Pretty cool game, bro. Congratulations.

fabernull 2021-10-04 00:42

I love this interpretation of the theme. The puzzles are really clever as well. Great work

slimmerburger 2021-10-04 00:53

Really cool idea, I absolutely love the art, it's simple but it just looks really cool. Especially the unstable blocks!

tattomoosa 2021-10-04 01:05

Very cool interpretation! Nice puzzle mechanics, very good vibes.

I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get any secret messages after going back to the beginning using the machine -- I thought for sure the game was implying there would be something there by making that journey possible with the "background" unstable realities.

pavocado 2021-10-04 01:09

@tattomoosa Ahhh that *was* the plan! That's why every room has the ability to go back through it. Ran out of time though, but thank you for noticing, and for the kind words!

elastic 2021-10-04 08:59

Cool game, I love the unstable art! :)

owlycode 2021-10-04 12:42

I'm amazed by those kind of games. Elaborating puzzles that cool is dark magic to me. It's impressive all the stuff you packed in 48 hours. Some audio would have been the cherry on the cake. Have you considered using stuff like sfxr or bfxr?

cabjhegas 2021-10-04 16:11

Man! I loved how the game looks! The puzzles was really well designed. The ones that need to have the perfect timing to jump was the best

jonah-srg 2021-10-04 19:24

The flickering shaky objects really help establish the unstable theme. I appreciate that the early part of the game very clearly tutorializes how the light and objects work, it's really thorough and well done. Puzzles are clever. Great job.

froissant 2021-10-04 21:55

Loved the minimalist art! Overall concept is simple but fun  I had a few issues with the character seemingly getting stuck, but no game breaking bugs. Puzzle games are the best, I wish I had the talent to design them.

jerem-watts 2021-10-05 00:45

"The world seems more stable now..." Nice

I liked the art of the unstable platforms! Now for some harsh words.

If it wasn't a compo but instead a Jam I would suggest setting up base code for momentum and gravity, the game was really slow for me personally.

X instead of E for interaction always boils my balls too.

Otherwise I'm really impressed with how many screens there were for only having made this game in 48 hours!

pavocado 2021-10-05 00:58

@jerem-watts Thank you for your kind words and feedback. I actually started off the core platformer with velocity and momentum, but it didn't feel right. It felt like I was skating on ice xD

I didn't feel like there was enough screens though! My target was 30, but I only got 24 haha

grumpy-gecko 2021-10-05 03:41

Loved the mood that this game gives off and great puzzle design! The in game explanations/ mechanic introductions were great as well.

timeload 2021-10-05 07:08

Fun game :) simple but enough to keep me entertained. Love the graphics too, the shifting blocks is really cool

nshbae 2021-10-05 09:14

Best game played on this jam. Great understanding of the theme 'unstable' and clever map design with charming ideas.

Only thing i want is more levels and refined artwork!

louiejams 2021-10-05 10:20

Quite a few clever puzzles in there for such a short amount of time worked! The art is simplistic but appealing and I enjoyed the limited pallette, great entry!

skahd 2021-10-05 10:26

cool game idea, really fun

naymsayk 2021-10-05 15:14

Good use of the theme in your puzzle platformer I like that it was more about timing that randomness. Kept a certain amount of autonomy as everything was destabilising all around me.

I like the use of the minimalist graphics (although those vibrating blocks betray the pixel-iness of your game)

flywolfe 2021-10-05 15:24

Cool puzzles and a neat mechanic. Especially loved the shaking animation of the unstable blocks, it really added to the atmosphere. It was really fun and felt great!

drsmey 2021-10-05 17:21

Very cool concept, good consistent limited art style and just overall super clean. I only felt that the game barely started, there were a lot of concepts introduced in a tutorial fashion but then it was already over. Also some of the rooms had a bit too much waiting and less creativity.

But this could be a nice base to built on, the gameplay works well already, so a couple more challenging levels could improve this a lot.

eveenova 2021-10-06 06:28

Great idea, enjoyed figuring it out start to finish! could definitely be taken some interesting places to keep playing with the unstable reality concept

odrez 2021-10-06 09:40

Wow, this is incredibly strong in its core idea and design.

I like the symbols and overall style it goes for a lot. And I can see the mechanics as a solid base for any environment - it makes sense as a 2D black&white platformer, but could also be a 3D puzzle game or a puzzle dungeon in a top-down rpg. It's just a fun mechanic to play around with!

What I missed was animation on the character and a bit of eye candy in general - not that there wasn't, the symbols and instable cubes did an amazing job - but it made me notice things like the character and lack of environment more.

