Game feels good but the controls are just "UNSTABLE"

Game feels good but the controls are just "UNSTABLE"
i tried over and over but i dont think the game is beatable unless you toggle invincibility? I just always crash into the ground and die even if im touching the flag.
really cool level design
@shootboots You need to land very slowly, and flat relative to what you're landing on (i.e. it's essentially just Lunar Lander).
I also found landing extremely difficult, but managed to finish 2 levels. Good game, well executed. If you were going for difficult, you hit the mark.
Fun etymology, and an interesting take on the theme! Personally, I found the game really difficult, but I suspect that was what you were going for ;)
Really nice take on the theme! It was really difficult and I am sorry to say I did not get to the end of it. I got to the level with the red particles and the moving rocks. Is that near the end? The controls were really great! It gave an extremely unstable feel :D I agree with others that landing is extremely hard, and maybe it would have been better if you did not have to go this slow. The levels were really cool as well! The last one I finished was the one where you saved those people on a sinking boat. I thought that was nice. It felt like a non-explicit story :) Reall great job! I enjoyed this one a lot!
@wuppos That was the last level. You were close!
Looking at all the comments so far, it definitely seems like I should have loosened up the landing requirements a bit (I wanted it to be pretty challenging, but of course I'd also like for people to be able to see the entire game!).
This is a helicopter made of Lego bricks, golly. Much like Lunar Lander, I find myself trying to convince the game that my touchdown was indeed soft enough, and that I am a safe pilot. Very fun!
Remember that heli from GTA:Vc, this is him now. feel old yet? :D
A very fun game.
Its really really really hard (not a bad thing though). The graphics and sound were really good and it fit the theme well. Great Job!
I didn't even manage to finish the first level before I gave up, you made it really difficult (or I'm just a noob)! But the connection to the theme works well, just like the graphics and sound effects!
As simple and elegant as it is difficult and enraging. Well done, it was fun.
I love it, a really cool spin on lunar lander with a really nice aesthetic and hilarious level design, an absolute blast to play and even though it's really hard it feels good regardless. It's hard to pull off a game that has genuinely bullshit difficulty but is still fun and you've done it here, awesome game!
Really cool game, the physics are good and it's fun to play! Sometimes it's unclear whether or not the copter will crash though.
Very challenging! It sounds like you've already gotten the feedback that the landing requirements are a little strict... the controls were tight and responsive though, it felt very good to play.
I love this!
Very unforgiving but compelling enough that I played it all the way through. I suppose "Lunar Lander, but with more level design" is accurate, but it sells the game short, I think. The level design is fantastic and adds so much to the game.
The controls are responsive, the art work is lovely, and the sound works well. I'm not sure if it would work better with music, or if the silence helps keep the sense of tension you get when attempting a dangerous turn or a tricky landing.
The speed-tun timer is also a clever addition. I wasn't trying to speed-run the game, but I feel like it was still subtly goading me onward nonetheless.
Even the source code is very concise and easy to understand for something made under these time constraints. But do I feel compelled to point out that most nodes in Godot (everything under `Node2D`, at least) [already have a `show` method](https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/classes/class_canvasitem.html?highlight=show#class-canvasitem-method-show).
@squimmy Thanks, not sure why it didn't occur to me to check whether `show` existed, since in retrospect it obviously should. Sleep deprivation, I guess.
This is a great interpretation of the unstable theme. Controlling the heli is definitely very difficult, but doable. The art is great and easy to read and the controls are tuned very well. Good theme, art, and level design.
7:40 myself. For your record run, how many deaths did you have? I thought the oil rig/ship level was particularly nasty, since you usually had to run through that section fairly fast.
Very fun game though. You can feel yourself mastering the game very quickly and it doesn't take long before you pull off a sick move or 2. I realllly like the addition of moving stages to the formula. It really added a ton to the usual Lunar Lander formula. Not only that, but you have a pretty good sense of level design. Not just in the layout of the levels, but also the theming which added even more to the flavor.
What was the lava stage supposed to be though? It was kinda a monster but looked more like rocks?
@PeachTreeOath The lava stage was just supposed to be a cave inside a volcano (+ heavy tectonic activity), but I guess with the bright blue sky background it doesn't look super "cave-y" and the roof movement isn't very earthquake-like. It definitely needs some work.
I think I only died once or twice on the 3:21 run. (I've also improved my time since then, but I'm not keeping super good track.)
My god. I probably died 2 to 3 dozen times on the ship stage lol. Awesome work on the game!
Good and inovative game, good work. I dont like audio sorry, not good. Almost nailed that theme, but it still very thing what I imagine as this theme.. Chmm, that game is really fun, good for you :). Not bad, not bad :) I like your art. Overall I like you game, good job.
