so i really want to like this game, its nicely done, but the combat is SUPER frustrating cause i dont have a swipe in front of me attack. the default attack does not hit a enemy when im right in front of it and its frustrating. also the enemys have wierd pathing that sometimes they are walking in the walls and when i try to attack i get killed.

I really like the old top-down Zelda titles, so this game caught my eye immediately. And I have to say, the graphics and mood did not disappoint! Pixel art is on point. I do, however, feel like the enemies are a bit too fast, and move too unpredictably. It makes the combat really difficult.

Wow, this is the most fun and polished game I have played so far. I really love the story idea and how you implemented all that glitching stuff, that was amazing. It fits there perfectly, and boy, the graphics are just amazing. I am surprised you managed to do all this alone AND a COMPO?! Just wow mate, well done.
PS: To provide constructive feedback, the fighting could have been done a bit better, like having a longer/wider sword. But other than that, definitely my favorite game so far :)
Extremely polished and a lot of content, it feels like a complete game! I also loved that there were secrets around the map, really gave me flash backs to legend of zelda.
Only constructive feedback i have is perhaps the speed of the game. Felt like everything was x2 faster than what is normally, but in some cases it was preferable.
Again, very impressed by this submission. Great work!

Great game! I really liked the un-glitching mechanic, and the background music. The most polished LD49 game I played until now.

Note to myself. Do NOT stand next to dynamite like an idiot :)
Cool game. The art style is nicely polished and the controls feels good too. It was fun to play.

The enemies moved a bit too randomly for me. Other than that, I really like the idea, cool and impressive game for the compo!
Nicely done game! I especially like the graphical style, I can tell where you got your influences, for sure. The mini-map helped a ton, and I appreciated that it showed where corruption orbs still existed. (That said, it took me a while to figure out what it all meant, and which tile was me! It might help to put a guide somewhere)
One bug I wanted to point out, which might be making this harder than you intended - it seems like the first time you see an upgrade/item on a screen, it is marked as collected. So if you, for example, die on a screen with a heart upgrade (or just transition away without collecting it) that upgrade is gone for good. I ended the game with 4 health - I think I had the option to get 6, but those items disappeared.
As others have said, the combat is a little hard to get used to, but that doesn't take away too much. Thanks for a fun game!

Thanks for the comments!
Everybody is right about the combat. I totally made the sword collider too small, didn't I? And the enemy generation could use some tweaking. The snakes are meant to be difficult, but there shouldn't be so many of them.
Thanks for the bug report @cppchriscpp. I've done a bug fix for that, but I think it would be against the spirit of the compo to fix the combat issues. Something for a post-compo edition, I think.
Edit: There are four heart pieces to find, for a total of 7 hearts.

Wow, impressive! Really captured the vibe of the first Zelda game, love the subtle callbacks to that game (like the graveyard, or following a river). The glitch aesthetic was nice, especially when it was utilized to impact gameplay somehow (the mazelike or confusing rooms). I wish there was more of that. Sword collision was a bit finnicky, as others mentioned, but it didn't bother me too much. Wasn't frustrated when I was killed since it's so quick and easy to get back in the action, and you're constantly making progress.
Great job!

Very high quality! I found it to be an extremely well polished experience. I really enjoyed my little adventure, the art especially was great. The pixel art lends itself really well to the glitchy theme. I love the atmosphere and the music too. Just really good stuff here.
Love the art and aesthetic on this! I love when games take the "glitchy" aesthetic very literally and depict the game how glitched games actually look (sprites being drawn incorrectly, animation being weird, etc.) and this game nails that aesthetic perfectly. It seems you're already well aware of some issues with the combat, so I wont repeat them. The only thing I'll say that I haven't seen others mention... is that the game over music is way too loud!!
Amazing compo entry! :)
This was an awesome game, I really enjoyed everything about it! Only thing I would change was make the attack hitbox bigger as every has said so far. I really enjoyed crushing the wizards "balls" ;)

Really well polished game. Agree with other posters that perhaps the hitbox should be slightly larger, but other than that, everything is spot on. Graphics are great, audio is good, creates a nice experience and it's a fun game!

The sword was difficult to get used to, but, I just had to stay awake to play this one more game. The glitches were much more interesting, and the map more useful, than a Zelda game. Awesome job, would definitely play again.
Really fun and looks great, but combat is a little frustrating. Good job!

