can be done is around 45s-47s or so.
Hey! I love the idea. The AI felt great and somehow alive. Too bad that the tire tracks didn't show up on WebGL. Maybe you should work on the render for next time. It misses an ambiance. Great work anyway
@remzo I have to disagree I still had many inperfections in my run. I think sub 40 is possible :)
@remzo thanks for explanation, very nice !
@remzo You asked whether the mac version has skid marks and no it looks like it doesnt. Let me know if I can help debug that.
It wasn't me, it was the other cars doing the infractions! :joy:
Thanks @fabdynamic but no worries. I wouldn't know what it could be seeing as it should literally be identical unless maybe the specific (very simple) skid shader wasn't included during the build for some reason. First place I would start would be to check if it runs with skids in the editor on a Mac.
Friend of mine just managed 44 seconds! :open_mouth: Crazyyyyy. This is now the time to beat. I can't manage < 50s!
@ausstein You've been dethroned! He also thinks a sub 40s would be possible though.

@remzo I'm glad I tried this
1. The skidmarks dont show in the editor either but 2. I'm really impressed with this Unity Project. Its impeccably well organized and inspires me to organize my code better in future projects. 3. Somehow there are no warnings ... as much as I shouldn't abide warnings in my projects it seems like they always crop up anyway either due to my carelessness or something I can't explain or dont understand. Its notable to me that there are none here :) UPDATE: I realized later that there are a few harmless warnings when you first load it but thats still relatively very clean.
You've made this out of nothing without bloat or confusion and thats really cool.
Wow, great game. It is utter chaos in the begining but gets easier when the competitiors are out of the game =)
Great game! It would be better if there would be less cars or a bigger map though. I did 10 laps with 13 infractions in 2 min, I went slow cuz i dont want the idiot drivers to bump into me, and also its more controlable.
Wow, how are people already so good at this game? My best time was 2 and a half minutes, lol. This game slaps. I think the only thing that was a little more frustrating than fun is that the car can get lost off screen. But everything else is perfect.
@remzo OMG I got it! I pulled the same source up on windows and couldn't find anything different in code, console, breakpoints or anything so I suspected it might be in the build settings and it worked!
Change this in project settings and Skidmarks show up in the mac build.

Caveats: 1. I haven't tried changing that setting on windows and building for mac but I believe it will work. I have only tried building for mac on mac. 2. I suspect (but haven't tested) that unity 2020 might have fixed this - it might be a bug with unity 2019 beta metal support for mac or something (crossing fingers) 3. I have a build I can send if that would be helpful 4. If you want to make a new build for mac and want me to test it out I'd be happy to.
@remzo I tried for a while, but this is just too random. For a Highscore, basically you need to hope that the other cars crash in the very beginning so you can drive tight laps undisturbed to the end.
I mangaged to get to more 50s and one 54s with two invalid loops.
Also I dont really understand when a loop is counted invalid. Sometimes i clearly stay on the track and it counts as invalid and sometimes I crash like half the yellow things in the middle and it still counts as good
Very cool game! I am bad at it but it looks really cool and runs smooth! Well done!
Wow, thanks so much @fabdynamic! I've made a new build for Mac with the updated setting and uploaded as v1.01, hopefully it works! I also really appreciate your kind words about the Unity Project. It could definitely be better to me (it's a jam after all!) but I'm glad you find it helpful!
@henrik-ganard Thanks! Sometimes it's easier to even help the other cars to get out of the game! ;)
@beavergames Thanks for playing! *Only* 13 INFRACTIONS is actually quite good!
@ruthiepee I know right? It took me almost all weekend to get decent and now I can't even come close. Getting off screen is a little annoying, yeah. There's a disqualification zone if you go too far but sometimes you can just guess the direction and make it back. Thanks for playing and reviewing!
@ausstein yeah, you need to get really lucky with the other cars. I can't even improve on my 53s
As for the invalid laps, there are 8 invisible gates placed around the track that are a bit smaller in width than the track itself. If you cross the line without having gone through all 8 in order, it is marked invalid and started over. I think there's definitely a gate on the left side of the track that's just a bit too narrow and easy to miss if you ride down the edge. Ah well
@remzo Mac version 1.01 works great now with Skidmarks and everything! I bet it was jarring having spent so long to get skidmarks working and then see my original screenshot with no skidmarks haha. It was so fun I didnt even notice. I'm glad you got it working.

