Nice play on words. Game isn't running on my device so I can't rate it but the screenshots look pretty great, abstract but fun.

devparty 2021-10-04 00:09

Fun game! Its just a little to easy and I'm not sure how it fits the theme.

c64cosmin 2021-10-04 00:13

So liminal and abstract, one word can describe this game : satisfying! Unfortunately only the last level felt like it fit the theme, All other first levels I could just jump over the blocks and get to the finish. The last level the mountain of block that helped me get up was unstable, so I had to pay attention. Very beautiful and satisfying to watch and play, I think this could turn into a nice mobile game.

fabdynamic 2021-10-04 00:30

@devparty I think you are right about it being a little too easy, at least for some people. The stacks of blocks are unstable physics objects so the idea was that it would be difficult to jump from one to the other but that became unclear and like @c64cosmin mentioned many of the levels could be just jumped over to get to the finish, but finally on the last level the mountain was unstable. I will keep all of this excellent feedback in mind for Episode 2 and I already have several levels designed in my head! There is a timer and highscore system so that players may attempt to find faster ways of beating the levels than they did before, even if they found it easy to get through it once, but that's not made clear until the first loop is over. I think I will change the description to point this out (done). Thank you both for playing the game and taking the time to provide feedback and encouragement!

@dobryn Thanks! Sorry that it doesn't run on that device. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment anyway and let me know that you tried. :)

alan001 2021-10-04 01:42

The game is pretty cool and fun (Atleast for me) idea is not that unique and the lighting is little odd(also the wall on the left) I don't know why overall 4.5 from my side

timeload 2021-10-04 02:06

Not bad. A little generic, would've liked to see some more uniqueness, but still fun to mess around on :)

qthree 2021-10-04 02:27

Music is :fire:

Game feels very satisfying.

Wall climbing with space is a bit too broken though, makes game too easy.

fabdynamic 2021-10-04 02:53

@qthree Wow thank you! I appreciate your comments about the game being satisfying and am pleased that you liked the music. I'm proud of that. I will work on tightening the wall climbing mechanic and level designing the difficulty balance when I make Sir BaLancelot 2: The Lost Levels :) thank you again!

@TimeLoad You are right for starters I would have liked to introduce a character model and backgrounds and more decorations. and @alan001 thank you! you are right. the lighting is odd. Perhaps someday I'll find myself in full command of lighting aesthetics. At least I already know a few things I can do to tighten up the lighting in the sequel. I'm impressed you found that wall lol. Thank you both for playing it and for stopping back by to leave your comments!

slimmerburger 2021-10-04 10:38

Fun game really enjoyed it! I'd love to see a level that just a huge tall tower and the goal is at the top

picttarge 2021-10-04 13:51

Nice game - managed to get all the way through quite quickly. Seems like you can almost stick to a falling block on a slope and nearly 'double jump' then sail through the air which makes it quite easy to clear the towers.

morris 2021-10-04 14:01

Cool game. Enjoyed the lore in every level:) Also the jump feels nice for a game like this.

mikoziq 2021-10-04 16:38

238.69 seconds of *Balance A LOT*

Pros:

- It's so abstract I can't even - Yet it's so funny - Don't have time to read text, gotta go fast - I liked the music!

Cons:

- Balancelot should've been a cube :see_no_evil:

Cool game!

fabdynamic 2021-10-04 19:35

@slimmerburger Wow thank you and I love that idea! (which is likely to become part of Balancelot 2: The lost levels ;) ) thank you for playing it and I'm glad you liked it.

@picttarge thank you! I think I can tighten up that jumping mechanic and level design to optimize the encouragment/discouragement of the sailing (at least to a degree). Thank you for playing it and I'm glad you made it through.

@morris Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the lore. I like games with lore like that and am glad I could work that in. Thank you for your feedback about the jump, and thank you for playing!

@mikoziq wow 238.69! Thats the current record! If anyone has beat that record they haven't posted it here :) Thank you so much for your pros and cons comments. I actually love that idea about Sir Balancelot being a cube and perhaps I can work that mechanic into the sequel!

Thank you all for playing and coming back to leave a comment :)

derek-volker 2021-10-05 13:51

+1 in humor just for the title.

I really apreciate games that allow me to just wreak havoc, and while it doesn't seems to be a particulary effective strategy here, it seems fun as well.

The graphics are quite simples, hoewver they work in the premise of the game. I also really dig the soundtrack (dum, dumdumdum, dumdumdum, dumdumdum!)

Had a great time stuck in level 9 just taking the block towers down and don't really caring about getting to the objective.

Congrats for the excellent job on this game!

sethjmoore 2021-10-06 02:56

Even though it's a pretty simple concept, there was something very satisfying about it. SirBaLancelot.jpg

bflatinteractive 2021-10-06 05:48

Beat it in 137.70. I really like the concept and the fun little story elements. It is very easy, and at times may feel that the obstacles don't even matter much, you can get to the goal regardless what you hit. But it was quite fun to play, and you surprisingly managed to give Sir Balancelot a personality, which is remarkable.

human-writes-code 2021-10-06 05:50

That is one slapping tune! Also a fun game which fits the theme perfectly. My general approach was to just crash into obstacles and spam the space bar, which worked pretty well! It would have been good to have a bit more variety in obstacles or some different block behaviours (such as exploding blocks or sticky blocks). Overall, though, I really liked it. Good job!

djee 2021-10-06 20:06

171.79, this game is VERY good!

