I have a hard time in this type of platformer, but you have a niche of players who will be glad to see your game and enjoy it :D Great work :D

the-lame-brain 2021-10-04 16:44

Suddenly Lava Rises!

Lol, I hate when that happens.

---

I love your music!

It took me a while to figure out how to control the robot, despite your excellent description. You might benefit from offering a short, low-danger tutorial scenario so the player can get use to "controll"ing the robot.

Cheers!

pizzart64 2021-10-04 16:47

Very fun but very challenging. I like the audio and visuals. Nice game!

littlebeardman 2021-10-04 16:49

The art is great, reminds me a lot of Downwell. The sound effects and music all work well too.

It took me a bit to figure out exactly how the controls worked (which is my fault since I didn't fully read the controls), and it ended up being pretty fun. When the random actions all line up it feels pretty good to switch between the three ways of controlling the player.

With that being said, sometimes I would get stuck in loops where I'd keep getting the jump action multiple times in a row and would have to kind of hover awkwardly underneath some spikes as the lava came up to meet me. I think that this could maybe be remedied if you were able to have some amount of horizontal movement when jumping? Or maybe a limit to how many times in a row you can get the same action.

firefly4 2021-10-04 17:02

Music and art are super good; gameplay works and is addicting but I think it's a bit too hard. The lava was brutal.

happ 2021-10-04 17:52

Thanks everyone for valuable feedback! We'll try to incorporate tutorial and improve this game further as a next steps. Currently the game is pretty hardcore but still managable! :)

cagibi 2021-10-04 19:58

I really like the simplicity of the idea, and even though it's very difficult, jumping your way through lucky combos is particularly satisfying. At first I missed the overheat part in your instructions, I thought that was bad luck or a scripted event, but that makes much more sense that way.

transylvanian-blacksmiths 2021-10-04 20:28

I really like the black and red combo on the art, the sound effects and music are amazing too!

alina-baybulatova 2021-10-05 03:34

I really have fun to play this game) thank you!

chromableedstudios 2021-10-05 04:57

Really impressive work for the timespan. The minimalist color scheme really works and is evocative of games from earlier days. I couldn't get to the top today, but I will be back to play more. Really good, sticky gameplay in the way that meatboy or celeste works. Nice job!

jonah 2021-10-05 05:44

Your art style is so good! Great sound design too!

Fun game!

happ 2021-10-05 10:38

@cagibi, thanks for kind words! The current level is quite difficult, I hope players will have patience to keep trying :D @transylvanian-blacksmiths, we like it as well, thanks! @alina-baybulatova, glad to hear that, thanks! @chromableedstudios, thanks mate! Minimalistic color scheme and chip tunes made it a bit easier to pack in a few days. Sadly not much time to create more levels lol @jonah, thank you!

chesschaser 2021-10-05 13:07

Love the graphics. I felt that the controls are a bit difficult though.

appoxgames 2021-10-05 13:44

The game felt really polished with good visuals and sound that really matched together. But you need to have some patience for this game! It took me a lot of tries before being able to pass the first two mobs. But I enjoyed it, well done!

orangutanrider 2021-10-05 18:38

Really good. Really hard aswell... Damn.

happ 2021-10-05 19:07

Thanks @kuviman for streaming and reviewing our game – you are a great hardcore player! And congratulations with new speedrun record! :tada:

ezgif-4-cf4ad475bd57.gif

yogurtthehorse 2021-10-05 19:30

I really like style and idea, but it seems to random for me to really win it and feed satisfied

dan-colman 2021-10-05 19:35

great connection to theme. and super hard!

happ 2021-10-05 19:35

@yogurtthehorse thanks for the feedback! Yeah it's random and when you beat the random – it is AWESOME! Humans are stronger than this silly computer random :D By the way nice username lol :horse:

njs 2021-10-05 19:38

Oof, that was difficult. The audio and visuals were fantastic. Stressed me out but that's not a bad thing.

happ 2021-10-05 19:44

@njs, we are very glad you liked it! Did you manage to beat the game? :)

njs 2021-10-05 19:49

@happ I did not, no.

gloomyfolken 2021-10-05 20:02

OMG, even Boshy was not as tough at the beginning. Nice one, wish I was able to beat it...

naymsayk 2021-10-05 20:11

Oh I was bad at this. Looked great by the well and it controlled well enough aside from the gimmick which I was not keen on. It's clearly the point being the unstable element I just was really bad at compensating for it. The game around that seemed to work really well.

shaonde 2021-10-05 20:16

I can't finish it but i love it

happ 2021-10-05 20:16

@njs, no worries, there is a steep learning curve lol :) By the way I was able to beat your game – it's a lot of fun! Please make it more difficult next time! (just kidding :D)

@gloomyfolken, I really like your "OMG" reaction! :) Boshy can be used for warming up before playing our game :D

happ 2021-10-05 20:21

@naymsayk, I am sure you played it nicely! Thanks for feedback! @shaonde, the result is not important, the process – that's what important :D We happy to see you love it <3

njs 2021-10-05 20:28

@happ I've been back and tried again, don't think my brain is quick enough tonight to do it I'm afraid. I may well be back tomorrow to give it a go.

mordrick 2021-10-05 21:57

Full 5 starts, what else.