If you ain't first you're last! Very fun game, wish I didn't get flagged for so many reckless driving infractions when I'm the one getting hit, but once the NPC cars crash out it's smooth sailing from there!
Wow that was extremely difficult! (or I'm just terrible). Eventually, all of the AI cars except for one drove off the track and never returned, but that ahole was doing perfect laps one after the other, and making me insecure about my driving skills.
This game was great, simple, and fun. I really liked the wobbly posts. You should try adding some more sound effects too, at least engine noises if not collisions.
Nice job with this one!
That was surprisingy hard, but it was really fun though maybe it's because I don't play many racing games that controls were a bit hard to get used to
Very cool entry! I could finish it because the other cars were stuck leaving a clear way :sunglasses: The wobbly things are a small addition but add a lot.
Now my goal is to finish under one minute.
That timer cracked me up. Good work! Some wacky music could add a lot to the MOOD :P
Love the carnage of all the cars at the beginning and the particle effects/tire trails. Great job.
@gironimo4 Thanks! Maybe they also get an infraction, who knows?
@ale Glad you liked it! Don't worry, it seems I'm not too good at it either... Not the best at my own game any more!
@sininenblue Thanks! Happy you still enjoyed it!
@qui Under 1 min is a real challenge, haha. Did you manage it?
@kurt-roembke Thanks! The timer is one of my favourite parts for sure. Music would've been great but I struggled so much with just the small amount of SFX that are already in. Totally agree though!
@eldogg Thank you! The chaos is definitely part of the fun! But it's also really annoying if you try to go for the best times haha
Probably would have been a good idea to make the other cars invulnerable because in 8 out of my 10 laps I was alone.
@lakrits Thanks for playing! You must have been very (un)lucky.
There's a little bit of variation in how much impact it takes to take them out so each attempt is different. When trying to go for the fastest time you actually want them to get out of the way as soon as possible.
This is so much fun to play. The drifty controls and AI players make it a delight. Really great job on this one! :D
Fun and addictive! Had great time playing it. Would be cool to see it as full-multiplayer mayhem. :D
After a while all of the other cars got knocked off the track and disappeared and it became a lot easier to register good times :D I certainly didn't get less than 20 infractions though :P Nice entry!
Fun game, easy to pick up :) I miss a restart button and maybe some cheering crowd or background noice. Otherwise a good entry!
This plays even better with some Tokyo Drift soundtrack ! This was fun :)
@dunderroffe Thanks for playing! You can restart any time with 'R' but the prompt for it comes up after the game "ends".
IT'S BABY NASCAR
Okay, this is probably my favorite game of this jam so far.
The single-screen is charming, the chaotic nature of so many cars in a small space becomes pretty fun after a couple plays. Graphics are good. Theme is perfectly captured in a not-to-complex way.
My criticisms are, the startup timer is slow and frustrating. There could be a wall to make sure players don't go way too far off-screen. The inability to back up makes navigating out of pileups pretty tedious.
But overall really good. Again, my favorite so far.
Just thought of another suggestion: When the player is off-screen, use the GUI to place an arrow on the edge of the screen. The arrow should be placed on the edge closest to the car, so the player know approximately where they are, and should be pointing the same direction as the car, so the player can figure out if they're driving the right direction to return to the screen. I think this would make it more fair.
Yaaay this is so much fun!
The controls felt weird at first, especially due to a lack of engine sound to let you know you are accelerating I guess, and the collision felt a bit unfair. But then I played more, learned to accept it, and had a lot of fun! The turning point in all races is when everyone starts crashing into one another, and this part is so much fun.
I did 0:50 something with 9 mistakes, and over 1 minute with 6 mistakes.
Great job on this game it works very well 💕
Hah a lot of fun! Would love to hear some RIPE engine sounds there and maybe a multiplayer eventually, but as a Jam entry - excellent job!
@shaolin-dave Glad you enjoy it, thanks for the kind words! You probably encountered it but there is a disqualification zone if you go too far from the track - maybe it's a bit too far out. Good suggestions about the arrow, I think something simple like that would definitely help.
@doot Thanks! Yeah, sounds is definitely an area I lack expertise in so it's really the bare minimum here (maybe even less than that!). 0:50 is a very good run! Nice one!
@mackandrius Thanks for playing! I really struggled with the sound for sure. Maybe next time I will just record the sounds I need by performing it myself with my mouth.
Smashing into all of the other cars is fantastic. I also immediately had to check out the skid mark code just because of how right it felt. Really well done, and fun entry!
nice little entry, good job!