2kah 2021-10-06 20:58

Fun little game, and the music is perfection!

schuster 2021-10-06 23:58

Nice physics based game, felt kinda like a monkeyball meets getting over it

candlesan 2021-10-07 08:00

Fun little physics game. The blocks are fun to jump around on. Keep it up!

fabdynamic 2021-10-07 12:34

@derek-volker Wow thank you for those words. I appreciate that you played and enjoyed it and that you came back to let me know all about what you liked about the game. Thank you so much :)

@bflatinteractive wow great score! thank you so much for your comments. I particularly appreciate your remark about Sir Balancelot's personality. I'm glad you had fun and appreciate you coming back to leave this comment!

@human-writes-code Thank you! This means a lot to me. You are right about more variety in obstacles being beneficial and I will be including that in Sir Balancelot 2: The Lost Levels and wow the exploding or sticky blocks are great ideas thank you!

@djee Thank you for playing and coming back to leave a comment here. 171.79 is a great score way to go!

@2kah Wow thank you for playing and coming back to leave that kind comment! That means a lot to me.

@schuster Thank you! yeah you're right theres some vibes from both of those games in here. Thanks again!

@candlesan Thank you for playing and coming back to leave this comment! I will! :)

@sethjmoore thank you so much and wow what a score! Unless I'm very much mistaken you have the current record!

kr4ft3r 2021-10-07 14:41

Has some enthusiastic feel to it that adds to the mood. Good choice of colors, but I kind of wish the BaLancelot ball itself had some more character to it. But of course, one can't judge a Compo game too harsh for its graphics. Box textures, the grail itself and the music are quite good. It is cool that you made it somewhat moddable.

cauldron 2021-10-08 10:40

Nice audio work and presentation. I like the idea of embedding the narration inside the game world.

In terms of gameplay, I feel a higher difficulty would improve the game (more in linelike the last level). Being able to jump while touching the blocks sideways might be too permissive for example.

fabdynamic 2021-10-08 21:43

@cauldron Wow thank you! I think you are right about difficulty and I think I will make most of the levels in Sir Balancelot 2: The Lost Levels more like the last level in this one. Thank you so much for playing the game and stopping back in to help with feedback!

epiphaner 2021-10-10 10:57

Nice game! It is a bit too easy to just fly over everything and land on the goal though  The music ties in really nice with the theme of the game. Although I didn't really feel the theme of the jam really well, but that's probably because of the way I played. Anyway, this was my score after three tries: Score ld49 balancealot.png

python-b5 2021-10-10 14:15

I think the game could've been more difficult (some hazards would go a long way), but it's a good start and the idea definitely has potential.

Good job :)

grizwhirl 2021-10-10 14:26

Neat idea, Player however feels really floaty. The last level was really could, but the first 9 were really smash space to reach goal

fabdynamic 2021-10-11 17:54

@epiphaner You have the current record time! Congratulations! and @python-b5 Thank you for playing! I agree that it could be more difficult and plan to adjust the levels for Sir Balancelot 2: The lost levels after the jam and different levels should also help emphasize the **unstable** platforms in this game. In that game I will make more levels like the last level as @grizwhirl suggested.

mar3k 2021-10-12 09:22

Very nice and relaxing game, the music is nice and levels are enjoyable, well done.

fabdynamic 2021-10-12 17:27

Thank you so much @mar3k ! I appreciate the comment and that you played it and that you stopped back in to leave this comment. :)

nyxkn 2021-10-12 21:28

Very nice game! Felt really fun to bash through the walls. The music was excellent and very fitting I found.

myles-doupe 2021-10-13 02:26

Good game. I enjoyed playing it, although it was a little on the easy side.

james-7777 2021-10-14 20:00

Good stuff! The music was great, and I enjoyed reading the story on each level. I did find it a bit too easy to reach the end, but on the whole, good job!

sslees 2021-10-16 17:29

Fun game! My favorite part is that the story was part of each level. And I love the music. Reminds me of Monty Python.

potatolain 2021-10-17 01:57

This was pretty fun! I ended up doing it in 143 seconds! It was definitely a bit easy, but I really liked the walljump mechanic. The music was great, though I do wonder if it would have felt better if the music continued between levels. I heard the intro a whole lot of times. Thanks for a fun game!

aerloth 2021-10-19 13:30

TA DA DA DAAAAAA

I balanced a lot

Nice small platformer with satisfying physics. I liked the camera perspective a lot (wide angle, staying on the ground), it was a very refreshing take on the side-3d-platformer.

The music and graphic design reminded me of the oldschool JazzJackRabbit2 which also featured INTENSE colors and ABSTRACT graphics sometimes

Story bits were enough to keep me interested in the next level :D

I kept spamming space to get maximum height, thanks to this I didn't have to carefully balance on the platforms - not sure if that's the intended way to play but sure it felt good

Also: I appreciate that physics did not break or bug out! Everything worked OK. A lot of games featuring physics and a lot of objects often get weird and buggy, this was not the case for me