One last note: I always write down honest review, because everybody need that, not just nice craps with some bullshit, but sometime I will aperceite very good games. So if this review insult you, but use it well :) Anyway every game is counting so :)
While playing I was reminded of two very different games: GTA (Helicopter handling) and Flappy Birds (Level Design, especially the second one :D). That is not to say the game doesn't feel unique, far from it, I actually had fun learning to be more patient with the flying machine! Thank you for this fun enjoyable experience!
It's really hard! But I got a great sense of achievement when I reached the platform! Ha ha ha ha, fortunately flying a helicopter in real life is probably a lot easier than that
lol, it’s very challenging. It’s been a long time since the plane stopped. If there are more levels, I think I can play longer
It looks nice, the controls are good, and the level design is top, but I think you need to allow for very slightly harder collisions around the finish point. Doesn't take anything away from the game though, it's great.
I love the design ! I really struggled keeping the helicopter stable, so I couldn't be more on the theme ^^ Maybe it would be better if it would a little bit easier :)
Very nice game, I like that it is difficult! and I love that you put the 'i'-feature in the game xD
Thank you!
I like the concept and it looks really nice, but I couldn't land succesfully once haha
Hard game, but fun to play. Good concept.
Really enjoyed the game, tho I gave up at the 7 min mark on the rocket stage. Managed to experiment with finding an amount of depth to the mechanics that really surprised and impressed me. Being able to use clever use of the landing gear mechanics to rapidly reduce speed by deliberately colliding with objects without destruction and even landing in the rocket elevator.
You weren't kidding about "Lunar Lander with level design". I loved every moment of it, from my suspiciously slow crash landings to the progressively sillier situations (the raining fire stage got a laugh out of me, that caught me off guard). Controls were solid and the graphics, while minimal, got me feeling cozy. Overall great game!
Beautiful little game. Game me Nitrome vibes even though I know you were thinking more retro lunar lander. My patience couldn't keep me long but I would play it more if it was all I had to sit down and do for an hour. Nice work.
The art and sound are really charming. The controls are extremely hard but equally satisfying to get used to. Really fun game!
I learned three things whilst playing this game.
* Holy shit flying a helicopter is difficult * Holy shit landing a helicopter is difficult * I should not be a helicopter pilot.
Great game!
Very challenging, but I really liked how the entire environment began moving as of the Lava level! I appreciate you added an invincibility cheat for those who want to see more of the game, even if I was too stubborn to use it.
Simple and to the point. This theme is really bringing my personal incompetence to the fore. :|
The first minutes are hard but then it gets easier once you get used to the precise control, I learned to go very fast and rotate before hitting walls so that the helicopter has less chance of crashing. I couldn't beat your record though!
Nice game, maybe a bit hardcore for me, but I beat 2 levels.
This reminded me of playing QWAP lol. Really difficult but I could see becoming addicted to trying to get better at it. I like the simplicity of the art and overall a great concept! Awesome job!
It took me some time to manage a successful landing, but then all went easier. Nice little game, well done !
Really cool game, I like the simple but fun idea.
Эти долбанные туристы, альпинисты! Вечно забираются черт знает куда, а ты их потом забирай оттуда! Вот зачем они туда лезут? Не умеешь - не лезь! А то - горы, горы! Тьфу!
Спасибо за игру ^_^
Great entry here. It's nice and simple and has a good sense of mastery about it. The level designs you incorporated were really cool as well. Especially the ship and the crane lol. The final part with the lava seemed a little too unforgiving but it is the final section after all lol. To make things a little better, maybe just tweak the hit box for the body of the helicopter besides its underpart and make it a little smaller. Along with that, increasing the minimum velocity you need to be at in order to land safely would make things more better as well and prevent too much frustration. Still, cool and nicely designed entry
hah really hard to play game) cool simple graphic. strange decision that the timer is not attached to the screen
Cool! I would love to see someone really skilled speed run this. It really have the potential of insane speed runs.
The helicopter sprite is so clever, I love the "1-dimensional" animation of the rotor. With that said, the cute style belies how brutally hard this game is. I made it to level 2 which felt like quite the accomplishment. I feel like the sensitivity of the landing could be a liiiittle bit more forgiving. Definitely had fun with the controls and recommend this for anyone who loves a challenge.
This is for sure the most addicting game I've played this competition. Well done! The comments make it clear there's lots of levels I'm not good enough to get to, but I had a blast on the few that I could beat. Well done! I love the artwork, especially the little pixel trees and grass. And the color scheme is great too.
EDIT after seeing the note about "I" for invincibility I got to see the whole game. Love it! This has been my favorite game so far.
Greate game. Hard.
I managed to get through level 1 and saw there was more. :scream: My heart couldn't take it! I bow to everyone who was able to make it past level 2. It was way too difficult for me. I also like the really subtle noise that the helicopter makes as it flys, it didn't real repetitive which can sometimes ruin a game like this.
Awesome job!
Really hard! Love lunar lander tho & this was nice
Nice game, well done.