I love the atmosphere in this game! Comfy graphics, comfy audio. The game is not too hard and not too easy. I like the concept and theme of the game. Personally, I would make it a little bit more obvious which tiles are cleared and which aren't by making the cleared ones green en the uncleared red or something. Overall fun to play game, good job!
Oh I love 2d Zelda-like game. And I like this cute art and music.
You nailed the retro aesthetic, the art and music are great! Attacking enemies was a bit nerve-wracking at first, since the precision isn't very forgiving, but I did get the hang of it eventually. Fixing the glitching on each screen feels really satisfying, I loved how you got the "glitchiness" just right so that it felt chaotic, but wasn't actually disruptive to navigating the area. I enjoyed the increasing chaos as I moved further from the spawn point, it added some good tension.

Your game is pretty fun, so please make it more next time. Audio for me is not good, but not bad. Not bad, not bad :) I like your art. Exactly what I imagine about this theme as perfect game. Overall that game is good, good job.
One last note: I always write down honest review, because everybody need that, not just nice craps with some bullshit, but sometime I will aperceite very good games. So if this review insult you, but use it well :) Anyway every game is counting so :)

My only problem with the game is the combat. Sword atk range is maybe too short and the bomb seems too good against enemy. Art and audio are great. A good Zelda like!

Very much enjoyed your game, I completed it and at no point felt too frustrated or had a bad time. I did like the music, if you'd had more time maybe some variation would have been good(a glitchy track in the corrupted sections?). No real criticisms that others haven't mentioned already. Thanks for a fun game!
I played on a 120hz monitor, got very far at double speed, clearly I am a superior gamer made of superior gaming DNA. What an excellent ride, fantastic art and lots of neat bits of puzzly explore-y content. Well done.
Good game!!
Okay. This time you took me by the heart... My favorite game style. This one is very simple, but very well done. The art is worthy of a Super Nintendo. And this delicious tango sounding through the overworld. I loved your game and I didn't give up on reaching the end. It was such a pleasure to play it.

Thanks and congratulations!
Oh man the music in this is so funky I love it haha. I liked the unglitch mechanic as a kind of traversal or roadblock puzzle and I didn't get bored of exploring at all (The world map was definitely a good choice), combat was fun especially once I unlocked the "power in the north". Really great job.

I like the music and art, particularly the animation for the slime enemy. The AI/movement for the snakes is pretty interesting too.
Because of the respawning enemies I think that hearts should drop more often.
Occasionally enemies go off the top of the screen which makes it hard to avoid their attacks.
Finally, I found the attack sound effect to be too loud at first.
It is amazingly great for compo submission, but in general animations and sound could be improved. Anyways, very interesting glitchy mechanic, enjoyed the gameplay. Map is also great thing, you alwasys know if got to search for anything. Good job!

Found it more enjoyable than I thought! Impressive for the time given. I had trouble with the combat and the snake gave me a ton of hassle but I think I found that running away was easier than fighting it.

For a game made in a jam I am astounded by the size of this world and the fact that it feels like a world. Every screen feels like a logical progression from the previous screen with its own character and routes in puzzles. Very much feels like the first legend of zelda.
What I do think is that there is a missed opportunity with a glitched world. I would have loved to see a mechanic in which you travel between glitched and un-glitched realities. Perhaps certain glitched states allows you to circumnavigate walls, clip through walls, bug your sword for infinite damage, or more.
I really liked the concept, and the game was fun in its own right.
I did however have a few issues with it. You already know (and by the sounds of it, fixed) the sword hitbox. I would have also liked to have seen more enemy variety, even if its just recoloring sprites and changing the AI a little bit. It wasn't until near the end that I encountered the ghost monsters, which would have been nice to see sprinkled around more than just that one screen (I appreciate the fact that they were there THEMATICALLY, because it was a graveyard, but my point still stands).
I really appreciated the bomb powerup, and the extra hearts. It made it seem like there was actual progress to the game other than just the green balls.
One of the biggest downfalls, in my opinion, was that the character lacked personality. The graphics are largely very nice, and very enjoyable, especially for a compo game. That being said, the main character seemed just a tiny bit generic for my liking. Either give them a reason to be a normal looking guy, or give them that "protagonist" feel.
The game gave me major nostalgic vibes, so you get extra points for that!
I would have also liked to know WHY Glitchard did what he did, and WHY destroying the big green balls fixes things.
Overall I really liked the game, and I would gladly play a larger more finished product!
Really nice overall, absolutely adore Zelda-like games and the ideas with the glitches was fantastic. (I partially loved it when you became a glitch tile/sprite yourself.) I'm thankful for when you die, you keep your progress, that was very helpful in clearing the game. Overall the game is excellent for a compo game! Fantastic stuff :)