I really love this one and I will play it for days , trying to beat it I guess ^^.

happ 2021-10-05 22:21

@mordrick, thank you for such a high mark! :) Looks like we urgently need to add more and more levels :D Btw does anyone know if it's legal to release updates for the game after development phase of jam is ended?

squigglez 2021-10-05 22:22

loved this game! made me so upset but inspired to continue until i beat it. finally i got to the end, super satisfying. love the graphics and audio as well :)

mordrick 2021-10-05 22:42

I saw people adding links to updated versions of their games on the page but telling the people to vote only the original one

which is kind of tricky ^^

not-tomo 2021-10-05 22:44

Tough, but very fun. Stuck raging at the last platform. Love the aesthetic!

fabdynamic 2021-10-06 01:26

this was a jam game and seems to be a tough as nails platformer with a fascinating mechanic where you can only do one thing. tis one button and the mouse, but it picks what your next action will be which is the unstable part and kind of funny but also kind of rage-ey (which was intended I'm sure) the controls and collision and graphics are all solid and great. Its really cool. I didnt get very far unfortunately but I bet I could given enough time. Thanks and nice work!

zachary-shah 2021-10-06 01:32

Really great entry. Quality visuals, very innovative gameplay, and nice music. If I had to give feedback it would be to either remove the lava, or slow down it's climb. Since this game is intended for speedrunning, the lava really only affects new players. As well, I found it pretty frustrating not knowing what was next. A tetris like system would work well. Seeing the next move in your belt, and maybe even being able to swap? In all, really nice job.

mmason 2021-10-06 01:37

Very difficult! I get what you were going for, but I feel like the random controls makes the game too unpredictable or unstable if you will for longer play or a longer game. I noticed that the operations the robot performs were always random, it could be neat if they were seeded random for the given level. Excellent use of the theme though and really fresh type of game!

maxthedoom 2021-10-06 02:27

Wow, the game is real fun. Took a second to get a hang of the controls, but they're real smooth once you get the hang of them. Due to a certain post (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/piles-pile-it-up/up-to-25eur-amazon-gift-cards-for-speed-run-champions) by a certain someone, involving speedruns, I think I'll be trying to lower my time from 52:97 further and further over the next two weeks :)

hellequinne 2021-10-06 04:40

Clever mechanic! Nice, clean visual and audio style.

asdeph 2021-10-06 06:42

The graphics and audio really sell the feel of the game and the main mechanic is really fun and innovative. But the level is really hard to play through to the end, maybe you could have a difficulty setting and reveal a queue of the next few actions depending on the difficulty?

hefka 2021-10-06 09:01

I dig it! My only complaint is that the controls are a bit confusing at first and I oftenly do something I didn't want to, dunno if that's intentional but sometimes I don't know if by clicking I'll dash, jump or shoot. Otherwise, that's a nice concept!

ollieoa 2021-10-06 12:49

I only watched it played, but I loved the polish on this game! The physics look and feel amazing, and the concept is realised really well! Great work, if not something that I wouldn't play because I don't want to raise my heartrate to unprecedented levels

stroe-andrew 2021-10-06 12:58

Really hard platformer game. Love the Art Style of the game being very simple... congrats on your entry! Perfect for mobile gaming *-* Woah!

ladymistleaf 2021-10-06 13:55

This is a great little game, loved the retro look of the graphics and the small color palette, the music was very fitting, and HOLY was the game hard! I was not able to finish the game, but I gave it a good shot! Great job, it fit the theme very well!

euler-moises 2021-10-06 14:01

I left it saved here in my browse because I WANT TO REACH THE TOP!

Congratulations!

happ 2021-10-06 16:21

@squigglez, we are glad you got some fun playing the game! You can try to beat the current record of 41 seconds and win a prize :) There are more details about it in the game description section above. @not-tomo, thanks! Let's call your emotion "raging fun" :D @fabdynamic, thank you for such a detailed review! @zachary-shah, thanks for the great ideas! We'll think about incorporating them in the next versions of the game :) @mmason, agree 100%! Sometimes absolute random can ruin the run no matter what player does. It doesn't happen too often right now and it is definitely something we will rework in the next versions.