Showing later levels you can't jump to yet is pretty fun too - it creates a metroidvania vibe foreshadowing things yet to come.

I guess games like these need a lot of testing for levels to really be on point, so I'm ok with some of the puzzles feeling a bit tedious with their waiting periods. It's impossible to finetune puzzle games in one weekend. But the ones you made were creative and showed your imagination.

Cool entry! And definitely a prototype worth exploring further.

pavocado 2021-10-06 11:14

@odrez that's some very nice feedback, thank you. There's so much more I'd love to do with it, but you're right, 48 hours isn't enough to fine-tune puzzles :)

betamorfosis 2021-10-06 16:59

Really polished game. The game was really enjoyable. Maybe with tiny sounds and music would have added to the mood, but other than that really enjoyed it.

deprecat 2021-10-06 19:02

This game feels like it has an amazing level of polish and level design considerations for the time that you had, I'm super impressed!

rosymaple 2021-10-07 02:47

Really amazing game, it feels very polished and ready to go, my only real feedback is that I think adding some cheat frames to the jump would make some of the more precise platforming feel better, and having a way to shut off reality stabilization feels like something you should be able to do rather then waiting until the timer runs out

ogelgames 2021-10-07 07:15

Amazing game, has some real potential to become a full game, the concept is really unique and looks and plays great. I would really like to see a post-jam version of this!

professir 2021-10-07 17:38

Really nice platformer! Your character looks like the character in my game :joy:

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and played through to the end. Interesting mechanic & I'm glad you had the idea to give a stabilizing device to the player. I could definitely see this game get fleshed out into a larger experience. Really nice work

pdotjpg 2021-10-07 22:16

Ha, I was scrolling through the list of games, and yours caught my eye because our games have kind of a similar aesthetic.

Really cool mechanic! I encourage you to flesh it out into a larger game. Still, this is surprisingly long and well explored for a compo game. The visuals are really pretty, so it's a shame about no audio to create a really strong atmosphere. Overall, very good work.

glaciereclipse 2021-10-08 16:04

Very interesting entry, the only puzzle that took me a bit of time to solve is the one where you have the ceiling moving generator. Other than that I felt like the difficulty was fine and I really enjoyed the art and the gameplay elements. Felt very unique, solid entry!

minibobbo 2021-10-09 03:12

Cool stuff. I liked the interactions of some of the later levels between the different elements that you had been learning along the way. I think that after you receive the device though the game gets simpler and much more straightforward. I wish the device had some additional things you could do, like turn it off again with shift while preserving the existing charge. I think you could just also have the device automatically recharge after a second or two even while the player is moving. There is never any danger to just stopping, so no reason to make the player do it.

This worked well and the shaking blocks really added to that unstable feeling. Nice work!

skyward4d 2021-10-09 12:24

Really nice little platformer. I enjoyed the puzzles, and the devices were intuitive and interesting so it was a fun experience. At one point I got above the map, and was convinced there would be an easter egg because it felt like that kind of game. Like one where there's something hidden away somewhere for the astute player. I think to create that kind of atmosphere, even without the help of audio is an impressive feat. I saw in a previous comment you said you initially planned to add secrets back at the start of the game, so it sounds like that's exactly the vibe you were going for. Awesome job.

pavocado 2021-10-09 12:55

@minibobbo and @skyward4d Ah thank you both so much for your compliments and your feedback! There was a lot more planned with the device, but of course I was very limited with compo time restraints. Every level has a way of backtracking through it though, so once you had the device, you'd have to return to the start but solve puzzles in a different way.

The original plan was to make the device toggle by pressing shift, but I found you could abuse it and preserve all the power by only toggling the key for a split-second. The other plan was to make it recharge when in the presence of a stabilizer, which probably would have worked, but I thought of that too late!

I'm not a fan of waiting as a gameplay element either, but it seemed the simplest, most harmless solution at the time :D

fabdynamic 2021-10-12 02:18

Ooh this is great! the platformer controls are simple but perfect and this is an achievable game which is challenging and interesting and keeps your attention but doesn't draw it all out or anything. It was really great. Thank you and nice work!

dzejpi 2021-10-14 12:27

One of the best entries for me. It is incredible how well polished this game is. The game mechanics are awesome and super fun. Levels are challenging just right. Great explanation of how to play this game. And it is very fair thanks to checkpoints. It looks amazing and feels satisfying to play! This is super well made and I think you should make a full game out of this after LD rating ends!