happ 2021-10-06 16:30

@hellequinne, thanks to you for your kind words! @asdeph, thanks! We decided to keep the level difficult as we didn't have much time to create more levels. A lot of time was spent polishing the game mechanics, visuals, and audio. In the next versions, it will be a lot more player-friendly from the start. :) @hefka, the robot's monitor face always shows the next action to be performed on mouse click. Current icons and visual representation can be a bit confusing and we have some ideas on how to improve this in the future. Thanks for the feedback! :) @stroe-andrew, we are glad you liked it! ;)

happ 2021-10-06 16:37

@ladymistleaf, thank you very much for streaming the game and giving such a kind review! ([LadyMistLeaf on Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/ladymistleaf)) @ollieoa, thanks! Yeah, it's always fun watching streamers try-harding to get the robot to the top. :D

badpiggy 2021-10-06 18:08

Cool game and idea though I feel it's a little too random. It's hard to really strategise and plan and use the moves you have when they occur randomly. If the next move after the one shown on the face of the robot was displayed as well in the UI, it would have made things a little easier. Regardless though, presentation and the visuals was slick. Love the minimal pallete and it was easy to tell things at first glance like the cubes which could be shot. A good entry none the less

tory 2021-10-06 18:40

Great game, though I burned a chair under me))

happ 2021-10-06 19:17

@badpiggy, thank you for the feedback! It's a war between humanity and the randomness :] @tory, thank you very much for streaming and reviewing the game and sorry for your chair! It was pure fun to observe how you tried to beat the game :D

tuile 2021-10-07 07:16

While I had a hard time properly immersing myself into using the mechanics well, the one-click mechanic by itself made the game very accessible, and I enjoyed what I saw in terms of art and music. Replaying it over and over didn't bother me at all, but it's the kind of game that we would come back to again and again, just to get that sweet sense of mastery. Absolutely smashing job for a game jam!

happ 2021-10-07 11:48

@tuile, thanks a lot for streaming our little game and giving such a detailed and kind feedback! :)

neowhoru 2021-10-07 12:17

this was really challenging but really good gameplay and unique idea :D

leokrechmer 2021-10-07 13:29

O M G it is too hardcore to me, I'm giving up! But it is great piece of adventure! Great old school visuals and sounds, amazing submission!

riper 2021-10-07 13:34

Cool game. It can get stuck for a long time. I would be glad if she shows up on the phone!)

maximbegunov 2021-10-07 13:48

That's a very clever idea for this theme. I liked the challenge and almost finished it twice but couldn't beat the part at the finish. Music and sfx are great, the transition from failed attempt to a new one is sweet. Maybe I'll give it another try to beat it later.

svemir 2021-10-07 14:03

Damn, this is tough but you just want to keep going!! I love everything about this!

gaming-night 2021-10-07 15:22

Loved it. **cking hard, but addictive too. Once you get the concept, you want to progress. As I read earlier, the art style made me think about Downwell. And actually, it feels like a reverse Downwell to me, where instead of falling infinitely and seamlessly, you have all difficulties to go up. The only criticism I can find is the relation to the theme, which seems to me a little bit thin :)

chaosbrick 2021-10-07 15:34

This is an overall well built and polished package, from the primitive but well executed graphics over the 8 bit sound to the super accessible yet surprisingly deep gameplay. I'd like to see more levels for this game. The only things that somewhat bugged me were the inability to plan ahead at all (Seeing what the next move will be would help greatly with that, I think.) and the complete lack of horizontal mobility with the jump module. I got stuck in mid-air under spikes for 4 jumps in a row more often than I'd like to believe is probable. Maybe a more "balanced" RNG could help as well, i.e. decrease the chance of a module popping up the more often in a row it has already appeared. Switching between dashing towards the mouse and shooting a projectile in the opposite direction on the fly to keep moving up was really fun and satisfying, though.

npr0nn 2021-10-08 05:44

Loved the idea but I'm horrible and controlling the robot, the graphics are so polished and the animations are so cute, has such a potential for competitive speedruns.

gibss 2021-10-08 11:53

Really great concept. One really great idea that emerged from this jam is binding a randomized action to a single input (in this case random platformer action to a button click) and this is probably the best execution of that idea. Well done! My two cents on improvements would be to have a gentler opening as others have mentionned and maybe having a progress bar on the side but this is already very polished as it is.

minibobbo 2021-10-08 22:11

This was extremely difficult, but not in a bad way. I found that I was never really able to get the hang of controlling the robot effectively. Maybe because I just lack the reaction time necessary.

The level of polish was very nice and it was fun to play, even if I failed over and over again at very low levels...

etrealjunior 2021-10-09 21:00

Congratulations on the game, beautiful and challenging, I was happy to play your game, if you can give feedback on my game I would be grateful, a big hug.

wolfmeryx 2021-10-11 08:16

Interesting gameplay! Really fun when you master your reactions and what to do with each action given. Good art and sound/music as well! Good entry.

Great game! Saw it on stream, decided to play by myself and recommended to whole my team! Feels like top 5 of everything I saw and because of that I tried myself in the speedrun challenge. Got really unlucky at the end but it still seems to be a good result. Not sure exactly about the time, it's somewhere between 49 and 50 seconds, hope you'll find out :) Here is a link of the run:https://youtu.be/-LfsO13uG8s
